Anytime you do more than one round of combat a day is a pacing win in my book.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

I agree. We really are doing well. I'm glad to see us getting back into the groove again.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

I mean, yeah, this pace is good... but my school holidays are almost over, and I don't know if I'll be able to post much when they end. =(

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

I'll try and keep us firmly on a 1ppd rate at this point.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

If this was a slightly sillier campaign, I'd totally wait at the ledge until half the crew was almost on top of us, then shout "Ladies an' gentlemen! ye shall always remember this as tha day ye almost caught Cap'n Aramis Steele!" then fall over the side and land on Bullet.

But this is a weeeeee bit more serious than that, so I won't. I'll just leave you all with that silly mental image :3

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

And that nearly broke me.

That being said...Aramis, how are you liking Peril & Plunder. I finished playing it on Thursday and really wish it had been out when we reached the second book of the campaign.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

GM, if you don't think it will be too silly for the tone of this campaign, I might still do it. ;-)

I'm enjoying running Plunder, though my group are a bit frustrated with it. The event at the end of book 2 seemed railroaded to them, they've never been clear on exactly how many pieces of the Maguffin they have, and they don't like having no magic item marts. But I've had fun running it.

Spoilers for Plunder & Peril:

Kelizar was a ton of fun, as was the haunt in the sunken ship - the party thought the dragon had actually come back to attack them. I also like the mechanics for building relationships among the crew; our half-orc barbarian (Francesca, aka Frog) is best buds with Doc Imogene, and our monk/cleric of Achaekek has several deals made with the crew regarding the distribution of the party's kitsune rogue's corpse upon her imminent demise. The quartermaster gets the pelt, the cook gets the meat, and the lookout gets the knucklebones to turn into dice.

We have the fight with the oceanid tomorrow!

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

The lack of magic items in general combined with the lack of an ability to purchase any was very painful. We started with lvl 4 wealth and then we never really got much beyond that (I had gotten Eyes and a Cloak of Resistance by the end) which made certain fights in part 3 a bit of an annoyance. Of course, by then, I could fly indefinitely, nuke from 480', and give my party haste...so I was a monster...

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

DIBS ON THE HAT!

-Posted with Wayfinder

Always so easy to level up it seems.

New spells are:
2nd minor image, invisibility (bls)
1st shield

Not much else changed.
*EDIT: The cloak of resistance would be nice if no one else wants it.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

I will go for the +1 battleaxe, if that's ok?

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

So, I now get musket training, allowing me to add my dex modifier to damage rolls with my musket. (Total of +9 if point-blank and deadly aim are in effect.) I also get a feat, which should really probably be rapid shot. The only problem is, if I want to make those multiple attacks, I'll need to use paper cartridges, not these fancy bullets of mystery, and I may never find out what they do... Which would be a shame :/

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

I'm thinking I may get Toughness as feat, instead of Power Attack, since I really want to make sure Diabolito is as tough as he is strong. If I'm understanding it right, then taking Toughness at this level should net me 5 extra HP? And then if I take the extra HP favored class bonus, then I'm at 6 extra HP before even figuring HP. I'm trying to remember how we've been doing those.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

Looking in hero lab, I've got sixes across the board. Since I doubt I'd roll that, looks like 1/2 + 1.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Cool! So I'm going for the extra skill point favored class bonus, so that'll get me 12 hit points this level?

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

It's roll and take the better: Half +1 or what you roll.

Aramis:
The bullet you fired...you never recovered it, yet it was in your pouch when you checked it.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

1d8 ⇒ 7

Schweet!

I'm gonna get the skill upgrades listed, but I'm also trying to figure out what all Diabolito could spend his gold on. Thinking I might save up for a few different options. Definitely looking forward to the point in time when Diabolito has more gold to spend. Wild armor will be very funny. A shark in Stoneplate? Or Wild formatted Rhino Hide?

I shall update tomorrow. I'm pondering what class to take. Right now Trench fighter is in the lead.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

hp: 1d10 ⇒ 4

*sigh* Taking half plus one again.

GM:

Yeah, I'd imagined that would happen. Basically, I want to know whether there are any other funky effects that have been visible at all - because if I take Rapid Shot, or hell, at next level, I'll need to be choosing between a single shot with a bullet or multiple shots with paper cartridges.

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Aramis:
Not from the first bullet, no. Though you should add +1 to the damage ;) There are other spots in the pack though...so you never know...

Working on leveling. This level is a tough decision for me.

Female Undine Watersinger Bard/5
Vital:
HP: 36/36 | AC: 18 T: 13 FF: 15 | Init +3 | CMD: 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +7 | Will +5 | Percep +9

I must have missed where we could roll and take the better.

HP for 5th: 1d8 ⇒ 7
4th: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Same either way.
3rd: 1d8 ⇒ 4 Half +1 for that level.
2nd: 1d8 ⇒ 7

With the +1 CON, that's 36 HP for being 5th Level - only slightly heartier than with just the half +1.

I know the feeling, Amos. I'm trying to decide between Spell Focus: Enchantment or Arcane Strike.

