Yes, the fifteen minute adventuring day can become 5 minutes with a psion ... and then they have nothing. Zip. Squat. Nada. You can knock them over with a feather. What I've discovered is that after you hit them when they are out of power points, they learn to be economic with them.
There is a comparison here that puts psionics and magic in perspective.

Sure, FW. It is my intention that there be an equivalent "ability point buy" floor. After the last time we reworked the PCs I figured we were set and tossed my worksheet. ~ stupid , stupid, stupid ~ So I am not 100% sure where the floor is right now. Most of the PCs were boosted slightly to approach Inigo's deity-like stats. Alternatively, you can start statting up Jerrid and we'll add a point or two later.
What I really want to do with you and dabbler is talk background and work out the story part of integrating your PCs.

Thanks, that helps when wealth is going to be at a premium. As for background just to get the ball rolling, I figured it would be something to do with Jerrid's healing of the local gangs.
How we get to meet the party could be involving their taking down of Lamm, since he was responsible for hurting someone close to Jerrid.... Jerrid would want to meet and thank them. Definitely.
I doubt Dabbler's PC will know much more than the rest about my PC and his abilities so this can be a general discussion if you want.
Oh and Neil, I just read the Inquisitor class and it is my favourite by a mile. Thom Nombir's Player will be in like Flynn to play one of those. Brett could have been part of the Spanish Inquisition in another life.
Dabbler
I'm around now - I reasoned that my character is known to Heather, and with his background may have been drafted in as an 'officer of the law' in the emergency. It's also possible that Jerrid and Emerion may be known to one another via connections in Old Town.
Jerrid Kinslarn
My son is about to wake up so I'll have to leave this chat soon, but I drafted something up in the next few days. What does Emerion do for a living?
DM

Emerion is a younger son of a noble house - and a pure-blood Varisian. As such he sometimes instructs in a fencing academy, sometimes slums it in Old Town (from which he is only a few years removed) and sometimes is a 'gentleman of leisure'. He regularly has time for the low-born, his family only recently having climbed the ladder, and he gets up to any number of escapades that are not strictly legal.
Feel free to check out his history on the character page ...

Oh and Neil, I just read the Inquisitor class and it is my favourite by a mile.
If you wanted a more "active" healer with a cleric/rogue feel as Dabbler suggested earlier, you could certainly pull that off with an Inquisitor. He gets a lot of the roguish skills and has several levels of spells, many of which can draw on healing magic.
therealthom
Where do you guys get the time? I haven't looked at any of the PHB2 classes.
Dabbler, I found the duellist PrC. I haven't looked at it yet, but at least I found it.
Wicht, I thought of a dodge for keeping Jeorik in town just long enough to hook him for the next installment.
Based solely on dabbler's description above. Inquisitor sounds interesting. Someday I'll peek at it.

My previous experience was instructing Ninjitsu at beginners level.
Well, that should help.

Last night I wrote out a background for Jerrid, its three pages long and pretty generic but I'll work on that in tandem with the game thread.
Have you got the Complete Adventurer? My guy is a squire trying to become a knight in the Order of Illumination. Its all written into the Prestige Class - Shadowbane Stalker. I'll adapt the more extreme zealous behaviour to fit the party. Since the class can be a bit of a nutter which may not help. But as it stands I think the PC will fit in with the others and Korvosa.
therealthom
FW : Sorry, I don't have anything other than core. Which at this time means a pdf of PFRPG and my old 3.0 Monster Manual. OK 3.0's Tome and Blood and the cleric equivalent.
Doesn't mean I won't allow other things. (Dabbler talked me into psionics in my other game) Just means I try to look at them very hard and compare them to core and look for balance in my own opinion. Which means you've got to spoonfeed me the info. Also means I may nerf your favorite thing about the class. So it's best done early rather than qualifying your PC for a class then having me say, "that class or feature? No way!" And I usually reserve the right to alter things after an in-game playtest.
therealthom
FW, don't feel you've got to read the whole game thread. In fact I'd advise against it, you might decide the DM is too much of a pain and quit. My question is more global. Are you familiar with the state of the city and the events leading up to the end of Edge of Anarchy?
Dabbler the question is for you too.
Dabbler
My current understanding is that the King has snuffed it, and his queen is not popular in the city, a feeling she reciprocates - doesn't really like the city at all, thinks it's small and provincial, married the King just to get the title. Since he died there has been unrest and rioting on the streets.
That, in a nutshell, is what I am aware of. I deliberately haven't read much of the thread before the point at which you invited me in simply because much of it my character would probably not be aware of.
French Wolf
|
Yes I have skimmed thru the first two or three AP parts so I have a vague idea where this is headed. But I'm not paying any attention to that.
Reading the thread is no great issue, but it will take a few goes. I'm making notes on the city and the underworld in particular to help build a picture of the city for my character. Whether or not they will be relevant who knows. However the way you portray the city is important to making Jerrid fit in.
I've done the first twelve pages last night so I'll keep at it, if that's alright with you. I did intend to do what Dabbler has done but I'd like Jerrid to know a bit more of the city and its inhabitants.
Cheers

This is classic. I love the way you had to piece together the body parts of Gaekhan.
"No. No cut me. That's all. Was saving good food." The otyugh's voice drops lower and lower. "Good food. Hungry. " It perks up. "Trade?"
You've got a head, torso with arm, now pelvis and legs.
Let me know on the level when you get a chance Thom, since it will have a major effect on the way I build my PC. I'm guessing the wealth level may go up to 3,000gp then too?
Cheers

We 'mericans are also blessed with "Dancing with the (B_list) Stars". There's been a lot of TV crossover lately. I blame Simon Cowle.
And what the heck. Let's level now and we won't have to worry about it later.
Less important, do we want to retire the current game thread and start fresh?

