Tagalong uses:
Beginning on the second round of any combat, a PC may order a single follower to assist her as a move action. If she succeeds at a DC 12 Diplomacy or Intimidate check, she gains a +2 aid another bonus on her next check, or to her Armor Class for 1 round.

The various refugees can also assist with their limited skills, such as using Heal checks to patch up the PCs between encounters, or even rush into battle if things look dire (though any NPC is unlikely to survive even a single blow from a trained soldier).

Character Creation:
20 point buy
Standard Races as well as Aasimar, Dhampir, Ifrits, Oreads, Sylphs, Tieflings, and Undines allowed
Avg gold for class and a free heirloom*
Background Skills per Pathfinder Unchained are in use
2 traits, one campaign, one other
Drawbacks are allowed, giving you access to one more trait
Max hp at first

*Heirloom - Being the child of one of the Keepers of the Flame you have been gifted an heirloom from your parents to help with your journeys. Pick any single item from your previous character as a bonus item during creation.

Houserule: Instant Death: This is something I have developed over time and while it comes up rarely I feel it adds to dramatic tension when it does show. If you roll a 20 on your attack, and follow with a 20 on your critical confirmation you get one more attack roll at the same bonuses. If this attack roll meets or exceeds AC the creature being attacked is instantly killed, regardless of any effect that may prevent such a thing from happening.

I use this both for and against PCs, and in the many years I’ve run using this rule (or had it adapted by my players who wanted a turn GMing) I have seen exactly 1 PC die because of it, where I have seen probably 25 or so NPCs die. 8 of them were in one campaign from a Praying Mantis animal companion (which was later Awakened and gained Monk levels to become Mantis-Bro)

Houserule: Sometimes you're just faster: A natural 20 on the initiative check will put you as the first person to act in the round, regardless of bonuses or negatives normally applied. I like the thought that heroes (and occasionally villains) have that little extra 'oomph' to get the first shot in as everything around them devolves to chaos and mayhem.

If you guys don't want these house-rules to be invoked let me know and we won't use it.

Any limitations on class? I was thinking about trying a keneticist, but don't want to go there unless you are OK with it.

If it's Paizo made I'm fine with it. I'm not sure if I'll be through reading everything I need to by next week but I'll try.

Special requests for other races, classes, whatever I'll look at on a case by case basis.

Thank you Fez, I like how this is laid out. I'll post ideas while I having them, but am leaning towards an Oread something.

Thanks Fez for setting this up. Brightening up my days.

I want to play a CHA class this time around, but I don't like bards and I've played sorcerers in the past. I am looking at (and liking) Mesmerist at the moment but I worry that its a bit one dimensional and so my initial thought is to combine it with a dip into either Gunslinger or Swashbuckler (depending, amongst other things, on your collective feelings on guns)

The idea is a sort of enigmatic charismatic rabble-raiser.

I don't think Bel is the family type, but I'll find a way to tie it all together.

Final note, Fez how would you feel about me using a corruption from Horror Adventures at character creation?

Which corruption are you thinking? I've got the book so I can see if it'll be able to fit in the campaign.

Nothing too ostentatious. Probably either accursed or possessed. I was making a character for another recruitment (now scraped 'cos we're rolling again) and quite liked the extra dimension that corruptions offer.

I like characters that have various different arcs to progress down.

First off, no issues with the house rules.

Second, what are people leaning towards playing? I have several ideas, any of which I'd enjoy playing but want to make sure we don't have any glaring holes. Tiefling cleric, half-elf summoner, dwarven or human bloodrager, or even a half-elf rogue all come to mind.

Last, I think we should start talking about who's descended from who and work together to try to construct backgrounds between the children and parents. If someone wants to play a halfling, it's easy to be Qina's child. Playing an elf might require a little more imagination.

Accursed will be the best fit, in all likelihood given to you by a Blighted Fey from Fangwood.

I'll be posting a gameplay thread soon just so I can go under this alias and find the campaign.

As for Gad, he's not big on personal relationships, since he's focused on self improvement mostly. Although that does not mean he wouldn't EVER have a relationshio if someone wanted to make a child of Gad'larr too. But having been adopted means he is more than willing to do adoptions, and being a parent is the biggest challenge of all!

Right now...I'm thinking of starting out with a Tiefling Telekinetic. I can just see Gad falling in love with a tiefling baby, ignoring the child's looks, whatever they are.

Do you allow the Tiefling Varients Chart? If so I'm thinking the best option is rolling 3 times and taking the best option from there? I like trying random stuff sometimes.

