I forgot to add in there that Barel marked both Wights...his taunts should have been evidence of this, but I forgot to put it in the actions list.

It may not be smart, but Barel is about holding the attention of the bad guys and soaking up damage. Usually this happens while others are damaging the bad guys, but we seem to be unable to hit them this time! ;)


Doh. I even made a mental note to myself that you'd be marking and then forgot to list it. You need to roll a little better against these chaps, but they're not as ludicrously unhittable as the Vestige.

Lynore steps out of the shadows, and pulls the shadows around her blade to strike at the Wraith.


Lynore disappears and reappears, driving her blade deep into the swordwraith's insubstantial guts.

Rock! Good to have you back Rad. I'm sure I've used a daily, but I'll need to read back to be sure.

Long silent, Kidlat leaps into happy action, joining the gang around the sword wraiths and landing a blow on one of the undead.

Retaliation is instant. The wraiths are expert combatants and seem to relish the chance to show their skills.

W1's shadowy blade stabs at Barel, while W2 attacks Kidlat. Both shift slightly, hovering in the air.

Barel immediately reacts to the Wight's attack on Kidlat and whacks him with his hammer.

effect if hit: damage=1d10 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 5 = 23 and the target grants CA to me and my allies UEMNT.

I am weakened...but since my attack was an interrupt, it is possible that it occurred before the weakening. RevDM, your call. if weakened, please compute new damage (half damage, I think?)

You masterfully channel arcane energy into one of your simplest powers, imbuing it with surprising power.
Standard Action, Range Varies
Effect: Use one of your arcane at-will attack powers on the target. If you hit, you deal +2[W] damage, or +2 dice of damage if it is a non-weapon attack.

Thom - I think this is even more arguable on the basis that the effect says "if you hit". This implies that it should be used with an at-will other than Magic Missile, since you don't roll anything for that and the ability to automatically deal 22hp once per encounter seems a bit wrong. That said, I'm open to discussion and will have a trawl around and see what the official word is.

Thom - pending final decision, I've only taken 11 damage from W1 so far.

Barel mallets at W1 as he responds instinctively to the attack on his friend. Thom meanwhile, unleashes a blast of silvery force which slams into the insubstantial form. Tavar is less successful, as the wraith ducks aside from the divine light. The shield bearer salutes and fades away.

Maybe the non-weapon attack version would be good for something like this, just the +2 damage and thats it. 13 damage doesnt seem to OP, but still not bad.

You know, I think it is exactly that. 22hp auto damage until they say otherwise. It's a reliable power, so you can just keep going until you clobber something with it. I'll keep looking, but until we get an official errata, I think we may have to interpret it that way.

EDIT{/ooc] - Lynore, it's +2 dice of damage, not +2 damage, so that's 11 plus 2d4. And that, to my mind, is a good compromise.

Roll yourself an additional 2d4 to add to that 11 Thom, and we're fixed. I can live with that.

Barel again tries to wipe away the weakening that the Wight provided. He then moves to flank with Arishat on Wight 1 and then attempts to smack it.

Thom's bolt sputters again, and bloodies W1 even before Barel moves and strikes again. Even in his weakened state, he does serious damage, and swiftly shrugs off his affliction.

Post monster ahoy. I replied to this yesterday evening and it's nowhere to be seen.

To her intense annoyance, Arishat's attempt to send the wraith back to sleep is foiled by the narrowest of margins.

Kidlat keeps W2's attention on him, but notes with some concern that the wound he has inflicted closes almost at once. W1 also heals some of the damage done to it.

Barel hates feeling so weak and tries to wipe feeling away. He then feels his pain ease dramatically as he catches his second wind. He then moves adjacent to the wight and strikes it with his hammer.

Barel's blow is more than enough to wipe out the swordwraith. As the blow hits, it spasms once and flies at Barel.

Death Strike: triggered when wraith drops to 0hp. Shifts 4 squares and makes melee basic attack plus additional 2d8 necro damage on hit.

Weakened as he is, Kidlat's attack does hardly any damage to the insubstantial wraith. The scratch he does make in the creature heals immediately.

A globe of orange flame coalesces in your hand. You hurl it at your enemies, and it explodes on impact.

Hit: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) + 5 = 13 fire damage.
Miss: Half damage.


Thom's fireball does less damage than he'd hoped, but charred wisps rise into the air around the wraith.

Tavar call on the power of the Raven Queen and casts Zealous Santion at the remaining wraith.

Tavar's prayers are to no avail. The swordwraith shrugs aside the attack.

Barel hopes to stymie the lack of hits on this second wight. He dives into the ground, only to surprise the wight by coming up direclty next to his big toe. He then brings the Mountian Hammer down on his skull.

Move action: tread the earth (burrow twice your speed and each enemy I end adjacent to grants CA to me UEMNT.
standard action: Mountain Hammer--1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 17 + 2 = 26 versus Fort
effect if hit: damage=2d10 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2) + 11 + 5 = 21 and the target gets -6 to melee attack rolls UEMNT

Barel's unexpected appearance cannot dent the wraith's fortitude, or, for that matter, its skull.

One of those irritating rounds for everyone I fear. Barel, wasn't sure where you wanted to be exactly, but placed you so it's easy for someone to set up a flank with you.

Arishat hurries over to help Barel with the wight, or at least to miss it again. "We'll have none of this running away, you... Try hitting me, instead."
