It is a move to draw a weapon even the crossbow...
Miyako is a haunted oracle; for them, retrieving anything is a standard action at best.

Nimos Yardan |

It was under her cloak so
Does the haunted curse affect how long it takes to draw a weapon?
No. The curse affects the "retrieve a stored item" action. If you are using the "draw a weapon" action (such as to draw a dagger from a belt sheath), that is a different kind of action and the haunted curse does not affect it.
If you were attempting to retrieve a dagger from your backpack, that would count as a "retrieve a stored item" action and the curse would interfere.

Does Warforged #1 have a gauntlet or something to count as being armed? If its taking a swing at me with just its fist: 1) I get an AoO since I am armed and he isn't, 2) I am immune to non-lethal, so he has to take another -4 penalty (not that it matters) to make it lethal damage.
Just asking because you didn't state what weapon it had when it attacked.

Okay, thanks! :)

Nimos Yardan |

If no one chases the dwarf I will change my round three to follow and attack him since I should have have double his move adding + 6 to my first attack roll since it won't be a called shot and the strength surge boosting it to 19 to hit. Dwarf 20, me 30 + 10 fast movement.

Nimos Yardan |

The first shot is going to be lethal but I will offer him to option to surrender. Just be glad I am not huge was doing 30's then and non lethal can still kill you with that kind of damage..

Kwin Longclaw |

Correct, and I have no idea how I got out of sync and jumped the gun like that. I blame holiday confusion.
I read through the action again and it looks like the dwarf's bailout actually occurred at the end of the second round. Would Kwin still have a clear ranged shot by the time his initiative rolled around? If so I'll keep the same action (which I presume is a miss). Otherwise I guess I should retcon it. So, your call.
Apologies for the glitch. I need to tighten up; I'm not making a very good showing as a player and soon I won't have the holidays as a convenient excuse!

"Dirty" Harry Calahan |

hey guys, sorry about not posting for the last few days. i was on vacation up north and the lone cell tower near my inlaws was destroyed by a snow storm, so i was without cell phone service (IE the internet for postings) until late last night when i got home.
ill read up on what ive missed and post shortly...

Kwin Longclaw |

There's still some confusion with the warforged. As far as I can see from the text, #1 was engaged with Kol and Merry and beaten up pretty badly; #2 only threw a chair at Nimos. Yet on the map you have #2 marked as out of commission.
At one point you said "the Minotaur... takes another swing with his greatsword, and slices warforged #1 straight in half." But it doesn't look like Nimos would've been in position for that; he's closer to #2.
So I'm wondering if that was a typo for #2. That would mean the map is correct, #2 is "cleaved in twain" and #1 is still up but with his "guts" spilling out. That's the assumption I'm going to go on for my retcon, anyway. It'll be up momentarily.
(Welcome back, Harry!)

Happy New Year! :D

Kwin Longclaw |

Just for the record, the stroll over to the humans was fluffy. GM, feel free to consider Kwin at his prior position for any melee-specific action if necessary.
(And thanks Miyako; Feliz Año Nuevo to you and all as well!)

Fluffy flavor! :D

K-01 'Kol' |

I aim to entertain, GM. ;)
Having a lot of fun playing as Kol. Never tried a comically serious character, but I'm liking the dynamic between me and Kwin.
That and our misadventures with the diceroller makes for interesting opportunities to play off of, even if not always to our advantage.

Kwin Longclaw |

And I gotta say it's wickedly cool when a PC just sort of "takes off" on his own in an unexpected direction. I never intended to play Kwin as an exuberantly carefree, overconfident Jack Harkness/Errol Flynn/Han Solo renegade. But between our noble GM priming the pump with a Jack Sparrow bar fight scene, and a Tony Stark type being the perfect foil for Kol's snarkasm (and dang it, I'm still hearing J.A.R.V.I.S. in my head every time I read your lines, metal man) -- it seems Kwin has decided to disregard my original vision.
Yeah, we might not be as effective a fighting team as we could be if we were more serious, but this is gonna be fun! :o)

Kwin Longclaw |

Power out, DMPC as needed.

