Wind howls through the trees, as it does just before a wicked storm breaks. Mathilda calls out to Eri.

"Oh Yani! It's abysmal! There is this 'Mr. Shadow', and he's lying to us. He thinks he's immune to super bright light, so if you have any, that might be useful! ... If you have any Ghost Touch Arrows too, that would also be very helpful! I bet he would not be able to reform if we hit him with something like that again!"

Cole misses all but one of his shots, but the one that hits is devastating!
Serra fires once again at the glittering shade near the ceiling. Sorry, all. Spell resistence is a thing I've been forgetting. Can you roll spell resistence, please, when appropriate. The number to beat is 21
Jurin tries, but but somehow misses the shade.

Clearing the ledge of the pit, Eli walks upon the air, trudging forward just enough to fully take in the continuing battle. Failing to arrive into the fray, he decides to bolster his companions from afar. Each and every one of them.

Cast Blessing of Fervor.

"Alright, let's see what we can do to dismiss this shadow. Well, what you can do, at least. I'll get there. Or not. Still feeling a little reduced here." He spots the shadow. "You the one who knocked me into that blasted pit? I have favors to repay then."

A sound like a heavy wooden crate being dragged across a rough oaken floor emanates from the Bow briefly as Mathilda snorts.
Her voice revererates in sync with the strobe. "You're wrong Mr. Shadow. The Abyss is just going to have to go hungry this time!"
"C'mon Boys and Jestak! Let's finish him off!"

GMVerdigris:
Tilly keeps up the strobe, trying to extend it externally toward Mr. Shadow. You know. Just in case.

Eli finally surfaces, and calls upon a fervent blessing to aid his friends. Jestak, Irritated at her inability to reach the creature, cat calls from below.

"What? You will hide now?! That is no scary. *THIS* is scary!" she taunts as she shakes her weapon in the creature's general direction.

Due to Cole's deadly arrow, the creature loses control of whatever it was he was trying to do. An ungodly howl fades away as his summon fails.

"Fine, we'll do something else then!"

Suddenly, a large writhing decapitated snake rises from the floor to strike at Cole.

Cole manages to strike the creature with one of his arrows, injuring him a bit more. one hit, for 10 damage

Serra and Jurin are up!

Edit: Actually, with a surge, Eli's spell works!. That brings the creature just a hair's breadth away from death, and then Cole's arrow, so.....

Eli's spell shreds the creature to an inch of it's life! Cole follows up with a barrage of arrows. Only one hits, but it is enough. The demon frays apart to nothing, not even remnants to fall on the ground!

Jestak HOWLLLLS!!!! "YOU PROMISED!!!!!" She Stomps her boots upon the ground and nearly turns upon Cole with her sword held High... but at the last moment calms... her breath ragged." Y-you...p-promised!"

and we are out of initiative!

Cole quickly knocks another arrow, whether to use on Jestak or perhaps some unseen foe isn't clear. He scans the room for hostiles just in case, though he doesn't expect to find any.

As the seconds pass without action, Cole quickly removes his pack, pulls out some bunches of arrows, and carefully refills his nearly empty main quiver. He frowns at his remaining store and makes a mental note to obtain more - and quickly.

Then he straightens up, shoulders his bow, and searches the chamber in earnest. "Someone, secure the flag please." he asks as he searches.

Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21

Finding nothing of substance, he returns to the group. "Well, is that it?" he wonders of the banner.

Upon approaching the wrinkled fabric upon the altar, it slowly smoothes out. Its colors call to the good within. any good aligned spell caster or lawful good character within 10 feet. The brave scarlet of its background brightens, as if in welcome, while the sword seems to gleam with a holy light. Yes, this does appear to be the Sword of Valor.

Eli nods to Cole, approaching the Sword of Valor, and studying it reverentially before touching it. It's a welcome sight that, until now, he didn't know he sought. He reaches out to touch it, finally. First, he picks it up from the altar, turning it over, looking for any damage to it, though he somehow doesn't think that his Mending would have any luck repairing what may have been wrought against It.

