GM:
Yes, he is. Is that a problem? That game is VERY slow. Despite playing it for months we are still in our first fight and haven't left for Harrowstone yet. Azure Zero is a fine DM but I think player interest is really lagging. AZ and I have spoken on this.
I will keep playing it as long as he is keen but I'm pretty sure it's gonna die soon...

Background:
Hania Ishihara makes her living gathering information. She studies those who she wishes to know about and then impersonates them. Infiltration is her specialty. If you need into a place unseen and undetected then she is the one you go to. She never kills those she impersonates.

When not working, her wanderlust takes her into places just to find out what she can learn, even if it means sneaking in as someone else just to satisfy her curiosity.

Hania grew up on the streets of the Admiral’s Fen in the city of Cassomir. Life was hard and many times she was caught sneaking food from merchants and was punished. Her foster human mother tried to take care of her but with working long hours meant Hania was on her own most of the time. She didn’t have many other friends as they didn’t like it when she learned how to look like them.

During one of her late night outings she snuck into a noble’s to see what if there was something small she could sell. What she didn’t know is that the house she was in was the home of a somewhat influential noble that had dealings with Tarik the Unclean, a half-orc who ran the Dog’s Teeth. A few guards had seen her enter and went to investigate. As she was sneaking around she stumbled on a meeting between the noble and one of his lackeys. Instantly she was accused of being a spy by the lackey and killed the noble and left. As she was leaving the guards arrived and tried to arrest her for the murder of the nobleman. She fled and eventually made her way out of the city.

As time went on she learned to use her shape changing ability better to get into other places. It was in this way she came to know Professor Petros Lorrimor; famed scholar or some such. Intrigued by her unique ability, he hired her to get information and items that ordinary folk could not obtain. As time went on she heard less and less from the Professor, and eventually stopped hearing from him at all.

When news of his death arrived she set out to pay her respects. That and he might have left something for her.

Vincent the Thunderous:

Where did Vincent first acquire his firearms? Did he get them from his adoptive family or somewhere else?

Spoiler:
He got them during his training in Alkenstar, then fixed/maintened his pistol during travel, and crafted some Ammo when needed (and he had time).

If Vincent is too much (because he is a gunslinger and/or because he has the budget of a level 2 character), I can always make something else.

I suppose Ghost and Lycanthrope are a no.

gm:
No one knows about his eidolon except for professor Lorrimar. If his family knew the truth about what he's been doing these last few months they would be terrified both for his safety and for what he had done. His family sent him to school to learn about nature and herbs to help increase their business and believe that he's travelling to collect new breeds of herbs and such in the wilderness. His whole family are regular people and like most in ustalav are quite superstitious so Sethis has only told him that he has begun learning the arcane arts, trying to explain to his parents that he has made a soul binding pact with an otherworldly entity that defies everything they know about nature and he has been trying to avoid visiting his family for that reason.

DM:
Justice is swift in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings and doubly so for traitors. Bjorn's father was executed on the spot. What was never confirmed, as far as Bjorn knows, was his guilt.

Ultimately I'm not sure of his guilt. Maybe he did it. Maybe he didn't. Maybe that whole tragedy was part of the jadwiga attack - some form of subtle mind control being used to turn the superstitious and wounded Ulfen against each other.

If you think that's an interesting plot point, I'll leave what really happened up to you. =P

GM:
Honestly, I think those questions would best be answered by you. I'd bet that there are probably a few parties interested in the shards, and Leon is probably aware of any that have been after them that his family has run into before, but he's only barely done with his squire-hood so he's probably not aware of anyone who is currently after them.

If he found out that a person or group was after a shard he'd send word to his family and try to track down the shard seekers and any information about the shard itself. basically, he'd call for reinforcements and try to do something heroic (and probably a little stupid).

