The Fountain of Dreams was much more than just where the phylactery is. You have knowledge of A LOT of lost lore. For example you now have the very dangerous knowledge of where the Eye of Vecna is...yay, I say go get it and pop it in...or maybe that's a terrible idea and you shouldn't listen when the GM's evil side starts coming out...

Well, now that I have sated my bloodthirsty side for awhile (thanks Ferez! j/k) I'm feeling a mite generous and will share all sorts of arcane secrets you learned from the Fountain. So maybe you want to count all your coppers and buy some of these unique items...

Of course, you need crafters powerful enough to make this stuff if you can't yourselves, but you know some powerful peeps...and you can cast most of the required spells yourselves probably if you just wanted to work directly with a crafter.

Vulcan and Bublaka both expressed interest in an amulet of natural armor +1 and putting yours in the kitty would make two available. That would allow Bublaka to use the animated shield without reducing his AC and would allow Vulcan to improve his AC by two.

If you're taking requests, displacement (3rd level) and elemental body III (6th level) would sure be great potions. The latter would grant immunity to critical hits. Let me know and I'll foot the costs of learning the formulae, if any.

GM, the two items that interest me are the Breathdrinker greatsword and the Ring of Death Ward.

Question: shouldn't the ring of death ward be similarly priced to a ring of freedom of movement (40,000 gp instead of 60K listed), as both are continuous 4th level cleric spells on a ring?

Concern: Both of these items are 50+K and according to the crafting rules, it takes 1 day per 1000 gp cost of item, so I have to wait 40-60 days for the item to be crafted. That's not reasonable time to wait, with the whole end of the world happening. Can't take off 2 months. So is it even viable in the game to craft the items? You even stated that this would be our last period of downtime.

Deathward is a hell of a lot more useful that freedom of movement at high level. Ans especially in an undead oriented campaign.

Obviously Cloak of the Sorceror King appeals to me.

Ok seriously, the process can be accelerated to 1000gp per 4 hours. Which could be sped up with multiple crafters to 6000 gp/day (as any one crafter can only work 8 hours at a time). So your talking a week and a half tops (well 17 days for the Cloak of the Sorcerer King).

I was being too obtuse with the Tenser thing. BT had it right BUT Manzorian is Paizo's nod to the Archmage Tenser (who was historically referred to as "The Manzorian") He and other mage's who had 1st and 2nd edition spells named after them (Tenser's Floating Disk and Tenser's Transformation) were written out of 3rd edition entirely. I think it was an attempt by the 3rd edition authors to make the game less world specific (in this case Greyhawk). I was just sharing a bit of trivia...snarkily and poorly I might add.


Good question. Here are the specifics I was able to come up with.

Ring of Death Ward is Spell level × caster level × 2,000 gp

So that would be (4th level spell)x(7th level caster)x(2,000gp(1min/level))=56,000gp

Ring of Freedom of Movement is (4th level spell)x(7th level caster)x(1,500gp(10min/level))=42,000gp

These are guidelines for magic item pricing so there is a little leeway to adjust prices accordingly (such as the Freedom Ring being only 40k).

The difference in pricing is based off the original spells duration. So 60k seems about right (with a 4k "this is @#$&ing cool tax" in a undead campaign like Vulcan said)

My understanding is that they originally wrote it using the Greyhawk setting (e.g. Balakarde was Bucknard, Manzorian was Tenser, the city for the Champion's Belt was Greyhawk, etc.) but Wizards of the Coast preferred a neutral setting so they replaced any Greyhawk-specific references.


Vug: I believe you are correct in that also, my memory is foggy but that sounds right.

Oh, master of the treasure list, do you need to calculate in Vug's donated amulet of natural armor +1 and Bublaka's contributed +2 Heavy Shield of Arrow Deflection?

The ring of Death Ward seems like a pretty natural choice out of the sweet items shared. The cloak of the sorcerer king is not a bad item - anything that grants a +6 to charisma sounds pretty good, but that cloak of resistance on my back is supposed to helpful one of these days... ;P

GM, as we reach the highest levels of the game, I wish to know how you feel about spells like greater planar ally and gate, with which I can summon 18th level outsiders or up to 34 HD creature, depending on what I can afford. I don't want to make the game crowded or give you more work to do like increasing the CR of encounters and right now, I don't have any funds. Just want to know if this is something I should save gold for or should I concentrate my funds elsewhere in the future?


You absolutely can gate in outsiders and such. There is even a Wormsfood article in Dragon Magazine that gives unique outsiders to summon. They will need to be updated of course but I think we can manage. With our maps it should be cake.

We have Bubba take 20 on Knowledge (Planes) so he can tell us all about angels!

A Planetar has true seeing; DR; regeneration; SR; immune to electricity, cold, and acid; flight; and cast as 16th level clerics (will take healing strain off Friar a little), hits hard with a holy sword, with over 200 hps! I think we should call one in the day we leave for the giants' homeland and contract him for 10 days - 12,500 gp (may be less, may be more) seems cheap for all the benefits it brings. Of course, bringing an angel with us would kill any chance at diplomacy with the giants, as I assume they're evil, which is fine with Valgrim but may not be with party goals.

Since the treasures sold were all group treasures, I would like everyone's input on setting up the fund and if you think this would be a wise investment.

I was going to suggest Symbol of Persuasion as a possibility for Father Feres, too.

Can Bub also take 20 on a Knowledge check about Dragotha and what powers he might have?

Thanks, Vug. I had not looked at that spell. Though I don't have the 5K material component for that spell.

Valgrim, I'm fine with the Planetar. He has the same alignment as myself and Sarenrae, so he should react well to us. I have a decent diplomacy which can be buffed with Touch of Glory, so maybe I can negotiate the price. Another front-line fighter would help a lot too.

I know I take a huge hit on saves, but up to 80% of my spells can at some point be extended/empowered which is huge as well as the elemental resistances.

Bublaka: I mentioned it in this discussion thread along with giving you links to the magic items from Dragon Magazine. The details aren't really important you just have some historical knowledge about the Eye (much like the phylactery). You don't get the impression that it would be any easier to recover than the phylactery and possibly even more difficult if it has a current owner.
