Working on an idea
Sprite
So the little sprite trickster. I was thinking going Psychic (Self-Perfection).Mostly going psychic because no weird hand waving, and gives him a Wis to AC bonus without a spell level lost. He would be a CR 1/Psychic 2 so a class level behind till level 5.
A little Fey PC
who likes to play tricks on othersuses powers that have no hand-waving
Ooo, sounds like an interesting Idea
Hay!.. hold on... why that's just like..
Me!

Also, I'd appreciate if everyone came with some form of healing. Even if you couldn't use wand of CLW, someone will. That way, we at least share the cost of healing. We're starting at 3rd level so should be pretty basic adventuring gear.
Just a thought to throw out there.
Never a bad suggestion!

The Ten-Minute Background
In an attempt to get all the information I need to create stuff from character backgrounds without having to continually push for information, I am asking that you create backgrounds the following way:
Step 1: write five things about your character’s concept and background, five things that you think are the most essential parts of your character. You don’t have to stop at five, if you like…this is just a minimum.
1. Mike Alatar is a stripper. He hates his job, but it pays his bills.
2. Mike is very light hearted, and takes very few things seriously.
3. Mike loves the various costumes and disguises that come from his job.
4. His adventuring career began when he was mistaken for an adventurer while in his “hot knight” costume. The guard called on his aid.
5. Mike uses his fascinating magic striptease to captivate his enemies so others can do the hard work.
Step 2: List two goals for the character that you, as a player, think would be cool to see accomplished in-game. During any session in which you take positive action to achieve that goal, I will award you an action point that can only be used in scenes furthering that goal. These Action Points are separate from the action points you gain by resting and reaching milestones. You can change goals later, though you lose all the accumulated Action Points for the goal you abandoned.
1. Mike would love to earn enough money to finally quit the soul sucking job he is stuck in.
Mike is very free-spirited and has very few plans for the future. It’s hard to choose a second goal for him. His goals are very short sighted and easily accomplished.
Step 3: List two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect some surprises!
1. Mike is actually a virgin. He puts on a strong bravado, but the hordes of overenthusiastic customers have terrified him of what the act is like.
2. Mikes boss (Robbert Kratz) has been robbing him for years (75% of his pay). Mike has no idea.
Step 4: Describe three people that are tied to the character though blood, romance or honor. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. All can do something useful for you, if you can get the situations to line up. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1. Robert Kratz is a middle aged business man who owns a small (and unsuccessful) seedy tavern in town. He also manages a handful of male and female strippers for hire. The man is successful in his management business and uses his position to steal from his employees without their knowledge and garner favors from and blackmail his customers. He has such a friendly personality like a father figure, almost no one suspects the dirty underhanded tactics he employs.
2. Jessica Schultz is one of only two friends that knows about Mike’s job. She has been his best friend since they were children as they both grew up in the same neighborhood. She is training to be a wizard. She is various studious and serious. The very opposite of Mike. They make perfect opposites and balance one another out very well.
3. James Cook is an older stripper that taught Mike several tricks of the trade when he first started. James retired not long after Mike started as he was nearing his mid 30’s and getting too old for the business. While he’s never admitted it, Mike suspect James may have done some side deals under the table behind Robert’s back as James seemed to have more money than he ever earned in tips.
Step 5: Describe three memories that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
1. Mike remembers his first day as an adventurer well. He was on his way to a local tavern where a bachelorette party had rented out the back room for him to dance. As he neared the tavern he saw a large crowd gathered and the city guard holding a perimeter. Mike learned from the crowd that a couple bandits were holding the tavern patrons hostage in a botched escape attempt after robbing the magic item shop. A guard spotted Mike in his “hot adventurer” costume and pulled him past the barrier. After offering a huge sum of coin for his aid Mike got an idea. He snuck into the tavern under the guise of bringing food and drink for the hostages. Once inside he started his tease, dancing for the hostages and bandits alike. Captivated by the magic of his swaying body, the bandits were so captivated they didn’t notice the town guard come in the back door and surround them. By the time Mike’s first set was done the bandits were in custody and his tip jar was nearly full.

