Slaughtersea's Untitled Campaign (Inactive)

Game Master Slaughtersea

Hey everyone,

While my two campaigns continue, I wanted to try something new again, but without the time to actually start a whole other campaign, I sat down and thought about what else could be done on the paizo site.

Well, I think I can finally propose something that I don't believe has been done quite before. I know there is the Woodbridge Campaign going on, but that is simply designing a setting.

Instead, I want to make a unique experience where design and game play will go hand in hand.

What I propose is the following:

A selected team of recruits will design an adventure, encounter by encounter. Each member will take turns posting the next step of the adventure, essentially connecting it to the previous one and to the story line as a whole.

*************************************************

ADVENTURE DESIGN SYNOPSIS

- Design a premise for the adventure. This includes overall story, length, content, etc.

- Design any necessary material needed as well as setting/location required.

- Set up design order.

- Each designer creates one encounter, then passes to the next designer.

During this phase, other designers comment and critique encounters.

- When all determined encounters are created, the designers put them together, correct errors and add any missing components. Then, we give the adventure to a GM willing to play test it and see how it goes.

- Then... we continue? With a new adventure? A sequel? Who knows.

***************************************************

WANT TO JOIN?

- Simply apply in this thread, show a few ideas, let us know what your playing experience is etc.

- Make a single encounter/room to fit with the following text:

The encounter takes place in an ancient ruin. The players have already gotten past a few rooms and defeated skeletal tribal-warriors, a zombie juju witch and a stone tiger construct. They have found a few ancient treasures and after getting past a deadly waterfall/javelin spear trap, they open a stone door and...

This can be for any level you want and doesn't need to be very long.

Final voting to choose members will be done by all participants on Friday the 15th of March. Each person who has posted in recruitment will have a certain number of votes (depending on the total number of candidates) and the top 5-6 candidates will be chosen. If the number of candidates is lower or around that number, we'll proceed directly to creating the adventure.
****************************************************

Very interesting, and thanks for the plug (though a link would have been, well, generous to say the least). I'm going to read over the parameters, again, and think very hard about joining in this endeavor.

Thanks

My word, where are my manners! For those of you who haven't had the time to look into it, here's the link to the fabulous game that's going on over in Woodbridge. With both rich storytelling, campaign creation at work and great players, you definitely need to keep an eye on that thread!

-Crocodiles Lair EL 5; An encounter intended for a party of 4th to 5th level -

Draft:
… They find themselves in an earthen chamber. Scattered vines are spread out along the walls and ceiling of this dimly lit room and a lone lantern rests on the wall near the entrance. The floor of this room quickly descends into a man-made pond, tall grass and other plant life reach out above the surface and several stones line up to create a path through the makeshift marshland. In order to progress into the next area PCs must make their way across the room, either taking the stepping stones or swimming across, then climb up the vines 20ft where a ledge awaits them with a rope-ladder that can be lowered down and a door leading into the next area. PCs traveling through this room soon realize that they are not alone. 3 hungry Crocodiles await them trained first to attack anyone with a light source. In addition a perception check is required to notice the false stone along the path. Any creature stepping onto this stone falls into the water a Reflex save allows them to make it to the next stone along the path unharmed. Any creature completely submerged into the water takes a -2 armor check penalty as their cloths retain water they also treat any steeping stones as slippery terrain; this penalty does not stack with an existing armor check penalty use the greater value of any that apply. This penalty lasts until the creature has an opportunity to dry itself.

The room is 60ft across and 30ft high from water level, the aquatic habitat is 30ft deep. Any creature traveling faster than half-speed across the stones must make an acrobatics check of fall into the water. This is a DC 5 check, or DC 10 acrobatics check if creature has fallen once already. The room is shrouded in darkness save for the lone lantern and any light source the PCs bring with them. Perception Check for the false stone is DC 15; and the vines have a Climb DC 15. If a crocodile is reduced to 1 quarter hit points or less it retreats using an underwater passage (several hundred feet) leading to the surface outside the dungeon.

Encounter: 3 Crocodiles; Cr 2 each. See Bestiary.

Looks great! Love how the encounter uses a large variety of different options and it stays very close to the theme. The fact that the crocodiles are trained to attack creatures that carry light sources is brilliant in an undead filled ruin.

Well so far, we got two people on this. Let's see if anyone else wants in.

Interesting idea~! I'll apply, even though I don't have much gaming experience.

Pushing open the door, the party finds a small cha, ber. Across from the room, just 10 ft. away from the entrance is a stone door enscribed with ancient text, with a large keyhole in the center, it's flanked by two stone pedestals. On the left pedestal is a stone tiger statue with its mouth open, identical to the construct fought earlier. The right pedestal is empty, and is surrounded by spatterings of blood, undoubtedly where the first tiger came from. Upon entering the chamber, a voice will emanate from the mouth of thr toger statue, "Welcome Warriors! You have certainly proved your skills by getting this far. But now I will test your resolve! Place your hand in my mouth, and the door will open for you."

