Azim finishes his chicken he then stands an bows to Asura

Thank you for letting me sit with you. I'm sorry we didn't have more conversation. My mind is elsewhere. Maybe we will meet again. I would like to speak to this alchemist you work for. Maybe he has seen my friend. For now I'm going to use the remaining evening to ask around about her. Peace be with you my friend

Azim bows once more and starts packing up his gear. He will go to the bar and speak to the bar keep.

Greetings sir. I am Abdul-Azim Usama Samad. I have come to join the crusade as many have. A friend of mine has been here for a year already. He goes into a description of Hana Have you or any that work here seen her?

"Another Qadiran like you? Sure I see a couple in here every week, fewer women than men. While their clothes, like yours, stand out, they always seem adept at being just slightly indistinguishable.. Same hair, same tanned skin, same gracefulness of movement, even the same wrong foreigner phrases.... Still perhaps I can help you find the right place to start. Why did she come to join the crusades? To fight the demons? To succor those in need? For glory of self or the Dawnflower? A calling from Sarenrae? Or was she trying to escape her past?”

Female Aasimar (Idyllkin) Oracle 5 |

Asura shrugs as the woman walks off but takes a moment to contimplate her words until Azim stands to leave. She smiles at him then downs her last drink "Well, if you'll have me I can help you try and find your friend. It will give me a bit of a break from my other work and I can take you to Efwin, though I wouldn't know that he has any idea where your friend is."

@Asura
Company and conversation is always welcome. I would be honored for you to help. Blessings upon you for this. Your quality will be known amongst the temple of Sarenrae for this.

@Barkeep
I see. Like other churches we too heard the call for aid. Our temple decided to train additional Dawnflowers to meet the call. Hana finished a year prior to me as she was more advanced. Her first service would be to the church here then to the city. The church has not seen her in days, and no not where she frequents. Any aid you offer is welcome.

Baradesh glanced over at the man addressing the barkeep. Taller than him - but then, not many humans weren't - and dressed in what he assumed was Qadrian dress. The scimitar the man carried looked polished and cared for, with a biting edge Baradesh would not wish to feel. All told a worthy ally, as his instructors at the temple had always said.

"Excuse me, friend, the Dwarf said as he turned. "I couldna help but overhear your plight. I am Baradesh, a servant of Iomadae. Ah am new to the city, but have much free time until the festival in a few days. It wouldnae be a problem to keep an eye oot. Even with the crusade I dinnae imagine there are too any of your fellows within the walls, and in truth you would be doing me a kindness by letting me help. Ah am at a loose end as it is."

Roll20 Maps

As Baradesh enters the Defender's Heart he sees a small scene playing out between an older lady; a young, inebriated woman; and a Qadrian. He overhears the Qadiran, now at the bar, asking about a countrymen who joined the crusades last year.

At first it appears that no one noticed Baradesh's entrance, then he notices that one group have marked his arrival -- a table of two crusaders of Iomedae, with stern unfriendly faces. They have tankards in from of them, but don't appear to be drinking heavily. They stared briefly at Baradesh before returning to their quiet conversation, no hint of welcome in their faces.

Oops posted right as Baradesh did... think I can leave this without confusing matters

Meria, with Mia and Martha in tow, leads Andanan to the Defender's Heart. Meria knows she has a few moments to spare before she needs to leave for her appointment with Beegrund. An elegant, older lady is leaving the Inn as you arrive; she gives the four of you a look focusing on Meria, Andanan, and Mia -- with a slight knowing smile at the last, before turning to go on her way.

Seemingly satisfied with Mia's answer, she smiles at her. "You should continue your studies. You have a good memory and could do well." She then turns to Andanan. "Have you found a place to stay yet? I could show you to some of the local inns if you like."

The rock-man shrugged, thought for a moment and then nodded.

I have literally just arrived in the city. I would appreciate some local assistance, provided I am not inconveniencing you. Perhaps we could continue to communicate throughout the week; and take our vows together? I am far from home and I am a stranger here. You would honour me if you were amenable.

Turning to the Dwarf
Greetings Baradesh, I am Abdul-Azim Usama Samad. I could not ask for you to help with this, but for you to offer it freely I accept. I am honored to have a warrior of Iomedae along side.

He then looks back to the barkeep awaiting where he recomends looking.