Mike leans against the wall in the town hall only half listening. Cattle missing? I guess this is why business has been so slow recently. Feeling to his pocket and the couple of coins that remain. Suddenly a guard near the door recognizes him.
"Oi, you there. You're that guy who helped save those hostages last week right?"
Not really, Mike thought to himself. That was all just a big misunderstanding...Then again, I did make quite a bit of coin in rewards afterward. Maybe I should join up with those other idiots volunteering. How hard can it be right?"
"Yes sir! I can help out!"
The mayor calls out, "Excellent, another volunteer to hunt the monsters."
Mike goes pale at the word, Monsters? What have I gotten myself in to now.

Sorry GM, just wanted to see the list in Stages of completion

GM_Panic |

Could I make a suggestion GM, as this is going to be a fun game.
And knowing how fast games on here can die and players can drop.
Why not let EVERYONE with a completed PC into the 1st few days of the game. [Game time] have us start in a small town a last ditched fight in a doomed keep, with us working out that bugging out would be the best thing to do. OR at a turniment making our merry way with cons and fun.
On a large ship becalmed at sea, with nothing to do.
The idea being we fight nothing for the 1st few days but have to deal with a location and each other. So that the GM input overhead would be low for you, as the number of players would be high etc.
A sandbox setting for comedy, to see who can RP the must fun things
A sit com for PCs if you will.
Now some players and PCs will just hit it off and be funny, bouncing off each other in silliness. You can never tell who or why till you test them, then when your happy the best get picked to move on to stage 2
A group going off to do silly things in silly places.
This way you can get a good feel of the comedy and also see which players are into it.
Its just my gut feeling, but I really thing that would get the light heated side of things going fast.

While part of me does like this idea. I would urge extreme caution to the DM.
There was a campaign not long ago on these boards that was to be a sci-fi free form PBP game. The DM had a family emergency very early on and told the PCs he would be gone a few weeks and to just enjoy Roleplayibg until he returned to start the game. All we had was the ship we would be on stationed at the dry dock it was built at.
The campaign went to hell fast. One character started loading an army of marines into the ship and running them through drills in a society with no formal military. Several characters were investigating sabotage across the ship that another character made up. The captain was killed or kidnapped or something. The point was, the campaign ran into 100 directions as true freedom in PBP without DM intervention turned into 100 GMs all playing GMPC's in their own shared universe. It was a mess and the GM never returned. I feel like it was due to the chaos that ensued while he was gone that the planned story was destroyed in the process.

@I'm Hiding In Your Closet: Go ahead and roll one up, recruitment closes on 4/11!
@Johnny Panic: No worries on changing the list. I appreciate the spirit of what you're intending to do, and while it's a good idea in it's own way, innevitably it still comes down to rejections (which I'm sure no GM really likes doing). I don't want people to start investing time into a character concept more than they already have to then have me come back in and essentially say, "I don't like you, goodbye!" Players dropping is absolutely a problem, but I'll be keeping a reserve list. Part of why I ask people for both the backstory and/or 10-minute-background is a chance to see how they think and their writing style and the RP sample gives me an idea of how they play the character. There's been back and forths via message when I have questions or when there's concerns. I'm getting a pretty good handle on the completed profiles and the ones that are only missing mechanics stuff. It ultimately just comes down to players dropping after I make final selections, and attrition just comes with the territory of internet anonymity and no way to hold people accountable. Thank you kindly for the suggestion all the same.
However, in the vein of JP's request, everyone is more than welcome to take this thread and make it in character whenever you post questions, requests, communication with each other, etc. I feel like I'm smart enough to infer the OOC bits even if it is delivered IC...at least MY character sheet seems to think so :)
If I missed any updates, please let me know!

![]() |

Important questions for a character concept I have:
1 - Will you allow this update of the 3.5 Truenamer class, with the mechanics fix mentioned here, and perhaps with a homebrewed "Punspeaker" Archetype I still need to make up?
2 - Will you permit me to play an Awakened Parrot (otherwise using your 20 Point-buy rules)?
Alternatively, another thought I had was the Tome of Secrets Warlock, with some alterations (mainly to improve some of the obviously-terrible abilities it suffers from in certain spots).

