Duardlara Frostborn |
I believe Duardlara is within range of a sneak attack without moving. If she needs to move forward, she will, trusting that Helgash will be moving past her shortly.
Aforementioned acid splash touch attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Acid damage: 1d3 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (3, 3) = 9 Intense spells bonus, sneak attack
Helgash |
Helgash wades in to the forefront without hesitation - many threats and challenges cross his mind, but he chooses silence, not wanting to alert other possible foes - he swings hard with his bardiche.
Bardiche, Cold Iron, PA: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage if it hits: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Beck Tavis |
It's been hectic, prepping for a trip and dealing with some projects exploding... Beck would have Schillelagh cast to start this party
Git'im girl Beck orders Sheelah
The cat moves up and bites the Troll at it's bottom left corner
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Beck moves to the top left corner to try to angle for a flank
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
for 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 5 = 12
and swings hard with his Schillelagh.
DM Variel |
Wow, why weren't you guys rolling ilke this earlier... 1 round kill. Just don't do this tot he dragon please. Too anticlimactic.
In a sudden barrage of arrow, magic, blade, fang and club the ice troll collapses where it stands. Due to Duardlara's acid it is not regenerating but you don't think it is dead yet either.
1d20 ⇒ 16
Beck Tavis |
Check the door. D'lara? you mind makin sure he don't put his head back together? beck asks jsut before he brings his club crashing down on the helpless and dying troll, to finish him quick
Coup de Grace: 4d6 + 10 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 2) + 10 = 26 auto-crit
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara liberally applies acid splash to prevent the troll's regeneration until they are comfortable that it's completely dead. Presuming that Beck waits to apply the club until she's acidized the poor fellow.
Autocrit: 2d3 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara looks at Beck to see if he agrees that the deed is done before moving over to the south door and listening.
We should have asked the children how to identify the nasty troll. That would be useful information.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Helgash |
Helgash stands ready, whispering - "Is the door unlocked?"
DM Variel |
The door opens to the south...
A giant sized bed sits int he southwest corner of the this spacious room, and a large bear rug sprawls across the floor. Several small tables occupy the corners of the room along with a chest in the southeast corner. Behind in on the wall hangs a large mirror. In the doorway is the most vicious looking ice troll you have seen. (upgraded with a class level) I knew you would be back. I heard you this time and I am ready for you!
Beck 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 +1/2 level in cold
Helgash 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Jetro 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Duardlara 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Venja 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Group is up first and lucky for those in the front...
Venja |
Venja tosses one of her alchemist fires at the troll... hoping it's not got some protection from fire.
ranged touch to hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
dmg if hits: 1d6 ⇒ 2
dmg for next round: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Helgash |
"Step aside friends, this brute shall face me!" - Helgash roars.
Duardlara, best get out of his face :D
Delaying until after Duardlara and Beck, to see if I can attack unimpeded.
DM Variel |
Venja hits the troll with the fire causing a small piece of the ice to hiss and steam up. The troll looks up and glares but realizes that he can not get to her yet and that he must finish with these up starts in front first.
Jetro follows up with quick twangs of his bow. Two arrows fly at the troll and the first hits only because the quick reactions of the group caught the troll by surprise. The second arrow solidly hits continuing the streak of successful attacks from everyone.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Just peeking in - Duardlara has enchanted her bow, so that would be the weapon of choice if acid splash is not necessary to bypass his regeneration. I really appreciate the free use of Spring Attack since she's being botted, so I'm not complaining, just sharing for the next round.
Helgash |
"Now us" - Helgash roars, stepping to the side, keeping the distance between him and his opponent, and swinging through the now vacant spot left by Duardlara - "You certainly understand you are outmatched" - his eyes flare red - "We are not the innocent children you are used to terrorize"
Bardiche: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 4 = 30
Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Crit?: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 = 14
Additional Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Beck Tavis |
Sheelah slips to D'laras space and attempts to maul the troll
Bite: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 1 = 8
for 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Claw: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 1 = 11
for 1d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6
Claw: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 1 = 16
for 1d4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
Beck takes a heavy swing at the creature
Schillelagh: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
For 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 4 = 11
confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
For 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12
DM Variel |
Really, you guys do 58/61 points of damage to the troll in 1 round. Even If I wasn't doing group init the only person who would not have gone was Helgash and you still did massive damage.
