Anyone who falls in the water automatically sees the results of the DC 20 perception check earlier on the previous page.
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
Anyone subject to the harpies' song must continue swimminoug towards one of the harpies, 75 feet away. You cannot take any other standard, move, or swift actions, but you can speak. The effect wears off after two rounds, so only your this turn and your next one are forced movement. After that you will not be under any compulsion.
Mundarion
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Rats. But there is one more thing to check:
Nightwing's will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Double rats.
Mundarion stops juggling his throwing darts putting the ones he had been playing with back in his weapons harness. With Nightwing riding on his shoulder as usual, Mundarion heads to the water.
With the extra arrows and throwing darts Mundarion picked up earlier he's at medium encumbrance. But at least he's still got a +3 Swim check modifier after taking that into account. Nightwing would not Swim in any event. He'd either find a relatively dry spot on Mundarion to ride on or fly circles around Mundarion if there was no good place to ride.
Midiotoziggeroto
Oh ya? Watch this perception check XD
Also, how high is the room? We are approx 10ft above the water right now? Fow far apart are the balconies? I intend to do some "flying" here :)
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
My perception sucks :(
POP!Midioto appears in the middle of the balcony overlooking the body of water.
Hey look! There are other exits over there! I wonder what those bird women are. We should take a better look. Anyon have any ideas?
Midioto then starte muttering something under his breath then with a POP! he is hovering a few doven feet off the balcony in mid air, altho he looks extremely shaky doing so.
Edit: retconing! That didnt get sent last night ^_^
Midiotoziggeroto
Oh wow! Those birds look interesting! I have got to get a closer look!
POP! POP!
Midioto double teleports over towards the harpies (on 1st turn) nearly doing an unintentional summersault whike he goes.
how far away are we from them? Im traveling 50ft a round in a direct line above the water.
Also, dont worry adventuring comrades! Ill save you!! Ill pop you out of there in a jiffy as soon as i am over this dratted compulsion!
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
Haha, i actually quire enjoy doing poetry :) turning in my man card -_-
Still, not too bad :)
Btw, i was supposed to be hovering when the harpies started singing... Mind if i still count as 25ft above the balcony?[dice=will save]1d20+5
what a powerful song >.> did anyone pass it?
I'll assume this was meant to be here and not in the discussion thread.
Midio flies above the water towards one of the harpies.Yessai jumps off the bridge and falls into the water.
Gemheart jumps off the bridge and falls into the water.
De'Arv'Ki jumps off the bridge and falls into the water.
Thomas still needs to make a will save.
From behind the wooden platform at the end of the bridge (above the middle of the 'T'), a green-scaled humanoid with webbed hands and feat raises its head out of the water!
[dice=knowledge (nature) DC 12]This is a sahuagin, an underwater hunter who was drawn into the Pyramid when its entrance manifested at the bottom of an ocean or on a plane of water. Sahuagin cannot survive for long outside of the water, but can communicate with those on land.[/spoiler]
In a calm, if slightly rough, voice, the creature speaks. What she says depends on whether or not Thomas made his will save.
"Well? Will you not do as I ask? Your friends have fallen victem to my harpies. Bring me the Head of Vyrellis from the room you just came from, and no harm will come to them. In the water, my servants have surrounded them. If you do not bring me the Head of Vyrellis your friends will surely perish. "

"But,"
she continues,
"If you think you will have trouble defeating the beast on your own, I will allow one of your weak-minded friends to join you. You may choose which one to bring."
I'll wait to resolve the sahuagins' attacks until after we know whether Thomas made his save.

BTW, i was 20ft or less up the wall the door is set in, doesn't that mean it takes two turns for me to enter the water? (2x move 1st turn, standard action JUMP 2nd turn)...

probably could jump from the wall. jump isnt a standard action.
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
Oops, I meant to say Mundarion jumps into the water, De'arv'ki is the one still on land (since his initiative is after the NPCs, who haven't moved yet). De'arv'ki will jump into the water on his turn:P (the platform is small enough for Mundarion to reach the water from the back).
Thanks for the correction on Mundarion's initiative.
Mundarion
Oh well (sigh). At least it's still water so Mundarion should simply be able to take 10 on Swim checks, at least until combat starts.
I'll assume that Nightwing briefly took flight when Mundarion jumped in the water and then landed on his head after he surfaced.

