alsoBoris' Curse of the Crimson Throne (Pathfinder)
The curse of the Crimson Throne takes hold of Korvosa! In the shadow of an ailing king, a new ruler gathers power, sending shock-waves through a populace already plagued by unrest and pushing the largest city in Varisia to the brink of disaster.
In the face of anarchy, a new band of heroes gather at the call of a mysterious patron. Strange magic and mysterious prophesies set them on the trail of a common foe -a path that draws them into the struggle to save the city from ruin. Amid the intrigues of kings and generals, heroes and thieves, it's up to these new heroes to decide whether the rule of a new monarch will usher in a new age of glory or a reign of chaos.
WELCOME TO KORVOSA
Curse of the Crimson Throne is set in the city of Korvosa, located in Varisia. This game will have the PCs working to help preserve the city of Korvosa and save it from ruin. Curse of the Crimson Throne will be beginning in the month of Calistril in the year 4708.
As this entire adventure path hinges on players rescuing Korvosa from various states of ruin, PCs must be from the city. Information about Korvosa can be found for free on the pathfinder wiki here and on pages 2-7 of the free 3.5 player's guide. As Curse of the Crimson Throne was created with the old DnD 3.5 system in mind, I will be updating this AP to Pathfinder, using appropriate classes, monsters, and other challenges, while attempting to keep as close to the original intent as possible.

THE PRIME DIRECTIVE
Players who make it into this campaign will be expected to post once every 24-hours during the weekdays, once every 48-hours on the weekends, and I will uphold that same posting activity. Some days there will be more posting than others, but this campaign will run at a semi-leisurely pace. If you do not post once withing 24 hours during combat, actions will be taken for you. I reserve the right to eject from the campaign anyone who has not posted in 72 hours without prior warning of absence.
I expect players to engross themselves in the role-playing element and contribute interestingly to the story.
Combat will be handled by a mass initiative roll in one of my posts, followed by announcing a round of combat and listing the order of combatants. Players are welcome to post out of order, but please keep in mind that your actions will take place in the order of initiative, not your posts. At the end of a round, I will post a "synopsis" that covers the actions and reactions of the entire round.
Please look for the coordinate-based combat maps in the first post of any combat encounter. I will ask everyone to please include the coordinate your character (and any followers/cohorts) in at the bottom of all in-combat posts:
LOCATION (Alikia): B12
LOCATION (Alikia's Familiar): B13
RECRUITMENT INFORMATION
Recruitment for Curse of the Crimson Throne will close on October 24th. I will be posting/alerting the selected on October 27th. The campaign will begin on October 31st.
I will be accepting 4-5 characters. I will primarily be looking for a Divine, Arcane, Warrior, and Skill Monkey. If you feel that your character does not fall into any of these categories, I will also have an "other" category, which I may choose from.

The only materials I will consider outside the Core Rulebook will be from Paizo. I will not be considering any third party material.

I would love to make a werecroc-kin witch, but I would settle for witch.
Would you be willing to accept the Inquisitor from the Advanced Player's Guide?
I would prefer if players stuck to the Core Rulebook and the Player's guide for character creation. I will however open up the Advanced Player's Guide for players to choose only classes from. I will not allow feats, gear, spells (Inquisitors and other casters will be allowed to choose spells that only come from the Core), or archetypes.
As I do not own blood of the moon, I am uncomfortable allowing anyone to take any material from it, as third party sites may have to drop an important word or sentence in order to skirt copy-right laws. Please stick to the Core Rulebook for races.

I notice you are using traits (they aren't in Core Rulebook). what about archetypes? Here is a sample of the fighter I wish to submit, let me know if that is acceptable.

An Aldori Swordlord would be an acceptable archetype choice. However Paizo has released an updated version of this archetype in Inner Sea Combat that I would require you to update this character to the standards.
As for the trait question, traits were mentioned in the player's guide, and they are a fun little add on to add some back-story. I did not want to limit player's to only the trait document. I am not allowing drawbacks from Ultimate Campaign, so the maximum traits any player can have is two.
I will not be allowing hero points.
If I were to make a druid, could I take any of their special domains?
What do you mean by special domains? Do you mean the domains Air, Animal, Earth, Fire, Plant, Water, or Weather? Or was there something else that you meant?

Thanks! The version I have up is the updated one. The Inner Sea Combat just gives some Feats and a school for the Aldori Swordlords. Also, forgot to ask about the drawback (so used to using it). Easily remedied, remove fates favored trait and pride drawback.
Black hair and dark brown eyes. A darker complexion as is common amongst Varisians. He scowls a lot and has a dark demeanor. Medium height and slender build.
Heston used to be a light hearted fellow, but the murder of his fiancee changed that. Now he is more silent and grim. Driven by the need to find the person who extinguished the light of his life, he hunts with a fatalistic zeal.
Heston is a native of Korvosa. Though he lacks any Chelaxian heritage, his family still has done well. His father had moved here from the city of Restov in Brevoy. A member of the famed Swordlords of Restov, he was able to parlay his skill into a successful business of teaching sword techniques to young nobles. It is here that Heston also gained his skill at arms. However, despite a natural aptitude, Heston was more interested in more sedate pursuits and starting a family with his fiancee, Saren. All that changed with her murder one dark night. Heston since has thrown himself into his training and continues to search for the killer. What life will hold for him after vengeance is beyond his care for now.
Heston resides with his parents in South Shore.