The barkeep thinks for a moment and responds: "So she was at the temple and now is missing... You say they haven't heard from her in a few days. If she's the type to get lost in books, she might have gone to the Librarium to study up on demons, but that doesn't hold up for multiple days absence. I've heard some of the local hotheads have been launching raids on the demons, trying to gain honor and recognition before the ceremony, rather than wait for more organized expeditions. You'd probably have the most luck asking around some of the Low Templar units outside the gates... most of the holy orders and even the non-holy orders associated with the temples keep their folks busy in prayer and training."

Going to move things along, feel free to be liberal with flashbacks as you desire
Its the night before Armasse. Those of you helping Abdul-Azim with his search for Hana have had a singularly frustrating week of traipsing around the districts of the city and the camps outside. You've seen the best and the worst that Kenabres has to offer. No one can uniquely identify Hana for Abdul-Azim, the closest you've come is that a Qadarin lady had been visiting one of the low templar groups earlier, but was recruited away by a group of more noble looking warriors in a mixed faith group. The low templars watched the group re-enter the city. You haven't found anyone inside the city that remembers this group. A warrior of Iomedae bearing a glaive was the leader of the group.

At the camps outside the city you are shocked by the degree to which these opportunistic low templars seek glory and wealth with little to no regard for the righteousness of the fight and the means used. At the temples throughout the city, however, you are touched by the generosity of the priests and congregations. While it seems everyone has lost a loved one to the crusade, people are still always there to support the newest bereaved.

The six of you continually cross paths, even if you're not accompanying Abdul-Azim on his mission. In a city of strangers you become a familiar face to one another and made plans to meet up this last night before Armasse, back at the Defender's Heart.

Looks good. I was enjoying the RP, but best to move things along so game doesn't die before it starts :)

I wish to thank all of you for your friendship and help in searching for my friend. It seems we have made much progress. Let us not dwell on that for now and enjoy each others conversations, and of course some mead.

Azim stands as he speaks, raising a glass he sits again before taking a drink.

| HP 34/34 | AC 22, T 13, FF 20 | Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +5 | CMB +8, CMD 20 | Perc +7 | Init +2

"Well, one thing can be said," Baradesh replied as he held his own drink, "We have found many places your lady friend is not. 'Tis an achievement. Of sorts."

The search had been eye-opening for the Paladin. Although it had been mentioned that there were those out mostly for there own glory and gain, he always assumed they were a small minority, a small blight on the blessed duties of the Crusade and it's Holy mission. Instead he had found a group much larger and more corrupt than he assumed - and troops far too valauble to be simply sent away.

Still, if nothing else it showed the might of Iomadae's wisdom. Even those seeking there own glory served the blessed cause of driving the demons back into the Worldwound and reclaiming the tormented realm from there lunatic grasp. It was an easy thing for a Goddess to command her faithful into battle - it was another to make the debased fight for the same cause.

Taking a sip of the mead, Baradesha added, "Is that just a wee taste of raspberry on my tounge?"

He devoted himself to his training with quiet zeal, wanting to be ready for the struggles that lay ahead.

She offered to help her at the shop for parts of the day.

But she didn't have luck finding the other halflings of her group.
Running into Andanan and Meria while she had time off to wander around, she did develop some interest in the two.

She came upon Andanan one day. Seeing him busy training, she had snuck nearby and sat down.
"Tjip, could you go see if Andanan has time to chat?"
The little bird took off and took down on the rocky man's shoulder, where it started singing.
After half a minute or so, it flew up, circling abit and flying back to Mia.

Asura helped in Azim's search when she had time. As expected Efwin was of little help. She continued seeing to her tasks at the store, still bogged down at work and not able to get out often to enjoy herself and get occupied with something other than haggling and talking business with various crusaders and mercenaries.

Looking forward to the meetup Asura heads to the Defender's Heart early to get a good group of seats and start the party early.

The week leading up to Armasse was filled with preparations for Meria. She spent more time running errands to prepare for the week she would be gone. She met several others who would be swearing their oaths as well, possibly future comrades in the days to come. She also occasionally spotted young Mia and her caretaker Martha. She couldn't help but like the young girl.

