Croft the Raven |
Croft flies back to the base camp at top speed. The instant he spots the people still settled down there and waiting, he swoops down and lands on Asta's shoulder.
"It may be nothing or it may be something big," he says as soon as he has his breath under control, "but the fortress guards intimated the dead walk here at night."
The raven's dark eye fixes Johod with a stern look. "That's your guys' department, right? Setting wards against the undead? You'd better hop to it and get all the Kobolds inside."
The dark eye rolls over to Mikmek. "And getting them all to safety would be your job, Mr. Crown Prince of Sootscale."
Elaina Tirel |
Elaina looks to Kressel and grins when she sees Torod looking even a little surprised.
"Well, I guess we need to get the Staglord his tribute then." The rangers voice is soft, almost a whisper.
So, let the ingratiation begin. First step, butter up the boss. :D
KenderKin |
Before you can even lead the horses to the stable...
Another man approaches
Mugshot
Kressel: "Akiros you old dog! I have some new recruits and drinks for everyone."
Kressel passes her hand towards you and then pats the bundle for emphasis on the last part.
Sense motive DC 14
Akiros: "You men get down here and get this inside, careful now or I'll have yer hides!"
Marten Gorlan |
sense motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
I am curious how this will work out... Marten looks at the newcomer, trying to notice anything of value.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Elaina Tirel |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
"Careful with the booze or careful getting down?" Elaina asks quietly.
Marten Gorlan |
At this point Marten waits for developement and follows any instruction.
KenderKin |
As you begin to settle into the fort.
Kressel @ Bandits: "I am going to show these recruits around."
Key What she shows you, in order
Z1. The Yard
A small, dusty yard separates the palisade from the inner
structures. The ground here is of hard-packed barren earth.
Dozens of barrels lie stacked against the inner wall of the
palisade, each with a wooden or metal bucket sitting nearby.
Z9. Armory
Though ruined walls still separate this area from the other
rooms, most of the ceiling has collapsed. The only remaining
bit of roof covers the inside corner. Hides strung from a wooden
frame partition this corner off, creating a dry storage area.
Z5. Central Room (CR 4)
The edges of this drafty room are crammed
with crates, barrels, and boxes. Hammocks
strung on wooden posts denote sleeping
areas, while dirty bowls and utensils rest
atop rickety and makeshift furniture.
Elsewhere, chamber pots sit tucked into
corners, while a large iron gate is wedged
into a ten-foot-wide gap in the western
wall. Chips of ancient plaster flake
from the walls, exposing the stone
construction; whatever plaster still
clings to stonework is covered with
strange and erratic scribbles and
pictographs. The floor consists
only of hard-packed earth.
[spoiler]
As she looks into Z6 Kressel seems surprised..
Kressel:"What the devil?"
Inside the cave/cage is an owlbear....it is locked in with a rigged gate made out of an old portcullis from the main entrance—
knowledge nature DC 15 [spoiler] The owlbear appears healthy
DC 20
The sun has set long ago and the owlbear growls and hoots.
Torod |
Knowledge:Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Torod lingers at the cage with the owlbear in it until Strawberry's reaction becomes too much and he follows the others. "Play nice with him. You might be roommates soon."
Elaina Tirel |
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
"That's an owlbear, I don't think anything wants to share a room with one."
KenderKin |
In the Fort.
The staglord makes his first appearance.
Staglord
"Let the party begin! Bellows the staglord!
Close at his heels in another man....
Mugshot
@Everyone
Kressel: "That's Dovan."
Back in the trenches
The crow has given a warning but the group can still decide to venture forth closer to the fort, it is just a matter of from where the approach is made, or where it is decided to wait, and for how long.
@Everyone
Mikmek "Only dead I seen was tha guy at the river who wants tha Staglord dead."
Asta Blackheart |
"Indeed," Asta says, eyes narrowing. "Jhod, do you have any spells of undead detection prepared today? Or one of your assistants, perhaps? I am eager to move in closer to support the others at need, but not if that means walking into the waiting jaws of a wraith or somesuch. Prince Mikmek, how up-to-date is the Silverscales' information regarding this area?"
Elaina Tirel |
Elaina glances at the man Kressle pointed out as Dovan and tried to suppress a shiver as she saw his smirk. She'd seen that smirk, or at least its shadow, on dozens of others, and when they wore it, it seldom meant they had others' best interests in mind.
Sense Motive (trying to get a feel for Dovan): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Seraph_ |
At the warning of the possible dead man in the area Seraph sidles closer to Asta ensuring nothing comes at the witch while the crow was away. "I can attempt to search the area you wish and see if there is evil that lurks there. Most... Walker's radiate a vile aura, its a matter of how deep they are lurking that becomes an issue." The last part she says somewhat distractedly, she wasn't really afraid of the undead. More the possibility of being covered in their maggot filled gore if they dared test their blades. She looked towards the hill and narrowed her eyes as she looked for movement. "In any case I will take watch at night if it comes to that..."
KenderKin |
Inside the fort
Dovan seems to many to be nothing but a cold blooded killer...
The men begin the process of drinking, and throwing a party. Four bandits remain on guard duty in the catwalks above.....
The drinking begins, and everyone is offered a round.....