The troll gets rocked severely hard by everyone to the point that he is almost ready to collapse. Only by his experiences thus far and his training was he able to remain standing. Knowing that his end is near as he is not able to regenerate from the fire damage he goes all out and targets the easy prey in front of him. I will add your coat to my collection kitty!
power attack claw 1 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 for 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
power attack claw 1 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22 for 1d4 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
if both hit then rend for 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
bite attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 for 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
No rend but Sheelah is still hit for 25 damage[/dice]
The troll manages to get 1 claw and a bite to land on the 'kitty' but it is not enough to bring Sheelah down. The troll pays for his actions as the last thing he remembers is a burning sensation as the fire finds its way to his lungs and drops him unconscious.
Being an ice troll takes 50% more from fire and had only 3 hp left. Big bad troll is out assuming you finish him off.
Combat over :([/ooc]
Venja |
While Jetro is skinning the troll, Venja casts detect magic and scans the room, collecting anything of value, magical or not.
Helgash |
Maybe there is some time to loot while you skin the troll?
DM Variel |
If one person Loots the troll, 2 people loot the chest, 1 checks the next door and 1 stands guard all of that can be done in 1 round. You will still have 9 minutes of time remaining on the spells. It is only if you are searching the room itself for hidden treasure or secret doors that you take a lot of time.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara moves to the chest, quickly searching it for traps before testing to see if it is locked.
Perception vs traps: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 1 = 26
If it appears to be trapped,
Disable Device: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
If it's locked, she asks the looter of the troll if they have found any keys.
Venja |
Venja keeps her detect magic active while waiting for 'Lara to open the chest.
DM Variel |
A quick search of the troll reveals a set of keys: 2 total of different styles. Nothing else is on the troll. However Duardlara unlocks the chest (no traps so used your roll for the unlock check) and opens it to a small treasure along with some magic items that Venja can see. 1064 gp in assorted coins, a +1 greatsword, a potion of spider climb, a potion of fly, a potion of resist fire (didn't have time to drink), a chime of opening with 3 charges remaining and a set of highly polished skulls (12 in all).
Venja |
"those will definitely be useful, especially that chime... "
DM Variel |
Bonepick's room contains little more than a bed and a footlocker. The bed, such as it is, is sized for a giant-soiled sheets and a flattened, lice-ridden pillow heaped atop a lumpy straw-filled sack. Assuming the search of the foot locker is done quickly...The footlocker contains a number of stolen children's toys, mostly broken. At the bottom of the chest, beneath all the toys, is a hand of the mage with a ring of protection +1 on it and a pouch containing 98 gp.
Duardlara Frostborn |
Duardlara gathers up the potions and hands the chime to Venja. "Anybody want a really big sword? Too big for me. Let's see - fly, spider climb, resist fire. We don't know yet who will get the most out of these. Shall I carry them until a strategy suggests a better user?"
I don't care, just trying to help move it along. I didn't go into Bonepick's, so I am unaware of what was found in there.
Duardlara Frostborn |
"Last time, there were trolls bunking in there," she indicates the west doors in the entry, "Should we not hit them while our enchantments continue to hold out?"
Venja |
"North was where the children were held before... I agree with 'Lara, that we should eliminate any threat from behind us before we go forward. If there are trolls in there, trying to take them while they are sleeping again sounds like a good idea. But then I'm no strategist... Helgash and Beck, what do you think?"
Helgash |
"I'll take that sword" - Helgash pipes in, taking an appreciative look at the massive blade - "I share Jetro's will to push forward, but leaving enemies behind us is too dangerous if it can at all be avoided - if they catch us in a vice at a bad moment, it may spell doom" - he nods grimly - "Let us make sure there are none able to do so?" - he nods at Jetro and his compoanions.
Helgash had a longsword +1 - I think that one is already accounted for in our loot? He won't claim it, and instead take the greatsword.