Roll20 Maps

The sun rises on Armasse and the entire city is abuzz. Crowds fill the streets and head towads the Plaza of St Clydwell up in Old Kenabres. People are dressed in their finest clothes or armor as appropriate. Some neighborhood priests lead their congregations in parade to the plaza, but most arrive as collections of families and friends. By mid-morning the plaza is well filled and vendors are lining the sides. This pre-celebration has a decidedly free and non-pious feeling. Meria’s challenge and the those of you seeking to take vows know your part in the ceremony is in the late afternoon after numerous sermons and recitings of historic and recent victories.

You see the lady from Defender’s Heart, the one who seemed to know more than she could, mingling through the crowd. She seems to focus on those new to the crusades; encouraging some in their plans to take vows, gently persuading others to delay a year. You discover her name is Elana; a noble, a widow from the crusades. You hear she’s a pious woman who has been known for having great insight into the capabilities and readiness of others and one who has donated most of her family's holdings to the cities defense.

At noon Lord Prelate Hulrun Shappok steps forth to open the holiday. The crowd quiets as he approaches the podium. He looks down for a moment, collecting his thoughts or offering a silent prayer. Suddenly a loud explosion and flash of light breaks the tranquility, from the west. As the smoke settles, it can be seen that the Kite is gone. The defensive citadel that holds Kenabres’ Wardstone is gone.

Rising in its place, is a massive red skinned man-shaped demon. Easily three times the height of a tall man, large horns jut from his brow and batlike wings from his back. Wielding a massive sword and whip, he strides forward towards the plaza, lightning crackling around him. Behind him other horrible demons appear through the smoke, surging into the city. Most are small, but there are a few more huge creatures, grey skinned and horned. As they stomp cracks open in the ground and expand into deep chasms. The smaller demons rush into the crowd, intent on carnage. The knights and other warriors in the crowd begin to setup a perimeter, trying to keep civilians safe. You see paladins of Iomedae fighting along side hellknights of the godclaw, at times like these their differences overlooked.

”Khorramzadeh! You will die this time!” screams Elena, leaping into the air. She continues higher and higher into the air, her form enlarging and elongating, until you recognize Terendelev, an ancient silver dragon, one of the most famous defenders of the city. Drawing Khorramzadeh up and away from the city.

What do you do?

Andanan wanted to fight. He had been stood with Meria and they had pledged to take their vows together. He yearned to join the battle lines and fight shoulder to shoulder with the knights that were holding the line. His fairly dull intellect barely understood the enormity of what was happening. To the Oread, this seemed to just be an assault; one of many assaults that Kenabres was surely subjected to on a regular basis.

Khorramzadeh? Have I heard this name before...

Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Andanan prepared to march over to help hold the line, but hesitated as he heard the familiar not-child call out for her protector. He looked to Meria for direction as he gently lifted the girl up and onto his strong shoulder.

Apologies if that is taking too much liberty with your character we can always retcon it or have Mia resist.

She... is not safe here he said quietly to his comrade would-be-crusader, not truly sure where to take her.

At the moment of the explosion time seemed to stand still as the surreal scene played out. Azim's stance shifted and he clenched the pommel of his sword. Seems joining the crusade would be a fleeting memory. The demons bringing the fight here to us. Who is on crusade? So many thoughts racing through the Quadiran's head when suddenly the screams of the crowd brought him back. Azim knew he was not ready to stand against such a force. He was yet to take his true vow to live by the holy code. He was no match for the dark forces storming the city. What he could do is help those unable to help themselves. The small the old. It all happened so fast and now people lay trampled in place as the holy warriors move to set up the perimeter.

Azim will be moving and helping those that have fallen get to safety.

Female Aasimar (Idyllkin) Oracle 5 |

Asura turns quickly as she hears the explosion as the dust settles and she no longer see the Kite where it has always been and instead a huge demonic form she froze. Though the demons were a constant threat she had never seen anything like this, especially now with no Wardstones, the Wardstones always held true, or at least she thought. Flashes of her father and the various imaginings of what actually happened to him ran through her mind and then Efwin, she looked around for him. Although he was capable enough he has still been a friend to her these last several years. She couldn’t remember if he had planned to come to the ceremony or not. A knight bumped into here, nearly knocking her over as he rushed to join the perimeter and she snapped back to the here and now.

As people run and scream everywhere she pulls out her bow and looks for a good vantage point and any familiar lesser demons she might be able to help strike down. A grin forms on her lips as she realizes she can finally get some demon slaying in.

You've never heard of the other large grey skinned demons.

