Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
Midio's spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
but not its origins.
"Oh, who left so much fog in there?" Asks Nightblade. "Must have been Harska, she has a fondness for mist."
You can also make out the sounds of people talking inside. One of them is clearly a dwarf, the other has a sort of mechanical voice, and a third has no recognizable accent. De'Arv'ki (but not Midio) hears a faint cackling sound from inside the building.
You can now here Mundarion and Gemheart's conversation.
"This one here be me Dorjes,"
The dwarf holds up a bag found on the white dragonborn. Pulling out a small crystal, he offers
"Ye can have this'on, fer helpin' get 'em back."
The area under the trap door appears to be quite large--bigger than the ground floor. From the ground floor (I am assuming neither of you have gone through the trap door (yet)), there are no visible features in the basement you can see from above aside from a stone floor, the broken door, rope ladder, and the silver dragonborn.
An eerie, cackling voice laughs somewhere from the basement, though you cannot see its source from the trap door.

![]() |

That cackle... something bodes unwell about this...
Moving towards the doorway with the fur on her neck standing up, De'arv'ki Calls out:
You inside! Be you frrrriends orrrr foe? Do you know a Midio, fine acrrrrobat and fine hunterrrr.
De'arv'ki will also prepare her crossbow and ready an action to use vanishing trick if someone attacks her

attack roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25[Ooc]-4 for non-lethal
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Thomas does not wish to kill this man as he has not been deemed that much of a threat so he will slash with the blunt end of his blade as the Dragonborn passes

Vassekh-Arokh Yessai |

Even though I should go before Thomas' action, let's let that take precedence. Yessai would have tried to dice him.

Mundarion |

Mundarion has no problem with Gemheart taking the ring and the gold.
Mundarion turns to Nightwing and says, "I'm not going to spend you down there alone. Too much could go wrong."
What Mundarion does instead is get down on his belly (with Nightwing moving around on his shoulder as necessary to keep a good perch and stay out of the way). Mundarion will then crawl over the edge of the hole the trap door covered so he can extend the full length of his arm down into the hole but not risk falling. That done, Mundarion will cast "mage hand" and see whether or not one end of the rope ladder is close enough to be reached by the spell and light enough to be lifted.
ASF Check: 1d100 ⇒ 86
Satisfied that he was able to cast the spell properly Mundarion starts trying to pick up the rope ladder.

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
Mundarion's hand is barely long enough to reach the rope (it is almost exactly 30 feet down. Unfortunately there is nothing to tie it to...
From behind you, a cackling voice calls from behind you
"Let us aid you"
The fallen dragonborn writhes in apparently intense pain, then falls limb, dead.
"Greetings travelers."
As you look around, a figure appears a short distance away--a ghost, perhaps, an insubstantial vision of a male tiefling.
"You have passed our test. What is it you seek in the Pyramid of shadows?"
Next to the dead dragonborn's head sits a small, shimmering, wooden pyramid. It is roughly one foot tall, and is nearly transparent, as if it can barely materialize in this spot.

Vassekh-Arokh Yessai |

On hearing the voice and seeing the diembodied tiefling Yessai starts, a sudden rush of adrenalin causing her to pulse with fell power again...
Swift Action: Expend 1 point from terror pool:
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Before she turns she notices the object lying next to the dragonborn, but makes no move to engage with it or the tiefling. Yessai keeps her eyes on the ground, neither looking at the pyramid nor making eye contact with the tiefling.
"So, you would be the dark arcanist. The question returns - what would you want with us?"
Terror Pool points remaining: 2

Gemheart |

does Gemheart see Midio or De'arv'ki?
"For what purpose are you going down there?" he asks of Mundarion.
He turns briefly back to the dwarf, "And this crystal? Is it a regular crystal or psionically resonant? And do you require further services? Have you recovered all of your goods?"

Mundarion |

Mundarion retrieves the rope ladder and then uses his dagger to cut just enough off the bottom of it that he can tie up the white dragonborn. After Mundarion finishes tying the dragonborn up he says:
"Now all we need is a piton or a metal rod or something like that we can pound into the floor here to secure the ladder to. Does anybody have any ideas?"

Mundarion |

Mundarion replies to Gemheart:
"I am going down there to find whatever it is that is supposed to be able to help my country. Also, I want to make sure the silver dragonborn down there stays incapacitated. She might prove to be a problem if she comes to otherwise. Besides which if she's a known criminal there might be a price on her head."
Has the mist lifted? Can we see the other people at the door?
Perception check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22

![]() |

This is just to see if i can still hear them
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
At this point, having not be answered or attacked, De'arv'ki walks into the room with Gemheart and Mundarion and rasps out:
I believe I can help you with yourrrr piton prrrroblem...