De'Arv'Ki is female, not male...
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
The water is 20 feet deep. You only fell through 10 feet of air (except De'Arv'Ki), so no one with approximately human density reaches the bottom. Gemheart does reach the bottom (and stays there), but does so slowly enough to avoid falling damage. Unfortunately it will be harder for anyone but the sahuagin to rescue him...

will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
whew, had me worried there for a second.
Get out of my companions heads feather bags!
As he turns around to face the swampy creature as he considers his offer, and his gaze turns dark.
Midito, please fetch the head for the creature.
Midiotoziggeroto
As soon as im free of this dratted compulsion i can start doing some limited teleporting to get people out of the water.
Midioto seems to be ignoring the seafolk in favor of getting to the harpy as soon as he can
Edit: actually if you release me i can go get the head and have an excelent plan while im at it XD
De'arv'ki Paddfoot
|
yep, however i'm one of the only ones not in the water, do you have a spell-like effect that might allow me to break free of the compulsion?
Midiotoziggeroto
yup :) apparently everyone else is a sucker for them beautiful chicken legs ^_-
Though he did say he was willing to free someone...

*sigh* I guess that's what I get for having my character's motto being "a single candle against the darkness" lol

Good luck, little Hunterrrr. Rrrrememberrrr, don't let that... brrrrute with the pit see you... i'd hate to have to... rrrrescue you, Midio...