A sense of panic wells inside Meria when the demon appears. For all of the resolve she had thought she had built up, this was something far greater than she thought her first battle would be.

Andanan's words shake her out of the terror. Turning to him, seeing him holding Mia, she realizes they have to act or face a potential slaughter. "The Wardstone is gone. That means the demons could appear anywhere. Over there, they look to be evacuating civilians. Let's head in that direction for now." Meria, you can read Asura's Knowledge above

The battle is going poorly in the plaza and in the air above. The large grey demons are intent on tearing down the cathedral. Smashing it with the fists and opening chasms beneath it. They appear completely unfazed by the best that the defenders are hitting them with. While a few paladins have drawn bloods, it has not been enough to distract the demons from destruction, apparently less than a mosquito bite.

The defenders are having a better time with their perimeter and keeping the lesser demons away from the innocents, however the demon's numbers are slowly taking their toil and the defenders are slowly falling in their retreat.

Your actions are helping countless innocents get to dubious safety at the far end of the plaza. Asura takes down a quasit with a series of well-placed shots. Abdul-Azim, Andanan, and Mia are keeping the frightened civilians from outright panic. A large crack opens suddenly in the ground around you. The six of you, along with several civilians fall. It looks a long way down.
Abdul-Azim, in the split second before you fall, you see Hana across the other side of the chasm. Hard-pressed but holding her own again a man-sized red demon. She's alive!

As you're all falling you see Khorramzadeh score a fatal blow on Terendelev, nearly severing her neck. Terendelev falls, her eyes beginning to cloud over. Even in her distress, she sees your plight. You see her lips move in a chant and suddenly your descent is greatly slowed. You gently drift further into the chasm and you hear deep, booming chanting above. Your slowed descent suddenly accelerates again and the edges of the chasm slam shut.

* * * * * *

You awake in complete darkness; resting on rubble. There's a musty, dusty smell in the air. You hear quiet gasps and whimpers.

Sitting up slowly, Baradesh rubbed one gauntleted hand over his face, feeling as the rough metal scoured his skin and small hairs were caught in the moving joints and yanked out. He ignored the minor pain. He felt inside the deep wounds of the attack on the city. Although it had not been his act to withdraw while the fighting still raged, he felt a lingering shame that he was not above, fighting to save the city.

"I am fine, and I can see. With or without light. But I need to return to the surface. I canna hind underground while others die in my place." The Dwarf paused, shaking his head. "Nae, let me not be foolish. First we must be fine, then I can return to the fight above. May I suggest all check our equipment for damage from the battle and fall, and then we can get to moving?

Rising to his feet, Baradesh started giving his equipment a once over, making sure that nothing had been dented or harmed during the fall. Only once he was sure of his equipment did the Paladin start squinting into the darkness, looking for an exit.

Baradesh. We will need your affinity with stone to find a way out of here, earth brother.

Shovel in one hand, Andanan picked up three pebbles; and forcibly broke his skin's rocky surface with them, leaving them imbedded in his gem-stone encrusted chest for a moment. A mere moment later he pulled the pebbles free; and they seemed to have absorbed some of the Oread's strength and durability, glowing faintly with magic.

He passed one of the pebbles to Mia and one to Meria, keeping the third for himself.

The cavern you are in is large, roughly circular but squeezed a little at the what you'll consider the cardinal points. You'd estimate it at 130 feet across both directions. The end you're at is filled with rubble, large and small rocks, paving stones, and pieces of the cathedral. In the center you see a motionless bulbous shape, that looks like some kind of overgrown spider. Three of the bodies are still alive. I'll probably create aliases for them soon
Sounds of soft whimpering come for a human woman who landed near you, she's bleeding profusely, and her leg is pinned under a large rock that must have fallen on her."My leg, my leg, please can anyone help me"

Adanan, please help me move this rock. You too, if you wish us to hurry." The last she calls out to the noble, hoping to get his aid as well.

Roll20 Maps

Meria:

You recognize the spells being cast as flare, a common cantrip. To your knowledge its being successfully cast. And you're all lucky that he's casting away from you.

Female Human

"Ahh, that's stopped the bleeding. Thank you, little girl. I'm Anevia. I think you're going to need more help to get this rock off of me. " she gasps "Ow, oh please be careful, its crushing my leg."