GM:
I actually disagree, I think a necromancer would work in Carrion Crown. Even though he has an affinity for "death magic", he is still a very good person. In an RP sense, he still doesn't understand his gift or how it works or even the implications of it. He's kept most of it hidden except from some of his teachers at the academy and from the professor.

With that being said, he's not going to be summoning hordes of undead in cities or anything like that. Think of him like a "ghost whisperer" and he will control and disrupt undead only to protect his group.

I am aware that Carrion Crown features a group of necromancers as the bad guys(heard about it, not aware of the storyline), so I know that could cause some problems in a RP sense, but I like that challenge, even if good NPC's and townfolk find out, I'm sure his charming childlike demenor could sway them.

If you still don't think it fits, I have no issue with changing to an evoker or summoner focus, but I would have to re-write a portion of the backstory as the idea behind the character changes. Don't mind though

DM Haldhin wrote:

Without Cho-lum to guide him, will Harold continue to follow his teachings, or is there a chance that he would backslide into his former life? How solidly are Harold's feet on his current path?

Harold was created very much as a shades of grey character. Not particularly noble, not all together bad, he's walking the line between what he sees as right and wrong for the moment. But like any good Gothic hero, he struggles with his own internal demons and fights against temptation to give into the darker side of his soul. To answer you question though, it would depend on the situation. For now, Harold is following the teachings of his late friend/mentor in not tormenting those weaker than himself or that are undeserving of his ire. With so much anger still buried just below the surface though, Harold can be goaded into unimaginable acts of violence given enough provocation by those stupid enough or brave enough to spur him on.

GM:
I imagine that, since Mithias spent a number of years in a number of academic institutions and Lorrimore seems to have been well know in the country, he would have heard of the Professor from his other instructors or another student.

GM:
Would Gunther's mother and sisters be searching for him, his father, and brothers? Do they know Gunther still lives? If not, how would they react if they found out?

Gunther's travels have taken him northward, away from Caiphas where his father and brother's traded. It is certain his remaining family would have an interest in finding what happened. As the dwarves (Biroc and sons) were fairly clannish (heh) they didn't make too many contacts with the locals, so depending on how hard they were searched for their trail goes cold in Caliphas. Milos, the Varisian business partner, acquired the mine deed through less than legal means, his partner in the local government actually stealing it and then fudging records to muddy the trail. Anyone that makes a connection between Milos and the dwarves could run afoul of the Sczarni. For his part, Gunther is still harboring great pain and guilt and dreads facing his family. His relationship with the Professor improved his feelings of self worth slightly, more positive acts might give him the strength to go home again.

All, apologies for not responding yesterday, we lost power at the house for several hours during a storm.

I'll have feedback for the rest of the submissions tonight, as well as continued discussion with other characters as needed.

I'm in South Eastern Ontario, Canada, and it's 40 (Celsius, sorry, we're metric) here with about 90% humidity.

40 degrees Celsius is 104 degrees Fahrenheit which is still too hot.

Anything over 32.5 Celsius or 90 Fahrenheit is too much for me anymore.

I guess I'm lucky with 17 C (62.6 F). The people here complain though.

Blech to this weather. I'm glad that the American northwest hasn't been hit too badly so far, but my wife's in southern Ohio, and all my grandparents are in the DC area. Kudos to those of you who are able to survive in it, especially with the storms hitting the east coast.

Female Tiefling Transmuter (Ban enchantment and necromancy)

Racial;

Prehensile Tail Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery

Vestigial Wings Some tieflings possess a pair of undersized, withered, or stunted wings like a mockery of those of their fiendish forbearer. Sometimes these wings are leathery, like those of a bat. Other times they are covered with a scattering of black, red, or violet feathers. Rare manifestations can take even more bizarre forms. These wings do not provide the lift required for actual flight, but do have enough power to aid flight attained by some other method, and grant a +4 racial bonus on Fly skill checks. This racial trait replaces skilled.

