Thanking the ever helpful elf, Nyvorlas begins to slather the grease along his shoulders and arms. As he does he hears chuckles from behind him.
”My love, that is not nice to mock me.” he chides his wife as he sniffs the grease.
Fully lathered, the elf still turns sideways as he shimmies through the cracks to join his friends.

This large chamber has a sixty-foot-high ceiling supported by several thick stone columns. The worked stone of the southwest wall remains uncovered by coral, and is decorated with engravings of crude giant figures and roughly formed runes. The columns have markings chiseled into them as well, in what could be many different styles of handwriting.
Smashed stone tables and oversized benches are piled in the southeastern section of the room. Beyond the rubble, a tunnel slopes down to the east, and another descends from the southwest corner.
The team easily hears the sounds of creatures coming up the hallway! As they turn to meet the threat, they see zombies rush into the room... something is wrong though. The 4 zombies seem to have shellfish like creatures over their heads that pulse and beat like a strange cross between a brain and a heart. They also drip the same black ichor as before.
The creatures howl, and prepare to attack!

Dragos Pavlenco |
GM - Just noticed something as I look at the map. Dragos has Combat Reflexes, which allows him a bunch of extra AoOs, and the ability to take them even when flat-footed. With his whip (which he threatens with thanks to Improved Whip Mastery) he has a 15' reach, so anything coming into melee with him will certainly provoke. It looks like both of the creatures that attacked Setare must have come through that. I'll roll for my attacks here and you can adjudicate as necessary.
As the strange, seemingly mind-controlling shellfish approach, Dragos whip cracks impossibly fast.
AoO #1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 for Weapon of Awe: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
AoO #2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 for Weapon of Awe: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
GM_Starson |
Nifty.
Dragos cracks his whip with impossible speed, the whip slapping against zombie bodies with a loud TWAP!
Setare follows up with a slash that neatly severs the things head. The zombie's head groans from the ground as the THING that was on the ground seperates from the head, looking up at them with strange, horrible, inhuman eyes. As it withdraws needletipped tendrils from the zombies head, the head goes still...
Another zombie thing tries to rush forward and attack Setare... who gets the hang of it now and headshots the zombie again, sending the head tumbling. The shellfish like thing releases the head, also staring at the group... those tendrils look awfully sharp...

GM_Starson |
This dark cavern of slimy black coral is drowned in stagnant salt water. Dozens of corpses— sharks, fish, humans, and stranger things—float on the surface in various states of decomposition. Some are covered in black chitin while others are pale and broken. A stair of black coral winds downward from east to west along the northern wall. A sagging rope bridge in the western part of the cavern dips almost to the surface of the water. On the southwest side of the underground cove floats a massive old ship. The ship’s tattered rigging and waterlogged boards creak lightly in the silent cavern, and limp floating corpses surround its blackened hull, like mourners at a grotesque wake.
In the distance, standing in the middle of the ship, you can see the Captain. Captain Varossa Lanteri stands on the deck, her rapier and pistol drawn for battle. Glittering gold chains circle her neck and a thin silver tiara tilts unevenly on her forehead. Her arms and torso are covered in black chitin. Dangling from her belt is a large, curved horn comprising three interlocking pieces.
She does not seem to be moving at all, just standing in place in the middle of the ship as if locked in place.
Jack Escalara |
Odd behavior that, just standing there. Maybe she has a creature attached to her head. Either way, down thar be the way to the treasure. No reason to delay. Lets go give her what she has coming.
Jack will cast Expeditious Retreat and Protection from Evil on himself before heading down the stairs.
Dragos Pavlenco |
"This black taint is everywhere in this cavern, looks maybe like it might've gotten the captain too. Careful, she's a keen shot with that pistol. Even still, methinks whatever that black coral is be the bigger threat. All the gold in the world won't matter if ye lose yer mind afore you can spend it." Dragos warns as he moves toward the tattered rope bridge.
GM_Starson |
The team moves onto the gangplank, and the Captain stands there... she doesn't seem to move at all, standing stock still.
Socraties |
Sense Motive+Inspiration: 1d20 + 15 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 15 + (2) = 31
She isn't acting on her own, she is being controlled, but she is still in there. I know some of you want her dead either way, but lets at least give her a chance to talk, it is likely one of those Incutulis, maybe if we can find it and cut it off of her she will be okay.
Dragos Pavlenco |
"I'm thinking this be a bit like what we saw on Creed, just more advanced. There got ta be a brain around here somewhere..." Dragos flicks his whip as he scans the room, ceiling and walls.
"Might be in tha ship, and the captain be it's new guard dog. She can't rightly face justice when she ain't got control o her own mind. I expect she'll fight back when we get close enough. Let's see if I can do somethin about that pistol..."
Dragos calls upon his goddess, asking for the most divine of favors, then advances carefully towards the woman, expecting her to fire off a shot when he gets close enough. As soon as he closes in on the outer range of his whip, he coils his arm back, ready to flick the end at the firearm.
So casting divine favor then I would like to get to 15' away and attempt to disarm the captain of her pistol. Not sure at what point that sparks initiative, so let me know!
Jack Escalara |
Much like Dragos, once we get right before crossing onto the ship, Jack will also cast Divine Favor.