Tiefling Varient?: 1d10 ⇒ 4 Demon
Tiefling Varient?: 1d10 ⇒ 2 Daemon
Tiefling Varient?: 1d10 ⇒ 10 Rakshasa

Hmm...I have to say the Demon variant is the most interesting. I like the idea of the Shatter spell-like ability for a telekinetic.

Character Basics: (Feel free to nix anything here GM Fez)

Govrina Fireblood (Adopted daughter of Gad'larr)
NG Demon-Spawn Tiefling Telekineticist
Alternate Racial traits (if allowed)
*Prehensile Tail Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery.
*Vestigial Wings Some tieflings possess a pair of undersized, withered, or stunted wings like a mockery of those of their fiendish forbearer. Sometimes these wings are leathery, like those of a bat. Other times they are covered with a scattering of black, red, or violet feathers. Rare manifestations can take even more bizarre forms. These wings do not provide the lift required for actual flight, but do have enough power to aid flight attained by some other method, and grant a +4 racial bonus on Fly skill checks. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Heirloom?: Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (Made from Dragon Scales)

Basic History: The actual daughter of a rare good-aligned Alu demon, Govrina was delivered as a baby to Gad'larr under mysterious circumstances from a distant land. Raising her as his own, Gad raised her with an iron will until her 16th birthday when Gad was summoned back to Jalmeray. He left her, promising to return...that was several years ago.

What do you think GM Fez?
=)
Anybody?

Accursed is perfect for what I'm working on.

If the varients charts are ok I'll take a chance on the Aasimar option:

1d100 ⇒ 3
1d100 ⇒ 51
1d100 ⇒ 97

And an appearance ..

1d100 ⇒ 86
1d100 ⇒ 90
1d100 ⇒ 12

Wanna be a fireblood? It would be pretty awesome if I had an Aasimar sister or brother!

For background I'm going to just go for it. Feel free if you disagree with the creative license I've taken with the party.

I'm thinking an Oread son of Vivian that was raised by Qina and Brezik's families in Kassen Vivian wasn't a perfect mother, she actually entered into a few battles while knowingly pregnant with her only child. It took the intervention of the Keepers literally snacking some sense into her to and settle down for the last 4 or 5 months. Once the oread was born she had trouble staying. The oread grew up with more of a sisterly relationship with his mother.

For class, thinking ranger, monk, or warpriest. Playing with the multiclass idea of an empyreal sorcerer monk.

Aeon Throne : Hell's Masked Rebels

Looking monk or ranger now. Wanting to get away from the divine character a little more than the warpriest would allow. A maneuver monk maybe. Just starting to read over ranger.

I'm thinking Vivs zeal didn't tranfer to the Oread. Instead he's found great kinship to nature and thinks of himself as the lands protector through blood.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Halfling Inactive

Qina would never object to helping the group or the children. Btw, I don't know if you meant to say "snacking some sense" but that works so much better for Qina and Brezik.

The other option, if children are not something a character would want, or if you want to play a longer lived race, is an apprentice of sorts. Someone who your character mentored or played a large part in the new character's life.

Variants are cool. Go nuts.

EDIT: Gameplay thread is up. Drop and delete a post in there and I'll fix the characters that are playing when final decisions are made in the campaign tab.

Malachite Eldaanesh Sunscale is the son of Alister Sunscale and an unnamed Ghaele Azata, wooed by his tales of adventures in the Isle of dread. Raised by his father he learned his values and cheery disposition. But soon enough the wanderlust of his maternal blood drew him away.

In recent years he has been travelling as a tinker; buying, selling and trading his was across Nirmathas. He never offers a bum deal and often comes out for the worse if he feels sorry for a customer.

But there is a dark side to Mal, he has a cold furry when stoked and mercylessly takes all slights to heart.

'Mal' Sunscale
CG Museborn Aasimar Mesmerist (with a dash of swashbuckler/gunslinger)
Corruption: Accursed(Undying hatred)
Heirloom: Bel's glowing raven figurine. (Or +1 daggger, not desided yet)

That's the gist of it, more fluff and crunch to come. Not siblings I'm afraid Gad but I think Mal would have a protective relationship with all his "cousins" there'll still be lots of lovely tiefling-aasimar interplay.

Any thoughts?

Gad, Govrina looks great. I think the two of them would be close, with lots of 'banter'

Works for me!

I see Govrina as bubbly and happy, but with a bad temper.

Her chaotic inner nature is constantly at odds with her father's discipline and training. That's why I went with NG for her alignment. I felt it shows her constant struggle between her blood and her family.

