Shalelu nods...
"A small group moving fast by day when the goblins are at their worst...striking hard at their leadership and destroying their camp...it is the only way to secure Sandpoint...I hold little hope for much help from Magnimar and even then it would probably be only enough to hold the town safe."
This causes Romon to pause in his happy contemplation of a glittery future. Suddenly his hangover is back. He suspects he knows the identity of the hard-striking, fast-moving small group all too well.
"But I wanted to go shopping with ..." , a quick look at the other men prompts him to leave that sentence unfinished.
DM Wellard
"We don't have to go immediately...Thistletop won't run away for a few days but we should strike before the week is out..." Shalelu looks around the group..."Look I know some of you..most of you...are not hardened adventurers but you really are the towns only chance of survival. If we can destroy the goblin threat once and for all your names will be remembered for years."
Alisebett
Finally her curiosity getting the better of her, Ali unceremoniously walks up to the scout and sniffs her. Seemingly satisfied she steps back and looks up at the other woman "You good you good. But Ali think she smell you before..somewhere? You no look like other toow-wen two-legs, you smell like Land. You speak you know Aroooo, grish tweet boop nar......" and for a few more seconds the Wild Druid continues to make noises and subtle facial gestures that sound and look amazingly like various forest creatures. Some of her friends have seen her do this once or twice before but it is surely at least quite...odd, for the majority of the group.
Waiting for a response Ali continues looking up at the scout.
Kaliciel
Kallie was relieved they weren't leaving immediately, though the idea still had her nervous.
She stared dumbfounded at Ali's strange display until Inikai's question brought her back to the discussion. Well, she must be feeling better...
"Yes, how long have these goblins been there?" she asked, struggling to get her calm demeanor back.
DM Wellard
Shalelu smiles at Ali as she goes through her animal speech.
"Aye I walk the land little one...and hope my efforts like yours protect it"
At Inikais question she begins to explain things.
"Thistle top is an islet, well more like a huge rock really, standing about half a bowshot offshore. The approach is a tangled mass of brambles and vines. Then theres a rope bridge covered by towers on a palisade. Not an easy nut to crack by any means....you'd probably need siege engines and a squadron of ships to be sure of a full scale attack."
"I couldn't get an accurate count on the goblins...they move around a lot but at least twenty...and more will arrive the longer we delay"
"And one thing more I saw an old..friend of mine there...the bugbear Bruthazmus"

Although she doesn't respond to Ali's question about the fawn who had been near to foal that Ali had been keeping an eye on before she came into Sandpoint, the Wild Druid still seems satisfied by the woman's response. The small Gnome nods as if the Scout had passed some sort of test.
She then starts to poke about the room, picking up and looking at various things and seemingly ignoring the conversation entirely. Yet when Shalelu finishes Ali stops at looks back at her, a slight look of confusion on her face and says "Bram-bulls and Vines? You mean Pokey Plants and Snakey Plants? Well Ali like plants and they like her, they let Ali pass by and no pokey her. Easy easy." She then looks back and forth from Muchorak and Shalelu a couple times though looking even more confused as she asks "But Ali no un-der-stand. You say there 'nother Big Bear there??"
Question. I seem to remember some spell that lets one control or move plants but can't seem to find it. Would Entangle allow one to move existing brambles out of the way? Seems somewhat logical, no?

Pass without trace?
Romon looks from face to face of his new friends. He can't quite believe that they are seriously considering this. Finding the immediate prospects daunting, he turns his mind to other things, checking out Shalelu and Kallie under the wide brim of his hat and daydreaming about the rewards due heros. If we got a thousand each for a dozen odd monsters, then 20 goblins and a bugbear should be worth ....
Muchorak "Windstriker"
Control Plant I believe is what you are looking for. As for entangle, under its discreption it just creates an entangle mass of plants, not sure if it would move them to allow smooth passage.
Alisebett
Well, yes but Control Plant is an Eighth level spell and seems more for controlling intelligent plant creatures. PwT would not work methinks. It needs a spell that would mimic the Druid's Woodland Stride ability at the least. It's Gotta exist somewhere. Anyway, my apologies, as this is obviously a topic for the OOC thread, I'll direct my further questions on this issue there