The sahuagin in the back, apparently the leader, gives a nod to one of the harpies. Midio feels his willpower return to him.
"Then be off. Your friends shall be held here while you get the Head."
The sahuagin leader gives a nod to her followers, and they surround and attempt to secure those in the water.
De'Arv'ki jumps into the water.
The Sahuagin move to tie up those in the water. You guys should decide whether or not you want to fight back--if you don't, you are quickly tied up unharmed with your head above the water. Otherwise it will be time for some underwater combat.
Midio, Thomas, Nightblade, and Harshka are free to return to the room with the entrance pit.
Anyone in the water must make a DC 10 swim check or lose their dexterity bonus to AC, and take an extra -2 penalty to AC.
One of the non-leading sahuagin moves and attacks Gemheart
claw: 1d20 ⇒ 16, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
And full attacks him on its second turn (since the enchantment from the harpy lasts two rounds):
claw: 1d20 ⇒ 15, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
other claw: 1d20 ⇒ 14, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
bite: 1d20 ⇒ 11, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
A second sahuagin moves and attacks Yessai
trident: 1d20 ⇒ 20, nonlethal: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
rerolled for critical trident: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30 <--not a critical hit.
And full attacks her on its second turn (since the enchantment from the harpy lasts two rounds):
trident: 1d20 ⇒ 11, nonlethal: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
bite: 1d20 ⇒ 4, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The final non-leader sahuagin moves and attacks Mundarion
claw: 1d20 ⇒ 16, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
And full attacks him on its second turn (since the enchantment from the harpy lasts two rounds):
claw: 1d20 ⇒ 9, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
other claw: 1d20 ⇒ 6, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
bite: 1d20 ⇒ 10, nonlethal: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Note: Anyone in the water who chooses not to fight is tied up, with their head above the water, without harm. Simply surrender in character if you wish not to fight back.
Gemheart
wouldn't attacking us break the enchantment? i figure most times they do.
"Stop!," Gemheart bellows, underwater. "I will wait, still, in peace, but you will not bind me."
He stands there as their claws and bites beat dully upon his armor to no effect, but will not abide ropes.
Mundarion
Mundarion's Swim check:
Swim Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
With no DEX bonus and an additional-2 penalty to AC Mundarion still has an AC of 12, so only one of those attacks hits. Mundarion takes 6 points of nonlethal damage.
Mundarion draws his dagger and says: "Back off. I'm not going anywhere."
Mundarion readies a held action. He won't attack unless the Sahuagin does, but will attempt a stop thrust if he is attacked again.
Vassekh-Arokh Yessai
@DMB - why non-lethal?
Should we post two rounds of actions as well?
Swim - Take 10 [+ 1 Str, -1 ACP] = 10 to swim.
Swim: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 1 = 10 [+ 1 Str, -1 ACP] to prevent AC negative modifier against sahuagin.
Yess manages to stay afloat, and in control. She grimaces and grunts but does not cry out as the scaly creature savages her with its trident. She replies with a fell burst of primal fear, hoping to batter the assembled scalykind...
Standard Action: Fear Shroud DC 14
Not sure how many Sahuagin this gets/are in range...
Midiotoziggeroto
Huh? Where am? Oh ya, the skull.
Midioto stammers as the enchantment breaks, momentairly confused. He then double ports back to the balcony, and takes off for the stairs.
POP! POP!
second round i double teleport to the balcony. Third round i activate burst (swift action, i have 50ft ms) and head over to the stairs, trying to be sneaky and hiding around the corner at the top
stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
since i am basically on my own right now, do you want me to keep track of my own initiative track? Also, im about to pull some shinanigans on this giant >:D
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
oh yeah, i have a +5 to swim after armor check penalty, but do i still need to make it if i am standing on the bottom? since i am not really swimming.
Gemheart does not need to make a swim check.
@DMB - why non-lethal?
Because they aren't trying to kill you.
Should we post two rounds of actions as well?
No...
(I had a feeling I could have made things clearer, oh well)...I posted two rounds of actions for the sahuagin because you were charmed for one of those rounds.
The combat sequence so far was
round 1: you jump into the water-
sahuagin attack
Round 2: You are still charmed
sahuagin attack
Round 3: Now, you are uncharmed and can act normally.
With Midio gone, the initiative order is:
Yessai--23
Mundarion--22
Thomas--19
Gemheart--17
Monsters/NPCs--12
De'Arv'ki--10
In the water, Yessai unleashes her fear shroud, affecting two of the sahuagin:
sahuagin fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
other sahuagin fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
The one attacking Yessai shakes of the effect, but the one attacking Mundarion is shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds.
Gemheart, Mundarion, and Thomas still have a turn. Then the NPCs, then De'arv'ki.
---
---
---
Back in the stairwell
Gurrak is not expecting any visitors. She gazes around her room passively...
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8
and fails to notice Midio.
Mundarion
Right now Mundarion is simply going to tread water while holding his dagger ready. If the Sahuagin do not attack him further, he will not attack them. If one of them attacks him, he will use a readied action to attack as well, thrusting at his attacker with his dagger. That would then lower his initiative to whatever his attacker had. As long as Mundarion is not actually in combat he should just be able to take 10 on his Swim checks.
Mundarion would also turn to Nightwing and say, "Hide!". Nightwing would then fly off to a spot somewhere in the general area that he could make good use of his Stealth skill. The sneaky little owl has a +22 Stealth check modifier.
De'arv'ki Paddfoot
|
Not bad... gunna take me a while to find that sucka >_<
De'Arv'Ki is about as miserable as a cat can get, what with being in the water and all. She will ready an action to use her crossbow if she is attacked (after the first free attack). "I hate waterrrr..."
Midiotoziggeroto
Midioto will first send a missive to the skull.
Missive. 1 PP
Im going to teleport you to safety. Please stand by!
Then, during the surprise round I cast Dimension Swap, swapping me and the skull thingy, appearing with a Igakaboosh! right behind the giant.
Initiative!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Thomas of the Blue Blade
|
I swear, if any of my friends comes to harm than righteous fury the likes of which have not been known shall come down upon you to smite their and I shall be it's instrument!
Readied action to strike the commanding one right next to me
Midiotoziggeroto
Cant believe I rolled a 1 for initiative >.>
What is the readied action for?
Getting caught up in his little joke, Midioto stalls for a second longer than he intended, while the skull clatters to the ground a few dozen feet away. Spying his chance, midioto Pops out of existence, appearing near the skull. Then he scoops it up and hightails it out of there!
POP!
move action to teleport, Swift action to activate burst (50ft ms) and Move action to run away!!!
the swift action might be slightly different depending on the giants readied action. Also, teleporting does not provoke an AoO
Deranged_Maniac_Beth
The ettin has readied an action to attack you with his flail, which he can do before you teleport.
What you didn't take in to account in your post is that picking up the Head takes another standard action, which would give Gurrak another chance to attack you. Are you absolutely sure, with your low hit-points, that you want to take another attack from him? (you can still get away without the head, and bring the other party members back to help).
To her subordinates, she says
"You may step away from them now."
The sahuagin take several steps back.
1d20 ⇒ 1
Speaking to the group, she attempts to sound confident but utterly fails
"B-Brave warriors, then...I do not want to fight you. What is it you are looking for in here?"
