A wave of sadness washes over Nyvorlas as he sees the remains of Ortun and Coatl. No stranger to loss he pushes aside the grief to concentrate on Moselle and what she is seeing.

He immediately recognizes the name of the helmsman and the danger of the apparition down below. Quickly casting ride the waves he dives down deep to join his companions pulling out his wand of cure light wounds as he swims.

Aaaand now we're in rounds. Everyone on the surface is 40 feet up. I will need swim checks to move now, very important. I'm going to say that 2 rounds have passed since divers went down, mark that off spells appropriately, i'll be counting on you guys to track your own spells. Blue box is the hole in the side of the ship that you can move through.

Init Setare: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Init Nyvorlas : 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Init Jack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Init Halid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

As Dragos enters the hull, the ship seems to twist and shake around him, churning the water and tumbling him in mid air! Swim check DC 20 to move inside the ship!

To make matters worse, water begins to swirl around him like a vortex...
Dragos Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage NL: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Dragos Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Dragos manages to pull away as the whirling vortex of water rolls past him, and though he's a little battered by the pressure, it could be far worse. The spectral figure turns and glares at him.

Forgotten! Unloved! My Treasured Belina! All is lost to Dragon Fury!

Socraties will then cast message on himself, Nyvorlas and Halid(standard). He will use the connection to share what he knows with Nyvorlas (I am hoping he can share with Moselle through telepathy or something and she can talk or he can cast message for Dragos to get informed if needed) and speak out loud directly to Jack and Setare to share with them.

(Since no one seemed to need to take my wand of CLW I am going to say I am still holding it, wouldn't have wanted to waste my first potion to put it back in the sheath and knowing how important it is to have on hand he wouldn't have put it in his bag)

For my action below I am assuming it is a haunt.

After sharing his info Socraties will use the message he cast on the haunt to talk to the haunt.Your sorrow is palpable sir, but you are in luck, I have good news, your beautiful Belina is a member of our crew and you are not forgotten. She mourns for you medallion in hand, her sorrow at night can be heard throughout the cabins. When asked she tells the story of her other who held her as his greatest treasure. She misses you so, that she will not even speak your name saying it is too painful to hear it recalled out loud. I will make sure to tell her of your sorrow when we return to the deck, as she will want to know the strength of your passion extends even beyond the grave.

Socrates speaks sweet words to try and persuade the dead man. But he seems trapped in his own sorrow.

BELINA! He cries out MY TREASURE! I WILL NEVER HOLD YOU! I WILL NEVER SEE YOU!

With that, he gazes at drago, his one eye burning with the fires of the undead, filled with sorrow and anger...

Damage: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
Drago Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Drago feels himself burn on the inside of his body, but he's made out of stern stuff, and though he feels pain, he feels like he's avoided the worst of it.

Socrates wracks his brain for information. Clearly, this is a ghost... his touch and his gaze are dangerous! His gaze especially could burn away your soul! Though he suspects the torrent currently harrying Dragos is a separate effect all together, perhaps a haunt encapsulating the entire ship!

The vortex tries to strike Dragos again...

Dragos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Nonlethal damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Dragos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

This time the vortex whirls around Dragos, tumbling him like wash in a barrel. You can attempt a reflex save to escape, otherwise your held in your square. Anyone within 30 feet of the ghost will take ]Damage: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 7) = 14 unless you avoid his gaze per gaze attack rules, and you must also make a fort save of 14 each turn or take...Charisma Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3 as well

Sorry buddy. My friend over there is lying. We've been sailing with Belina for weeks now. Never heard of ya. Never seen your pendant. Best move on along to the next world - nothing left for ya here. Let Jack help...

Jack misses the spirit as he swings, but looking around gets him a good look at the details of the haunt... faint flashes and images of dying, screaming men throwing themselves to the ground as the ship rocks from something massive shaking the entire boat, and making the whole thing list and tip back and forth. He thinks that this haunt was probably created by the fear and terror of the ghost and his comrades dying all at once in terror, though only this particular person's unfinished business has been enough to make them into a ghost, the others have generated the haunting effects. They are most likely linked.

"Graaahhh!" Dragos cries out, grateful for the bubble of air around his head. The thought of drowning makes him shudder, but he knows he must escape this vortex if at all possible, and do it while not looking at that terrible gaze of the spirit.

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

In his efforts to escape, the water calms for the briefest of seconds. At least, Dragos convinces himself it did. Before he tries to figure out if he slipped out of the vortex or not, he calls upon the fickle favor of his mistress.

Channel Positive energy to harm undead/haunts: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 takes 2 uses of fervor to do this, I'm down to 1. Hoping if there is a haunt and this ghost, it hurts both of them.

