Winged creatures typically fall under the purview of Sky, so this is very likely a "hybrid" (for lack of a better term) of Volcano and Sky, partially belonging to both.
So roughly speaking, Samoon tells Samen to get Rentwyrth, Samen cracks his knuckles, and combat begins. Marianne, you can keep your previous post as a free action. If you are not acting right away, please post that you are delaying so I know to bring in the footsteps from the hall.
Sorry, missed this. Marianne was threatening Rentwyrth with the serious intention of carrying through if she didn't like his answer, but wasn't going to attack immediately. She would have fired if she won initiative over Rentwyrth, but I assume that he got under the desk before she could, especially with such clear warning as she gave, so she is turning to what she assumes is hired muscle of some sort... it's not (five minutes of finding the right spelling later) Pugliesi, is it? That would be a plot twist.
Yep, PbP surprise rounds etc can be a little weird, but Rentwyrth was definitely readying his own action, so since everyone was "aware" at the beginning it kind of all happened at the same time with Rentwyrth just barely sliding under the desk first.
Wamblee, since you have combat reflexes, you get AoO even before you act. With that in mind, I don't think you can do trips as AoO (and you haven't had a chance to draw your weapon yet), but I will treat your rolls like unarmed attacks. They both hit, assuming your bonuses would be roughly the same. Roll some damage for that when you get a chance please - two separate els provoked for you.
It's technically round 2 now, but I wanted to give Samoon an opportunity to react. So all of you are free to post your RP reactions to what just happened, but Samoon still has the only action left this round.
I'll bot if I don't hear back by tomorrow night. Once Samoon acts, the rest of you are free to post for round 2.
(oh, and I rolled Wamblee's AoO damage, so never mind that earlier post)
So for Marianne to keep her advantage in terms of being close to the remaining enemy, she can't wait for the others to catch up. So Marianne:
--Are you chasing with the intent to slow him down in some way?
--Are you waiting for a good shot with your arrow?
etc
As for the rest of you:
--Are you taking Samen's advice and getting out of the house right away?
--Checking anything before you leave?
--Trying to keep up with Marianne?
etc
So, there are multiple things to decide and no clear consensus yet:
--Leaving town right now?
--Going through Rentwyrth's papers before the Watch arrives?
--Calling the Watch yourselves?
--Addressing the fact you now have Father's key?
--Mother is still sick and at the doc's
Not too much time has passed due to dialogue yet, but keep in mind there is a dead/dying mercenary in plain view of the house, and the morning is getting later.
I want to give everyone one last chance to chime in, and I'll plan on updating tonight (if everyone has had their say) or tomorrow night (even if some have not responded)
And I don't know if I've ever spelled this out, but I'm fine with splitting the party. Seems like we have two very different views being supported by exactly half of you. So if you are either:
Leaving town by the fastest route, say so
Going to the Watch, say so
Sticking around Rentwyrth's, say so
Going to the bank to use Hotah's key, say so
etc
And we'll go from there!
(or work it out amongst yourselves, that's ok too!)
Just so we are all clear - Samen has assured me he is not trying to leave the campaign, but acting on what his character would do (unsettled by the murder he just committed, anxious about the consequences and talking to more elens)
(I strive to be clear on what's happening OOC when situations like this pop up)
Pbp is actually one decent format for party splits. There is still the issue of what can befall an isolated party member, but that's in world consequences.
@GM: Should Wamblee get dead here, which is quite possible given that he's already wounded, feel free to think up plot elements that a replacement character could draw to the attention of the party. I'm thinking a character with some sort of healing capability but unsure what exactly. A (bard) agent investigating a case or a dark-hunting junior Inquisitor perhaps?
I forgot about those potions too. Wamblee's still pretty beat even with a potion down. If GM is okay with this much retcon, Marianne probably would have handed hers off to him at some point.
How about I allow you to retcon your action instead - would you be willing to spend a full round administering it to Wamblee as soon as you recognized danger?
I should have made this more clear - the 2 guards have not acted yet for Round 2. They are hesitating, based on the current situation. Any/all of you can try out a social skill (bluff, intim, dip, etc) but any failures will count against you.
Oh yeah, I thought that they ran after Pugliesi did. Marianne would do something, but she's a bit too taken with Bree at the moment to remember those guys.
You are all level 3 now! You can make all your changes, just don't regain hit points or spells (or anything that would happen during a rest). As before, a short summary is appreciated.
Strength of Stone (Ex)
At 3rd level, a student of stone learns to draw strength from the earth. So long as both he and his opponent are touching the ground, the student of stone gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, bull rush and trip combat maneuver rolls, and to his CMD when resisting a bull rush or trip attempt.
elemental possession is a thing talked about as a certainty, back before the gods began slumbering. (more than a thousand years ago) it was usually benign, but occasionally more capricious spirits would stay too long or have ill effects upon their hosts.
real elementals have intelligence and personality- the mindless lumps of walking dirt or burning pillars that some think are 'elementals' are like animals to them.
given access to a library of some kind, you would be able to find out more.