Personally I love having a monk around but for some reason, even though they are a core class, they just don't seem that popular.
Well they're the martial artist class and as such they don't fit a lot of environments, sure you can have a foreigner but that means the monk might be less invested and tied to the campaign, generally the best bet in such cases is to re flavor it.
I think the only paizo APs where the monk really makes sense is in the Reign of Winter (Crossing from the dragon empires trough north is a good way to tie a monk in.), Jade Regent - Sure it begins in Sandpoint, but we already know there are at least some immigrants there. Plus you're going to be crossing the world your investment should be on the NPCs. Then there is Wrath of Righteousness, after all the Worldwound is pretty much a danger for the whole world. Of course in Varisia as in some other places there are immigrants from the east so it's not impossible having a local monk, but some people can't stand it, like some people can't stand the gunslinger.

I am fine with monks, rogues, paladins, and everything in the core.
For animal companions, I would like to know which one you were thinking of, as there are quiet a few to choose from.
As far as fetchlings go, I would like to steer away from native outsiders as part of player races. I would be willing consider a more exotic non-outsider race.

And here's Dragoncat's submission: Cassiel Hawke.
I've put up the requisite information on his profile, and included a little introductory vignette as well, if you're interested.
Hello, I was looking at your character sheet, and I have two things to point out:
Mirror Armor is from Ultimate Combat. I am only allow Core Rulebook equipment, Nothing from outside sources, with the exception of kits from Ultimate Equipment. (This includes adventurers armory, ultimate equipment, ect.) As the campaign progresses I plan on unlocking more items from sources outside the core.
The Trait Bastard is a Kingmaker Campaign trait. Love Lost is a Curse of the Crimson Throne Campaign trait. You cannot have two traits from the same category.

LordLuke here:
Working on this character as my submission, have taken care of the 'crunch' with both a stat block and a sheet (my mind works better with a sheet). I hope I haven't made any glaring errors and will comb over it, but I appreciate a note if there are any really silly ones I've made.
Will be working up on an awesome background.

My first choice would be a Pilo, it is a giant porcupine-like alien animal from fires of creation. My second choice is a giant vulture.
As this adventure path will not take place near Numeria or any of the other planets in the Pathfinder Campaign setting. As such, I will not allow the Pilo. As for the giant vulture, I will allow it, but please keep in mind that a majority of this campaign take place in a very urban setting. Animal companions of sizes greater than medium will have issues, and most animals will likely not be welcomed into shops or homes.

I actually want to play a monk in this game, the story I have lined up for her isn't the traditional monk that I have in mind, but more of a bar waitress that just got used to dealing with rowdy customers.
Not sure if this kind of thing is flavored correctly for this game, but I'm going to try and look into it.

I have Velius here ready for consideration with his backstory and everything complete. I had a fair bit of fun writing the character, and if time allows I may include a short RP section as well.
Please let know if there anything to be changed, modified or if I've done something just plain wrong!
Thanks.

Still here, and still watching!
Glad to hear it. I'm still here as well. As I said in my initial post the thread won't close until October 24th, with my choices being posted on October 27th.
I look forward to seeing all the exciting back-stories and characters that everyone can come up with!

almostBoris wrote:Races: Any race from the Core Rulebook. Players wishing to use additional Paizo-created races must request approval. What about the alternate racial traits from the Advanced Race Guide for the core races?
Was there a particular racial trait that you were looking at? Also, which racial traits did you mean? Are the traits we talking about like a half-elf switching out adaptability for Ancestral Arms, or are you looking at race trait like elven reflexes?

alsoBoris |

What are you looking for in the divine roll?
I am mostly looking for a cleric, druid, Inquisitor, or Oracle. I would prefer a cleric or druid, but if no one creates a character to fill this role, I will adapt the AP around that. (Throwing more healing potions, offering free healing from a friendly NPC, ect.)
It is more important that you create a character that you want to play, than creating a character to file in a niche. If I don't like any divine characters submitted I may choose more warriors or other slots to fill in the party.

If you are willing to allow an ifirt immolator inquisitor, than I have a face that just needs a little bit of adaptation to be ready.
I would like to steer away from native outsiders as part of player races. I would be willing consider a more exotic non-outsider race.
As I have already stated, I do not wish to open up native outsiders in my game. It has unintended game-breaking advantages and I like everyone to be on the same playing field.