Maw or Claw (Claw) Some tieflings take on the more bestial aspects of their fiendish ancestors. These tieflings exhibit either powerful, toothy maws or dangerous claws. The tiefling can choose a bite attack that deals 1d6 points of damage or two claws that each deal 1d4 points of damage. These attacks are primary natural attacks. This racial trait replaces the spell-like ability racial trait.

•Darkvision: Tieflings can see perfectly in the dark for up to 60 feet.

•Fiendish Resistance: Tieflings have cold resistance 5, electricity resistance 5, and fire resistance 5.

Transmuter Abilities

Transmutation Arcane School

Transmuters use magic to change the world around them.

Physical Enhancement (Su)

You gain a +1 enhancement bonus to one physical ability score (Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution). This bonus increases by +1 for every five wizard levels you possess to a maximum of +5 at 20th level. You can change this bonus to a new ability score when you prepare spells. At 20th level, this bonus applies to two physical ability scores of your choice.

Telekinetic Fist (Sp)

As a standard action you can strike with a telekinetic fist, targeting any foe within 30 feet as a ranged touch attack. The telekinetic fist deals 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage + 1 for every two wizard levels you possess. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier.

Change Shape (Sp)

At 8th level, you can change your shape for a number of rounds per day equal to your wizard level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive. This ability otherwise functions like beast shape II or elemental body I. At 12th level, this ability functions like beast shape III or elemental body II.

Backstory:

Koakuma Scarlet is the assistant Librarian and apprentice to the sickly archwizarddress, Patchouli Scarlet, whom, like her employer and wife was forced to adopt the surname in service of thier vampire employer, Remilia Scarlet. one day, Professor Lorrimor got attacked by the Tian Gatekeeper of the Scarlet Manor, a Woman named Hong whom was a lethal martial artist. Koakuma nursed him back to health as a means of apology in the stead of the overagressive gatekeeper and made a deal to lease him an extra month on a few books in exchange for a contribution of information. Koakuma, recieved a letter from the late professor, willing her his diary and research notes as a contribution to the manor's library. the head maid, a shamed former vampire hunter by the nickname of Sakuya, was left to perform her duties during her absence.

Koakuma usually attends to patchouli's every need, but simply went to pick up a late contribution.

Koakuma is usually extremely shy and avoidant, afraid of the touch from those she isn't familiar with. she is sensitive to the texture and fit of her clothing. she doesn't spend a lot of time interacting and can be a little blunt and straightforward with her honesty, and is still very pure, despite her fiendish ancestry.

Oleg Volchenko
Male Human (Varisian) Bard (Demagogue)

Background:
Living in the shadow of one's grandfather can be difficult, but when your grandfather was one of the organizers behind the bloodless revolt that formed the Palatinates, one's family name makes you a hero to many and a villain to a few. Oleg's grandfather Piotr Volchenko made many enemies in the aristocracy, particularly the members of the Beauturne family. These enemies have appeared from time to time causing trouble, but it hasn't stopped Oleg from carrying on the tradition as hero to the people, and he is well-known in Courtaud for his rabble-rousing.
Professor Lorrimor was teaching at Lepidstadt University while Oleg attended and that was where the two initially crossed paths. The Professor taught history and Oleg was the star pupil regaling the others with stories of the revolt from his grandfather.
Oleg spent one summer with Petros on an investigation of some ruins inside the borders of the Worldwound and the experience changed him. He decided that the adventuring life was for him. Once his studies were complete at Lepidstadt, Oleg signed on to an expedition (without the Professor), this time in the ruins of Adorak.
Three months into the expedition, Oleg received news of the Professor's death and he left for Ravengro to attend the funeral and pay his respects.

Comments and questions for more characters:

Oliar:
A lone catfolk wandering the streets must have been difficult for him, especially on the heels of the betrayal from the half-fiend posing as a Bellflower agent. Has Oliar actually started trusting people again, or has he become more guarded (and possibly jaded) about depending on other people?

