I was interpreting "your personal rune or mark" as a rune or mark of my personal design, up to six characters, not as a fixed logo that can never change. I can see how that could be interpreted the other way, though. If you want to retcon that not happening, I'm fine with that.
If it is a fixed logo, I guess it would be "Elen", but each letter is from a different alphabet.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

I didn't know what the word meant, so I googled it.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

Samen is a linguist, so he would know obscure ones.

Hubristic Efreeti |

I PM'd with Samen a bit, and we came to the agreement that he's narratively stuck at refusing the call to adventure. This was a very well-played low charisma character, but he's just too out of sync with the tone and "let's see what's out there" expectations of the rest of the party.
So for now, just let Samen go on his way, and anyone who has it can make a knowledge geography check.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

Best of luck to you all. I'm sad to be leaving, but Samen's dissent was dragging things down, I guess.

Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |

Just to be clear, are you leaving @Samen? If that is the case, I think we should try and figure something else out. I don’t like him effectively being punished for making a character with depth and then role playing that character well. If you guys have exhausted all options for keeping Samen here, maybe a new character could join us in Forge? I know you liked the idea of a family game, but I don’t like the idea of Samen being forced out by his own role playing.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

I would like to, but that's up to the GM. I'm ultimately responsible for Samen's actions, so if he's not fitting with the group, it means that on some level I may not be the right fit for this group.
If you're willing to give me another shot with a different character in Forge, I'd be grateful for the opportunity, but I understand if not.

Hubristic Efreeti |

I appreciate role playing, but when I look back at the log and the last month has been insulting, complaining, and dragging at every step toward resolution, it becomes more like work than fun. I honestly can't point to a single one of Samen's posts that failed to be decisively negative in tone, and Samen straight up decided "I don't choose my family when put on the spot".
I simply don't know what to do with that. Perhaps it is my shortcomings that make me unable to see a way past it. It was one of the reasons I chose a family game, so presumably there will be some level of loyalty among the PCs when things get tough.
Thoughts? This is a collaborative environment at the end of the day, so if I'm the only one with misgivings about Samen's (the character's) attitude, then we can keep on the same way we have.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

I take a little umbrage at the analysis saying he's been overly negative.
In the two days of the campaign so far: He's been through a funeral, been kicked out of his home, teleported away involuntarily, attacked by darkspawn, told he's being chased by an unknown force, exhausted himself on a forced march into the night, attacked in his sleep, yelled at by his family (which he admittedly deserved), had the life nearly sucked out of him, and then given an ultimatum by the same agent that showed up when the problems started.
If I have seemed a little negative, I would put forward there hasn't been a lot to be positive about.

Hubristic Efreeti |

Fair enough - it is in the eye of the beholder. Like I said, collaborative environment. So far it sounds like Marianne hasn't had a problem with it. If Wamblee and Samoon are on board with Samen's personality, then all I can do is apologize for being overly sensitive and move on. This is with the caveat that inter-party conflict and decision making is ultimately up to the four of you - you could follow Samen and throw your items on the ground and just head back home if you wanted to, or come up with a different direction as a group.

Samen Vloe Firenze |

I would like to continue, and I would like Samen to get into the adventure, but I'm having a hard time understanding why a small-town bumpkin who was comfortable in his life would be okay with what's going on with no explanation.
He would buy in to protect his family, which to him means handing over the items to the antagonist, but that was turned down strongly. If there was a known compelling reason why any of this was happening, he would be curious of what its implications are for how the races are built. He tried to explore that with the woodcut and got immediately punished.
I could just go "okay, sure" and be on board, but I don't know where I would go from there.

Samoon Firenze |

This is a case of “what would my character do” versus “what does the narrative require.” It’s the downfall of many a paladin. Narrative has to win unless you’re in a very modern play.

Samoon Firenze |

If Samen takes a Eustace Scrubb type arc, there should be some curvature to the arc.
My 0.02$. It’s not easy playing disagreeable players unless they are hiding a vulnerability that is then revealed.

