GMEDWIN
Well, it seems the only one in the party who can do it is the Bard.
The Bard puts away his Zither and walks to each door individually and listens [ooc] Left door 25%1d100 ⇒ 27, Center 25%1d100 ⇒ 41, Right 25%1d100 ⇒ 10
He then says, "Through the center door I could clearly hear the sound of either mules or donkeys. But through both the left and right doors, I could not hear anything."
Zaheed Rahim
"Excellent! Now Uthman, you picked the door to the left, which means we should go to the right!"
Possessed with an excitement he had forgotten was possible, Zaheed charges through the door on the right.
GMEDWIN
Zaheed opens the door to the right and finds a hall that is luxuriantly decorated with elaborate mosaics of abstract patterns covering the walls and floor. The columns, made of white alabaster, rise to support the vaulted ceiling.
There are crates containing provisions of food other things.
There are three doors that lead out of this room excluding the one you came in from. You can surmise that the door to the right leads to the room where you attacked the guards with the fountains which leave a door that is a quick left from the door you entered from basically parrallel. And then there is another door further down inside the hall.
First Left or second left?
Zaheed Rahim
Just going to keep pushing ahead here until someone says slow down. As for these doors, I have a feeling Liath would say check the first one in case it's a guard shack. But I'm gonna ignore that.
Zaheed runs ahead, believing that speed is their greatest ally. He throws open the farthest door on the left.
GMEDWIN
This hall is decorated like area 1 and you can guess it is used as the living quarters for retainers in the complex. A total of 25 sleeping pallets cover the floor near the walls.
GM Rolls
Zaheed opens the door and crosses the threshold and sees 13 guards in purple stained dishdashahs and one dwarf who wears a purple fez, leather armor, and purple silk pantaloons. The dwarf wears a gold earring. 8 of the 13 guards are sleeping in the pallets and the other five are playing cards.
You have a surprise round.
Uthman bin Assad
Not sure how much I can do in a surprise round?
Uthman rushes to the awake dwarf and tries to end him quickly and quietly.
THAC0 19 Long Sword: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (13) = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
THAC0 19 Dagger: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (9) = 10
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Zaheed Rahim
Now his blood is really flowing, and the capable warrior weaves his greatsword in a low arc, cutting the air in the direction of the dwarf.
Attack: 19 - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ 19 - (20) - 2 = -3
Critical Hit!: 2d10 + 4 ⇒ (9, 2) + 4 = 15
Nura Hamdani
Nura moves forward to also attack the dwarf.
THAC0 18: 18 - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ 18 - (20) - 2 = -4 Scimitar: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Are we using crits? If so, then that is a critical hit.
Zaheed Rahim
Can you put the map in the Campaign info? So there are 2 exits from this guard room - the one we came in through and another door to the left? Or are you referring to the previous door to the left that we passed to get to this room? Or are those the same door from opposite sides?
Zaheed searches the dwarf's body for keys.
1d20 ⇒ 11
GMEDWIN
I am referring to the current room so there is the door you came in from and another door on the other side of the room to the left. You can either go through the new door to the left or go back and go through any of the other doors you have not taken previously.
Zaheed
Liath Jasmine
|
Fadilah says, "These fine fellows won't sleep forever - someone may wish to tie them up."
Liath's lips curl into a smile. "Peradventure, I may be of some service here."
One at a time, Liath uses her skill at Rope Use to loop bonds around each sleeping form, tying them securely to their beds, so when they wake they will be as still as the sheets they lay on.
Zaheed Rahim
Zaheed helps with the rope binding and then leads the group back into the previous room, then through the door he had previously passed by.
Add the earring and gold to party treasure.
Zaheed Rahim
While supporting the weight of the prisoner, Zaheed cuts the ropes with his katar and removes the gag. He wonders again if everything the woman said was a ruse. Perhaps this prisoner was her objective all along?
"Quickly, tell us who you are and why you were imprisoned here in such a way!"
Other exits from this room?
GMEDWIN
The man scrapes at Zaheed's feet and says, "Oh, my name is Rashad, I was captured most recently while making a pilgrimage to Muluk from Hiyal. My party ran into a mule train near the river and we saw an elven woman wearing all red and asked her for directions and then her 12 friends murdered my friends and then decided to use me as some sort of sadistic play thing. I thank you most profusely and I pledge myself to your service for the next 12 months and a day. Najm be praised! Thank the Calipha of Muluk, may she reign a century and a day. Thank the Grand Caliph, may he be blessed with the heir that has been denied him for so long...."
Zaheed Rahim
If there are no other exits out of this room, we'll back through the room where we tied up all the guards and through the far door. I don't care if the prisoner comes with or flees, but if he leaves and takes one of our camels then no force of nature, god, or man on earth will save him from my wrath.
Nura Hamdani
Nura gives the prisoner her old scimitar. "It is used, but it has served me well," she says. "Be warned if you plot against us that your death will not be swift nor painless."
GMEDWIN
He would not know about the camels because you have not mentioned them. If anything he would probably take a mule.
You go back out of the prison and retrace your steps where some of the guards have started to attempt to break free but they are still gagged and you continue moving into the next room. Rashad grabs a scimitar.
The hall is luxuriantly decorated with elaborate mosaics of abstract patterns covering the walls and floor. The columns, made of white alabaster, rise to support the vaulted ceiling. Incongruous with this elegant setting, three 10-foot-tall mounds of ripe grapes are piled near the southern exits. However, you came in from the north.
Over 50 large urns are stacked along the western wall. Two wooden vats, over 10 feet in diameter, occupy the northern part of the hall. They are filled with grapes in the process of being stomped by four retainers. Six others watch from around the other side of the vats. There are three doors to the left and one door straight to the south of you.
Surprise 1d10 ⇒ 9, Initiative Party 1d10 ⇒ 6, Retainers 1d10 ⇒ 8

Liath lets out an inhuman screech of pain and rage as the only man of skill or speed amongst the attackers scores home a hit that would slay a normal man.
But she is neither man nor normal. Even as the blade, red with her blood, cuts back for another swing, she is already flailing, punching, her arms working like pistons to beat her foeman to a bloody pulp.
