Natty Grast |
Natty sniffs the air, his ear listening to the sound of a breeze, "Well it would seems our way is north, given by the divine inspiration. blah" he mumbles to himself, watching as the priest and barbarian lead the party on. He waits back until the light of the sunrod fades, then finding the sides of the passageway, takes to the shadows once more.
Stealth 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
GM Tierce |
You travel down a long and dark corridor and eventually the sound gets louder. You come to a room, The room is a charnel house of blood, bones, and scraps of rotten flesh. Strange runes have been sloppily drawn on the walls using some dark brown pigment. A moss-covered stone monolith stands in the center of the room, wreathed in gossamer wisps of gray mist that seem to congeal around the crumbling stone.
Symbols on the Walls - Know: Arcana
If you approach the monolith
GM Tierce |
Suddenly you hear barking coming from the west passage. Two dogs burst into the room, notice you all, and being to growl and advance. Upon closer inspection, you notice that these beast are no longer living as you can see rotted flesh and large boils of feasturing liquid upon their bodies.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
They don't notice Natty, so he will get an extra action for a surprise round
Player Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Festrogs Initiative 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Festrog #2 trip attack on Cilda 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Cilda flinches away as they are both unable to trip her.
Round 1, Player Turn, Go!
Natty Grast |
Natty silently moves behinds one of the dogs drawing his mace as he does, allowing Cilda a flanking position against one of the dogs. Unfortunately for Natty the dog moves and his blow just hisses over the creatures back and it escapes damage.
Mace attack flanking position 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8 Damage 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (3) = 7
Maus Sedat |
Maus fades back and flings a dagger at one of the creatures
1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 4 = 5 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
And the now familiar sound of steel on stone rings out again...
"May Pharasma begin to guide my aim...?"
Maus wracks his brain for knowledge about these beasts: Know Religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 and realizes he has never heard of this type of undead before...
Maus Sedat |
Just to picture.. we are in a hallway correct? with Cilda and Ralth up front with a hound directly in front of each. Natty is behind the one in front of Cilda and Maus and Choztu are behind the Cilda/Ralth front line. Correct? 10 foot wide corridor?
GM Tierce |
One of the dogs yips at it gets hit by Choztu's spell, but they continue to trip Cilda
Festrog #1 trip attack on Cilda 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
One of the Festrog's chops on Cilda's leg and pull, Cilda goes flying backwards and is knocked prone, the second jumps on top and begins to try to eat Cilda

Cilda is able to fight off the feeding dog.
Round 2, Player Turn, Go!
Maus Sedat |
Maus realizes that throwing into combat is likely to endanger the fallen Cilda and steps forward, Dagger and shield at the ready slashing at the feeding undead.
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 and damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 Which hopefully distracts the creature to attack Maus instead next round to allow Cilda to stand.
Cilda |
"GET THIS DAMN THING OFF ME!" Cilda yells, as she pushes the rotting hound corpse off of her. She reaches for her hammer and gets back up. She rushes to the dog that Maus slashed at with his dagger and attempts to finish the job quickly.
Attack with Power Attack 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 1 = 12
However, she still seems slightly off-balance, and just misses the hound.
Natty Grast |
Natty laughs at Childa's misfortune, "It's not a time to sleep lady. Let me finish this one off and I'll give you me hand." Moving to maintain his flanking position, he aims his hammer at the creatures temple, hoping to cave the dogs head in.
Mace attack flanking position 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 = 12 Damage 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (3) = 7
Better but probably no cigar !!
GM Tierce |
Maus slashes at the Festerog and one of it's large boils explodes in his face.
Make a Fort Save DC 12
The two festerogs attack Cilda as she is distracted from getting up from her prone position.
Festrog #1 AoO on Cilda 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Festrog #2 AoO on Cilda 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Cilda takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 and 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The Festerog's lose interest in Cilda and instead focus their attacks on Maus, you agrivated the boil on one of them, which is now oozing all over the creature.
Festrog #1 trip attack on Maus 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Festrog #2 trip attack on Maus 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Maus is knocked prone as one of the Festerog's chomp on his shin.
Round 3, Player Turn, Go!
Cilda |
Cilda is in pain from the damage that the undead hounds inflicted. The two clamping their jaws on her is surprisingly harsh. She is furious that these mindless abominations are actually hurting her.
"KILL THEM! KILL!"She yells in an infuriated state, slamming her weapon into the pus-covered one with all her might.
Enraged, with Power Attack 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 1 = 15
Attack Damage 1d12 + 9 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 3 = 20 Methinks the other one would be a better target now. :) Also, 4th round total in rage
Natty Grast |
Frustrated by his inaccuracy, Natty growls and tries once more, "Stay still and die!"
Mace attack flanking position 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8 Damage 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4) = 8
Hoping to get double figure on a roll one day ... :( I don't believe the rolls were having... me 3,7,3 great!!!
Maus Sedat |
Fort Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 Durn that reduced Con!
Although it seems to have still worked out
Looks like Maus will have to take two move actions this round :(
Maus scrambles and rolls (crawls 5') away from the creatures and then stands ready for the next assault, shield back up and dagger in hand.
GM Tierce |
Sorry for the delay, fighting off some food poisoning
One of the festerogs' explodes from Cilda's hit and she is covered in pus and visera from the attack.
Make a Fort Save DC 14
The second festerog, robbed of its prey as Maus scrambles across the floor, finally notices Natty trying to whack it with a mace and ties to bite into his flesh
Festerog bite attack on Natty 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
But Natty's quick reflexes take the bite attack out of range.
Round 4, Player Turn, Go!
Maus Sedat |
sorry to hear about the FP :(
Maus steps in once again and slashes at the foul beast, keeping his shield up to ward off the yuck that hitting them brings.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 +2 if I am able to get a flank with either Natty or Ral? Doesn't look like a flank will help me but hopefully will be useful to the other party members...
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Cilda |
Glad to know that you're feeling better, though!
Anyway: Fort roll while still enraged: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Cilda screams as the bile covers her. The sudden explosion shocks her, but doesn't slow her down in the least. She swings her weapon with all her might at the other festerog, dripping with bile and pus.
Attack with Power Attack 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 1 = 9
But the bile makes things hard to see, and Cilda swings wide off of her target.
5th round in rage, one round left before I need to rest for 8 hours to regain them.
Natty Grast |
Natty steps aside as the undead dog lunges a him, exposing the creature left flank, such an easy target to cave in the skull and brain. "Here dog, feed on this bone!" as the mace swings in.
Mace attack flanking position 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 2 = 18 Damage 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4) = 8
GM Tierce |
The second Festrog explodes from Natty's hit, and pus and visera are flung in every direction.
Make a Fort Save - DC 14
This room has become covered in the remains of the festrogs and your stomach turns at the ungodly smell of their rotting.
160 XP to each person
Anyone searching the room for treasure will not find any. However, if anyone touches the monolith
Natty Grast |
Natty manages to watch the mace crush the undead's head as its brains are turned to jelly inside it's skull, the grotesque skin remaining intact and not splitting under the blow.
Edited under guidance from DM
I was interested to see what I failed and had a look in the SRD for festrog to see what was about to happen. However, I noted it says the boils explode with slashing or piercing weapons, but Natty uses a mace, a bludgeoning weapon. I'll leave it to you what you want to happen as you mess with the stats a bit.... :)
I'm glad, I saw the penalty for failing and it wasn't pretty for Natty, in fact I'd say devastating for him.