He then holds It up for the others to see, and brings It to them for their studies. When it seems a good enough time to introduce themselves to the Sword, Eli folds it carefully, and tucks it away, readying for their return above.

Only after it's stowed away does the old man look upon his comrades, noticing the extent of their injuries. "Alright, I suppose we should heal up a bit before we head above. Wouldn't want to come all this way, only to fail to make it out..."

Eli's got a Cure Serious Potion, and healing to boot for the day. He's looking to heal up his Constitution as well...

Mathilda can't help but warble in anticipation. Impressed by the banner display, she lets out a reverent whistle.

"OH! He's fetching! Are we going to meet Him in person, or just His picture?!"

Aasimarra bends over breathing hard as the shadow falls. At the same time, his altering of self seems to fall as well, resulting his aggressive belly and extra weight returning, no longer hidden behind the magic of the scale.

Serra wipes the sweat from his brow, trying to catch his breath. He scans for Kastor, worried for the lad as always. He worried the boy had fallen into the pit, then smiles at the boy as Kastor hides behind the altar.

Serra did not see the young squire move to the altar, but feels it was an appropriately wise move to hide there until the demon was dead. With the squire safe, Serra looks at the mighty iced wounds in his armor and flesh suffered from the claws of the demon.

Serra's eyes and ranseur spinning in reaction. Serra waddles over to intercept Jeska and protect Cole (but not Cole's hat).

"What are you going on about, Jeska? What promises?" Serra stands ready to protect himself and Cole.

After things have calmed down, Serra will take his time to examine the sword and banner, basking in the warmth and happy feeling coming from the cloth.

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29 Spellcraft (sword)
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31 Spellcraft (banner)

What kind of warm feeling is Serra getting?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. The sword is part of the banner, part of the design. "The Sword of Valor" is a battle standard, a picture of a sword on a red field.

Upon touching the banner, the innate *Good* of it seems to permeat all things. It is a boon to Good, and anyone good that, having touched it and paid homage, would surely be spurred to better acts of bravery against evil. Banner

Banner info:

"The Inheritor herself carried this crimson banner into battle during the Shining Crusade. An army commander who carries the Sword of Valor increases the DV and OM of her army by 4 against armies of undead or evil outsiders. Yet the Sword of Valor’s greatest power lies not in offense but in defense. Mounted firmly upon an interior wall in a visible, public place, the Sword of Valor creates a 10-mile-radius area that bars demons and those who worship demons from using teleportation spells and effects and imparts on such creatures a –4 penalty to Armor Class and on all saving throws. Once per month while the banner is mounted on a wall, a worshiper of Iomedae within 30 feet of the banner can use it to summon a planetar to protect the banner and its surroundings for 1 day. Any nonevil creature that sleeps within a 1-mile radius becomes immune to fear effects from demons and demon worshipers for 24 hours."

Serra:
Though Kastor is very glad to have the banner back in the hands of Good, he does not approach it at all. He does smile at Serra, and approaches when he is away from the banner. "You have done well, Sir. I think this place may yet be turned back to its original purpose."

Re-kitted, and very happy to have the banner in the party's grasp, Cole suggests, "Let's get out of here and back to the army. I suspect there is more to kill and drive off in this city, but not today."

"Today we celebrate our accomplishments with the army and we'll face tomorrow fresh."

He muses, "I might even sleep tonight..." He considers what might be in that graveyard, so close to their camp, "But maybe not."

Serra, portly and re-hindered in his girth, holds up the Sword, aka the Banner, for all to see. He seems almost reverent as he explains what he thinks the Banner does. Feel free to read the above spoiler.