"Well, I'm dressed for it already. I'll just need to visit my room and pickup my bow and sword."
Drop into the dungeon. Demo the pool of spawning. We could be out in time for lunch and an afternoon lazing about town.
Alisebett
Ali shrugs her shoulders saying later "Kill'em Goblins now or Kill'em later ok with Ali, long as she gets to Kill'um lots." She then begins poking and prying about the room again, ready to leave soon as everyone else is.
DM Wellard
Its the work of a couple of hours to gather the observers, make your way to the temple and deal with the pool...the spawn are no match for you individually...and after the third one has been dispatched the pools radiance vanishes.
Brodert Quinkconfirms that the complex is Thassilonian identifying the statue as Runelord Alzanist one of the rulers of that fell Empire. He gives a long and rambling lecture none of which makes much sense to any of you except that Alzanist was Runelord of Wrath and the the Thassilonians regarded what you think of as the seven deadly sins as virtues.
Returning to the surface you finally get the chance to check the treasures you aqquired in the tunnels.

Marak listens intently to the description of the Runelord of Wrath, even taking out some paper and jotting down notes. Otherwise, barring the involuntary widening of his eyes at the size of the town's reward for dealing with the menace beneath the surface, he remains quiet.
Once the underground pool appears to have been purged of it's fell power, his mood brightens, and he hauls the bones left in the cells to the surface to bury them outside of town (in burlap sacks, to keep them from the view of curious villagers who might react poorly to their visible deformities). He purchases a few cloves of garlic, which he mashes up into water, and pours the punguent concoction over the overturned earth. If anyone asks, he'll claim that it has a religious significance, but it's really just to discourage stray dogs from digging up the bones... Drawing upon his temple training, he'll invoke rites of his own patron, Nethys, as it was the foul use of magic that led to their fates, and also call upon the guidance of Desna, a more commonly worshipped local diety, to these lost souls, to lead them to their eternal rest.
This will occupy him until near sundown, and when he re-unites with the others, he expresses an interest in moving on the goblins of Thistletop the next morning, if some sort of boat can be arranged to ferry them to the island near dawn.
In the room of floating objects, IIRC, there was a dead raven, a book (which Marak has), a wand and a scroll (both of which Kalliciel has). And some maggots, which, like the dead raven, nobody much wanted...
Kaliciel
Kallie was looking at the statue again as Quirk explained who it represented. Something close to admiration and envy was sneaking over her face again as she stared at it, but this time it was quickly replaced by a stern expression of contempt. Alzanist, huh? Ha! You're nothing to be admired. Me? I'm going to be greater than you. Just watch.
The clearing of the pool was bonechilling, but she had to admit that the crowd made it easier. She made sure to bother posturing for the audience, standing tall and keeping a calm face. When it came time to move the bodies however, she stayed just long enough to be certain they were being cared for before whispering to Marak and the others to please excuse her. Even the crowd didn't make seeing so many dead any easier.
DM Wellard
ok some confusion over the floating room again...there never were any human remains there..
Ilsoari gives his opinion that the floating room is a simple levitation spell given a permanebt effect. Quirk adds that the words forming in the air seem to be parts of Thassilonian religious tracts.
After some debate they suggest that it may have been a meditation chamber of some sort.
They have no suggestions on the presence of the Raven or it's associated Maggots but there certainly have been no reports of missing arcanists or familiars
Romon
During the spawning pool demonstration, Romon stands ready with his bow, but mostly just admires the lethal efficiency of his companions. During the conversations about the pool and floating room, he keeps quiet. When it comes time to haul the corpses up, he makes a show of pitching in, but leaves one of the laborers holding the body "for just a second" and makes himself scarce.
Alisebett
During the episode with the Pool, Ali as well stays in the background in her wolf form the entire time. She places herself as far from the pool as possible but is ready to run in to the attack at any time should her friends need her. A low growl can be heard coming from her all the while.
When the pile of items is put all together Ali again enables herself to be able to detect their magical emanations "oooh! Most them be magicky! Fun fun!"
She pokes and prods through most of it and eventually picks up the haversack. Opening it, looking in and finding it empty she sticks her arm in to double check as her tongue sticks out of her mouth against her upper lip. Eyes big eyes widen like saucers though as her arm goes in and keeps on going! Surprised to the point of speechlessness she looks around to her friends and proceeds to conduct " 'spearments " with the bag. First she sticks one arm in again, then the other then both. She next sticks her head in for a quick peek and finally, setting the bag down prepares to get in it. She already has one leg in and is just lifting the other when Murchorak grabs her gently by the back of her leather vest saying "No, Wolf Spirit, I do not think that is a very good idea" Looking up in defiance for the briefest moment she then capitulates to her pack leader and says "ok!"
Standing with her hand on her chin for a moment in thought Ali finally picks up the bag and brings it over to Marak saying "This bag hold many many things Ali think. It Good Good! But Ali no have many many things and you have lots 'n lots of preachy things, yes yes? So Ali say you have it."
When Romon comes up to the small Gnome with the boots in hand and and says to her "Ali, I think you may like these" she gives him a small smile and says "Ali have boots a'ready. Hmmm, but they do be magicky so, ok!" Trying them on, Ali is first amazed when they wondrously shrink to fit her tiny feet "ooooh!" Then, as she walks around trying them out she realizes that her steps can hardly be heard at all "Oooooh! These be sneaky shoes! Yes Yes!" and runs to give Romon a big hug.
For some time after, Ali delights herself by sneaking up on her friends, tapping them on the shoulder and yelling "Boo!"
Oh, and sorry for the slight action jack M & R. Hope you don't mind! And Wellard, I do realize that in PF the boots give a bonus to All Acro checks, it was just fun to write it that way ;-)