GM Adamungus |

@Nathaniel: Looks good on the character sheet. I'll scrutinize everyone who ends up selected closer, but with the quick once over everything looks good to me.
@I'm Hiding: I can't say I'm familiar with Utterances/Lexicon rules, and I'm at ECCC all weekend, so I won't really be able to reliably look it up. If you could elaborate a little more on what those things are that would be great. The rest of the Truenamer would probably okay, and I'm certainly intrigued by a custom Punspeaker if you can pull it off! Puns are always lame, but when done well the lameness is what makes them funny, and as I've always said, if it makes me laugh I'll probably allow it. I'm okay with an Awakened Parrot if it's not an excuse to game the system, but I assume you already know that considering the parenthetical statement. The warlock conversion looks fine to me, but you'll have to go into more detail on how you would change it before I approve it.

Wilbert Torichfoyu |

Stepping into the stereotypical fantasy tavern is a strapping young man with dark locks that cascade over his forehead into his eyes. He would look menacing weilding a guisarme except for the bandana across his face with a picture of a wide, toothy grin . His dark eyes scan the room before settling into a stool.
Wil motions to the ruff looking barkeep behind the counter.
"Mmmmph, mmmmph," he starts to say before realizing the bandana muffled his speech. Pulling it down around his neck, he smiles and contines, "I'll have a shot of your strongest stuff. It's been a rough day."

Evilena Poppet Sckhold |

Mind if I set the setting for a little fun and games RPing some sillyness, sorry may have got carried away, cuz I think I channeled Terry Pratchett and went all Disk world, any how.
[spoiler=In The Throaty Mermaid]
Location: The Throaty Mermaid
Time: Evening, about 8:30
Weather: Windy and wet for this time of year.
The Throaty Mermaid, A classic dock side tavern, in the more seedy part of Port town. Know for its cheap ale, experience imported spirits, the fact it lets orcs, Goblins and Tifelings in the place. As Old blind Tom likes to say about letting just about anyone in to the place. "Bleeding Coins as good as anyone's"
On the door a Butter and Miss Flowers, two male Minotaur bouncers, Butter is your typical 8' tall Minotaur with a very large Axe and evil look and drunks get thrown out on their butts. Where as Miss Flowers is also 8' tall with Axe and a dress. He, sorry she, will come over as ask you nicely to stop fighting or what ever and then thrown you out on their butts. It is an unwritten rule and a very good idea NOT to ask a cross dressing 8' tall Minotaur with a very large Axe, why he's are a cross dressing 8' tall Minotaur with a very large Axe., or once could find out just how big that axe really is.
The tavern, has a second floor, around the bar is a balcony from which doors can be seen. Stairs lead up to a very fat woman, half orc buy the looks of her, This is the realm of Big Betty, Old Blind Toms wife, and mistress of the working girls who hire her rooms. Its always a bit of pot look who you get in one of Big Bets rooms, as she is not every good with numbers and gets rooms mixed up. But one number she never forgets and that is the 10 gold it takes to get past her and to a room. What the lady in side charges you for what every you do in there is no ones business but your own. But its 10 gold to peek at the wares. Butty has a soft voice and a very big stick, its always a good idea to show her respect.
Down below there is a bard platform, behind a chicken wire fence. Many bottles have been know to be thrown at bards who did not please the clients. A nice warm fire and all around the lowlife on port town. Cut throats, Pirates, Sell swords, Spell throwers and even a group of real scum!, layers, sit at one table, all in suits, drinking white wine spritzers and talking the client billing.
In to this space walks a young man, Wilbert Torichfoyu who is spotted by a small doll like thing standing an a shelf above the bar. She looks down at the drinkers, sitting on stools below her, than back at him. She had been trying hard to get one if not more of the drinkers below under her Evil power. But most where to drunk or just broke out in peels of laughter when she informed they where now her thralls. But this one, this one, this could be it.
"Now there is someone who has the potential to be a good henchmen by the looks of him, humans always make good Henchmen, my book of Evil overlord ship says so. Short lived so they are Brave, hearty risk takers, in other words stupid. So now to make my evil plans and entrap him in my web of evil. MOwowowohahah-Aaaaaaaaaaaa."
She rubbed her tinny little hands together but her maniacal laugh got a little out of hand, she lost her balance, tipped over the Rail of the shelf and fell in to the Lady Orcs Drink just placed on the bar.
There was a splash and a wash or Ale across the bar as Evilena feel butt 1st into Oranna's large mug of ale. For a few moments Evilena set in the much, her legs sticking out and drenched in Ale. Pulling her self out the mug she stood on the bar ale falling once more around. Old blind Tom started mopping up around her. Evilena seeing the faces of the bar drinkers looking at her standing there dripping wet.
"What you lot looking, never seen a fey take a bath before!"
She started to ring out her sleeves, then stopped looking back round at the drinker. As Tom placed another Ale for Oranna on the bar.
"That ones going on your Tab, Evilena"
She nodded but was not paying heed, she was looking at the faces of the drinkers who could now see the 1' Fey in her black dress and raven wings. They had the look of kids who had just seen a puppy. It was coming she knew it was coming. She pointed a tinny finger at them and said in a hard voice.
"If ANY of you say the word Cute! ill scratch your bleeding eyes out."
Then she went back to drying herself off, standing on the bar. All 1' of her.
Ill spoiler other long posts like this in future, GM if you think its to much let me know and ill dial it back.