When doing skills, don't forget we added 2 Background Skills. :)

Decided on Freebooter Ranger. Update in progress

Female Undine Watersinger Bard/5
Vital:
HP: 36/36 | AC: 18 T: 13 FF: 15 | Init +3 | CMD: 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +7 | Will +5 | Percep +9

Skills:
BG [Perform: Sing, and Profession: Sailor]
Diplomacy, Perception, Spellcraft, UMD, Escape Artist, Linguistics x4 [Cyclops, Vudrani, Osiriani, Aklo]

Spells:
Sleep is swapped for Featherfall

Spells per Day: 1 extra 1st, and 1 extra 2nd
New 2nd Lvl Spell: Suggestion

Abilities: Lifewater (Su)
Gain 2 additional rounds of Bard Song
Inspire Courage increases to +2

Feat: Spell Focus: Enchantment

Female Undine Watersinger Bard/5
Vital:
HP: 36/36 | AC: 18 T: 13 FF: 15 | Init +3 | CMD: 15 | Fort +3 | Ref +7 | Will +5 | Percep +9

I'm still working on double checking all the values for Pre, and Post Rickety's shares, but we've got a new Loot List that will be much easier to maintain from now on. It'll also help the GM determine if we're where we should be.

Loot

I will need to finish updating tomorrow, but it won't take long. We can move on in the drama

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

I'll do a big post tomorrow evening!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

GM:

Cool. I'll have to play with the others, then...

  • +1 BAB, CMB, CMD
  • +7 hp (6 from class, +1 CON)
  • FCB - + 1/4 of a grit point
  • Musket Training 1 - add DEX modifier to musket damage rolls; increase misfire value by 2 rather than 4 following a misfire
  • Feat - Rapid Shot

Aramis is done!

Ok. I think I'm done, but I need to do a final check.
Feat: deadly aim
+1 bab
+2 fort, reflex
Freebooters bane, track, wild enpathy

Only thing I might tweak is my feat choice, not sure what I would make it though if I did. Have to do some digging I suppose.

*Edit:
Not sure if this has been brought up but is Item Crafting allowed? If so I might take a feat for that. If anyone already has one let me know so I don't double up.

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Our original healer-type had craft potions. Crafting is fine, just remember most of your time is on a ship (ie Arms and Armor will be a tough thing)

Aramis and I already use a pretty good chunk of time to craft our paper cartridges/black powder and care for our firearms. At this point a fire aboard the Fury probably stands a good chance of blowing the whole ship to splinters if it gets below decks.

Speaking of... I need to work on a quick way to dump that stuff in case that very thing happens...

Alright, I decided to take craft wondrous item instead of combat casting this level. It should be a very useful addition to our sets of skills.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Oh it definitely seems like it. That, and wands and scrolls and potions are great help.

As a sorcerer those aren't as easy for me to do as I can't ignore pre-reqs on them, wondrous items I generally can if I can make the dc, which is going to be hard to start with, least my odds of wasting material on low level stuff won't be too bad.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Some of the other stuff I will try to help with. Some of it, I think, I've got a decent chance of success with.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

Awwww, but a big old explosion keeps things interesting...

If by interesting you mean "I now have that bit of unpolished railing that always bothered me so in my left eye. Oh, and I'm 50 feet in the air without my liver just waiting to come back down to see where it went". :P

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

"Interesting; define 'interesting'?"
"Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?"

Not all. Just those standing anywhere near that powder if it goes off. And let's face it, that's probably going to be one or both of us.

Male Human Swashbuckler 5

Hi Guys, I know I've been out on posting, but I'm still around. Just a bit down and out. I've been battling a bit of a strange nerve issue in my neck and arm for the last while. We still don't know what the cause is, but I've been losing feeling in my right arm, or having it filled with pins and needles. It hasn't led to be able to type or mouse all that well and my attention has been a little divided.

I'd like to do my best to stay on left handed and hopefully I can get myself sorted out sooner than later. My brain just hasn't been all that focused lately.

I am pretty crazy behind on my reading, so I'm hoping to have some pain-free time to catch up.

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Thanks for the post, Cassius! I was worried about you, but thought your recent life changes were keeping you tied up. Sorry to hear you are having health woes, but take your time and get healthy! We'll be here!

Grand Lodge

Male Human Swashbuckler 5

1d10 ⇒ 8

Catching up on the hit points...

So far for me this level has been:

+1 BAB
+11 HP
Swashbuckler weapon training +1 (Which gives me improved critical, I believe my 18-20 threat range is now 15-20 right?)

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

That's correct Cassius (Ain't it nice?)

That being said: As an FYI, Maera and I will be at a con this weekend, so posting may be slim (at least for me, as I'm there a bit more than she is)

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

Sorry for my silence. The last few days have been really rough, and I've had to take a step back for my own mental stability. I'm back now, and I should be able to resume some semblance of a normal posting schedule.

However, I will be out of town from Friday night to Sunday night (my time). The fella and I are having weekend in Victor Harbour to recharge our batteries, and I may not be able to post. If it holds things up, bot me.

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

No worries, lady ma'am. We were at a con this weekend, as I said, so I am just getting caught back up!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

Would it be possible to craft up some Holy Weapon Balm? It would help make our firearms more effective against the 'living impaired'. Best bet would probably be to get Doc to craft some up (if he's still on board) or for Aramis to get some help (if he isn't).

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Doc will work on that for you!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Gunslinger (musket master) 5 | AC17, T15, FF12 | HP 39/39 | CMD 19 | F+5, R+8, W+2 | Init+6 | Perception +9 (+12 if Rotgut within 20 ft) | Grit 4/4

Just so you all know, I'll be a bit absent for a while. Not going anywhere, just dealing with a break-up that's left me feeling shattered and drained. I'll keep posting when I can.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Aramis, you take your time. We've all been through the rough times (I've had a lot of those the past year), so no apologizing or anything necessary. You just take time for you, and I'm sure that we'll all be here.