So, I have a swim speed with the touch of the sea. Assuming I escaped the vortex, I would like to get closer to the ghost. If the reflex save used up my move action, I'll just 5' step. If it didn't, I will close to melee while still averting my eyes. Plus the standard action of channeling positive energy.

Edit: Ugh. that roll stinks. Sigh, oh well :)

You are always treated as averting your gaze when dealing with gaze attacks, and you gain a +8 circumstance bonus on saving throws against visual-based attacks (any attack that a blind creature would be immune to). You have a –4 penalty on Perception checks while wearing the goggles, and all opponents are treated as having concealment (20% miss chance).

After that, Jack will cast detect magic and begin swimming around, looking for the piece of the horn, or anything else magical or valuable.

So, I'm a bit of a dope sometimes. I just realized I cast air bubble on myself, so I actually have 5 minutes of it. The touch of the sea potion only lasts a minute though, so I've likely got around 30 seconds left...

Dragos is keenly aware of how short lived this spell for moving through the water can be, and so waits to heal himself while he searches the boat. Buzzing around, he helps cover more ground, allowing the magical detectors to help guide his search

With the undead back to being dead, Nyvorlas attempts to sign in relief. Underwater, it doesn't work out quite like he hoped.

"Many thanks Jack." the half-elf thanks the half-orc.

Worried about Moselle, but knowing that time is pressing, he urges her forward. "I know you are unwell my love, just a bit more and we can leave this place of horrors."

Moselle floats around the wreckage looking for the mcguffin.

I am darling. It takes a woman to find something you know.

Plunder and Peril Ship 1 Plunder and Peril Ship 2

It takes several dives, and Moselle's persistence to help keep track of everything, but after about a hour of searching, she finds it. Tucked underneath a bit of debris is the piece of the Three reasons to live. As the team brings it back to the ship, the captain grabs the horn piece, and holds it up high!

Two pieces down crew! One to go!

A hug cheer goes up as the captain smiles widely. She looks at the remains of Ortun and Coatl and sighs.

Ain't all happy news I guess though. We'll break out extra drink rations for them tonight... give them a proper burial, best we can, and turn them over to the sea.

She tucks the horn next to the other piece on her hip.

And then... on to the third and final piece.

Scarab Sages

Setare is truly amazed about this family that has joined their ranks and especially Moselle is an intriguing being. Without the aid of Nyvorlas and Dragos they would never have made it against the ghost.

When the group returns to the ship and all start to cheer, Setare retreats ... she is more concerned with the remains of her deceased companions and not in the mood for festivities.

She prays to Sarenrae to shine bright on their souls on their way to the afterlife.

”Ortun and Coatl ... I will always remember you!“ she says lying in her bed.

"Come now, you know that there will be no others, living or dead, than you." Nyvorlas' hand caresses the phantom. "Belina, a moment of your time if you will. I know that the young undine took a fancy for you, and I am sorry that he met an untimely end." the half elf offers her a drink. "Down there, at the wreckage, we met a spirit that called your name over and over again. A young Garundi man, though he said not his name. And he mentioned an amulet." Nyvorlas pauses to see her reaction.

"I too know the pain of losing the one you love. If I can help in anyway ... please know I am here for you." the half elf lingers.

Belina blinks for a moment.

Garundi... huh... OH!

She fishes a small silver amulet out of her coin purse and holds it up.

You must have run into Halid! Well... his ghost i guess... Poor guy... he was the navigator of the Saber's Kiss.

She shakes her head.

In love with me? Crazy... I never had any feelings for him at all... He gave me this trinket as good luck charm, said it was just a "Navigator to Navigator" gift... I never spared it a second thought!

The charm is nice, maybe worth a couple of gold, but nothing magical or impressive.

Awful what happened to Ortun... Seems men who take a liking to me meet bad ends. I almost started to like him a little bit back.

She sighs.

I'll have some thinking to do on that later, that's for sure.

Upon arriving back on the ship Socraties will fake joy and smile to the members of the crew at the successful retrieval, but will spend the evening of celebration somberly drinking himself stupid in a corner contemplating what happened to Ortun and Coatl, still blaming himself for their death as the one who suggested they scout ahead. He fully anticipates waking up still on the deck of the ship the next morning from passing out drinking.

"There be worse places to end up." Dragos says, lifting a mug of rum up to the tipsy Socraties. "Gangrene and marooned is no place to go. Somthin tells me drownin' be even worse, chokin on the water what carried ye fer so long. At least the shark made it quick fer the wild one." Dragos tips some of his rum out, splattering it on the deck, not the first time this evening, and not for the last either.

Don't feel too bad lass - this is a dangerous life. We'll drink to the fallen, make sure they're remembered. But don't be too upset - they all knew what they were getting in to.

