Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

The Captain's eyes widen in fear, but she makes no sound, and her body doesn't seem to be listening to her mind's orders to back off. She nimbly dodges as Moselle attempts to hit her, dodging left and right each time she swings.

Jack steps up behind her and swings a powerful blow at her that slashes against her back. She stumbles forward silently, as Dragos cracks his whip, causing her to attempt to dodge back as she's stung by the power of the whip.... Only to be met with Setare, who strikes her in the back of the head, HARD. The captain's eyes lull back and she collapses to the floor.

Things go silent for a moment but a soft "Drip... Drip" sound from one side of the ship draw's the teams attention. Setare looks as a MASSIVE version of the shellfish like tentacled thing pulls itself over the edge of the ship, looking at them all simultaneously with it's dozens of eyes. The entire team hear's a deep, reverberating voice in your minds...

It seems my new toy is worthless. How pathetic... it showed such promise to. It seems you can't go wrong with the classics. Kill them.

As the sound comes out, a woman suddenly rips her way from the hard black coral around the main staff. Her body is mostly covered in coral, but most notably is the great red mechanical arm that hangs from her left side....

But she lifts her cold, gleeming scimitar, and strikes out at Setare!

Scimitar: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
But Setare's quick reflexes turn the blow back on her! She tries again!
Scimitar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
and even swings her heavy arm...
Arm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

But Setare is just to fast!

Hmmm.... You are quick. Perhaps you will make a useful new tool...

Suddenly, the massive tentacles of the creature strike out at Setare as well!

Tentacle: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Stinger: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Tentacle: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27

Tentacle: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Stinger: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Tentacle: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Stinger: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
TentacleCrit?: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Stinger: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Setare feels herself be jabbed and stabbed mutiple times over... but what's worse is the horrible, black stingers that still potrude from her back, her side, her leg, and her arm.

Setare Fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Setare Fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Setare Fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Setare Fort: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

Quick as lightning, Setare rips the stingers from her body, wincing... but the first strike that hit her back... she can't reach it, and she can feel... something seeping into and onto her body, dripping down her back.

Everyone else can see the black sludge that had covered Vancid dripping from the stinger... and crystallizing as it drips.

Nyvorlas reaches into the thing's mind, but it's like trying to unravel a rope made out of water.... it's to alien to even begin to get a grip.

Foolish creature... you think you can tangle with my mind? Truly, you are filled with arrogance...

Socrates just barely identifies this thing as a Incutilise lord... unlike the little ones, which bore into a single enemy and consume their mind, this big guy can destroy and take over the minds of dozens of people by calcifying their body with it's strange poisons...

Setare strikes hard, dashing back and forth. But her body burns as she feels the poison of the black stingers spew into her body... upon closer inspection, the ones she had ripped out still have left their heads in her skin and will need to be removed, and the one in her back is still dripping the black calcifying agent as well.

It burns deep inside her, and she feels her movements slowed again as the black poison seems to solidify in her body.

As Drago's whip connects hard with the redclawed enemy, Moselle finally lands a punch... and while it looks like it hurts, she seems unaffected by Moselle's sadness and despair.

With the whole team attacking the creature Socraties does not see a good opening to throw anymore of his alchemy. he will continue to sing and take a full-defense action.

While Setare is obviously getting hurt, the sheer damage that the team is dealing out leads Socraties to believe this thing doesn't have much left.

Come on my friends, we almost have it, just a little more. Hold on Setare!

Jack strikes, a blazing uppercut with his sword breaking the horrible thing's shell armor!

Setare dashes in, driving her sword in with all her might!

As she does so, Drago's electrified whip hooks around her blade, and sends thunderbolts of his goddess's wrath deep into the thing's body.

Moselle decides to push the point home, and RAMS her fist into the sword, driving it even deeper into the horrible thing's body!

It HOWLS with rage and anger, shuddering and screaming as it collapses. As if she where a doll fighting against strings that had just been caught, Setare feels the tightness in her body disappear as the barbs fall from her skin, and all the black coral around them begins to melt, slowly, like butter on a hot plate. Cracking sounds echo through the room as one wall of the chamber riddles itself with holes as the black coral drips away, letting in ray after ray of sunshine that pierces the darkness.

