Ok, let's do the background so we can get this up and running. As you're starting in book 2, some background will help.

A while back you were just a few noobs in Kenabres enjoying the annual festival. Then Demons hit the place, blowing up the wardstone and killing the Silver dragon defender of the city. The Dragon did you a kindness right before a Balor cut his head off and let you land safely in the caverns below the square in which you were celebrating the festival. You worked your way out of the undercity, and joined the rebellion against demon occupation. Luckily most of the demon army had moved on or you would likely be demon poop by now.

You big moment came when you raided demon HQ (run by the chump demons who got left on garrison duty), and you prevented one from using a ritual to blow up all the wardstones and kill the armies of the Medavian Crusade.

When the surviving fragment (used in the ritual) of the Kenabres ward stone blew up, you were endowed with power beyond the norm (mythic).

Since then you have been leading an army of paladins into the worldwound to retake the citadel of Drezen and reclaim the Sword of Valor, an artifact created by Iomedae, and lost when the citadel fell to treachery many years ago.

At your feet lays the body of a dead chimera. This was an especially nasty version of the type with that cheating mythic stuff. However you were all better because of the cheating mythic stuff coupled with over the top gestsalt stuff. Before you lies the gate into the Citadel which is currently under siege from your army.

The army will hold your back while you go inside to get your murder hobo on and loot the place, er I mean reclaim it for the crusade.

Solid iron portals allow passage through this square, mostly intact gatehouse. A damaged portcullis hangs raised just five feet above the floor.

Whenever we're ready to head in, Rayne drinks his mutagen and heads through sword in hand, trying to bait out whatever dangers there may be.

Iomedae go with you Rayne. We will come in on your mark and cleanse the Citadel of it's demonic filth. your friend Godwin Solace intones. Standing at six and half feet tall the Aasimar has obviously been touched by some sort of divine spark. He has become progerssively more angelic looking and less human as the group has gone through its trails. His eyes were always glowing pupils of pure white, but now his skin shimmers like gleaming metal as he draws his massive two handed falchion. On you mark we will come in and bring it back to the light!

I follow Rayne, Godwin, and Nuala through the portal, bringing up the rear. As a ranged person I'm fine with going at the rear of the party and keeping an eye on our backs.

"If anyone needs my particular skills in trapfinding (+14) or disable device (+21), just holler and I can come up front and check it out."

I also will try to get within point-blank (30') range at every opportunity so I might move a little closer on occasion.

At the start of its turn each round, it can select one of the following bonuses: +10 feet to base land speed, +1 dodge bonus to AC, +1 insight bonus on attack rolls, or a +1 luck bonus on saving throws. Each bonus selected lasts for 1 round.

As soon as Rayne disappears he does the same from Mama and Nuala.

OK, map link is up. While I could in theory go through and black out rooms. I don't see a great advantage in it. If you see the numbers you can specify where you want to go. If you find a way to metagame (no secret doors on this map) I'll just get mean.

Godwin will charge in to take out the demon to the right then if I'm understanding the map right.


They are Brimorak demons (CE outsider). You've fought them before. They toss fireballs, are immune to fire, and bleed fire when hit. Not much else of interest about them. You've only seen them toss fireballs once in a combat. Of course they never lasted all that long...

Assuming I come through the portal as a move action and we are getting ganked, I use my standard for a single attack against #1

Using +1 adaptive holy longbow vs. Evil target, ignore cover up to total concealment
longbow to hit: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
longbow damage: 1d8 + 7 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + (6, 6) = 24


The arrow strikes though the crack in the door eliciting a yelp of pain.

Demon 2 opens the door and moves into the room, which elicits a char (partial charge) from Rayne, who runs up and smacks him hard. Hot blood sprays back on Rayne doing 1d4 ⇒ 2 fire damage.

The demon tries to hit Rayne with its sword.

to hit: 1d20 ⇒ 16 damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 fire: 1d6 ⇒ 4 hit

The other demon comes out and casts a spell on Rayne.

need a will save DC 14. in retrospect, this looks futile