Male Elf

Elven:

"Who's that? Where are you? Where are we? Why is it so dark? My face, it feels like its on fire. The fire, the whip, my face."

He turns to face you; you see horrible burns across his face; his eyes are gone. He must have taken a blow from Khorramzadeh's whip across the face before the fall. Its amazing he's still alive, but you can tell he is near death.

Male Human

Looking as if you've asked him to clean the privy, Horgus walks over to assist with moving the rock. When he see who is pinned, an expression crosses his face that you can't read and is quickly replaced with his normal scowl.
"I guess you're right. Though I can't see how it will help. She's not going to able to walk and keep up if that rock has crushed her leg."

Roll20 Maps

Together you manage to shift the rock, but you quickly see that Horgus's prediction is correct. Anevia's leg is crushed, broken in several places.

Spoiler:

"I'm Mia. It..seems your eyes are gone, sorry."

Mia sees this man is beyond her capabilities. Without a medkit, any attempt is much more difficult.

Spoiler:

"Did any of your family escape to your knowing?"

"Dinnae matter if she can walk or no," Baradesh replied to Horgus. "If we cannae make a litter or some such on which to carry the lady, then I shall carry her meself. She is a wee slip of a lass. It will not be hard." Baradesh shrugged, although he suspected it wouldn't be nearly as simple as he said. But he wasn't going to leave someone to die down in the dark. He knew how much most races feared that.

The Paladin reached down and lifted one of the silver scale. All that remained of the dragon that had saved them? Baradesh knew that resurrection magic was possible. Returning such a mighty creature to life might be possible, and it might be helpful to have something from the body to help, so he slipped it into his backpack.

The Paladin glanced at the man. "Are ye hurt, sir? We should take care of that before we set off." Although he didn't expect them to make great time, carrying at least one person and leading another recently blinded through the tunnels. Baradesh couldn't remember anything about tunnels beneath the city. "Also, does anyone know owt about yonder tunnels? I'm too recent to have heard of them."

Meria tries to hold her tongue at the nobleman's words, preferring to focus on helping the woman, but when Baradesh scolds him, she flashes him a smile in gratitude. She looks over to Mia with the elven man, feeling sorrow for his predicament. She utters an incantation to her (Message cantrip), "Mia, be cautious, and see if you can convince him to stop with the spells. Those are flare cantrips, and can blind someone for a moment. And perhaps find out his name if you can?"

She turns back to the two civilians. "And would you two be willing to share your names? I'm Meria."

Andanan followed Baradesh's lead and took one of the silver scales.

A pragmatist, Andanan set himself to creating a makeshift litter; and asked Baradesh to aid him.

First he set down his bedroll and gently moved Anevia on top of it. Looking at his shovel with a critical eye, he wrenched out the metal end with brute force, leaving only the long handle. He made small holes in each edge of the bedroll and fed the long handle through them on one side, doing the same on the other with his quarterstaff. With both handles now loosely secured, Andanan removed a folding chair from his backpack; and smashed it apart. He used the wood to fashion additional support and rope to hold the contraption together.

Female Aasimar (Idyllkin) Oracle 5 |

As events unfold Asura keeps out of the way of those helping with the rock knowing sometimes too many helpers can cause more of a problem. Instead she will go over to the strange spider shape to get a better look and see if it is a threat or if there are anymore like it.

At Baradesh's mention of tunnels under the town she thinks back on the time she has been here if she had heard mention of such.

Azim takes a moment to gather his thought still thinking of Hana. He hears the whimpers from the girl and comes back to the moment. He offers what aid he can with the rock. After seeing the crushed leg he looks to the group.

Are any of you skilled in healing? This lege needs to be set but I'm not familiar on how to do it.
He notices Mia already looking to her wounds.

Female Human

"Oh thank, you thank you! That feels much better."She tries to raise herself off the litter, the leg obviously not bearing weight well, but she grimaces and tries to press on.
"We need to get back to the surface. Kenabres is in danger. I don't want to slow you down; perhaps with a crunch or a splint I can at least walk. Might be a little slow, but at least I'm not tying up someone from being more alert and mobile."
She checks her bow, seeing that it survived the fall, but looks dismayed that she seems to have lost most of her arrows.
"I'll help when I can, but only if its a sure shot."

She looks almost fully healed, aside from the leg which will require either long-term care or much more powerful magic to address.
