I'm contemplating the choice between fighter and ranger levels myself. The favoured terrain option and extra skill points tempt me. Weighed against that is advancement so that various high-level fighter-only feats are available. I'm also considering the merits of Leadership.
In your case, I think you're better off advancing in an existing class unless you've got a particular favoured enemy in mind for that first ranger level. Better to open up access to some of the higher level stuff in an existing class, I think. I see a second rage power on the barbarian track, if that appeals, plus you'd get extra rounds of rage. Alternatively, there's access to those advanced fighter feats, plus the bonus feat.

Already posted that info in this post here:
http://paizo.com/campaigns/TheSeersJourneyDMDownrightamazed/gameplay&pa ge=80#3958
However, I have no idea how you guys are going to split it, or what you're going to do with any of it. That part will probably need to be RP'd out, or at least discussed here.

DM Downrightamazed |

Oh that way. You won't be able to take 20 on the perception or DD checks to find or disarm traps, obviously, but you (or whomever) can take 20 on identifying the magic items. We can handwave that part, but someone will need to make the appropriate Perception and DD rolls for anything you're checking for traps.

Jorzan |

Ok thanks.
Roll 1 Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24
Disable: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25
Roll 2 Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
Disable: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27
(different looking chest)
Roll 1 Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
Disable: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28
Is Zan able to give Aid Another on any of those?
And so what are the rest of the magic items identified as? (eg The Staff and any others?)

Jorzan |

Ah ok, I think I was a little mixed up in which room was which. My plan was to have Jorzan take out the two guards playing guards. (Can we also see the layout of that room and the ice room DRA? And together I think Jorzan and Zan should have been able to scope out them all)
With the new info though, I'm thinking we may need to revise our plan a bit. I'm pretty sure Kelne will still wish to rescue the monkey man first. (Yes?)
But I think we need to take out the Wizard first, which Jorzan should still be able to do. I'm thinking: Cast darkness around himself, go invisible, shadowjump into the wizard room and surprise attack the wizard, hopefully taking him out or at least knocking him out with the poisons. Hurin and Justahl and bust in and hopefully take advantage of the hopefully dark-blind guards. He could probably do it all without the invisibility of one of the fighters wants the ring though.
That's about all I got so far. Can't really see how we can accomplish everything without setting off an alarm though. Anyone else think of anything?
And perhaps Jorzan should first climb through the window and fully check out the ice room, desk and trunks?

Kelne |

Well, assuming the info from the shadow's been relayed, that kind of sets things in motion. Kelne's not going to delay saving the vanaran while they come up with a plan better than what they've got. I think the plan's basically sound in any case. No refinements to add beyond what's been said.

DM Downrightamazed |

The room with guards playing cards is really straightforward; it's just a 30'x30' square with a couple plain tables in it. The two guards in there are the only people in the room. They have food on the table with them; it's basically the break room.
@Jorzan: If you want to examine the ice room, we'll need to RP it out. Doing so will be a nontrivial task. I'll let you decide if you want to do that while Kelne busts in to save the Vanaran.

Jorzan |

No no, Kelne attacks the bulette will make too much noice and Jorzan definitely wants to get the jump on the wizard. He's not too worried about two guards. Astar can probably handle them if necessary.
Just going to update Jorzan as quickly as pissible right now and then get a post in asap.

Lol that's what I am running int as well Hurin, a newborn, 2 year old And post surgery wife = little to no free time at home. I head back to work soon and will get more time :)
Still though this game rocks :)

Jorzan |

Ah, dang it, you're right Kelne. Totally missed all of that, thanks for the catch. If it's ok to assume that Jorzan knew all that even though I didn't (or had forgotten) then we can just say he never brought out that wand at all. If not, no worries : P

Sir Justahl of NeoWald |

Ah I see the back saddle thing now, has Justahl been carrying her into battle like that? I thought that was for walking around.
I often do, as there is seldom a safe spot to stash her before a fight. As dangerous as it might be to carry her into battle, dropping her off and telling her to stay out of trouble is just begging the DM to kidnap her.
They already got my horse, they ain't getting her too!
DM Downrightamazed |

Actually, looking at the description for true strike, it looks as if, firstly, it's personal only, so only Jorzan can benefit from his own casting. Secondly, it has to be used before the end of the following round. So by the time Jorzan uses shadow jump, the casting will have expired.
This is all correct, of course. If you guys want to use True Strike, you will have to go about it a different way.

