Round 2.

Romon nods at Shalelu to celebrate their successful collaboration. Then, grinning recklessly, he draws and fires at the remaining goblin dog.

1d20, 1d6=[9], [5] yields 14 to hit, 5 damage without flanking or sneak attack.

A little caught in the moment. He's not thinking about friendly fire.

Alis first round action was her shape change

Amidst a twanging of bowstrings the last dog bites the dust.you have two choices..go north to the end of the bridge..or go east down another bramble tunnel

Marak's sword again floats back to his hand, and he calmly steps forward to make sure each of the creatures is dead before cleaning and sheathing the blade.

"Goblin 'dogs?' These seem more over-sized rats, to my eye..." he says, as he raises his holy symbol and calls again upon the power of Nethys to cleanse the wounds of his companions.

10 healing for everyone!

Seeing the effects, he smiles and closes his eyes, whispering his gratitude to his patron, before releasing his grasp on his two-faced holy symbol and readying himself to continue.

Inikai is taken by surprise at the sudden display of power. He looks at Marak and then at the dead dogs and wipes a tear from his eye. "Poor wretched creatures..." he mutters.

Ah, I though that might be what it was about Wellard. Sorry for the confusion; if you check on page 40 of the PHB II though you'll see that the Alternative Druid Class Feature of Shapeshift only requires a Swift Action. If you want to change it for your campaign or anything though that's of course your prerogative so please just lemme know.

Remaining in wolf form Ali pads to the entrance to both tunnels, taking a good look and sniff to see if she can get any hint about what may lie down each passageway.

"We should head to the bridge, with all due stealth."

Muchorak waits for the others input before moving in either direction.

Ali

Spoiler:
You get a distinct scent of cat from the eastern tunnel there's a goblin scent too. Also whilst Marak was finishing off the dogs you sat and scratched..it was a really nasty itch centered around the area the goblin dog bit you in. As soon as Marak channels the itching stops

Updated Map Party in area C5

Female Human (Chelish) Sorcerer 3

Kallie had let out a deep sigh of relief as the last of the dogs was cut down. She was grateful for Marak's quick healing, particularly for Ali's sake, but Inikai's reaction drew a curious look from her. She had felt uncomfortable with the matter of finishing off the fallen goblins, but Inikai shedding a tear for what seemed like mad dogs was entirely unexpected. She found herself awkwardly and silently patting him on the shoulder, trying to comfort someone who she had never thought of as needing comforting.

When Muchorak spoke up, Kallie was quick to agree. "Yes, let's keep moving, please!" If they were on a bridge, they couldn't be attacked from all sides at least. Then we'll just have to worry about being completely exposed to anyone with bows or magic and...oh gods... Kallie tried desperately to stop thinking about their situation for the moment.

I'll be away from computer for at least four days, although I'll try to finagle a way to log on at least once in that time. Feel free to run Marak as necessary during that time. Muchorak should still have a couple of hours of Shield Other active (3 hour total duration, was cast at the start of the first Goblin encounter), which gives him a +1 deflection bonus to AC, +1 resistance bonus to all saving throws and transfers half of the damage he takes to Marak, who has four more 2d6 channel energy uses left as well as some spells he can convert to cure spells (and a wand, to boot!). Good hunting all!

Romon watches the pair. Their proximity to each other and Kallie's pat on the back seem to concern him more than Inikai's apparent insincerity.

Ali spends a moment more sniffing in both directions then flows back to Gnome form saying "Ali no smell yucky Goblins from bridge, but she do smell Yucky Goblins that way." pointing in the other direction available to the party. "Also she smell...um...how you say? Meow Meow! Cat??" The Wild Druid seems herself a little confused about this last part.

She's then stays quiet, waiting for Big Bear's decision when she suddenly seems to think of something else "Oh! And Ali think maybe we need be careful of yucky Goblin Dog bites! They make her feel...no good...before HolyMan heal us."

Ali then makes her way over to Inikai "What wrong Icki? Ali try talky to them Goblin dogs but they no right in head. Hmmm, maybe they get yucky like Goblins Ali think. Maybe it better for them we makey them no be Goblin dogs no more." And she too pats him comfortingly, only able to reach as high as his lower back though.

Female Human (Chelish) Sorcerer 3

Kallie frowned in thought as she tried to think of something to say to ease Inikai's unexpected soft-heartedness. Ali's warning gave her just that. "Maybe there wasn't anything that could be done for them...it sounds like they were diseased. They were probably rabid..." She was certain of that now, though she was woefully ignorant about animals and the wild.

She was nervously keeping an eye on Ali now though, as if she expected the gnome to start foaming at the mouth at any moment.

Male Human Binder 11 |Init +7 |HP 68/102 |AC 19 FF 16 T 13| CMD +8 | F+10 R+10 W+9 Percep +8

"I was thinking that" Inikai says as he composes himself quickly.

"We should press on before anyone notices the carnage here or looks for their companions."

If we dump the bodies over the side of the bridge will the be concealed?

