The Kuo-toa attempt to hide themselves after the attack, but you can easily spot them all. All of you but Kikinnin, who saw only 3 Kuo-toas instead of the 4 you all others saw.

As she spots the creatures taking aim at JJ with their crossbows, Marigold utters a cry of alarm and flings out her hand without really even thinking...

If JJ is within touching distance, Marigold casts Shield of Faith on him. If he's not within touching distance but is within close range, she'll use her Reach Spell feat to increase the range on Shield of Faith from touch to close range. Either way, if it works JJ should get a +3 deflection bonus to his AC for the next 7 minutes!

Painfully aware that they're at quite the disadvantage due to height and the awkward terrain, Marigold calls on Sarenrae's blessing for them all in order to even the odds a bit before hustling up the stairs after the others.

"Ain't got the range... Once I'm closer I'll let 'em spit fire an' lead!"


Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Marigold quickly raises his hands and creates a faith shield that deflects one of the bolts coming for JJ.

Kikinnin moves up the stairs while looking attentive for any incoming bolt.

JJ looks into the protection of the structure entrance finding a couple of corridors and a massive door.

Marigold casts prayer, improving the party chances.

Maxim casts a spell and two magic missiles fly over to the fish eyes bursting one of the kuo-toa guards.

The Kuo-toa shout something to one another "Kei te he ruuku! Whakamatea ia te tuatahi!"

Kuo-toa:

"There is a wizard! Kill him first!"

The guards reload their hand crossbows and shot, this time on Maxim.

JJ:
Red and green-tinted frescoes cover the walls in this largely empty chamber. A set of carved stone doors stands opposite the main entrance, flanked on the left by a fresco of a frog-creature carrying a strange staff with two-tined forks on both ends, and on the right by a squat male humanoid in plate armor with a black sphere where his head should be. Frescoes to either side depict hundreds of red, spear-wielding kuo-toas marching through Darkland caverns. Curved shards of what look like thin, fragile porcelain cover the floor. Passageways lead east and west from here.

The paint on the humanoid fresco is much fresher than the other fres­coes, which are starting to crack and peel.

As soon as the ambush starts, Juraan casts a spell to get an advantage:

And then moves up stealthy-like:

Juraan continues moving with stealth …

when Juraan disappears as Ryan calls for him to get up the steps, Ryan shrugs and shakes his head, as he runs up the stairs himself. using agile feet to ignore difficult terrain - use 1/6

Travel Domain:

Agile Feet (Su): As a free action, you can gain increased mobility for 1 round. For the next round, you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Kikinnin sees frogmen just far enough way to make it unwieldy to move towards them, while behind him, a little gap, with the high ground, presents itself. He moves alongside Maxim, and tries to cuff the Green breathing down Marigold's neck.

"Eep!" Marigold squeaks in surprise as two of the kuo-toa suddenly leap down upon herself and Juraan. With her position on the stairs precarious, she has little choice but to drop her longspear and draw her dagger as she attempts to stab her attacker.

Kikinnin profits his height advantage to deliver a strong swing of his axe that opens a wide gash in the green kuo-toa!

Profiting the dwarf's distraction, Marigold quickly stabs the same frog-man with a dagger.

JJ moves around the corner and stabs in the ribs the first kuo-toa he finds.

Ryan moves to the front in support of his companion and smashes in the head of the other kuo-toa.

The yellow kuo-toa jumps to the side avoiding Juraan's acid sphere. The professor pops-up suddenly appearing in the middle of the stairs.

The detonation of Maxim's pistol reverberates on Bhal-Hamatugn's entrance, while the Kuo-toa in front can do nothing to avoid the bursting bullet that opens a big wound in his back.

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Marigold has little choice but to step back down the stairs and next to the now-visible Juraan. Though she knows it might cost her, she attempts to conjure forth another small ball of fire to burn the kuo-toa that threaten to surround the two of them!