Even the Captain, lying on the ground, has the black muck that had wrapped around her body drip away....

Light warms you all... and the shift bobs as it's released from it's black coral ties.

Setare is truly relieved... but unbelievably exhausted!

”We ... we did it!“ is the only thing she can say.

Taking a moment to let the rush of a climactic battle like this wash over him Socraties catches his breath. He then quickly rushes up to Setare to help her patch her wounds.

As Jack get's grumpy about the captain Socraties thinks twice about helping him patch up his wounds, at least for the moment until this is settled.

The captain is slowly brought around. She looks rather pathetic without the jewels or her jaunty hat and coat. She pulls her knees up to her chest and avoids looking at all of you.

I'm... I'm sorry... Look, I... I honest to Besmara was just worried... I thought you'd take the treasure... I couldn't stop you if you did... and I just needed my portion, and then I could retire, give up the ship... maybe find another man, have a family... i couldn't... i've only known you for a few weeks, I couldn't risk it! That's why I had Dragos go with you, to make sure nothing bad happened to you! I...

She shudders deeply and looks at the slain sea monster.

I never would have dreamed a monster like that would be hiding here...

Setare looks at Dragos with an open mouth.

Suddenly anger rises in her and her voice becomes more fluent.

”You lied to us!?! You betrayed us!?! I ... I would have expected no less from her but we fought next to each other! We were one ... one team!“ she says disappointed and agitated at the same time.

She looks at her bloody scimitar.

And she sheaths her sword and shakes her head.

She looks up at Nyvorlas with a raised eyebrow.

”Were you ... “ but she stops her own question.

Captain I am surprised someone as experienced as you didn't know that in our world the more rewarding the prize the more dangerous the perils. Nyvrolas looks down at the woman, and then at his own wife. "Captain, I hear what you are saying and I understand your want of material things ... but." he pauses. "Captain, our lives. You gambled that we would get off that island. What if we died there? Where would our happy ending be?

"The fact that you so recklessly gambled with out lives is unforgivable in my eyes." Nyvorlas sees Moselle approach from behind and holds up his hand to stay her blow.

"As retribution, I say we take all her treasures and leave her here. And eye for an eye." the elf ends.

She sighs and stares at the ship deck.

it doesn't matter what I meant though... It all went wrong... Please... Don't leave me here. All I ask is my share... I just want to retire... Please, I'll surrender my title if you need... Jack stands over the Captain for a few moments, before sheathing his sword.

Dragos looks down at his feet as Setare berates him. "That's what I told ye back on the island she marooned us on, that's why we left to chase her down. The captain gave me this," Dragos pulls out her wedding ring "As collateral. Fer what it be worth, I believe her. Jack's also right though, even if we believe her, it don't make what she did any less forgivable, and with me soft heart, I played right into it." Dragos sighs.

"Me girl's old man is right. Only fair she get what she gave. Problem is, that means we be leaving someone behind who might chase us down later fer revenge after she's stewed long enough to build up the hate in her heart, and I ain't about ta be lookin over me shoulder. I say put her in the brig, and drop her off at the closest port. Enough coins she won't have ta beg."

Dragos turns to Jack finally after saying his piece. "I don't deserve ta be able ta follow ye after I let the Captain pull one over on me. But the coin from this could set us up real good fer our own ship. Me and me girl, and her old man could sail with ye, and ye know I learned my lesson here. Whaddya say?"

Socraties snatches the horn out of the hands of the captain. I will be taking that...unless someone has an objection? he says, obviously not actually intending to entertain objections as he stuffs the horn into his sack.

I still think that despite her transgressions we give her, her share and take her to a port of her choosing, an old man such as myself doesn't need anymore enemies especially when he won't have you motley crew with him all the time. Stating this Socraties moves to head into the ship to investigate the loot. As he is about to step below deck he looks back and adds. I don't have a problem with Jack's proposal though to take away her captainhood he shouts the last few words as he disappears below deck.

Setare nods.
