Duly noted!

Samoon - I mentioned that Rentwyrth is Albrane's father earlier in Discussion. We all make mistakes, and I know there is a ridiculous amount of info to keep track of.
The weekend is a low time anyway, so let me know if you prefer A) Samoon is being sarcastic, or B) feel free to post a retcon knowing that Rentwyrth is her father.
Hubristic Efreeti |
Re: Albreane - not married, just decided not to have the Rentwyrth name anymore. Sylph surnames are strange that way. She could have decided to keep her family name like Samoon did, but both her and Joseph have apparently decided not to (Joseph is Joseph Cheme)
This also makes me think about how the different ways each race has for showing marriage:
--Ifrit: rings
--Sylph: colorful stud in left ear, worn in upper part of ear
--Oread: tattoos or embedded gems, depending on tribe
--Undine: Distinctive braid or braids woven into hair
Albreane has no such stud, but you are still free to ask about her love life :)

I should also be available. And the marriage notes are interesting.
Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |
I take it that ring are common in other races as well? I’m referring to the whole thing with ifrits being the dominant culture, seemed like something people might imitate. There’s a word for it, when an “invading” culture sort of blots out others, but I don’t remember it.
As for being gone over the weekend, I usually just post from my phone in spare moments if I’m busy, I’ll be available even if I am otherwise busy.
Wamblee Firenze |
@Marianne: Are you thinking of a superstratum / superstrate?
And I can easily imagine Ifrit culture becoming dominant, given that their society offers more opportunity for individuals from the other elen cultures. Ifrit being a lingua franca is *useful*, even at the cost of learning other languages.
Hubristic Efreeti |
I could imagine doing a campaign set in the farther future where the ifrits, under the guise of "uniting all elen" in the fight against the Dark, turned their armies north and south and conquered big parts of the undine and oread lands. They would never take over the North Tribe or Icefall, but if the campaign took place in that 3/4 of the world where ifrits ruled, then there would be no common, just Ifrit.
Of course I already have ideas about campaigns set in the first and second ages, so I'm set for campaign timelines for a while...
Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |
Don’t tell us if you consider it a spoiler, but would each campaign be a diversion from the timeline, or have the events of that campaign have already happened in campaigns set ahead of them? In other words, are the heroes already part of history and players sort of fill the “roles”, or does history run as if nobody had been on the position of the players?
Wamblee Firenze |
An excellent question!
Hubristic Efreeti |
Let's see here...
My first campaign in this setting was play-by-email, and that started around the same time in-game time (same year) as this table. That original one is unequivocally a different time line :)
For my first two tables on here (one of which is still running), I kind of assumed they would be separate, but they were both located in Hearth at the same time on the calendar, and I eventually decided it would be more fun if they met. So they did end up influencing each other.
I haven't run any campaigns in the earlier parts of history, so nothing is really set in stone there. I have broad ideas about the wars etc that occurred, but I'm keeping it general in case I do decide to run a campaign in the "past" some time.

Interesting to know!

Two large green pogonas pull the long, utilitarian wagon. The wood of the wagon is sturdy-looking, with no decorations of any kind.
So as the wagon is leaving town and as you are traveling long-term, where is everyone at? Mother and Uncle are inside the covered wagon. Albreane is driving. The wagon is large enough to fit the whole family without much crowding. There are two hammocks near the front of the boxy wagon.
For most of you, the seating will consist of: a few boxes, straps, and chains that are attached to certain points of the interior, which normally helps with tying down equipment. Throw down your cloaks, buckle down, and it would be a boring and mildly uncomfortable trip.
OR, let me know if you have a different plan. You are out of Forge - what do you do now?
Wamblee Firenze |
What distance are we expecting again? I can't recall if it was specified.
Hubristic Efreeti |
The distance from Rokerenge to Forge by road is about 25 miles. You made it on foot in a little over a day (traveling afternoon of the first day and most of the second day)
It's late afternoon now, so your options are:
a) find a place or area to stop for the night
b) travel through the night
Wagons only travel 16 miles per day. You'll definitely get there tomorrow if you go all night. If you rest, then it'll be past dim when you do roll into town (maybe even pushing midnight, depending on any obstacles encountered)
Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |
Sorry if I missed it, but what do pogonas look like?
Marianne is outside the carriage if at all possible, watching the area with her bow in hand. She’d be in favor of taking their time, reasoning that they will be on the road long enough for Erret to catch them if he wishes regardless.

Wamblee is also keeping an eye out. He has shruiken and eyes.
Hubristic Efreeti |
Good question - I think it's one of those things I forget to explain the first time (like dim and bright).
Pogonas are bearded lizards, but approximately horse-sized. They are not nearly as tall as horses - they are flat and long. They can typically pull for longer periods of time, but are slightly slower than horses (so their land speed is pretty much the same)
Pogonas are the beast of burden for all ifrit commerce in the cities and their surrounding towns. Undine use iceboats for their travel, oreads either go by foot or use earth elementals of one shape or another. Sylphs use pogonas.
Wamblee Firenze |
Wamblee has no objection to any of that.
Wamblee Firenze |
Let's see where it goes. :)
Hubristic Efreeti |
Hubristic Efreeti |
The town is essentially defined by 'the line', the only real road. Most of the bigger businesses are here, with family businesses being run out of residences off to the north.
The Mayor's Mansion is up on a hill, and the hills gets steeper as you go east. The Mansion is situated on the foothills of some of the richer mines.
One note about 'brass': brass is mined here. In this setting 'brass' is not an alloy, but a different metal altogether. Lightweight but not particularly strong, it is best suited to scientific endeavors: gears, clockwork, medical instruments, etc.
Samoon Firenze |
Where do the Firenzes live? :) I always pictured it nestled in the hills, for good escaping to take walks. (Ok, I basically pictured Joshua Tree)
Marianne Fletcher-Firenze |
Sorry for not posting recently, I can’t come up with anything to add to the conversation, and I’m in the habit of just moving to something else in that case.
Wamblee Firenze |
I'll be away this weekend, just so you know.

Re: fire bombs
There's a reflex save for half damage, but nothing in the description seems to say there is a potential to catch on fire. I've always went with the assumption that an effect does not start fires unless it specifically says so (like certain spells)
I've never played an alchemist before, so I might have missed it - let me know if you find a spot where it mentions it!
Samoon Firenze |
Yeah, I haven't either. As a bomb is probably 'instantaneous', I don't think it catches things on fire. Would be bothersome on a ship anyhow.
There is a wee bit of ifrit in Samoon, somewhere...or is that Albreane? :D
Wamblee Firenze |
@Samoon: Well, we do have an Ifrit grandmother!
@GM: I suggest placing a link to the map in the same text area at the top of the page as this line:
Darkness surrounds the land where the peoples of Volcano, River, and Forest live under a Fallen Sky.
It would mean that we can all quickly click through to the map.