"Tis said the Inheritor herself carried this crimson banner into battle during the Shining Crusade. If we wish to hold territory, be it this castle or another, this Banner will protect us. In addition, it will call upon the strongest of the host of heaven to protect the home upon which is stands. Tis a holy artifact that has not yet been turned to the dark. We are blessed."

Serra looks down at the rents in his skin, festering wounds that he ignores for the glory he holds in his hands. "Yes, a night of rest would do me good as well. And yes, we must protect this Banner."

You feel a bit perplexed, if not completely discombobulated.

Jurin floats back down as the banner is fondled, looking sadly at his sword.

"If they don't bleed how do you know they're real?"

"Rest would be fine, I can get back to baking. Assuming we'll use the banner to protect us?"

"Well, we're hardly an army, but why not. Let us unfurl it and carry it before our little group as we greet the army. It will do wonders for morale - those Paladins will go absolutely bonkers."

He takes out a spear and a javelin from his quiver. He threads the javelin through the banner, and lashes it to the end of the spear. He hoists the whole thing into the air.

"Who would like to carry it forth into the sun? Jurin? Serra? Ely?" he hands the banner over with reverence.

Eli listens to Cole and his Bow, then considers the archer's suggestion.

"Well, Cole, you left your name off your list. I'm thinking either you, our leader, or possibly Serra, in his angelic form, might prove suitable to bear the Standard when we gain the ramparts. If we're confident that we'll be able to hold onto It before then, all the better."

"Yeah, Cole, you should carry, but if you'd rather not, I can. Or I can ask Kastor to carry it...if it's not too heavy, that is," Serra replies, happy to regain his angelic form at some point.

Serra does not say that either Jurin or Eli would be good standard bearers or not. He doesn't know what to feel. He turns to Kastor.

"See that, boy? See how that banner enhances the knight and everyone around? That's a true knightly presence. Feel that. Feel the *good* there. That's what we knights should aspire to. That's what we want," Serra says to the young squire.

Jurin recoils from the banner and shakes his head.

"Not a chance. Let Kastor carry it."

Cole considers and would have Kastor carry it, "Serra, I think you, or your able squire, should carry the banner. I want to keep my hands free to draw my bow quickly, should we be attacked while making this short pilgrimage."

"I'd rather it be Kastor as Jurin suggests, but it is heavy..." he trails off wondering how the army would react to that. He shakes his head that he even suggested it but lets it stand.

The room is filled with the light sound of celebration bells ringing as Mathilda chortles with glee.

"Oh Good! It's settled then! Our Brave Knight Sir Rusty will carry forth The Sword of Valor before us!"

Serra takes the Sword, stretching it out and trying to find the best way to carry it. Eventually, he attaches it to his ranseur and wraps it about until they can affix it to the ramparts.

"I'll take it. But we should go directly to the roof so that we might attach it to the walls. With this...with this we will protect this city," Serra says solemnly holding the artifact before him.

"Lead on, I had bear this."

Putting one fat foot in front of the other, Serra follows the group out.

Map

As Serra and the group carry the "Sword of Valor" out before them, the lesser evils fall back. The undead are quickly slain within the dungeon and without, the armies rally at the coming of the light. Thus are the ghosts of Drezen's past and its current demons defeated.

Once the standard is fitted fully to the walls of Drezen, the wave of it's magic extends out a hundred fold; up to a 10 mile radius around the Fortress' walls. Soon after, once word has reached the queen, does she send word of more troops, coming to help in the full recapture and re-dedication of Drezen.

Mathilda's voice rings out crystal-clearly at the party makes their way back toward the surface bearing the standard.

"Oh look everyone! Doesn't Rusty look so shiny and knightly carrying the banner? Begone from this city all of you horrid little dirty evil things! Never return!"

As they make their way toward the ramparts, she bubbles on excitedly, "I can't wait to see what our accommodations in the city will look like! I hope there are lots of flowers, and we'll need to get a new ribbon for me -- especially if the Queen ends up seeking audience with us!"