Firavel Mandorellian:
No need to change anything, I enjoyed your take on it. Who is to say the Professor showed the same side to everyone he met? On to Firavel - what would he say is his greatest liability? He is skilled, witty, good with a blade - is he self-aware enough to recognize his failings yet, or does he still need to learn more about himself?

Girvin Teech:
Nice method for the background. In his travels, how much has Girvin learned about Ustalav, it's history, the problems with undead and other creatures? I'm interested to know how a man of nature is going to react to a land that is so full of unnatural creatures.

Korvus Slade:
As somebody who has constantly had to fight against prejudice, how far would Korvus go to support another person suffering from similar bias? His intellect is beyond question, as is his success under the Professor, but how deep is his devotion to the ideals he himself has championed throughout his life? Does the strength of his heart match the power of his mind?

Okay all, this is as far as I'm getting with another storm hitting us and our lights flickering. I'll update the rest around noonish EST tomorrow. Sorry for another delay, but I'd rather get up something than nothing.

You can say ASS , ARSE , ASSES and ARSES.

DM:

He indeed has trust issues, it is one of the reasons he became invested in the Prophecies of Kalistrade (the idea being that cold, hard cash won't betray you). The professor helped him overcome parts of this distrust though and Oliar has become more open to the fact that there are people out there who can actually be trusted, which he deep down already knew.

He is available in ranger, rogue or fighter form btw. Couldn't really decide which I'd like best and came to the conclusion I like all three options.

@ Leon: Right you are. We've lost power two, maybe three times in the past seven years before this week. Now we've lost it two nights ago, and twice last night. Time to move!

@ Bjorn: Great list, thanks for doing that.

More later.

Firavel is a thrill seeker, a risk taker. He is not perfect and will try for things where he might fail. In fact, he has gotten caught by those he tried to rob as well as the authorities, and he hasn't always escaped. He realizes this failing, but doesn't really care. What's the point of doing something if it's easy?

He may have toned it down a bit with the constant surprises of the Professor's messages as, more often than not, he'll think twice about an action before doing it, but he'll still fall back on his old risky ways on occasion. Perhaps this was why the professor has been doing this to him: to temper the risks, and improve the person. The professor, unfortunately, died before he was finished. I saw Firavel as CN initially, but turned to CG with the professor's frightening yet subtle influence.

I think this covers all the character backgrounds I haven't yet reviewed. Please speak up if I missed someone!

I'll post again tonight to answer questions and provide feedback as needed.

Azkhoth:
Azkhoth appears to be devoted to both his God and duty as a holy warrior in His service, but what challenges is he most afraid of facing? What temptations, if any, would most likely cause him to seriously question his dedication to Angradd?

Jerome:
With a family history of so much service to Pharasma, how does Jerome’s family feel about his chosen line of work? In a way, he is almost the opposite of his family – as a warrior, he is the one who is sending souls to Pharasma. Is this something he’s considered, or is he the type of person who regards finding a profession he enjoys and excels in it’s own blessing?

Mingan:
I’m curious about how and when Mingan became a druid? Did his views on his clan and people change after he accepted the new trust of his dedication to nature? And why did he become a wolf shaman? Was it a choice he made, or did the wolve spirit(s) choose him?

Hania:
After all their interactions, why does Hania belive the Professor stopped writing? The background gives me the impression that she is careful to maintain her emotional distance from him – is that an accurate perception? If so, why?

Koakuma:
I think Koakuma nursing the Professor back to health is a solid beginning to their relationship, but the story (especially in the first adventure) works best when the characters have something of a deeper connection, or emotional tie, to Lorrimor. Does Koakuma have any special fondness (or dislike) for the Professor? If not, is she the type of person who would feel obligated to fulfill requests from those with whom she doesn’t have a true relationship?

Oleg:
How much does Oleg feel overshadowed by his grandfather and his exploits in the revolution? Does Oleg truly enjoy what he does, or is part of his current persona either a rebellious streak (the rabble-rousing) or an attempt to emulate, or even surpass, his grandfather’s achievements and fame?