Might be easier to dump them down the hole

Female Human (Chelish) Sorcerer 3

Kallie concurred. "Yeah, let's get moving!" Once the matter of the bodies came up though, she began eyeing the pit. "Do you think it would be quicker to use that?" She would have started to drag the corpses over herself, but she couldn't bring herself to touch them. Instead she was delicately nudging the closest dead dog forward with her feet, ready to leap back the moment it so much as twitched. She whimpered at the sight of what she was doing.

"Ali..." she desperately tried to focus on something besides what she was doing. "You said you smelled a cat? You don't mean a big cat, do you?"

Muchorak looks at the group, "We must decide quickly. We cannot linger or leaving bodies behind won't matter."

Muchorak will support whatever decision the group makes, if it's to dump the bodies down the pit he will start throwing them in the pit

Romon eyes the bodies with distaste. Touching them, let alone dragging or picking them up does not appeal. "We left a bunch of goblin bodies behind us. Shouldn't we be more worried about those? I say let's move on."

Male Human Binder 11 |Init +7 |HP 68/102 |AC 19 FF 16 T 13| CMD +8 | F+10 R+10 W+9 Percep +8

Ali looks strangely at Kallie for a moment, wondering if the sorceress has some magical way of knowing how big something is just from it's smell and the Wild Druid is ever more curious about the extent of her friends powers. Finally though she just says "Ali no know how big is cat just by smell" (or Does she Wellard??)

At the groups indecision, Ali seems uncomfortable, expecting her pack leader to take control. Felling though that it may not be wise to seek out more enemies while leaving other to come up behind, the small gnome flows back to wolf form and moves towards the entrance leading to the Goblin and cat smell, looking over her shoulder at her friends and whining slightly, in more of a questioning tone.

If they follow, she goes further in that direction, moving as quietly and again scouting ahead, moving through and in-between the walls of thorns.

Romon nods at the direction Ali starts in and sweeps a hand outward, gesturing for the others to precede him down that trail.

Khal really nice touch about the confusion when the pack leader doesn't. Swwet.

all ali can tell is that it's a strong and recent cat scent

Female Human (Chelish) Sorcerer 3

Kallie looked up from the grim business she had barely helped with to see Romon's gesture. Did he and Ali find something? She looked at the others and wandered over to the trail Romon and Ali seemed to be interested in, waving the others over as she went.

I'm pretty sure we're all ready to go down the trail.

At this Inikai starts a bit.

A big cat in these cramped tunnels? I only hope there is only one of them.

You move down the tunnel again forced to crouch and half crawl through the tangles of nettles and brambles. Thorns snag at your hair and your clothing and you all look pretty dishevelled by now.

As you pass through a slightly wider area a harsh goblin voice calls out and the brambles seem to come to life reaching out to ensnare you.Marak and Inakai find themselves entangled in the clutching thorns(take 1 point of damage each) the rest of you are free to move but the grabbing plants slow you down..count as in difficult terrain(yes even Ali).

Muchorak will move out into the open area to see if he can identify the Goblin voice...

The rest of his actions depend on what is seen in the clearing and if he can spot the goblin that spoke.

Marak's blade extricates itself from the scabbard on his back, and floats nearby while Marak struggles and pulls at the thorny undergrowth hindering his movements. He curses softly as the thorny branches tear the exposed skin of his forearms.

Until he can see a target, the longsword hovers impotently, the faint glimmering of whatever barely-perceptible magical force animates it curling off of it's blade like smoke.

Sword unsheathes as a free action, Marak holds action until he can see a target, whether a goblin or a big kitty-cat, at which point the sword moves up to 15 ft. to attack said target.

20 to hit, 12 damage, when (and if) applicable.

Romon has been creeping along behind the others, doing his best to walk silently and listen behind him as he walks. He also glances frequently over his shoulder, looking for the mountain lion his subconscicous is sure is stalking them.

When the goblin calls out, Romon whirls to check the party's rear, touching arrow to bowstring, and looking for a clear target.

Kallie nearly yelped at the sight of the brambles constricting about them, and nearly let loose her flame before she caught her wits. She held her heavenly fire in check, stumbling after the others and keeping her eyes out for whoever was responsible for animating the plants. Then she would let the fire fly.

Kallie will move as far as she can while keeping behind Muchorak. Holding an action to use Heavenly Fire on whoever it is controlling the plants.

Wellard:

Spoiler:
If enemies are in the front he will use his lightning. If they are in the back within 30 feet he will use his breath to blind them so that Romon can gain a sneak attack. If he has to melee he will use the sadness aura.

Female Human (Chelish) Sorcerer 3

bump :)

Moving forwards slowly Muchorak,Shalelu and Ali spot a hunched over goblin..he looks old..beside him is a black and red furred cougar sized cat...a flamepelt..the small wolf leaps to the attack but the goblin miraculously avoids the strike and and the cat then attacks at her with it's own teeth and claws(missing her) as the goblin cackles a spell..despite his being hit with a carefully aimed elven arrow

The rest of you apart from Shalelu find yourselves ensnared by the thorns.(1 point of damage each)

(ok..at the moment only the stated characters can see the target..your moving at half speed in the tunnels and the entangle spell area effect cuts that by half again..in addition it requires a reflex save each turn(after your turn) to avoid being entangled for one point of damage. This is a really nasty fight)

A ball of flame appears in front of the goblin and rolls over the ground towards the entangled ranger..it engulfs him the thorns hampering his efforts to escape it(13 points of fire damage on Muchorak)

Ok, I think Ali is up if this is the next round. If not, please forgive

Quickly backpedaling from the big cat, in the blink of an eye Ali flows to Gnome form, puts out an arm, palm forward, and in an as loud and commanding voice as she can yells "Stop!"