The sun rises high the next day as the crew sets sail once again. The Captain has a bounce in her step, and occasionally you can hear Hinsin playing his flute in their cabin. Despite the excitement and loss of crewmembers the day before, life goes back to mostly normal for a bit...

This is another "Interact with the crew" segment. Say what your doing, and who your interacting with, and I'll play it to each of you. Dragos and Nyvorlas are a special case since they are already crew members... everyone knows and is familiar with them, but no reason not to get to know some of your shipmates better!

"Witching hour. I couldn't sleep, knowing what we was planning to do in just a few more hours. Never got the chance though." Dragos takes a long drag on a pipe, leaning forward on the barrel he was sitting on.

The old man was holding court on the deck, the gentle sway and bob of the ship providing a backdrop for his story. A gaggle of crewmembers surround him, taking advantage of a break in all the chores.

"Skinny elf, long blonde hair in his shiny plate mail kicked the door in. I couldn't hardly sit up outta my bed afore they were draggin me out. They were'nt to gentle neither, making sure I hit every piece of furniture and door jamb on me way through. Turned the whole house upside down. Didn't find anything, but they didn't care. Torched it, then dragged me off to the docks." Dragos takes another drag, a scar partially hidden by his beard twitching.

"Ironic, them #*$&ing elves looked even further down they noses at the slavers than they did me. Slavers ain't cared none though, gold is gold is gold, and they knew they would get good gold fer me. So the chains went on, and I lost the last chance I had ta avenge me daughter. I never did ask Nyvorlas how long he waited when I never showed." Dragos scans the group, noticing Jack standing among them.

"Got sold a couple a times afore finally landing on the siren's lament. That be the first time I met Jack here. Didn't get a chance to talk about it earlier, but ye got a good eye mate." he addresses the half-orc with a wry grin and a nod. "Back then, I cursed all the gods. Sea life took to me quick though, and I realized I was in the only place where I could forget about what happened to me family. Jack sang his song and Besmara sounded sweet. Someday maybe I'll get another crack at them that murdered Moselle. Fer now, its salty spray and the promise o' gold that soothes me mind."

Wanted to get a taste of back story out there, and interact with some random crew, also tie in Jack. Dragos, after breaking free of slavery (story still to be written) became a smuggler. He has some sleight of hand skills he is pretty good at that might be good for interacting with the crew somehow. I'm still a little fuzzy how this all works.

When Socraties eventually wakes the next day he will spend some time staggering around to get his feet, intentionally not using his Alchemist's Kindness telling himself that when the hangover wears off is when he can let his mistake go.

After some morning grub, he will find his way to the Master-At-Arms.

I owe you for that black powder, it was a magnificent explosion, I bet you saw it from the ship. Owe you for the dinghys too, just let take me with you when we hit the next port for supplies and I will pay for them. That will be a fun one to re-enact in my stage shows. I'm sure you have your own stories worth retelling, care to share, maybe you can inspire me to save the black powder next time? He says his last phrase with a small chuckle behind his words, though the intent is of full seriousness.

Dragos story captures Setare’s attention.

”Dragos, thi... this was a captivating story! Rea... really!“

Setare understands that she has to get to know her companions and the crew ... who know how much time they still have together. When she is is together with the crew she listens and learns.

You're certainly not the first slave to hear the call of the sea, Dragos. Something aobut the sea - the size, the freedom. It calls to people. Glad to see ye' made it out of the chains. Besmara is not a kind Goddess - but she'll help keep ya free, if yer willing to work for that freedom.

Are there any crew members we haven't interacted with yet? I'd like to have a chance to meet all the crew members, either with Jack or by reading another PC's interactions

You've met and interacted with every named crew member at least once. Vancid is the only one who's not had at least 1 influence attempt made on him, and Socrates is having a go of it right now. Plenty can still be influenced or affected more, or the original go failed to produce results.

"Fer now at least, she keeps me from goin mad." Dragos lifts a mug to Jack in response. "Or maybe it's the serenity of the sea that does that. Funny thing is, good chance that one or both of those mistresses will be what drives me mad in the end! Ha!" the old man lets loose a hearty laugh, slapping his leg.

"Unless Iulia doesn't drive me mad first!" he grins, speaking her name properly, as opposed to the mis-pronunciation that some of the newest crew-mates were prone to do. At the thought of the group he and his son-in-law have joined, his face wavers for a moment, but only the briefest of moments before he flashes a mischievous grin at the surly quartermaster.

You are welcome Jack.
GM, just playing level 12s doesn't warrant luck, but playing my 13 and your 14 in a 14-15 sub-tier doing hard mode does. ;P

P.S. I don't have anything in character to do till Vancid responds.