Marigold takes a 5 foot step back down to her current position and uses her SoSS revelation. As it's a SU it doesn't provoke any AoOs but since it is still a ranged attack of sorts then it might provoke from Red and White in that fashion, I'm not 100% sure. At any rate, she'll aim to blast Yellow & Green but if Green is dead then she'll get Yellow and Red instead.

The cleric makes his Abadar sign up and shouts with power. A burst of energy takes everyone around, unblessing Abadar's enemies!

Kikinnin swings axe, and he gets once thanks to his flanking with Marigold! The kuo-toa seems barely managing to stand on foot.

JJ stabs the kuo-toa in front, his sword going close to the creature's heart! It somehow manages to survive and block the other attacks with his shield.

A voice raises from the eastern passage "Yes! Hit them! End them!"

Marigold steps back and raises her hands sending forth a comet of burning stars over the Kuo-toa in the stairs!

The gunmage shifts toward the new foe (5ft Step) as he enchants his pistol Swift Action - Arcane Strike).

He levels his hand-gunne and fires (Standard Action - Ranged Touch @ Black):

Stuck in the middle, Kikinnin looks back and forth between vulnerable Marigold and foolhardy JJ. He figures he can reach both, but a trip down the stairs to support the halfling girl might make it more difficult for him to get back to JJ in time.

"The boy looks close to keeling over, Ryan. You able to mend his wounds a bit, so he can remain standing a while longer?"

Looking her over, the black-beard realizes that the boy is in far worse condition. He moves forward to engage with Black. He swings a little less accurately for his frustration.

Marigold attempts to swipe at one of the remaining kuo-toas as it tries to step behind her, but her reaction times are slow and the swing easily misses!

As Juraan focuses his attention on the kuo-toa that had stepped behind her, Marigold falls further back down the stairs and attempts to take Red out of the equation...

...as a blast of color suddenly erupts from her fingertips!

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Ryan fails to hit with his mace, while Kikinnin comes at the help of the group and cuts down the black one in combination with JJ.

JJs attacks also fights the Kuo-toa back, dropping green.

Juraan's sphere burns red, as yellow is already dead, then the white Kuo-toa avoids its own turn. He strengthens his bow, but the arrow fails when he tries to avoid harming Marigold.

Seeing black already collapsed, Maxim shots and brings down the red Kuo-toa. The frog-man falls and rolls on the stairs.

Marigold casts a spell the remaining kuo-toa resists before turning back on her!

Kikinnin looks about the floor, a little put off that their initial encounter with the Kuo Toa degenerated into violence so quickly. When he moves up enough to identify the owner of the voice, he addresses it.

"Hey now. We are not welcome, I understand that. But you've got a voice that we can understand, and you could have told us to leave, instead of insisting on our heads."

Seeing one of the frog-men still standing, he moves in front of it, allowing it a chance to stab at him if it's not too tired, but not before raising his shield, and demonstrating to the voice that they're not complete savages. Standard Action- Total Defense

"You going to tell your frog friend to stand down, or are we forced to fell him ourselves?"

Juraan moves the acidic flaming sphere to attack the remaining fish man (White):

Tired of apparently being a prime target of the kuo-toas, Marigold scowls and attempts to simply shank the one remaining target that she has since her magic apparently doesn't work on them.

He then moves toward where the voice emanated from;

Ryan and JJ press on the remaining kuo-toa inside the structure without much success, although JJ scores a hit on it.

The kuo-toa looks with fierce savagery at Kikinnin while the dwarf tries to speak.

Red Ref DC 16: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Juraan's sphere is dodged by the kuo-toa, while his adjustment to not harming Marigold makes Juraan's arrow to fail as well.

Juraan:

I think you have not applied the -4 penalty for not having Precise Shot, but let me know if I am incorrect

Marigold swings his mace but fails to land it on the Kuo-toa.

Maxim reloads his gun and moves further in.

"Yeees! Help me! There are more frog-ones, help me quick!" you hear a voice coming from past the portcullis at the East.

Without considerations for talking the two remaining kuo-toa fearlessly try to push you away from Bhal-Hamatugn.