Patchy The Pirate |

Strolling through the front door, Patchy gives no thought to the two Minotaur's. Fancying himself an ale before spreading the joyous word of SpongeBob, he strolls up to the bar. As he reaches the bar he sees and hears Evilena's proclamation.
Patchy looks down at her and says.
Aye there is no need for threats miss, if anybody were to call you cute it would be a compliment. Tell me do you have a moment to discuss our lord and savior SpongeBob?

Oranna |

Oranna was going to reach out to grab her drink, but a tiny fey fell into her drink abruptly, "That was my drink," she says watching the fey dry herself off. When the bartender came back with a replacement drink, Oranna had already drank the old one that the fey fell in. She simply shrugged.
She pokes the little fey, "Tiny thing."

![]() |

A rather tall busty half-orc woman walks into the tavern dressed in a somewhat scantily clad set of bikini chain mail and furs. She heads to the bar where she takes a seat next to Wilbert, "Give Oranna big mug of ale. Don't water down."
She looks to Wilbert, "Human, you look good."
Wil beams as he hears a voice compliment him. He turns to the speaker and smiles.
"Howdy. There is nothing worse than watered down ale."
Takes a peek at Oranna's CHA.
"You ain't half bad looking either," he says with a wink. "How bout we get to know each other..."
Just then, he jumps back in surprise as something plopped into the half orc's ale. "What the what?" he exclaims, never having seen such a thing before.

Evilena Poppet Sckhold |

Jumps to one side as the big green finger comes her way.
She cast her once a day prestidigitation to fully dry and clean herself.
Happy now, she puts her hands on her tiny hips and says looking the massive green orc in the eye.
"Who you calling a thing, I'm not a thing, I'm Evilena, master of all she sees and evil overlord of the whole world, bow before me you big... big orc, green woman."
she seems a little lost as to how to best insult Oranna.
She relaxed and says in an apologetic way.
"Look I'm sorry this is a little embarrassing but I really don't want to use the wrong term for your race you know. I know how sensitive some can be about such thinks and quit frankly I agree. I mean the times I get called a Pixie, really as if I look anything like one. They have butterfly wings ok, look at mine, see raven wings. No the same at all, you would think they know. Anyhow sorry where was I, yes, what term would you like me to use in regard to your race. Then we can get back to the whole me threatening you thing, Thinks."
She waits but a human male starts to talk to her tormentor as well,
Well that's just typical, I just get into the swing of a good evil rant and i'm interrupted, when I rule the world, there want be any more interrupting, on no, hangings to good for em, burned live yes.
She seems happy at this thought, A tiny little doll like fey smiling to herself, how cu... nearly said it.

Evilena Poppet Sckhold |

She looks to the left and the right as if she is going to say something that is secret or bad to utter out in public.
then she takes her wing and pulls it round so that it overs the lower part of her face.
"I AM A SCKHOLD!"
she says with dramatic affect then looks at the faces looking at her.
Non show the slightest bit of fear or resignation of the name.
Her arms fall to her side an a look of utter deflation.
"Sckhold fey, you know from the deeper darker words,, mothers tell children about us, leading the foolish astray, hiding homework and a 1000 other diabolical evil things."
Still no recognition.
"No, really! O I give up"
she throws her arms up and in a huff gos to get a drink.

S'quig-aly |

S'quig-aly eagerly walks into the tavern, giving the fluffy bull human a passing compliment as she does. "YOUR DRESS IS PLEASING TO MY HUMAN EYES!"
She looks around, and is visibly excited as she walks up to the most colorful group, consisting of a tiny human, a green human like her friend, a regular human, and a beardy human with a small feathery human on his shoulder. Without hesitating, she walks up to them and butts in on their conversation. "HELLO POTENTIAL FRIENDS! YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THINGS. I ALSO ENJOY TALKING ABOUT THINGS. MAY I JOIN YOU?"