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
"It be psionic. I'd best be on me way...I dinnae want ta see wha's down thar. Thank ye fer yer aid."
Yes, Mundarion, Gemheart, De'arv'ki, and Midio can all hear each other.
After a short while the fog clears. The cackling in the basement grows louder, and deeper.
There is a floorboard sticking up around which the rope ladder can be tied. It looks strong enough to hold one person at a time, but might give way if used to much.
In a whisper, the tiefling replies
"Do not concern yourself with what we want...
just know that what you want lies in the Pyramid of Shadows"
"We have a plan to defeat a certain Lich Queen. Your aid is needed inside the Pyramid."
"A great artifact which protects the weak against demons can be found in the Pyramid of Shadows."

Gemheart |

"No problem. What does the gem do?" Gemheart asks, taking any valuables (and mundane supplies) off of the enemies that he can.
If there is a "guard" in this city, then Gemheart suggests the dwarf call them to handle these thieves.

Vassekh-Arokh Yessai |

Yess instinctively edges closer to Thomas, though she makes sure the tiefling can hear her-
"Does it whisper your heart's desire too, Thomas?"
Then, to the incorporeal Tiefling:
"What of it, spirit? What entrance do we seek - the small pyramid on the floor here? Once the Pyramid is gained, how would we leave?"

![]() |

Well, Seeing as I can climb out...
With that, De'arv'ki places her pack on the ground nearby and climbs down onto the roof of the area below, to listen for the source of the cackling and to search for valuables or enemies
Climb: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Mundarion |

Padd I'm pretty sure a 30 foot drop to the floor is all there is until we get the ladder rigged.
Mundarion turns around and sees Padd and Midio. All of sudden Nightwing reacts in a way that might make people think he was nervous, moving around on Mundarion's body so as to try to hide from Padd. Mundarion comments:
"For a supposedly abandoned building this place is busier than the main lightning rail station in Metro the night before a holiday. Who are all you people and what are you doing here?"

![]() |

At the specter's appearance Thomas immediately grabs for his holy symbol around his neck.
In a whisper to Yessai
It speaks of a great artifact to aid me on my quest. But I doubt he speaks the truth. I say as we do as it says. Even if this being is attempting to device us, we should attempt to stop him.
To the voice
What guarantee do we have of our safety Foul Being?

![]() |

30ft drop vs +21 climb, 20ft climb speed, take 10 anytime i like vs DC30 to climb on the roof... >_<, best climb rogue ever
Calling out from the hole, De'arv'ki rasps Mine and midio's mutual frrrriend lead us herrrre. I hearrrrd you and Constrrrruct frrrrom the strrreet, and decided you make... interrrresting people to be arrrround... As forrrr you, little snack, you have my worrrrd I shall not attempt to... consume you without perrrrmission... You have a knight who was not a knight to thank forrrr that...

Mundarion |

Mundarion looks at Gemheart, shrugs his shoulders and then shakes his head. Mundarion rigs the rope ladder to the board as best he can.
Let me know what type of roll you need for that. Also what are the lighting conditions down in the cellar/pit/whatever it is?
Mundarion draws his dagger, holds it between his teeth pirate fashion and then proceeds to climb down the ladder.

![]() |

Gunna presume that the light levels are dim. As to the roll i needed, most of it is racial bonuses and a racial rogue talent
De'arv'ki Reemerges from the hole, claiming Forrrr those of us with the eyes of the night, Crrrrisp and clearrrr. Forrrr the rrrrest... Darrrrk and dangerrrrous. having said this, she reclaims her pack and shrugs it on, and clambers back down the rope ladder.

Gemheart |

Gemheart concentrates for a moment, then the ectoplasmic crystal that forms his armor dissipates. Seeing the others go down, he starts to climb down the hole as well. If he slips, he will activate his magical gauntlets to arrest his fall.
climb: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20

Midiotoziggeroto |

Gah I'm getting left behind a bit, and I still haven't gotten my items done yet >.>
I'll get them done tonight
Midiotoziggeroto wastes no time introducing himself
Hi! I'm Midiotoziggeroto. I'm here looking for a friends boss, who seems to have dissapeared..
Oooh a hole! What's down there?
Midiotoziggeroto will then go over to the hole and look down, winking out of existance and reappearing a few feet off the ground before floating the rest of the way down gracefully. POP.
Its dark...
move action teleport 25ft down, swift action catfall the last 5ft. I will have a light generating item here in a minute :)

![]() |

Way ahead of ya midio >_<
With a flourish, De'arv'ki pulls a small, glowing grey crystal from her belt pouch, grasps it for a moment then releases it to orbit 2ft from her head.