Not waiting to see anyone's reactions the Wild Druid looks furiously yet also...curiously at the wizened goblin as she says, more serious and forceful than any of her friends have seen her before "You serve Spirt of Land, Ali see. Yet you be Goblin. And no yucky Goblins Ali meet before No serve Land, no no. So tell Ali now; do you first serve The Land or do you first serve yucky goblins?" Although her anger is evident in her tone, clear also is a certain...cautious respect for the ancient Druid. Diplomacy (1d20+3=7)

Eyeing the cougar warily yet respectfully she says gently in Animal Tongue "Be at ease beautiful one. I have no wish to kill you little sister/brother. Yet if you harm my friends I shall have to." Wild Empathy (1d20+8=28)

Though she speaks to possibly end the conflict, she is still prepared for it and stands in full defensive mode.

its a full round action to usre a skill..so which one do you use

real reason for posting: does that moving fireball leave a clear path for Muchorak to advance on the goblin or do the thorns fill in?

How far is this goblin from Muchorak? Trying to figure out the distance before I figure out the actions. Is Muchorak still in the tunnels? Trying to see if he is doubly hampered movement or just singly.

Really? That seems kind of strange. At least for these kinds of skill checks. If we're disabling a trap, then yes I can see that. But for just talking? Wouldn't these kinds of skill rolls be more something inherent than something she has to 'use'? But anyway, rules are rules (until they're broken or changed anyway ;-) so if that's the way it is...hmm, well, this may seem a bit meta-gamey as it's the better roll, but honestly Ali has much less antipathy towards the cougar then the goblin druid so is therefore much more inclined to be on good terms with her animal sister (or brother). Even though it's probably more important to be on good terms with the druid.

The Exchange

Because of the magic linking their life-energies, the flames washing over Muchorak are blunted in their effect, but Marak hisses through gritted teeth as a measure of the injury washes over him as well, and those near him feel a wash of heat pour off of him and see his skin blister, as if he too was caught in the rolling sphere of flames.

Muchorak takes 7 hp instead of 13, Marak takes the remaining 6 hp. Don't forget the +1 AC and saves!

Marak struggles as far forward as he can, to get within viewing range of the goblin and firepelt.

If they already are within viewing range, his longsword will move forward 15 ft. to the attack. If they are beyond a 15 ft. range, but within 30 ft., the sword will move the remaining distance in the next round. Otherwise, the sword will remain floating 15 ft. ahead of Marak as he struggles to move forward.

Ali the free action for speech is for short statements of no real import..you are concentrating on trying to adjust a creatures attitude in my opinion thats a full round action

Muchorak is basically on the edge of the tunnel..with an effort he could make it to the goblin this round..Shalelu was firing over his shoulder..she has precise shot so Ali in melee will not affect her.

With a flaming sphere filling the end of the tunnel the view of all the other party members is blocked(including Shalelu).

OK guys I know this isn't strictly RAW but I'm trying to give a sense of just how difficult fighting in this place is..and how, if the goblins had been prepared, they could have really cut you up.

THis has been a public service announcement

And now..back to the plot.

it is indeed round two

Kallie cried out as she felt the thorns cutting into her legs. It was the first time an enemy had drawn her blood. She was haf locked up in horror then if not for the sight of the flaming sphere rolling over Muchorak.

"Oh gods, no!" She lashed out her arm to throw out her white flame once more, but this time she aimed at Muchorak.

Using Heavenly Fire on Muchorak

Kallies fire fails to connect with the Big Bear( that would have been her round one action)

Muchorak..on round one you moved through the entangling brambles to where you could see the goblin..moving to him would use your second action for the round..which meant he would have taken a 5 foot step back to avoid youand the sphere was conjured on top of you..bummer..so no attack there..this round you can full attack him I'll accept the first roll for the longsword as your strike with it..

Maraks sword floats towards the combat as he pulls himself free of the constricting vines.

Romon continues to watch the rear

Shalelu moves into the more open area placing another arrow into the Goblins body with almost unearthly accuracy

Inakai also manages to move forwards the goblin comes into view and a bolt of lightning smashes into it.(14 damage).

The goblin reels back(5 foot step away from Muchorak) his attempt at controlling his pet badly disrupted by the damage he has taken...he spits out some gutteral words and some of his wounds close. his other hand pints to Muchorak and the sphere rolls towards the ranger who this time manages to side step it easily. The cat merely lashes it's tail and watches Ali Ali's Massive score on her animal empathy combined with the goblins rolling a 1 on his handle animal have made the poor animal quite confused..