Kallie, waiting in the glassworks and outside the tunnels for her friends to finish their business let out a banshee's scream the first time Ali decided to test her newfound boots on her. She threw white flame in every which direction to no effect, though a few of those hit may have felt slight headaches, toothaches, and back pains disappear.

Afternoon of the First Annual Sinspawn Day:
Romon comes up from the caves slightly ahead of the rest of the party and spies Kallie waiting at the glassworks. A wide smile spreads across his face. "Kaliciel, I am glad to see you. A quiet word, please." He draws her aside. "I normally travel light, and this suit of leathers and the black clothes I wore last night are all I have. Both --" ~brushes off a bit of gore~ " are somewhat the worse for wear. Where can I find a haberdashery?"
Evening of First Annual Sinspawn Day:
Romon waits for Muchorak in the dining room. Occasionally the waiting is too much and Romon jumps to his feet and patrols the public areas of the inn. When he spots the big Shoanti, he pulls him aside for a brief chat. "Muchorak, I have a small problem. My leathers are starting to look a little rough. You look like a man used to caring for his gear in the field. What do you suggest for cleaning them up? Back in Magnimar I'd use a mixture of 'the finest mink oil with seven preservative spices' that a friend of mine sells, but I am all out. I'd appreciate your expertise."
(Romon really has no clue about how to take care of leather armour, he's guessing based on the sales pitch of a Magnimarian bootblack. He's also trying to butter Muchorak up.)
Fireday:
Romon dresses himself in his red leather armour, cleaned as thoroughly as possible, hopefully with help and advice from Muchorak. After a quick breakfast he seeks out one of the quiet men, Inikai or Marak, with whom to stroll the fair. He's hoping that their notoriety will attract some girls, who he can then charm.
With everyone's concurrence, I propose to post both days concurrently.

Muchorak looks at civilized man, grins, "Of course, don't get hit." Testing the mans humor, Muchorak goes on to explain some simple cleaning techniques for leather, then quickly adds, "If the leather has been cut severly enough I would suggest hunting for a new set. Though they can take many days, you might be just better off purchasing one."

Romon looks lost for a second then grins too, nodding his head. "Riiight." He hadn't expected a joke from the warrior. He listens carefully to Muchorak's instructions and thanks him profusely.
He leaves quite happy with the encounter. He didn't think I was a total idiot, and was really helpful. The barbarian is all right. Borrows a robe from the inn and goes back up to his room where he sends his black suit out for cleaning and drying and spends the evening scraping and washing up his leather armour. He plans to paint the market red tomorrow.
Inikai
Inikai is happy to accompany Romon if he wants. It is nice to talk with someone who has recent news of Magnimar. Of course he understands if Romon wishes to fade into the background near certain people.
When the merchants arrive he asks about happenings in back in the city and anything that happened on their journey here. Even rumors hold his interest.
Inikai will purchase potions of mage armor, eagle's splendor and protection from arrowsalong with two vials of harpy musk.