Evilena Poppet Sckhold |

She is just about to reply to Patchy and his stuffed pal, when S'quig-aly comes over.
Her eyes ho wide and with a jump she joins Polly on Patchy's shoulder.
Hiding behind the bag of feathers while the Patchy talks to S'quig-aly.
"Hells B@#$ h&~+, its a Chaos beast in a dress!"
Then realizing she was talking out aloud, she stood back out along the shoulder as if this sort of thing happens every day.
"Not that I have not see err worse of course."
now happy to look cool once more she cocks her head to hear what they say.

Patchy turns to find the source of the voice and is shocked when he sees a floating tentacle monster. Remembering his manners, Patchy tries not to stare at this creature.
Why of course, my name is Patchy and this is my best friend Polly. What is your name stranger?
Wil was basking in the compliments before they were rudely interrupted.
He hides his annoyance and turns to greet the new additions to the group with first a smile and a nod to Patchy and then a smile and a nod to !!!!
"What the what?!?!?!" he says for the second time in two seconds.
First a small thing with wings and now a floating tentacle monster?!?! This day is getting curiouser and curiouser.
Recomposing himself, Wil finally notices Polly. A look of concern spreads over his face as he studies the stuffed bird.
"I'm sorry to say your bird doesn't look too well," he says softly. "Trust me, I'm a veterinarian and your bird doesn't look like its alive."

S'quig-aly |

"HELLO FRIEND PATCHY, AND ALSO FRIEND POLLY! MY NAME IS-" S'quig-aly lets out a horrible string of gurgles, screeches, and clicks that goes on for seven seconds. "I PREFER TO BE CALLED 'S'QUIG-ALY', THOUGH."
Hearing something from Patchy's shoulder, S'quig-aly stares at Evilena. "HELLO TINY HUMAN! WHAT IS THIS CHAOS BEST YOU SPEAK OF? CLEARLY I AM AN ORDINARY HUMAN, WITH NO UNUSUAL QUALITIES."

Patchy The Pirate |

Patchy hearing Wilberts remark turns his head and chuckles to himself.
Why thank you for your concern matey, but I can assure you Polly is just fine. Why she has looked like this ever since our island adventure, haven't you Polly.
Patchy then waits as if expecting Polly to respond and nods his head contently.
See I told you, friend.

Dr. Fisty McKnuckles |

It's surprising that no one noticed the guy in the doctor's coat until he sits down at the table, causing the chairs around him to thump and the table to rattle slightly. He is a big man, at least eight feet tall and maybe four feet wide. You know he's a doctor because he has a doctor's coat on and a healer's kit on his waist. Also, his coat says "McKnuckles" on the left breast, under the name says the title "Doctor". It's spelled properly so it seems legit.
The man appears to have a broad, almost autistic face. He has thick black hair that's pulled back into a bristly ponytail. His gray eyes are surprisingly sharp. He smiles a mouth full of thick, strong, only a little off-white teeth, his lips look thin and drool- Oh god he's half-ogre!
"Hey, what's everyone drinking?" Dr. McKnuckles asks cheefully. "I just got in, had a patient run late."

Wilbert Torichfoyu |

Patchy hearing Wilberts remark turns his head and chuckles to himself.
Why thank you for your concern matey, but I can assure you Polly is just fine. Why she has looked like this ever since our island adventure, haven't you Polly.
Patchy then waits as if expecting Polly to respond and nods his head contently.
See I told you, friend.
Wil arches his right eyebrow as Patchy "talks" to Polly. He holds his hand up against his mouth and whispers to Oranna, "Did you hear anything? I think i might be losing my hearing."
Just then, poor Wil was startled as a ginormous monster crashed the party. "What the what?!?!?!?!" he exclaims for the third time in three seconds.
Turning to no one in particular (but the audience knows it's to the camera) he says , "What the heck is going on today? I think i might've huffed a little too much of something or other. I'm just going to ignore that little farie, weird tentacle thing, and the giant ugly thing. I'm obviously halucinating."
After one more brief glance at each non-humanoid, he reaches for his drink and slams it down.
