The Tomb of Horros Part 1 (4e) - Group 2

Game Master Rev Rosey

Tomb of Horrors Group 2.
Ah yes. Now I remember. I set up another thread for Group 2 after the first episode because the type in the main title was just embarrassing me.

I think Barel is supposed to be in the lineup just before the Bodaks. If not, just ignore this post and I will post again when appropriate.

Barel will move to the other side of the closer Bodak. Frost forms over Barel's body and thin sheets of ice form under the Bodak, making it hard for him to steady himself. Barel then strike the bodak roughly across his chest.

move action: move to F11 via G15.
free action: mark B2 (-3 penatly to attacks not including Barel)
minor action: form of winter's herald: +1 bonus to AC and resist 5 cold. In addition, each square within 2 squares of you, wherever you move, is difficult terrain for your enemies.
standard action: rough strike--str vs AC 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
hit: 2d10 + 17 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (6, 1) + 17 + 5 + 5 = 34, and target is slowed UEMNT
Barel: 116/122, AC=30 (until end of the encounter)

Arishat's shimmying advance completely befuddles the bodak. Clearly a tiefling dancing her way towards him is an experience out of the common way.

The creatures dread gaze throws her off, but her attack hits, even so.

The greataxe swings into her.

Greataxe (AC). On hit target is dazed and weakened (se both)
1d20+22=36. Hits. 1d12+6=15
15 damage to Arishat and she is dazed and weakened (se both)

The second bodak advances, his doom-filled gaze sweeping the intruders.

MAP

Bodaks have an aura 5 - Agonising Gaze. Any creature within the aura that makes a ranged or melee attack takes 5 damage before the attack and attacks at a -2 penalty.

Thom - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)

Kidlat - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)

Arishat - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura); dazed and weakened (se both)
Bodak 1 - one shroud; -2 attacks to end Arishat's next turn
Bodak 2

Thom gazes at one of the bodaks, trying to determine its weaknesses. He then concentrates on the other bodak, trying to slow it down somehow.

Minor Action. Use Foe Stone, Choose one creature you can see. You learn all the target’s vulnerabilities, as well as which of its defenses is lowest.
Standard action use Entangling Force:
Encounter
KEYWORDS Arcane, Force, Implement
Standard Action
RANGE Area burst 1 within 10 squares, targeting square L16
TARGET Each creature in burst
A burst of force erupts around your enemies, knocking them off balance and impeding their movement.
Attack: Intelligence 1d20 + 16 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 16 - 2 = 18 vs. Reflex
Hit: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) + 5 = 16 force damage.
Until the end of your next turn, the target is slowed and can't teleport, and it provokes opportunity attacks when it shifts.
Wand of Accuracy: On a miss, you deal force damage to the target equal to your Intelligence modifier (+5).

Assuming that attack misses,
Use Refined Recall:
Encounter KEYWORDS Arcane
A moment of concentration allows you to reclaim the power invested in your faulty effort.
Trigger: You miss every target when using an arcane encounter attack power.
Effect: The attack power is not expended.

HP: 61/72

Thom's findings are not auspicious and he fluffs his spell. Ever resourceful, however, he recalls it for future use.

Vulnerable 5 radiant. Will and Ref are lowest defenses.

@RevDM

Spoiler:
Did you see my post just after Arishat's. I am not in the init lineup, but posted when I thought I should have been...unfortunately, I think our posts crossed on the way through the internet tubes!

Ack - sorry Barel! I missed it. I've got classes all day today but as soon as I get back I'll stitch you into your proper place :)

As Arishat finishes moving, Barel is already with her, slamming his hammer into the bodak and slowing it as the ice forms over its feet.

B2 would still have hit Arishat, even with a -3.

Tavar will take the 5 damage and cast lance of faith at bodak #1.

Tavar's light is not enough to pierce the overwhelming gloom of the bodak.

Kidlat teleports and slams his aegis into B2, moving to support Barel and Arishat. His blade flickers, drawing lightning from the air and winding around his foe, bouncing off B2 and sneaking around B1 as well. Although neither attack hits, he does make his presence felt.

Lingering Lightning (Ref). One, two or three creatures. Range 5. On hit target takes 5 ongoing lightning damage (se). Miss - half damage.

Thanks :) Edited.

Barel will move closer to the Bodak and swing his hammer at him again.

move action: shift to F12
standard action: mountain hammer: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19 vs fort.
on hit: 2d10 + 11 + 5 + 5 ⇒ (5, 4) + 11 + 5 + 5 = 30 damage, and the target takes a -6 penalty to melee attack rolls until the end of your next turn.

on miss: nothing

edit: and on this miss: nothing

Barel moves to cut off one of the few remaining escape routes as B2 swings its greataxe towards him. The weapon skims past the dwarf, narrowly missing him.

Greataxe. On hit target is dazed and weakened (se both)
1d20+19=29. Kidlat's Aegis made the difference.

Arishat smells rather than sees B1 as it moves behind her and hears the swish of another axe in the air. The bodaks are not aiming well.

Thom, mindful of the effects of the agonizing aura from the Bodaks, opts for something more illuminating.

Radiant Pillar:
KEYWORDS Arcane, Implement, Radiant, Zone
You conjure a cylinder of light that illuminates the battlefield, searing the eyes of your foes.
Standard Action, Area Burst 1 within 10 squares. Centered in square F16
Effect: The burst creates a zone of bright light until the end of your next turn. Creatures are blinded while within the zone. If a creature vulnerable to radiant damage starts its turn within the zone, it takes damage equal to double its vulnerability.

