Tatu "Tanque" Skarskind |
Tanque's face screws up in concentration.
"What, we have to bleed our way through all these doors? We'll be dead before we get halfway to our goal...Maybe."
The young man looks to his companions.
"You sure Reya is on the up and up?"
Tanque sighs, and lowers his greataxe a moment.
"Alynthar. That paperstuff you got - what if we put blood on that, and then just pressed it on the glowpanels? Might work for a little while, and save on the redstuff... Or black, in Conall's case." Tanque finishes with a half-smile to Conall.
Charlie Schmidt |
"Something is trying to dig its way out." Charlie says, nonchalantly. "And I've no idea which rune is which. Maybe ask Reya which is which?" she tilts her head.
So many roleplay doors. And doors we -know- are trapped and -must- do something about... ugh.
Alynthar the Unchained |
"That... might work. But parchment isn't the best material for it. I suggest we use a bandage from Charlie's healer's kit." Alynthar says to Tanque.
Alynthar, remembering that Reya said she would be unable to talk to the party once they got off the lift, makes his way back to the platform.
"Hey Reya," he calls, "You forgot to tell us how to open the door. Could you describe the appropriate rune to us?"
Alynthar the Unchained |
"Thank you," Alynthar calls, then heads down the hall to the party once more. The rune we're looking for is an x with a horizontal line through it," Alynthar explains, "but Reya also said that the door shouldn't have been closed in the first place, so we need to be careful."
He then examines the wall near the door for the appropriate rune.

Charles "Shield" Gossamar |
Taking the cue from the "dead guy", Shield sacrifices for the described rune.
-1 max HP
"Everyone ready?" Shield takes a defensive position with his shield braced in front of him, and presses the rune! "Here goes nothing!"
RJ the DM |
The door slides open soundlessly. The room beyond it is dark, only lit by flickering blue runes that illuminate cube-like shapes floating through the air. The sound of scrabbling claws Charlie heard earlier is louder now, and accompanied by hissing. The air smells stale and feels dry and dead. Beyond the floating objects you catch glimpses of the crucible, the multitudes of runes carved into it glow strongly.
Charlie Schmidt |
"I... really did not expect for it to be -right there-. But, you know. Skittery things." she looks around in the room. "I probably should have asked for a few lightsources. I have matches, but don't think that will help all that much. FP if we want everything down. But do we?"

as all you can do is hear skittering and hisses, a really damn high knowledge arcana or nature.

Knowledge Arcana/Religion/Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
There. That oughtta do it- I'm almost certain that they're one of those categories, and I have the same bonus for all of them. Now what are they?
RJ the DM |
you know I honestly forgot you had dark vision
Rats the size of small dogs cling to the crates. Their bodies are smooth stone where they would normally be covered in fur, their eyes seem to be gem stones, and runes are engraved all through out their bodies. The rats teeth and claws are some sort of dull metal.
you're pretty sure they're some sort of animated construct, probably to do with the weird magic of this world judging by the runes. they were probably original trash collectors or garbage disposals of some kind, but they're obviously aggressive now
Alynthar the Unchained |
It's cool. I tend to forget that not everybody has it- I always pick a race with darkvision.
"It looks like these are some sort of construct made for this citadel. They were probably originally garbage collectors, but they've gone feral, so to speak."Alynthar tells the others.
Charlie Schmidt |
As Charlie has no way of seeing into the room... she'll wait til there -is- a way to see!
"Good that you can see in the dark." she nodded.
Tatu "Tanque" Skarskind |
I do, but I'm also asleep when you guys are posting.
Tanque steps up next to Shield in the corridor and switches on his lightstick to illuminate the creatures.
Likely sending them into a crazed frenzy of flesh-tearing, rabid gem-implanting terror…
"Woah. They look dangerous... and then "and kinda disgusting. Poor lil dudes. I guess if they get aggressive we'll have to mash them…"
I moved my avatar - hope that's ok.
Alynthar the Unchained |
Why not move to an attack position?
Also, screw this.
Alynthar takes aim and fires his crossbow at the rat directly in front of the party.
Crossbow Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Crossbow Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Charlie Schmidt |
Charlie moves in behind Tanque and Shield, eyeing up the situation, now that they can see.
She readies an action to give the first one attacked a good jerk.
Aid:AC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 +3 AC (helpful!) to the first person adjacent to Charlie to get attacked by a runerat!
Conall O'Kanis |
When my action comes up, I'd like: free action: Drop my sword --> Standard Action: Cast Bless --> Move action: Pick up sword ---> Free action: 5ft step forward. If that action goes through, Conall's turn describes as...
Conall lets his blade fall to the ground, as though it were worthless to him, and raises his hand as though issuing a decree to the masses. If a voice unlike his own, stronger and even more self-certain, he announces:
"Ours is the blessed legion. We know no fear, and no failure."
Each of you feel as though a hidden gem of resolve has been found within yourselves.
Conall himself seems to come out of a trance, and looks about quickly, picking up his discarded blade, and taking a step forward with a snarl.
Charlie Schmidt |
Charlie lofts a brow at Conall...
These people were going to make an excellent case study, some day.
Alynthar the Unchained |
That should be "ours," not "our's." Sorry. Grammar Nazi. Also, did you move your token on the map?
Alynthar the Unchained |
Wait, can't you just hold the sword in your not-off hand (I'm blocking on what you call that...), and cast the spell with your off hand? Then you could move forward to a combat position. That's what I do with my crossbow/staff/dagger.
Charlie Schmidt |
He's roleplaying, methinks :P
Conall O'Kanis |
Heavy shield in my offhand prevents anything, since it says I have to hold it. I plan to ditch it eventually, as the fighting style of The First Mortal is supposed to be 1h blade w/o shield.
To Charlie: It was roleplay inspired by mechanical demand, ; D
Charlie Schmidt |
Sorry, Tanque! I missed your question. Yeah. Traits:
Helpful (combat) - +3 instead of +2 when aiding another.
Alchemical Prodigy (Region) - +1 CL for Duration of Extracts.
From the myth-weaver's sheet. I totally forgot to put it on my profile page!
Charles "Shield" Gossamar |
Shield reaches back to one of the side pockets of his backpack and pulls out a white plastic cylinder. He bends it until he hears a crack and shakes it vigorously. Holding it in front of him it sheds a green glow lighting up the area in a 30' radius.
sunrod
"There we go! That will help." Looking inside the room, "Of course, some sort of R.O.U.S's." Shield pauses for a moment and realizes he's not on earth and they party would not understand the reference, "Rodents of Unusual Size. It's from a movie, but I suppose none of you would know what I'm talking about."
Charlie Schmidt |
"Now would be a good time for that rope. If we tied someone to the rope, and sent them into the room, they may be able to simply fly to the Crucible, and then we could use the rope to pull them back quickly."
Charlie offered, still ready to pull someone out of a rat's maws.
Alynthar the Unchained |
"Or," Alynthar begins, "You could give me the rope, and nobody would have to go in at all."
We still get xp for defeating the rats, even if we don't actually fight them, right?
Alynthar the Unchained |
In that case
Alynthar takes the rope from Shield and casts Mage Hand. Turning to Shield, he says "Hold onto my cloak- I need to get a little closer to be able to reach the Crucible."
Once Shield has a decent grip on him, Alynthar steps into the storeroom and uses Mage Hand to bring one end of the rope to the Crucible and tie the rope around it. Once the rope is tied around the Crucible, he tells Shield to pull him back into the hallway, then hands the rope to Shield to pull the Crucible towards the party.
Alynthar the Unchained |
"Everybody give me a hand with this," Alynthar says.
