Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon grunts, and drags the "prisoner" back to the lobby and over to the stairs, avoiding eye contact with any of the undead he passes.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Upstairs you find a small office area which appears to have been converted into a brig of some sort. Iron bars reinforce wooden walls, and cover the windows of the doors. You can hear the faint moans and whimpers of people inside. On the far side of the room, you see a windowless door with heavy chain locking it closed.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Regaining his bearings, Victor makes another attempt at bursting the door open.

Strength check:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Victor:
The wood splinters a bit under your blow, but the latch seems to be fastened tight.

The locked door on the other side of the room shudders under a fierce blow, along with the sound of splintering wood and a pained grunt.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon, hearing the blow, quickly looks around the room and, if he doesn't see any undead around, moves to the door to investigate the bumping.

If he does see any undead, he temporarily ignores the noise and moves to him, whispering to Rekkstuff along the way, "If I give the signal, we take this guy out." He then presents his "prisoner" and says, "Got another to toss in. Open 'er up."

Bluff should be rolled by you, if necessary.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

There are no undead in this area.

As you investigate the door that just bumped, you hear the faint mutterings of Victor on the other side, cursing at the door and grunting in pain.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon, hearing Victor, knocks on the door, in the first half of a catchy rhythm, waiting to hear the second bit from the other side.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

After a moment's hesitation, Victor finishes the rhythm with a returning knock.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon slowly opens the door, peering into the room beyond and hoping he sees who he thinks he will.

Upon spying Victor, Jordon says in an excited whisper (which doesn't match his undead disguise in the least), "Ah, glad to see you made it, my man! We've seen a bit of the place; I think our prisoner is being held in these cells, rather than the forge area beyond."

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

There was a lock on the door, but I guess we can assume that Roger uses Shatter, since none of you have Disable Device.

As soon as Jordon finishes speaking, an alarm sounds, and you hear something shifting up in the ceiling. As you look up, a swarm of tiny black crawling hands pours on top of Jordon and begins pulling and scratching at him.

Initiative:
Jordon: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Victor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Rekkstuff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Roger: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Crawling Hands: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Wasn't Rekkstuff with us? He has DD. I'll use shatter if I have to, but I'd rather not if I can help it.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon panics at the swarm of freakish, clawing, disembodied hands, letting out a high and girly shriek as he tries to bat them off of himself and move away.

Move action to move out of swarm and away from the rest of the group, and if Jordon took any damage in the surprise round, cast a CLW on self. If not close the door (as part of a move?) then use Summon Instrument to create a large piano to block the entryway.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Jordon take 2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 damage in the surprise round.

That's right, I forgot about Rekkstuff. We can let him take 20 on his DD check instead. You're up first, Roger.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Roger will wait for Jordon to get out of the way, in order to not catch him in the cone he's about to unleash. You might want to move, y'know.

Ready an action to cast Chord of Shards

Chord of Shards damage, Reflex DC 15: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7

Man, my chords of shards have been pretty bad. This is the first time, I think, that I've reached average damage on one.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

I forgot about distraction for being damaged by the swarm. Lemme make the Fort Save for that:

Fort save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

If that's successful, and provided I'm not staggered by my turn, I go ahead with the healing plan, but bump it to a CMW because I'm gonna be hurting:

Heal amount on the CMW: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

The magical shards cut numerous swaths from the swarm of tiny hands, but they continue to crawl all over Jordon.

Swarm Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9

However Jordon maintains his composure and pulls himself out of the writhing mass of undead appendages, and heals himself.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

That puts me at 13.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor sees the door open and discovers a couple of zombies freaking out about a bunch of zombie hands. Fortunately, he knows these zombies. But what to do?

*gulp*

Victor casts grease on the enswarmed Jordon, then says "Sorry buddy, but hey, maybe they'll die before you do."

Intending to cast spark to ignite the grease and burn out the swarm. We're all probably capable of doing some healing and swarms take extra damage from fire I think, so Jordon should be able to out-last the swarm. If I misunderstood things up to this point and the swarm is only adjacent to Jordon (instead of covering him), then the grease is on the swarm directly.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

At the point you are acting, Jordan is not in the swarm, so no worries about lighting me up. However, they will likely move on their turn to a party member, so you might light someone else up, or be overrun yourself.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Rekkstuff flies into a rage and swings his axe at the swarm of hands, only destroying a few of them as his blade slices their fingers off.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Roger's up again. Victor, do you still want to cast the grease on Jordon, or on the swarm?

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Roger barks another fierce word, sending another chord of shards hurtling towards the swarm.

Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11

:O Good damage!

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

The hands are heavily thinned out by Roger's blast of magic.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

OK, the grease is going on the swarm, and not Jordon. Jordon, you're up.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon moves to the door, closing it and summoning a piano in front of it in an attempt to bar any guards who heard the alarm.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Whoops, I totally forgot to take the hands' turn! This happens before your turn, Jordon.

The swarm of hands turns toward Roger and begins crawling all over him, leaving greasy fingerprints.

Swarm damage:2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

"DIE FREAKY FREAKS!"

Victor casts spark, igniting the grease coating the swarm.

Keeping my action for now. I'll move to aid Roger in my next turn.

Rekkstuff charges Roger and attempts to knock him out of the flaming swarm of undead hands.

Bull Rush: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Roger goes flying 10 feet back, his greasy clothes still burning, and hands falling off of him from the shock of the impact.

Roger's turn, and he takes 1d6 ⇒ 6 from being on fire.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

15/31hp

Roger, on his turn, will try to put out the flames.

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Roger successfully puts out the flames, but the burning swarm starts lurching toward Rekkstuff.

Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Swarm Damage to Rekkstuff: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

On his go, Jordon fiddles with a bead on his necklace, then, deciding against it, instead moves toward Roger, healing him with a CLW. Not much else for me this fight.

Heal amount: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Thanks, Jordon.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor tries to pull Rekkstuff away from the burning mass of hands.

Drag maneuver:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
If successful, I move with him, getting us both as far from the swarm as possible.

Rekkstuff beats furiously at his flaming clothes.

1d6 ⇒ 2 burn damage. Full round action to beat out the flames. Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Swarm burn damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

The still-smoldering swarm crawls toward Victor and envelops him.

Swarm damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Jordon, you're up.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon moves to Victor, drawing his wand from his side as he goes (technically, I believe this maneuver is only normally kosher with a weapon used for an attack, so correct me if you aren't allowing this) and casts CLW from the wand on Victor, staying out of the hands. If not allowed, I'll just cast a CLW myself.

Using Enhance Healing to make it 1d8+4.

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor shrieks like a little girl as he draws his sword and tries to scrape the remaining hands off of himself.

To hit:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Damage:1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Victor flails uselessly at the swarm as he screams.

Rekkstuff attacks the swarm again with his axe.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Despite the reduced effectiveness of his slashes, Rekkstuff deals enough damage to the swarm to cause it to disperse. Now that everyone has stopped screaming, you can all hear the pounding of fists against the piano-blocked door.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon quickly loks around the room, taking stock of what it contains.

Which room are we currently in again?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

You're in the room with all the holding cells. The door to the armory where you found Victor is still open.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon scans over all the cells, then, dropping the disguise, he shouts to the prisoners, "Do any of you know a woman named Elendra?" He doesn't like where this is going; the group can't just take the one guy and leave, but they've no way of getting everyone out. Bothersome indeed.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

"It's time to fight, people! End the tyranny of... er... the Boss!"

Victor strides over to the armory door and opens it, gesturing to the racks of weapons inside.

"It's time to arm yourselves!"

Meanwhile, Victor is thinking to himself, "...as long as we can get all those cells open fast..."

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

You hear only moans from the cells in reply to your pleas.

Jordon:

Heal check:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
You realize that they are all in various stages of transformation to undeath.

The wood of the door above the piano begins to splinter as heavy blows rain down on it from the other side, accompanied by shouts.

Male Human (Varisian) Songhealer Bard 4

Jordon, hoping to stall them when the door is busted down, moves to the magically summoned piano and takes out his flask of fine wine. Tearing out the cork, he gives it one quick gulp, a kiss goodbye, then pours it onto the piano. Well, I guess I won't be summoning this particular piano in the future, Jordon thinks to himself. Meanwhile he says to the others, "Get the cells open however you can! When they bust through the door, someone set the piano on fire!" He then moves to the armory to retrieve a dagger or short sword, and work on breaking the locks with it.

Male human Soundstriker Bard 4

Got it.

Roger begins singing, trying to match the resonant frequency of the locks with his voice.

Activate Wordstrike, dealing 1d4+4 damage/ standard action and round of performance expended.

Damage, Round 1: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Damage, Round 2: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Damage, Round 3: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

16/20 Rounds of Performance remaining, may use more rounds, time allowing.

Male Half-elf Unarmed Fighter 1/Bard 4

Victor prepares to ignite the piano, in an uncharacteristically non-figurative way.

Readied action to cast spark on the doused piano if the bad guys get through the door.