Spoiler:
The Tiger is lying, but will say nothing more. In order to move beyond its pedestal, the construct requires blood, and will bite down on the hand of whoever is stupid enough to put their hand inside its mouth. After which it will step down from its pedestal, causing a pressure plate to rise and the door to open, and will attack the players.

It's impossible to pick the door, any attempt will result in failure. The lock appears different from any sort of normal lock. But in reality, the lock is a fake, with no real tumblers or anything to pick.

Pushing the door will not open it, unlike the last door.

A successful Linguistics check on the door text reveals that it says, "Pull". Pulling on the door will open it.

A successful Sense Motive check causes the party to feel that this might be a trap.

A succesful Strength check allows a character to remove the tiger from the pedestal, thus opening the door.

A successful Perception check reveals that are scuff marks around the door, closer inspection reveals that these scuff marks indicate that the door pulls open.

Inspecting the statue reveals that its jaw moves and that it is not attached to the pedestal.

Another great encounter, I love the reference to the previous construct as well as the simple yet potentially dangerous trap. Great work there!

Liberty's Edge

A curious idea, if I may say so. I've been trying, slowly, and futilely, to design a campaign world around some core concepts and major characters that I've created over the years, and I constantly find myself lost on what step to take next. Perhaps a different kind of exercise will give me some input and insight on worldbuilding. I'll see if I can come up with something.

This really is a mixture of collaborative world and adventure design as well as a chance to express and explore ideas we've had or want to try out.

Yeah, you better not forget! Or you shall feel the wrath of the ten headed dragon king... whoever he is.

Actually, if all the posters who haven't applied yet apply, we'll have our group done and made.

i guess, wth... I'll see if i can come up with something at work tonite. and be careful, I may just come up with a 10headed dragon king...

Perfect! That sounds like a great idea!

Find themselves in a square temple like room some fifty feet square with three ten foot square ten foot tall platform in the center of the room. Upon each platform is a hideous red stone totem depicting the faces of leering and enraged gods, all of the totems eyes are directed to the far end of the room where a withered corpse hangs suspended by dozens of ropes with a macabre animal skull fetish hanging about its neck. Beneath the corpse is a staircase leading down into darkness. As the party advances its head jerks up, it stares down at the group and rasps,

"Thrice I am bound to your despair,
servant of the heavens once fair,
enslaven slaver who calls, now foul,
servants of light to lament and howl."

Then three muscular figures with the heads of proud hounds appear, each standing before a totem, as one they carry beautiful greatswords and their slumped defeated postures betray their shame.

"Forgive us mortals we are bound by these dark magics, I pray you can defeat us for we are tired of being shackled slaughterers."

Quick Background:
Seven years ago the Summoner Martrim Brant a devout servant of Abadar concerned with learning the secrets of ancient civilizations came to this place alone. Thinking to use his normal summoned celestials to destroy the evil of the place. But while his mighty hound Archons were engaged the zombie witch was able to sneak up behind him and paralyze him with a spell before knocking him unconscious. Keeping him unconscious with her magics and potions she eventually crafted a foul fetish that would harness his summoning powers even in death and enslaved and his loyal summons.

Crunch:

The Hound Archons make up a CR 7 encounter, and the podiums serve to break up the battle space a little. Treasure comes from the summoner's corpse where his Circlet of Persuasion and Boots of Springing and Striding remain intact. Once the Archons are dispatched he can be cut down easily enough and is easily destroyed.

Great chamber, even greater that it has backstory all to itself, something that's great to add into adventures! Absolutely love it!

isnt the best, but...

Here we go...

Wow, what a presentation!

Map, Stats and all the goodies!

My only gripe is that the goblins aren't mentioned at all until their combat tactics. Where were they?

Aside from this, love the room!

sorry, the goblins were hiding XD tired/headache/about to go to work XD
actually realized shortly ago, the aura wasn't what i meant to do at first (a concentration breaking aura that is stronger closer to center point, but may have to remember later.)

and goblin can be replaced with random mook, etc...

Perfect! Well, voting will be tomorrow so if anyone wants to join in, feel free to do so!

Bringing it back up one final time before tomorrow's vote. Actually, with what we have, everyone who posted so far is in. But there seems to be a lack of concrete interest so I shall see with everyone tomorrow if they still want in or not.

I'm definitely still interested~

/\ Me to :)

*poka DM?*

I guess that means the vote is unanimous?

Voting is unanimous as we have enough people who made an encounter to join in. So I'll set everything up today and we can get to designing this thing!

Accepted GMs

Little Green DM
CCCXLII
DM Carpe
IejirIsk

So, we can now all head over to the Gameplay tab that I will create and get to work!