Kwin Longclaw |

Thanks, Kol. I'm in central Virginia and escaped the snow; it was high winds that got us here. I was at work, the dog likes it chilly, and the house only got down to 53F anyway, so it's all good.

Kwin Longclaw |

Okay, not what I anticipated. I figured somebody called the Watch and what Kwin saw through the windows was the local cops gathering to burst in. I never expected it to be the SWAT Team firing tear gas!
GM, you described the place thusly:
It's a rather large inn, built for the large capacity needed for the festival, and includes its own built in bar and tavern.
From that I visualized the place something like a modern hotel: You walk in and there's a restaurant over here and a bar over there but the bulk of the building is devoted to guest rooms. I'd even decided it made sense that Kwin (and Kol) were staying there, and left Kwin's sword, backpack, etc. upstairs in his room.
I'm going to move forward on the assumption that's correct and that the door/hall/stairs/etc. to the guest rooms is off the tavern. If that's bogus please clue me in and I'll retcon.

Kwin Longclaw |

Exactly. The whole "act casual" thing assumed the Watch was about to burst through the door, and I wanted us to look like innocents caught up in the mess. I figured in the initial shutdown rush they might just shoo us out without digging too deeply. (I didn't expect it to actually work, but it was worth a shot.)
If we go running out the door, there's nothing to distinguish us from anyone else. And as soon as it gets down to questioning people, plenty of folks saw us fighting... and it might not matter that we didn't start it or were just coming to the aid of a server being abused by a customer.
If we can get to our room, Kwin has his sword and backpack again. If the gas is heavier than air we don't have to sweat that. If we can avoid being seen by other patrons during questioning we might be able to pass for "weren't downstairs at the time." Depending on the layout we may be able to climb out a window and leave all this behind us.
It just seems to open up a lot more options than running out the front door.

Kwin Longclaw |

Good thinking, Miyako!
And maybe this is one of those rare cases where splitting the group is a good idea. The more different ways we scatter or try to escape, the better the chances that at least one of us will make it.
And then, he said hopefully, initiate actions to rescue the others...

![]() |

Thank you!
If a soldier finds me I'll just cry and act confused. For a bar brawl sure is a scary thing for a little girl, haha!

Kwin Longclaw |

Yeah, you're fortunate: You have the "cute innocent" thing going for you!
As for the "little" part... you did notice you and Kwin are exactly the same height, yes? There were persistent rumors around the clan that his mom had a tryst with a gnome (which would explain both his short stature and his affinity for gadgets/mechanical aptitude)...

![]() |

Ha, I thought Kwin to be a few inches taller. Well, most likely 'little' will still hold true versus the soldiers.

Kwin Longclaw |

Nice bit of BS'ing there Kwin.
Thanks, buddy. I don't intend Kwin to be a rapscallion but it sure seems he wants to gravitate that way. (Notice how everything he said isn't technically a lie? Heh.)
With that mediocre Bluff roll it was only by the grace of the dice gods we managed to get out of there, though.

![]() |

When I saw your Bluff roll I doubted you and Kol would get out without a fight, but those guards... wow...
Now let's see how much luck the others have.

Kwin Longclaw |

I guess minimum-wage mooks aren't paid to think.
If it'd come to it I don't think there would've been a fight unless they provoked. A bar brawl is one thing, but I presume these guys are operating in some official capacity. Kwin's not the type to take on the local constabulary for no good reason -- he'd go quietly with the intent of pleading his case to calmer minds.

Kwin Longclaw |

Guess you'll just have wait for this to blow over before you can pick up the rest of your stuff up, Kwin...
Appears so. Let's hope we won't face anything calling for a crossbow or another sword (you have yours) before then. At least I have my dagger, "walking stick" and money with me.
Plus I can whip something up if needs be. Tinkers are handy like that. :o)

@GM: I assumed the 12 Acrobatics roll was enough for a simple jump through a window, but I'm not too sure if it covers the landing roll after the jump. I'd suggest some glass shards from the smashed window in the legs as a compensation, may the Acrobatics roll not cover the landing roll. (Rollll...)