Hubristic Efreeti |

Alright, I know Wamblee hasn't responded in the last few days, so I don't necessarily want to put the whole game on hold figuring this out.
First, an apology from me for creating the drama - I wasn't sure how to broach the subject in Discussion without making it seem like "let's all say what we don't like about Samen!" I thought that some kind of "you need to hang with us or we will all hang separately" moment might work and it obviously didn't.
Samen, you obviously want to play, and I'd love to have you stay, so here's a suggestion for a compromise: If the secrecy is bugging you/Samen so much, Uncle sees he's been driving you away and will be more forthcoming. However, I need just a little bit less friction from Samen - he can still be prickly, but ultimately Wolverine goes with the X-men, he doesn't side with Magneto to be contrary or go home and smoke cigars. Fair enough?

Samen Vloe Firenze |

Fair enough. I, also, am sorry to have caused such drama.

And finally, to kick off the week - as you fiddle with or ignore your heirlooms, eventually something happens to all of you. Check your spoiler for more. I'd like you to choose when it happens (or choose that it doesn't happen yet) and what it looks like.
If you choose to do this, take 2 con damage as your bones becomes hollow and light. You now have fly 30 ft, as in your Air Aspect ability (you can tell this is temporary, not permanent)
After exiting the cave, at some point you feel much more connected to the earth and root training than you have ever been. You now have DR 1/adamantine
As the next stanza reveals itself, you almost feel the presence of Zephyr. The wind that surrounds you speaks, for just a moment, a word you cannot name. It has become more of a living thing around you.
Once per day, you can call on it to aid you. Uses:
1) For a free action, all your ranged attacks for one round are considered magical +1 (or +1 higher if already enchanted)
It seems that your cross-staff has awakened the other objects; it was in that strange light, so weak and white, that your heirloom made that seemed to activate the others. As yet, you can't find any other effects. The analytical part of your mind tells you that being in a cave of slag might be dampening or preventing its other functions.

I think Wamblee said he wasn't going to be able to post up through the 5th.

Wamblee Firenze |

Hello all! I'm looking at 48 posts in the gameplay thread to catch up on. ;)
As a player, I'm fine with Samen's attitude and the roleplaying. Not everyone is going to react gracefully under stress or strange and dangerous events. Families don't always get along. That said, I'm glad that Samen looks to be sticking around.
I hope to post before bed, otherwise I'll try to post before too long tomorrow.

This is quite a memorable setting from what I've seen of it so far.
Good work!

I was hoping for the most socially awkward moment to make this happen, and this seemed like as good of a chance as I was going to get :D.

Just so everyone knows the current family:
Eldest Uncle: ?
Uncle Howie (Howahkan): with you
Father, Hotah Firenze (formerly Cedar Smoke, in the east)
Mother, Colleen Firenze
Maternal Grandmother, Muireann Baking (lives somewhat outside of Rokerenge, maybe one town over)
I'll also put this at the beginning of the Timeline (that's where I put general relationships like this usually)

Hubristic Efreeti |

And if you don't have knowledge local, you could use Diplomacy to ask someone where to find an inn, or a mapmaker. It's getting into the evening, and it's getting a little tougher to find elen on the street. In fact, some of you recall there being a curfew of some kind, but you don't remember the details.

Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |

I’ll wait for others to roll Knowledge Local, but Marianne will ask (someone who isn’t an ifrit) for directions if they fail.

Wamblee Firenze |

Wamblee has no knowledge geography or local. He can try diplomacy...

Hubristic Efreeti |

Samen Vloe Firenze |

That's good to know. I hadn't gotten around to marking it on my sheet, so I'm glad procrastination wins again!

You mean efficiency. ;)

The Rentwyrth family is the other sylph family in Rokerenge. The head of the family, Finnegan, owns several buildings in town, and has a strong co-ownership in the mines, as well.
Other members of the family:
Aria Rentwyrth, Finnegan's ifrit wife
Albreane, Samoon's former lover (now Spelunk)
Joseph, Marianne's former lover (now Cheme)
Krissa, Samen's friend (still in town)
