Evil GM cackling.

Setare finds in the altar that there also a rolled up map of the Shackles left here by Warvil Lanteri that marks the island location of Jemma Redclaw's treasure. The island is labeled “Brightglass Island” on Warvil’s map, and next to it are the initials “W. L.” and a sketch of a three-eyed cyclops.

The alter chest also contains a a lesser reach metamagic rod and a gray bag of tricks

Also, Socrates, it's a couple hours hiking back to Jenesara. No big deal if you wanna go rushing off without the rest of the team, I just wanted to warn you.

I didn't realize the island was that big, looked rather small on our map...uh..still goes running off, but slows down to a quick determined hike once the initial anger wears off...that means though then that it will probably be about night by the time we get back that way right?

You are correct Jack the hippocampi is exactly what I was thinking.

They seem to be taking this better than I would

He listens to the plan, anger burning within him at being left out, trying to navigate these treacherous conversations like a steersman through a squall.

"So what are our ... your intentions, father? Do you expect us to just sit here passing the day as Captain Lanteri sails to the treasure and hope she is successful ..." he counts on his finger as he extenuates each point. "Actually retrieves the treasure, and comes back to get us. And we are to expect her to give us our fair share after that.

For the sake of getting to do some roleplaying, I am going to assume the others are coming with me so I can respond.

Socraties suddenly realizes that they have not been on the island for only an hour or so as he first reacted to, but several hours, at this rate, they would be making the hippocampi trip in the dark, and that is not a good idea, wouldn't be even if he had darkvision.

For now I am inclined to assume that Captain Lanteri does intend to come back for us, but I do not want to leave that up to trust, or chance. If we can catch up to them I intend to join the crew back as if nothing had happened. I understand her concern, though we have done our part so far we are still a group of unknown that she can't fully account for what we might do, Setare and Jack are quite strong fighters and have exhibited that right in front of the crew more than once, to be afraid of us is not unreasonable.

Contrarily, if catching her involves chasing the captain across the seas to claim our share, she will have to face our full strength as punishment for her crime against us and our contract.

I hope everyone can be okay with that?

Whichever side you are on though, my concern right now though is the treasure being recovered in the first place. The perils we faced up to this point inclines me to believe that getting the treasure will not be easy. We won't be able to catch them before night fall at this rate, we need to get permission from Lanessa and be prepared to leave in the morning. Not only will that be significantly safer for us, it will give a chance for everything to go as Lanteri planned and come back to us in the morning.

Oh and just a by the way, I hope she has fun trying to dock on the island without a dinghy since we have the ships last one with us, hehehe Socraties, winks to the rest of the crew and snickers to himself with this last comment, enjoying the bit of irony he has caused by his earlier plan destroying 3 of the ships 4 dinghies leaving the ship with only the one for his team to take out on landing trips.

Dragos flips the captain's wedding band up into the air several feet before snapping it out of the air with the same hand. He puts the ring back in a pocket, the physical representation of the captain's promise to return.

I may be an old sea dog now, but when it's all out in the open, maybe I still have too much of that naive farmer boy in me. he shakes his head. A strong part of him still wants to believe the captain, but he can hardly blame the others for feeling betrayed.

What's the worst that could happen? he muses as he considers joining them in their retribution.

The consideration doesn't last long. The fact of the matter is that the captain was right, this crew could do some serious damage. Why not be a part of the group that claims a much larger share than even the captain had promised?

"Wait fer the old man!" he shouts, gasping to keep up.

Nyvorlas and Moselle stick close together on the walk back. More than once he gives his father in law a glare.

"This makes no sense. If Captain Lanteri suspects us of mutiny, why come back and get us? The contract is broken, though I am no Chlexian lawyer, in my mind at least. The relationship cannot be repaired.

"We should focus our efforts on getting out of here and exacting retribution. She is a good captain, but I shall never sail with her again.” As his fiery words erupt from his mouth, he can feel the anger subside inside him, leaving his feeling tired and frustrated. "We'll take first watch."

On the way back to the beach

"Fey you say. And I am without cold iron. I have always found fey, especially those in their homes, to be tough bastards to root out. But I see that once again Setare has found a cause. No one harder to dissuade on the perils of altruism than a paladin with a cause. We're in."

Upon reaching the beach,

I don't need any more justification to help ya, but I am gonna be needing a favor in return if Jack's gonna help. Our treacherous captain has left us. I need a way to go find and kill her. I'll take care of your problem if ye let us borrow a few of those Hippocampi to chase her down. We'll be returning them eventually.

"Aye, the fey won't be easy ta deal with, but we can fix yer problem." Dragos speaks up again, but doesn't say much more. He realizes he will still need to re-earn his standing with this group.

I have cold iron blanched crossbow bolts, and a potion of magic weapon. I can make my crossbow bolts +1 cold iron and be decently effective, that is probably my best play. Ready when everyone else is!

GM, is it safe to assume I will have time to apply the potion of magic weapon? The cold iron blanch is already applied to the bolts since it technically doesn't wear off.

She has a standard bot spoiler in her bio, but she can't reach the enemy to be able to attack this round. Probably the best action would be to either wait until the enemy comes to shore, or attempt some sort of ranged action. Setare has some consumables, plus a crossbow. We know that we will need cold iron to hurt her, so the crossbow is probably useless. She has acid and alchemist's fire. She could potentially also drink her potion of touch of the sea but I hate to use someone's consumables for them. Socraties said don't try acid, so personally, I would vote she either throw an alchemist fire and hope to draw her to shore, or drink her touch of the sea potion in case she needs to go chase. Just my .02

Worried for his wife, Nyvorlas moves parallel to the shore line and begins his psychic casting. The others don't see the chanting of the arcane spellcasters, or the presentation of a holy symbol of a divine caster, but all can tell some magic in emanating from him.

Cast Cause Fear DC 15 Will Save or become Frightened. Successful save - Shaken for 1 Round.

HOW DARE YOU CAST YOUR MAGIC UPON ME!

The woman casts her hands out, and a roaring blast of water shoots forth, slamming into Nyvorlas!

Waterspout: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 2 = 13

Apparently not used to the sensation of fear however, all the water does is soak him a little as he steps aside from the primary rush of water.

Jenesara for her part rushes by with her hippocampus...

Lance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Damage: 3d8 + 12 ⇒ (6, 8, 4) + 12 = 30

and strikes the fey hard with her lance, though the power of the blow seems to not fully translate from the lance held by Jenesara.

As she turns in annoyance, Jack's bolt strikes her and she let's out a scream of pain... apparently, all of THAT went through! Dragos does not have similar luck as his arrow goes wide.

Jack rushes forward planning to strike at the fey, but the water quickly deepens beneath him, forcing him to swim. He reaches the fey who stands in the water with a wicked smile, clearly unhampered by the waves.

Your in deep enough water that your forced to swim, so no attack, i'm pretty sure you can make the swim check but you should make it anyways.

I drank a potion of touch of the sea in the prep time so I currently have a 30 foot swim speed.

Sorry, for some reason my brain said that with a swim speed you couldn't charge.

Jack hits the fey hard.

Sorry everyone - had a family emergency and wasn't able to post. Should be back to normal now.

Dragos quickly side steps (5' adjust) and reloads his crossbow with another blanched bolt. He lifts the stock to his shoulder and clicks the trigger, wishing he could be using his whip instead.