GM:
Jerome sees himself more as a guardian to others so they will not fall prey to Ustaliv's many horrors and thus have their threads cut short. He enjoys wandering and has joined several caravans in order to visit several towns and villages to satisfy his wanderlust and hone his martial skills. He does feel that this is his niche and a way he can serve Pharasma by defending others.
Jerome's family knows he has little skill in being a mortcian and his lack of 'understanding the deeper mysteries' (average WIS) that keeps him from joining the clergy. So joining the militia was an acceptable alternative. They do hope he eventually decides to settle on a more city oriented position. "Settle down and find yourself a nice girl. "

GM:
I would say that she kept her distance at first and as time went on she grew closer to him since he didn't seem to judge her because of what she can do. As to why he stopped writing, a man like him may have made some enemies in his career. It's also possible that his need for her services diminished but that seems less likely to her.

I now have an alias set up. Hania Ishihara

Mingan notes for GM

to GM:

Mingan's clan revered the wolf as their totem spirit. it was the wolf spirit that guided his tribe. early in every boy's life the shaman of the tribe would give a reading to him and send him off in search of his wolf spirit. once he found it and communed with his totem his path would then be chosen.

Mingan totem guided him to become a great warrior much like his father. his totem revelaed to him in visions that there was much blood in his future.

after the destruction of his clan in between his capture and the Professor saving his life Mingan spent several days in the prison awaiting his fate. It was here that his wolf spirit came to him in a dream and merged with him in spirit grantiung him the wisdom of the shamans of his ansestors. It was at that moment he became a wolf shaman (aka druid). Mingan still has a warrior's heart but that is tempered by his ansestors spirits that guide him.

Mingan knows that he is the last of his tribe but not of his whole Lyrune-Quah nation. he believes if he remains as true as he can to the beliefs of his ansestors they will guide him home when he is ready.

Re: Girvin Teech

GM:

I'd like to think he's fairly familiar with the lore surrounding Ustalav, but he's not comfortable with it. His reasons for coming to Ustalav in the first place are split between his Gnomish sense of adventure and his Druidic sense of duty. In his eyes, the problems in the country are traced back to some problem with, or corruption of, nature. Dealing with the "symptoms" of this disease is part of his duty to help Nature heal itself.

Koakuma Notes

'GM:

Koakuma has a secret fondness for the professor, she is just a little too shy to admit it, and picking up his diary and research notes was merely her excuse to attend his funeral. though she is going to pick them up. and yes, she does feel obligated to fulfill the requests of others she doesn't have a true relationship with, usually not without some kind of compensation, unless the requests she deems unreasonable, such as sacrificing a child to Lamashtu, making a pact with a demon, or creating hordes of undead legions as examples. her grandmother was a devil that sought redemption and she doesn't want to become the evil that her grandmother fled from. so when she does request compensation for performing a favor, she says it doesn't have to be immediate, but it would be nice for them to remember the kindness she performed. she presents her wings and tail, not out of pride for her fiendish heritage, but because her grandmother wanted her to at least be honest when she speaks, even if she was too shy to do it. so she can be a little blunt sometimes. even if she does stutter a lot.

Koakuma even though her first name is of Tien origin, we could say her mother had a fascination with Tian lore. and simply gave her a minkaien name out of her fascination with the culture. the surname scarlet came from her job working as the assistant librarian in the scarlet manor. and was a forced feature of employment by her excellency, the Vampiress, Remilia Scarlet. the woman that runs the mansion.

i will list the freakshow that is the scarlet manor;
Koakuma's wife Patchouli, is a purple haired Samsaran admixture wizard with severe asthma (Constitution of 5) and the head librarian, a childhood friend of the mistress of the manor.
Sakuya is the chief maid, a shamed yet loyal tian ex vampire hunter,
Meiling the gatekeeper, is an oni-spawn tiefling martial artist,

Thanks for all the replies, makes my life much easier. And the storms have stayed away for now, so I'm actually getting all my posting out of the way tonight for once!