Romon is happy to talk about Magnimar. He and Inikai play "Do you know ... " for a while. Romon knows most of the major landmarks, eateries, brothels, crime figures, and a fair portion of the city guard. He doesn't know much about the government, except the judicial system, the temples, or the hoi poloi of society. The rogue also inquires about where he might get some arrows and other gear. (a continual torch rod)
While walking the market, Romon keeps an eye out for marks, sizing up approaches, lifts, and escape routes, but doesn't act on any of it. One of Cearnis' dictums was always look out for the next job.
Another was don't try risky work if you're flush.
Inikai's queries about potions get Romon thinking. He asks how they work and what other potions might be useful.

Have we set out about dividing up the loot?
Mostly handled it in the OOC thread. ALi has posted a little about it above. I think we left you the MW ranseur. Seriously, I don't think anything is written in stone yet. We all kind of assumed you'd be for the longsword.

The Market bustles each merchant vieing with his competitors to atttract buyers to his stall. The Magic Peddlar has a number of potions and Inakai has no problems obtaining the ones he wants.
The Peddlar has 2 Healing belts in stock
Everflaming torches, tanglefoot bags and sunrods are available in small quantities(2,4 and 3 respectively)
The news from Magnimar is much the same as always the city Magnates continue to make healthy profits and the commoners pay for their life style...but you have heard the complaints of merchants before.
Marak Quan
|
Marak will pick up a healing belt and the darkwood shield mentioned in the OOC thread. If he's got the incense of meditation, he'll determine that it won't sell for but a fraction of it's worth, and save it to sell in a larger city, later.
Marak walks with purpose, hand on his coin, until he acquires two of the three items he's been looking for, and verifies that the mithral shirt is not available. He brusquely ignores anyone hawking anything else and leaves as soon as his purchases are complete.
He'll spend what remains of the day cleaning his gear and inventorying his items in preparation for the next days raid on Thistletop, and then examining some of the Thassilonian scripts that he wrote down earlier in the privacy of his room, coming down for evening meal.

Kallie's eyes widened at Romon's question about a local tailor. She had nearly forgotten... "Oh yes, we do! I can show you...hold on...."
She glanced about, looking for Ali. When she found her, she leaned forward, smiling and asking, "Ali, remember that promise I made you? Are you ready to get some new clothes?"
Turning back to Romon, she apologized for the interruption. "Sorry, just remembered something. I actually have business there as well, so it's no problem if you want to come along."
At the market:
Kallie picked through the merchant's wares, looking for any interesting books or potions that caught her eye. I don't have the Beta book on me at the moment...

At least it won't go bad.

The place you are looking for is Vernahs Fine Clothing which acts as headquarters for a local conglomerate of tailors weavers and other craftspersons in what almost amounts to a guild.
The shop is owned by Rynshinn Povalli an incredibly beautiful half elven woman who is Vernah's daughter. Vernah herself was one of Choppers victims. Rynshinn is acknowledged as the most beautiful woman for miles around(yes she is prettier than Kallie...do I see green eyes flashing).