Will do.

Well, you only called it "the real thom's" thread, not "Edge of Anarchy"...so I don't see a need to retire the thread. After all, there might be something further back in the first several pages we need to reference, and, by keeping the thread around, it won't fall back in the archives. I'm kind of bummed that Istas' "solo" thread never got to be a part of the overall storyline. :-)

I built for 3rd but will do a bit of a re-think this evening. Working all day so I'll try to cover a few bases now.
1) Yes I was disappointed when I couldn't find Istas' solo adventure. From a pbp DM's POV I was really looking forward to seeing that.
2) Simon Cowell is the bane of my weekends around Christmas.
3) Please keep the thread going, it's not even 3000 posts long yet and full of good stuff.
4) The contacts may take a bit of time but I have taken ranks in Know (local) to reflect that my PC will probably have numerous contacts. Maybe around seven but mostly in the lower echelons of society, involved with healing or nefarious activities.
5) The game is 2 years old. Well done guys for sticking with it. I was disappointed to see Keliwyn drop out after reading about him for 50 odd pages. Its a strong party, very heroic, loved reading about the way you talked down Trinia before she ran the Shingles. Is the pseudodragon going to re-appear - my favourite familiar by a long neck?
6) Lastly Merry Christmas to you and your families.
Cheers

You can read it here, if you like.

We'll continue the thread. (It's title is a result of weak board-foo.)
I will defer the new PC wealth question until I look at the old PCs.
Istas Alone Neil, her solo adventure foreshadowed the derro in the Dead Warrens and a little more. I didn't plan on much more than that. Although I keep trying to think of ways to make Stannus relevent to the plot again. I liked writing that SOB.
FW:
Dude, if your build changes a lot because you're starting at 4th level instead of 3rd, you are working way too hard.
I can't take credit for the body part scavenger hunt. That was AP as written. A really nice wrinkle on the "assemble the broken artifact" trope.
Contact descriptions can be minimal. They are there to help me feed atmosphere or clues to the PCs and expand the bubble that the PCs live in.
Regarding the shingles -- I had been really looking forward to the chase. As written in 3.5 it was a athletic skills feast. Climb, jump, balance, perception, and I can't remember what else. WHen we finally got to it PFRPG had morphed it to 60% "acrobatics" and it suddenly looked boring. Also, had to reward the diplomacy.
Keliwyn was a great character. They have all very good. Jeorik, Istas , Heather, Inigo. They keep me psyched to continue. My last favorite bit is Heather resigning. Didn't see that coming.
and why Cowell at Christmas in particular?
EDIT: Ninja'd by Neil as a struggled to compose this.
DM Wellard
Hating Simon Cowell is a bit of a British Institution..and more so at Xmas when he usually fixes things so he can get the number one spot in the charts.
Heathers resignation took me a lot off soul searching...but in the end she can no longer justify serving an unjust system..especially after Sabina took Trinia.

I agree 100%. Sad but true. Truthfully I like to have a PC whose background matches the order of class build, I have a two week "break" while my wife takes over the little chap and also I enjoy learning what is in the Pathfinder Book, especially the skill section where the devil is in the detail. I've only got one other character with this kind of depth and it adds to the finished PC, hopefully one that fits with the rest of the party.
Thanks for the link to Istas Alone, I'll read that this week.
Cheers

Character Generation Rev A
PFRPG except
Abilities: best 3 of 4d6 (with a minimum equivalent point buy = 30)
HP: max at first, roll thereafter
Traits: 1
Skills: Bonus craft, profession, or knowledge skill point at first level.
Starting cash: Roll at first level, appropriate for level-1 thereafter with extra allowance by DM fiat
Just getting it all down in one place so I can flag it on "Crimson DM". Let me know if I've forgotten anything.
Dabbler
Okies, I have placed an extra character creation point (I calculated my original total to 29) to Charisma, giving me a starting charisma of 13, and I've added my +1 ability point from 4th level into Charisma.
I have made my primary weapon a +1 Mithral Rapier.
For Traits, I would like to take Framed (Family Honour) - but I understand this may be slightly redundant now!
Emerion's older brother Eugeni was accused of a murder after his weapon was stolen and placed at the scene. Emerion was able to discover the culprit, and obtain a testimony that cleared his brother, but he has not forgotten the slight and has been tracking down the culprit.

Well I thought mine would improve once the kids got the Xbox 360 powered up with their favourite games, but instead I now have to referee fights over who's turn it is ... still the girls go back to their mother on Wednesday, after which my only parental task will be to ensure my son eats and drinks when not playing with it ...