Jorzan |

So the wizard was a Dwarf??
Sooo, I guess I failed to mention that Jorzan's plan was to poison the wizard into unconsciousness so we could later question him? Ahem...
Maybe we should have sent Hurin after the two guards playing cards?? He certainly is effective at killing dudes at least. Youch! Anyone for Wizard Pate??: P

DM Downrightamazed |

Hi guys! GenCon has devoured all my time these last couple days; working to bring updates by Sunday. In the meantime, here are a few pics I've taken so far. Sorry they're not great, but photos are generally the last thing on my mind while I'm at 'Con, so it's a small miracle I took any at all. :-p
Highlight of the Con so far has been getting to meet and chat with Wayne (and Mrs.) Reynolds, Tyler Walpole, and Lexxy Douglass. All are just phenomenally nice people. Wayne signed my deluxe edition of "Visions of WAR" that I'd just bought, then signed all my prints, too. Even more amazing; I bought the book on Thursday and the prints on Friday, and he remembered my name from one day to the next. Unbelievable. On Sunday I'll be in some seminars related to writing for and the development of Pathfinder, run by various Paizo folks. Tomorrow is Iron GM, the Mercedes Lackey/Larry Dixon reading and talk, then the were-cabbage party. Good times!!

DM Downrightamazed |

Just posting to indicate I still intend to get back into this; I've just been having a lot of work and home things pop up, as well as some project opportunities that might help me out career-wise quite a bit.
No worries, sir. Ya gotta take care of business. :-) We all eagerly await your return.

Jorzan |

Ha! Great vids!
So, I guess for ease sake we're saying Jorzan's darkness has faded? Or that it didn't got off?
Mostly it's because I'm deciding if Jorzan should go off on Hurin for slaughtering the Wizard like that in front of the invisible (or was invisible?) Cassandra.

Jorzan |

No worries Hurin, all good. The lack of bolding was the result of me posting from My phone (annoying to find, and use, those brackets sometimes : P )
And anyway, it all seemed to work well and fit RPwise with the relationship the two of them have anyway ; )
@ALL: Oooooh! This is getting exciting!! We gonna face off against a BBEG???

@DRA: Hey Boss, still waiting on a couple PMs from ya, whenever you get a chance?

Gray Moribund |

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted.
It's been so long, I forgot the game started again.. Even tho I see the DM almost every week in RL, the pbp games are almost never brought up.
Anyways, I have a few things on my plate right now and don't really have the heart to keep it up. Im not sure if I'll have to much time to post on these here boards in the next few weeks anyways.
Since I don't think i'll be playing for awhile, DRA is free to do whatever he chooses to with Gray. Have him wonder off into the sunset, or just be a random npc, until I find the time and urge to get back into the game.
Cheers to you all and it was pleasure to play with you.. Hope to see you all in game soon.

Jorzan |

Did we still have mounts and stuff? Cuz man, it's hard to keep a ride in this game! ; )
And I'm assuming we were able to bring everything we wanted from the Sleds with us? We never really got a chance to question the Elves either, about this area or what they may know of what's going on around here. Did we??

DM Downrightamazed |

The snow-elves wouldn't have been much help; they're WAYYYY out of their territory, just like you guys are.
As for treasure, as long as you guys can carry it, I have no problem with you having taken whatever you wanted. It was loot, so, have at 'er. None of the magic items have been identified yet, though, so keep that in mind. Nasmarra tried to identify one of them but failed the check.
As for the three chests, Jorzan was able to get two of the three open. Here's how it went down:
The first of the chests marked with the crest of Stormfare was guarded with a trap that the shadowdancer easily disabled, and it contains three vials of what appears to be brackish, faintly glowing swamp water. The vials are packed very carefully, and labelled with longitude/latitude. One of them has the word "Deathleech" scribbled in the margin.
The second chest from Stormfare was guarded by a more difficult trap, but Jorzan overcame it as well. It has a magical amulet of some sort in it, there are arcane characters and a carving of a closed eye on it. It is made of jade, and banded with silver.
The third chest, when Jorzan attempts to open it, gets suddenly extremely hot, forcing him to back away or be badly burned. When he does get it open, all that remains in side are a few whiffs of ash and the smell of charred paper. Nothing can be salvaged.

Jorzan |

Cool, thanks Boss, good to know.
And wow, failed it with a roll of 28, that musta been some trap. And sucks too, as that was likely the most important one. Sorry guys!
Oh, also, I added all the loot to Jorzan's sheet under Loot List if anyone needs/wants to check it.
PS Did you all add to your profile the parting gifts that Van-Heara gave us when we left Stormfare?