Romon holds the door and ushers Kallie and Ali into Vernah's. He eyes the shop and its wares critically, but finds very little to dissuade him that it is not the equal of the shops (he's familiar with) in Magnimar. "Ahhh. Kallie, you were right. This is the idea place."
"Madame Povalli, I'm so pleased to make your acquaintance." Romon bows low and if permitted will take her hand and kiss it. "My friend Kaliciel assures me yoiu have the finest shop for miles around ..."
This is close to Romon's idea of heaven: surrounded by beautiful women and fine things. For the next hour or so he endeavours to make Ali, Kallie, and Rynshinn each feel as if they are the most beautiful creature around. He encourages the gnome and sorceress to try on a wide range of clothing, from beautiful to whimisical, to funny. He is always complimentary to the ladies no matter what they are wearing, but is often critical of the exact cut of the clothes. While the girls are changing he negotiates three suits of flamboyant clothing for himself, one to be ready for market day (he's willing to pay double if they can be done overnight and delivered by dawn Fireday.)
All the time he flirts as much as he can get away with each woman, but especially Kallie and Rynshinn.
Finally he insists on buying Kallie and Ali custom made gowns "to the latest fashions of Magnimar." Using existing gowns as models, he shows Madame Povalli, " Lower here... no farther -- that's it. Perfect. And higher here, with a curving line of lace, double slashed sleeves, and a long slit on this side...." He is especially firm with Kallie, "No, exhale first. Now let me tighten this up. -- Straighten up. Posture control is very important to look your best. Now exhale again. Hold it. Now take her measurements, Madame. You look beautiful. Every man in town will stare when you where this. "
If you've read Romon's background you can probably guess his idea of high fashion.
DM Wellard wrote:(yes she is prettier than Kallie...do I see green eyes flashing)Oh you evil DM. You are gonna get my boy into so much trouble.
While we're on the subject of beautiful women, how's Shalelu in the Charisma department?
Kaliciel
I think I'm just going to pick up a potion of eagle's splendor, just in case
(yes she is prettier than Kallie...do I see green eyes flashing).
Maybe if she was "goth", then the claws would come out! No one pushes in on the Black Witch's territory! :)
Kallie smiled excitedly at Vernah as she entered. She had often been a little envious of the tailor's beauty, but did not seriously consider her any sort of competition. After all, she didn't even wear black.
She tried to keep her hands from shaking with anticipation, but she couldn't keep from grinning like a giddy schoolgirl. "Vernah! I've got a big order to place and a lot of money to burn!" She rushed to the counter, looking for anything to write with and to draw on. Assuming Vernah has any to spare: Kallie looked back at Ali and winked, trying to get her excitement under control. "I'm going to need two full outfits made," she whispered. "One for me and one for her. Do you have a lot of black and green to work with?" She paused for a second before turning back to Ali. "Ali, you like trees, right? What color is your favorite on leaves? Green, brown, red...something else? And oh, yes, Romon, show her around!" Kallie will be joining in soon enough.
She turned back to Vernah, whispering loudly. "I'm helping her out. She was raised by wolves out in the wild. I think. She's never had a dress before, so we're picking up some clothes for her today. But this order is going to be more for travel. It needs to be sturdy enough for that. And I guess it should be able to fit over or in the armor she's wearing now." She eyed the gnome's old gear critically. "Probably over. Here, I'll draw it as well as I can...can you make this work?"
Spoilered for space
"Oh...and this is for me..." She furiously went to work again, drawing up a figure too tall and full of figure to actually be Kallie. She frequently erased bits and mumbled to herself. "No...no ram's horns yet....that's too much...have to work up to that....maybe I can get a skullcap made later....oh gods, and made of silver!....too much skin....not enough....(Wisdom Check: Natural 1)...yeah needs more, and heels!"
Spoilered for space
Well, it depended a bit on the Wisdom check...
Kallie's trying to design a travelling outfit for herself as well, something sturdier than her dresses but more majestic as well: A long black dress with the skirt cut down the sides and a V-cut top that as drawn is too big for her(she's drawing as if she's a Seoni when she's barely a Merisiel ;)) with long sleeves fitting into black, fore-arm length gloves. The dress is topped with a black silk coif: The face opening comes down to a point above her nose with a purple gemstone set in the forehead, and is cut in the lower back to let her hair out. There's also a black silk belt, and black calf-length boots drawn with heels.(hopefully Vernah will catch that and realize the problem there...) Lots of black and silver going on. :)
Her fingers and wrist ached after her frantic sketching was done, but she was still smiling. "You can make these work, right?" The art of making clothing seemed like a sort of magic at the time. She assumed Vernah simply could make her mad designs reality.
She later let herself be drawn into Romon's display. She was pleased that Romon was apparently taken with the wares available. It was a bit of a relief to know that the man from the city could see that Sandpoint wasn't just some hayseed backwater town. Still, she frowned intensely whenever it was suggested she try something overly bright and cheery. She did obey the instructions on posture from both Romon and Vernah however, fearful that being too lax at this moment could ruin her order.
"Ali, have you seen anything you like?" She was enjoying the outing. The strange omens hanging over her head were put out of her mind, if only for the moment.
Alisebett
No, wow! That's fantastic Val! Thanks! =D
Ali's eyes go wide in amazement as she sees more dresses and items of clothing then she knew existed in the whole world. And so many colours! It was like...it was like "Ali feel like it leaf fall time and she in beautiful forest! So many colours!" she gushes, twirling around trying to see everything all at once.
At the sight of the stunning seamstress Ali is at first a bit taken aback and shy of her own appearance (she still has really no concept of her own beauty) yet quite quickly her sense of fierce loyalty kicks in and she sniffs at the woman and says in an aside to her friend "Hmm, she pretty, but she no pretty like Kallie"
Somewhat confused and unsure of the process at first Ali nevertheless becomes involved wholeheartedly enjoying the whirlwind of attention and activity. The first time she is asked to change her clothes, having no sense whatsoever of society's strange nudity taboos, she does so right in the middle of the store, likely giving the other ladies present a shock and Romon a small thrill (although she is short and acts like a young girl sometimes, she is, indeed a woman)
(If explained to her that she shouldn't do that she will gaze in blank confusion but will go along just to make her friends happy)
When asked about whether she prefers green or brown or oraange or...she will say "Yes yes! Ali like them! Yes yes Ali like them all!" (she has no 'fashion sense' whatsoever and would prefer ALL the colours, in whatever pattern to be a part of her outfit, but perhaps to be kind on the eyes of her traveling companions something combing the greens, browns and burnt amber could be arranged ;-)
She Does Not, however like the suffocating outfits Romon tries to get her in and after the first attempt she snaps at him and all give up realizing the task to be impossible.
Overall though she is incredibly happy and has one of the best days of her life....