I can SEE the witty banter brewing!

Lots of tools in this toolbox, but review is almost over. Need to tweak the maps a touch probably but I should have everything needed to start done with soon.

I should have my halfling Divine Commander Warpriest with wolf animal companion/mount ready by this weekend. How is everyone else doing?

Zerg Hydralisk Mad Engineer

I'm thinking an Oread Unchained Elemental Monk, if unchained monk is allowed. Should be able to finish him up by Friday.

Gad was an unchained monk! He had a penchant for fire too.

Maybe Gad had a favored student after all?

Wow. I mean, just WOW! What a cool choice of character! I love it.

I should have Govrina finalized by this weekend too.

I'm been struggling with the Oread son idea, coming back to the monk class a few times but something just wasn't clicking with it. I've been thinking though, Viv has a half orc in her background who introduced her to Gorum. My idea is that Viv and Gad hooked up one night and afterward she said it was a mistake and then left. Returning years later with a half orc son. She then insists that she found the half orc from her past and that he is the father, when really it is Gad.

Viv wasn't a great mom, she focused on other things more and more as the boy grew older and they passionately clashed on differences. Being raised amid a military school, he is a strong fighter but really rebels from authority.

I propose a half orc arcane bloodrager, where the rage is Ferris zeal and the magical power is Fireblood.

The boy really has a rebelious and mischievous side, similar to what it sounded like Gad had before he was sent away. The abilities of the bloodline mesh well with learning to fight around casters and knowing how dangerous they can be, while also being the son of a powerful monk.

So Gad wouldn't know he had a son? Interesting. Now the big question: Would the son know? Would Vivan have told HIM?

GM? Would you allow Varient Multiclassing? I was thinking about maybe mixing in some monk stuff since she was raised by Gad.

I was thinking that the truth of it would not be known by anyone, but the boy would want to find out and at some point that secret would be available for the GM.

For multi-classing we're either going regular or variant, no mixing between the two. So it's up to you guys, but once the choice is made we're sticking with it as a group. Easier to keep track of this way. If everyone is cool with the variant then have your secondary class written somewhere in your character profile.

This could add a lot of flavor and background and it would help to set a different feel apart from the Keepers of the Everflame. I think it works here but totally up to you guys.

I would prefer to multiclass as I would like to dip 3 levels into Questioner Investigator at some point down the line but it's not critical.

What about just dipping 1 or 2 levels into monk off the back and switching over to Kinetist?

Vraxis Coldfire is pretty much ready to go, and so is Fang.

The son of Qina, Vraxis has very little in common with his mother. Where Qina is beautiful and charismatic, Vraxis is ugly and rude. Most are instantly turned away by his appearance. Those that are not typically see him as almost comical, too funny to take seriously.

Where Qina was arcane, Vraxis is divine. He did not inherit his mother's powers, but he learned to pray, and in doing so was gifted by Chaldira Zuzaristan, the halflings deity of battle, luck, and mischief.

Where Qina is quick and lithe, Vraxis is strong. He's also smarter than his mother, but just as loyal. He would defend anyone, even those that would laugh at him.

Mechanically he'll be using Aid Another, Mounted Combat, and Sling focused feats. He's a survivalist, especially with Fang's help, and he can heal.

I only bring this up now...but @GM Fez:

What do you think of Hero points? I prefer to play with them, but I know our original GM was against them.

How do you feel? For or against?

I'm out of practice with them to the point that I wouldn't remember that we were using them at all. Because of that the flow of points would be...slow to say the least. We can use them, but don't be expecting too many to be handed out without prodding me a lot.

It's pretty easy enough (if I remember correctly).

You get 1 per level, max 3 without feats, and they don't refresh.
Can only spend 1 per round maximum.

Basic uses(that matter):
Add +1d6 to a single d20 roll
Re-roll a single d20.
Burn all you have left (min 1) and somehow survive something deadly by sheer luck, grace or a god intervention...

GMs can give them out as bonuses for roleplaying, or whatever they want.
(Not needed.)

What do the rest of you think?

I'm not married to the idea, but I've always thought it was a fun idea that PCs are sometimes just more lucky or just better in general than the average schlub. But that's just me.

How are dealing with kit GM? Have we got it all with us?

Yep, you've got all your gear with you. Anything that you don't think is travelable would be in your rooms upstairs, which can be retrieved after this fight.

Anyone know where Dom's gone off to?

If any successful attacks this round are at blue, it takes an extra point of damage from Mal's painful stare.