Really F16? F14 nets you two blind bodaks for the price of one. Let me know if you want to change it.

Light springs from Thom's fingertips, blinding and wounding the nearest bodak.

Rev, if I understand the spell, it blinds ALL creatures in its raduis, correct. If the other party members are affected by it, then Thom would not blind them. If they are OK with it, then by all means put it in F14.

Quite right - I didn't read it properly. Leaving it right where it is.

Female Tiefling Warlord/Infernal Strategist 18

I'd suggest F14 for it. Arishat is perfectly happy being blind, since she can then hit blind Bodak's with Lynore. Commander's Strike is such fun. And it'll certainly bugger up B2's day.

"New, Improved Lynore - the warlord's weapon of choice!"

Deciding that Kidlat won't mind either as he can get out of there if he really wants to. Back to F14 and two blind bodaks, waiting to be squished.

Both bodaks wince as the unaccustomed and most unwelcome light hits them.

Although her attack is frustrated by the bodak's general aura of evil and corruption, Lynore notes that B2 has a mithril key around its neck.

"Hey! Pay attention to me, you ugly creature." Being blind seems not to bother Arishat much, as she tries to distract the bodak. "It makes it much easier for Lynore to hit you that way."

61/86 hit points, 6/7 healing surges, dazed and weakened (se both); blinded (Thom's zone)

I'm wondering with regard to Agonising Gaze, who actually takes damage? It sounds like any attack I grant means damage for the person making it, which isn't something I particularly want.

The bodaks are tough indeed and resist the force of Barel's hammer. On the plus side, blindness severely hampers them in their attempts to eviscerate the party. Arishat is unharmed and unmoved by either attempt.

I was absolutely delighted when you took it. I don't even need to hit things any more.

Question for you, Rev: Does the Entangling Force Power affect all targets in its area of effect, or just enemies? Also could you refresh my memory on how we handled the Learned Boost affecting Magic Missile again?

One more question, could Thom use Mage Hand to pocket the key from the Bodak?

Urk. Re Learned Boost and Magic Missile - I can't remember and will have to look it up. I know we came to some equitable agreement on it. I'll get back to you on that.

Entangling Force states "all creatures in the burst" so it doesn't discriminate.

Mage Hand can't be used to take the key as it is attached to a chain around the creature's neck and it will resist. Once the thing is dead or the key is on the ground, you can use it.

Rev: I found the link HERE

So its 2d4+11 Damage

Thank you! I remembered the discussion, just not the conclusion. 22hp damage it is.

When the bodak swings at Arishat, Barel reminds it that Barel should be the focus of his attention, not Arishat.

immediate interrupt: Warden's Fury: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (5) + 17 = 22 vs fort
on hit: 1d10 + 12 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 12 + 5 = 26 and he grants CA to me and all my allies UEMNT.

I also forgot to mention that I would like to mark him again during my last turn, so the -3 to attack anyone other than me (-3 due to Feat: Mark of Warding) should be in effect.

Edit: the first line should read "Barel UNSUCCESSFULLY reminds..."

Yeesh. I forgot the marks, so they missed by even more. Go bodaks.

Male Deva Cleric 22

Tired of not hitting anything Tavar cast Cascading Light bodak 1.

Attack vs will, 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25, damage = 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (5, 3, 3) + 9 = 20 radiant, target also gains vulnerability 5 to all your attacks (save ends.

if I miss target takes half damage.

All - it's over five weeks since we've seen or heard from Kidlat. I will recruit a replacement at this point. Sorry, Rad. It's been too long and I just can't keep running a paragon level pc as well as five games.

Tavar's application of divine light burns into B1 and making it grimly aware that more will follow.

Kidlat swings once more, and this time makes an impact. B2 is now looking in poor condition.

Booming Blade (AC) v B2.
1d20+16=31
1d8+10=13 damage

MAP

Bodaks are vulnerable 5 radiant. Will and Ref are lowest defenses.

Bodaks have an aura 5 - Agonising Gaze. Any creature within the aura that makes a ranged or melee attack takes 5 damage before the attack and attacks at a -2 penalty.

*Lynore - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)
Arishat - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)
Barel - +1AC, resist 5 cold Bodak 1 - four shrouds; vulnerable 5 to all Tavar's attacks (se)
Bodak 2 - BLOODIED; marked by Barel (-2 to attacks not including him); slowed to end Barel's next turn; under Kidlat's Aegis
Thom - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)
Tavar - 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura) Kidlat - 86/96: 10/10: 1AP (used Armathor's Step; Lingering Lightning): 5 damage before attack and attack at -2 (Bodak aura)

We have a replacement :) Celestial Healer (Nayce in Halls of the Mountain King) is joining you.

Female Wood Elf Cleric / 3

Invoking shrouds 4d6 + 12 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 6) + 12 = 29 does 3d6+9 on miss
Shadow Storm 1d20 + 19 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 19 + 2 - 2 = 35 vs ac on Bodak 1, 1d8 + 11 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 4 + 4 = 21 if that hit 50 damage on Bodak 1
shroud on Bodak 2
Cloak of Shades, until the end of my next trun, gain caoncealment against all creatures and are invisible to creatures that are more than 5 squares away from me