I'm using this post to respond to some questions and/or outstanding items from my first round of inquiries. If I'm not asking you anything, it's because I have a good idea of your submission and how they might fit into the story with the other party members.

I've really enjoyed reading all the work everyone has submitted; I really have some tough decisions to make...

Daniel:
It's not a problem, I just wasn't sure why you were interested if you were already playing in a CC campaign.

Belle:
I don't think Vincent is "too much" so if you want him to be your submission, then that's okay. And yes, ghost and lycanthrope are definitely out. :)

Arcturus:
It's the "controlling" undead part that is going to cause problems with NPCs. I'll think about it a bit more to see if I can figure it out in the story.

Oliar:
Does the backstory remain the same for all three options?

Thanks for the update.

Think you'll have decisions by tomorrow? (Thursday)

DM:
Thanks for the consideration and if you need me to change focus I can, but you do have a lot of arcanists to choose from. Good luck with the choices

Updated Vincent info.

Thanks to the loving and supportive upbringing of his gnomish parents, Korvus never truly experienced prejudice until he was enrolled in the Stone of Seers. Initially he was quite distressed by the contemptuous treatment he received from his teachers and his peers. However, through the support of his parents and Professor Lorrimor (as well as his own optimistic nature) Korvus found the courage to persevere. In time, his diplomatic manner along with his stoic determination to excel in his studies helped him to overcome the others' intolerance and earn their grudging respect.

Korvus' experience at the Stone of Seers instilled in him a strong desire to ensure that others do not suffer similar discrimination. If he encountered someone else in similar straits, he would not hesitate to move to their defense; however, he would strive to do so through diplomatic means rather than through violence (unless the person was in immediate physical danger and violence was the only means possible to ensure his or her safety). Influenced by the fine examples set by his parents and Professor Lorrimor as well as his own experiences, Korvus has developed a staunch desire to help others.

DM:

Notin a big way. In case I go for the warrior I'll grab the Slippery trait, so stealth training is something for all versions. He always is a stealthy guy as a result of his past.

The only difference are the way he did things. For instance, the Fighter version would have held up the erinyes and half-fiend as long as possible so the rest could escape before going himself, while the rogue and ranger versions would have lead the escape.
Similarly, their repossession tactics would have differed. The rogue would have snuck in to take the targeted items while the fighter would have kicked in the door and the ranger would adjust his tactics depending on what he was after (small, sneak in. Big, kick in the door).
During the Bellflower escapes the rogue and ranger versions would have always entered the mansions to get people out while the fighter version would have spent most time on watch, only entering when they expected they needed to break down a door or something.

GM:
How much does Oleg feel overshadowed by his grandfather and his exploits in the revolution?
He's proud of his grandfather's deeds, but he feels shackled by the prejudice of others. If he does what they expect, it's because of his blood (not his effort), inversely, if he doesn't do what they expect, they wonder what's wrong with him (Why isn't he like his grandfather?). He feels pigeon-holed. He hasn't come to accept yet that they'll believe what they believe regardless of what he does or doesn't do. Mind you, he hasn't consciously recognized that there are certain benefits from the goodwill engendered by his grandfather's acts, though he is keenly aware of the enemies his grandfather made.

Does Oleg truly enjoy what he does?
Initially, he did because he was good at it and it gave him a way to hero-worship his grandfather, but the reality has hit home and he's lost some of the "spiritual" benefit it provided him. His experience at university and on the expedition with the Professor opened up his eyes to a bigger world and more options so he's pursuing a new option.

or is part of his current persona either a rebellious streak (the rabble-rousing)?
He is outspoken and has an innate principled outlook and he found he's inherited the glibness so the rabble-rousing does sit well with him, in isolation, but the shadow of his grandfather directs him away from it at the moment. So yes, he does have a rebellious streak, but it's tempered by his belief in good.

or an attempt to emulate, or even surpass, his grandfather’s achievements and fame?
He did initially try to emulate his grandfather, but Oleg's more interested in finding his own way. He benefits from the fame certainly, but it isn't his motivation. He'd be fine living a nondescript life except where compelled to take action from his strong sense of right and wrong and except for the guilt he'd feel from letting down the expectations of others which he's grappling with currently.
Finding his own way awards him a way to be himself and if it happens to lead to fame and fortune, so be it. He doesn't need to out-do his grandfather, he doesn't see it as a competition.