Midiotoziggeroto |

Hey! I was going to get a dull grey ioun stone with a continious light spell cast on it >.<

Deranged_Maniac_Beth |
"You have none. Enter at your own risk!"
When he peers down the trap door, Nightblade cries out
"Oh, Harska, what happened here!?"
On the other end up the room, anyone who climbs down can see the source of the cackling: a shimmering figure, a ghost, perhaps, an insubstantial vision of a male tiefling.
"Greetings travelers," is calls in a strange, otherworldly voice,
"You have passed our test. What is it you seek in the Pyramid of shadows?"
Behind him you can see (no check required) a small, glowing pyramid. It is roughly 2 feet high, and looks wooden, but it glows a bright green.

![]() |

De'arv'ki backs up, fur on end and hisses at the strange being, before darting forward and grabbing... Handful of SP: 1d12 ⇒ 8 and placing 3 upon bahamut's altar and 2 on Tiamat's before bowing to both

Midiotoziggeroto |

at the moment,
Quick runners shirt
+1 armored kilt
Mask of stony demeanor (for lulz)
Cape of resistance
Sleeves of many garments
Mwk tools
Still looking :)
At the ghosts inquiry Midiotoziggeroto blurts out Adventure! without really thinking.

Mundarion |

Unfortunately no. It would have been left in his room at the inn or other similar location. No biggie though, just had some minor camping stuff.
Mundarion looks concerned. He takes a deep breath and then goes through the entrance with his weapons sheathed and Nightwing riding on his shoulder.

shrinking or it’s growing, but it fills the room around you and
you’re immersed in darkness. The voice of the tiefling comes to you one last time.
“Welcome to the Pyramid of Shadows. The only way
to win your freedom is to kill us—three times.”
His mocking laughter
taunts you, fading away as light returns and a tremendous
stench assails you, suggesting that you’ve left Sigil behind.
At the exact same moment...
"Ah, we see you need not choose to enter, as one of your soon-to-be companions made the choice for you!"
You can’t tell if you’re
shrinking or it’s growing, but it fills the room around you and
you’re immersed in darkness.
And now this is for everyone:
A stench of death and blood assails you as you appear suddenly
atop a pile of bodies. Humans, dwarves, elves, halflings, and
others, all apparently recently killed but all wearing clothing
and armor of an earlier age. The pile of bodies seems to shift, as
though something might be moving beneath it.
The entire group is here, along with Nightblade and the still-unconscious Harska.
The pile of bodies you are standing on are in a square pit, 20 feet on a side. The walls of the pit, as well as those of the room are made of a very rough stone. It is about 10 feet from where you are to the top of the pit.
"Oh..." Nightblade looks around
"If Garash Vren is here...I do hope he isn't in this pile."
Above you, at the top of the pit, the pounding footsteps of a giant approach.
A large, two-headed creature looks down at you.
It bellows something in Giant:
The cackling of the tiefling slowly fades from your ears. The creature at the top of the pit seems unaware of the tiefling's voice.

![]() |

Thomas gazes calmly and evenly across both the group and the room. With easy strides he will move in front of the others, his Mindblade held at the ready.
I am ready to stand against this cretin if none of you can make peace in the monster's language.

Mundarion |

Mundarion says: "I can try to cast a spell that will let me understand what he's saying, but I won't be able to talk to him in his language. It would be much easier if we had somebody who could speak his language. I suspect that trying to defeat him in battle would be a chore."

Vassekh-Arokh Yessai |

Who is Nightblade, Harska and Garash Vren? If Yess hasn't met the former two, what do they look like at least?
On arrival, Yessai's retrousse nose wrinkles in distaste. She sees the rest of her group and relaxes.
"He wants to know why we are in the pit. His pit. His name is Gurrak apparently."
Yess calls up to the foul hulk...
"Mighty Gurrak! We have travelled far to meet you, and inspect the filth and horror of your pit. There have been tales told that you have the mightiest corpse-pit in creation! Also, there are those who would seek to make your pit theirs - we come to root them out!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 And a lovely critical failure it is too... ;)
