Depends what you want to do. Do you want to be able to cast a LOT of spells? The HP shouldn't matter that much as you had best stay back from combat and let your furry friends do the fighting. Might even look at taking the skill point...

Darn not taking local and history as skills, or did I use one as a favored class?? Not sure how this works...do I just roll each morning for all checks to see what happens?


Untrained

You cannot make an untrained Knowledge check with a DC higher than 10. If you have access to an extensive library that covers a specific skill, this limit is removed. The time to make checks using a library, however, increases to 1d4 hours. Particularly complete libraries might even grant a bonus on Knowledge checks in the fields that they cover.

So getting access to the libraries is critical to:

1. Be able to make checks at all (you get to check for Whispering Way [arcana/religion checks] because you have access to the Professor's study.)

2. Be able to make DC 25 checks (would need a 20 to do with a +5 ability score modifier and access to a library).

Each of you can make 1 check per category per day and add in the modifiers as you reach them. I'm having Jon/Clint RP the Town Hall for flavor and to increase their chances to persuade the town to let you use the library (will need a DC 25 diplomacy). If you read my Alamin spoiler I just had her make diplomacy rolls to see how many days attempt it took to persuade the clergy. Other "stuff" will be happening while you research and try to figure out what is going on and you can build Trust Points with the town's citizens as events unfold.


In theory when you have enough +s to your check you will be able to start taking 20, but that will still take a few days research for each subject.

Taking 20

When you have plenty of time, you are faced with no threats or distractions, and the skill being attempted carries no penalties for failure, you can take 20. In other words, if you a d20 roll enough times, eventually you will get a 20. Instead of rolling 1d20 for the skill check, just calculate your result as if you had rolled a 20.

Taking 20 means you are trying until you get it right, and it assumes that you fail many times before succeeding. Taking 20 takes 20 times as long as making a single check would take (usually 2 minutes for a skill that takes 1 round or less to perform).

Since taking 20 assumes that your character will fail many times before succeeding, your character would automatically incur any penalties for failure before he or she could complete the task (hence why it is generally not allowed with skills that carry such penalties). Common “take 20” skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps).

So each day I get to try a knowledge check. But I cannot roll a local check? But the other three yes? Do I roll each morning and wait for information or do I wait for you to tell me to roll?


So think of it like you are Stephen Hawkins. You are REALLY smart, but if you never sutdied and learned anything about 15th century French poetry, you are just not going to know very much on that subject (over DC 10). That's why the knowledge sets are locked out unless you have library access for research (you do, yeah!).

So the first day YOU can make a knowledge check on the Whispering Way (+2 for the library and + your INT mod) because you studied the Professor's research. The party won't be able to get the +4 from the church until Day 4 and each person that is researching there (can be multiple people), can only research 1 of the 3 topics: Harrowstone, prisoners, Whispering Way.

I gave you a local check about Harrowstone (the spoiler post to you) based on your RP and background figuring that you had heavy correspondance with the Professor and were a student and that you would know a fair amount about where the Professor lived.

Saves-help/kill all characters...just like last time. Constant poisoning... At some point u lose save roll( because pluses are low) and abilities. Takes days to get them back.
Survival very difficult for regular character. Maybe every character should boost up their save value. Not that easy though.

No problem once I take my second level in Paladin (2 more levels!). Then I get divine grace and in addition to the killer saves of the Paly I get to add my CHA bonus (+3) to all saves. Then bring on the poison et. al.!

I tend to do this based on the situation. In this case I imagine you will be opening the sarcophagus shortly so why bother playing out the detect magic?