GM:

Any feedback and questions regarding Fernu is most welcome :) Like the idea of the dilemma that she has to get her hands on her foes (which potentially causes problems with some undead etc)

Will focus on rage powers that augment her fighting style and tie in with her monicker of "fearing nothing" (apart from the obligation to the Prof :)

Bjorn makes a good point - I haven't seen any new submissions in a few days, so I'm going to go ahead and close recruitment.

I'll do my best to have decisions by tonight, but it might be first thing tomorrow am.

Fernu:
Here is what I am most curious about:

Would the Skull Clan markings be known outside Shoanti lands? If so, how do you think superstitious villagers would react to the knowledge?

DMHaldin:

My gut feeling is that given the Professor's interest in macabre knowledge, villagers may have heard tale or perhaps even seen "these strange tattooed barbarians from the Cinderlands". While they wouldn't discern between clans or Quahs, they would have a healthy respect/fear/mistrust for the Shoanti (and there may well be "folklore" surrounding their practices and traditions.

In effect I see Fernu as a combination of Queequeg from Moby Dick and Gina Carano lol.

Narf.

Good luck all. Maybe I'll catch the next CC Recruitment.

Sorry about the delayed response--yesterday was one of those days. Anywho, here we go:

DM Haldhin:
Azkhoth appears to be devoted to both his God and duty as a holy warrior in His service, but what challenges is he most afraid of facing? What temptations, if any, would most likely cause him to seriously question his dedication to Angradd?

Hrrm. Insightful questions. Azkhoth would be afraid of failure, for one. While he's had some nasty scraps before, he hasn't fought any foes who were overwhelming enough that the group he was with came to the verge of certain defeat--the point where he's on his last legs, with the rest of the party dead, dying, or fleeing around him. Fighting against the orcs, the group he was with would have been efficient and organized. While Orcish berserkers would certainly be a threat, and battles would certainly have been lost, I don't imagine Azkhoth being engaged in any sort of utter rout--a loss terrible enough to cause him to question Angradd. Being faced with that for the first time would be a great test for him, particularly if a loss at that point wold result in pain and death to those whom he is protecting.

The threat of madness would also be a fear of his. Having fought abominations, it makes sense that he would have seen at least some of his comrades go insane, and gained a creeping horror of the same happening to him. While he is able to physically resist and strike at any enemies, slow, subtle enemies creeping into his mind with tendrils that whisper off realms beyond his ken (and so forth) would be problematic.

I'd say that he is afraid of several things--primarily, the destruction of the Kazrothi and the possibility of losing his connection to Angradd. Power could potentially tempt him--enough power to destroy the orcs of Belkzen or the aberrations of the Hungry Mountains. Part of his motivation is to protect his clan. Angradd's philosophy focuses on striking first--destroying a threat before it becomes too threatening. If something gave a credible offer of such power, that would tempt him.

Other than an offer of power, I'd say wrath might turn him from Angradd. While the god is offensively minded, he's still Lawful Good. Depending on your interpretation of alignment (and how you want to flesh out Angradd), a situation where Azkhoth fights through an Orcish horde and reaches the nursery (or local Orc equivalent) while still filled with battle-anger could be problematic; the most efficient way to reduce the orc threat in the future would be to wipe out the little orclings, but this (I imagine) would not jive with Angradd's tenets.

Anywho, hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any more questions.