Seeing Ali start to strip right in the store, Romon behaves like a "proper" gentleman. His hat comes off and shades his eyes just enough so that it looks like he can't see. He starts to speak, "Ali -- " but decides to leave explanations to Rynshinn and Kallie.
She Does Not, however like the suffocating outfits Romon tries to get her in and after the first attempt she snaps at him and all give up realizing the task to be impossible.
Romon is quick to yield to Ali's judgement in this matter. He'd much rather keep his fingers. "Rynshinn, maybe you could run up something more to her taste in this russet fabric, perhaps with fawn trim?"

At last, clothes tried and designed, and accounts settled with Rynshinn, it is time to go. Upon leaving the shop, he suggests to Kallie and Ali: (and Wellard)

Kallie..this is Rynshinn you're talking to not Vernah..as I mentioned above Vernah was, unfortunately, one of Choppers victims
Rynshinn is to begin with slightly taken aback by the speed at which the orders are coming in(and vey taken aback by Ali..like most are on first close contact) but then settles down into business mode as Romon explains his needs.
She's amused more than shocked when Ali strips down in the middle of the shop and helps Kallie gently guide her towards the cutained off area designed to protect her customers modesty.
Romons order for suits is accepted but it will be 7 to 10 days before they are ready and off course he will have to come in to have them fitted.
Kallies Designs for Ali are met with approval and a suggestion here and there.
It's her designs for herself that meet with a shaking of the pretty half elfs head
"Totally impractical" are her first words then she goes on to forestall any protests Kallie might voice. "It's too long by about 4 inches, that coif is just asking to slip over your eyes at a crucial moment and those boots are going to trip you up in rough ground not to mention be incredibly painful on a long march, besides you are quite tall enough without them"..she makes some swift sketches of her own showing her version of the dress(which includes a much more realistic bustline. "And full length tight fitting gloves?..I always thought that wizards needed freedom of movement for their hands. However you are the customer and I will abide by your decisions" Her tone leaves the 'however crazy they might be' part hanging. She takes Kallies measurements with a brisk efficiency.
Once Romon begins to try and inveigle the girls into more revealing costumes her face sets like stone. It's quite clear she does not approve of the younger half elfs antics.
Half way through the 'fitting' A short and extremly busty blonde human woman enters the shop (think Dolly Parton and you won't be far off the mark guys)