Outside the fort
@everyone
Jhod: "I have two potions of invisibility to undead, but that is all I have.....and the ability to turn away the undead."
Perception DC 22
Seraph_ |
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Seraph's eyes narrow as she is unable to make out what she is hearing, she than nods to Jhod. It was good to know they had some options...
KenderKin |
Outside the fort
Mikmek still seems anxious
"We have to decide try and get you close to the front gate, the rear or one of the sides of the Fort?"
Inside the fort
Every drink you actually consume gives you a +3 to bluff that you are drinking more.
"Let's get this party started!"
Torod |
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 + 3 ⇒ (20) - 1 + 3 = 22
Asta Blackheart |
Stealth 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
As the door opens, Torod is greeted by the sight of Asta's eyes widening slightly, the pupils contracting while the blue irises widen. Then a brief, sharp smile quirks her lips.
"A greeting, Elf," the Witch murmurs as she slips past Torod and into the shadows, Croft riding her shoulder like a feathery shadow.
Elaina Tirel |
She'll drink one drink. It's just dragged out over a long time. :D
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 3 = 9
If she gets caught.
"Sorry, I can't hold my liquor all that well," Elaina says sheepishly.
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Well, Damn. How does this blow up in Elaina's face?
KenderKin |
One of the bandits throws his cloak and arm around Eliana, and begins leading her into the fort to a private area.
"I'll take care of you...real good."
Eliana
Bandit watch will save 1d20 ⇒ 3

Bandit watch perception 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
Who else is sneaking in? Or engaging in some other mischief?
Marten Gorlan |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Marten notices the bandits are getting drunk. He drinks his first drink and then pretends to sip another one. He leans on his staff to "retain stability".
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 + 3 ⇒ (16) - 1 + 3 = 18
Seraph_ |
Seraph enters the fort, blade sliding from its holder as she readies herself for the greatest battle of her life. The sheer thought of the many bandits that possibly lay within made her anger rise, tempered by the thought that not all of them were lost...
She nods to Torod, returning his smug look with a fierce smile. "You were right. Excellent work." Her words were short and to the point, they had work to do and this fort would fall tonight or she'd die in the attempt. She stood close to Asta, protecting her above else if she could as she looked around them suspiciously.
Perception - Making sure they go unseen for now...: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 20
She focused on being quiet and sticking close to Asta as she casted her magic. Seraph casts magic on herself to bolster her combat abilities.
Cast Divine Favor on herself
Elaina Tirel |
Elaina feels her skin crawl as the bandit goes to lead her away. Memories of constant fear come flooding back as she recognizes what the bandit is trying to do. She wants to bolt, to get away and hide, but instead tries to slip away, hoping that a refusal will stop the unwanted advance.
"Not like that, you're not," she says.
Bluff (Slipping away): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 1 = 10
Forgot Brigand gave a +1 to Bluff. Not that it helps. :\ Poor Elaina, can't catch a break.
Elaina Tirel |
Elaina lets out a sigh of relief once the thug walked off.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Wanting to get some fresh air, Elaina sneaks away and climbs up onto the catwalk, looking for any danger and a good vantage point.
Torod |
With the others inside the fort. Torod quaffs his Potion of Invisibility and begins looking for the Stag Lord.
If he thinks he can do so without being noticed, he will cast Barkskin on himself.
Marten Gorlan |
Marten finds a quiet place to watch the bandits and be ready for action.
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Asta Blackheart |
Asta casts a quick spell on herself, then whispers to those with her: "I need to do this part alone. Stay out of the fog at all costs. Do not approach me until I am out of it"
Then, provided she can find a good route to get within twenty feet of the bandits without being immediately visible, she does so - and suddenly steps into view. "Good evening," the Witch purrs, "and goodbye."
Chill, white fog full of shifting shadows billows forth out of Asta's hair, out of her skin, out of her robes, enveloping all within a twenty foot radius in the chill enbrace of nightmare...
Asta casts Mage armour on herself, then stealths over to the bandits and casts Haunting mists. Stealth 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Will save DC 16 against the mists. Let's boogie!
Marten Gorlan |
Seeing Asta's performance Marten quickly applies the oil of shillelagh to his staff.
"I guess it is party time." he whispers to himself.
Elaina Tirel |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Elaina nocks an arrow, ready to loose it one the first bandit coming from the fog.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
KenderKin |
Gathered around the table in the area of the mist are the 7 basic bandits....

Will save 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Will save 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Two bandits make there saves and draw swords in the deepness of the mist.
The others flee in opposite directions, many of them yelling
"The vengeful dead have come as ghosts upon us!"
"We are doomed!"
"I promise I will be good!"
Two bandits charge out of the mist looking as if they have seen demons!
KenderKin |
The Staglord bellows from somewhere within the fort!
"What in the nine hells!"
Auchs is on the roof looking down!
"They are at the gates!"
Three archers above move into position to where they can see you around the thick mist!
Perception DC 15
Everyone note that the thick mists is blocking a fairly large area, and entering the mists is not the best idea in the world.
Any questions please post in ooc thread
Asta Blackheart |
Asta tiptoes over to the edge of the mists, close to the owlbear's cage, and whispers to it in the language of animals: "If I release you from this cage, will you agree only to fight the fools who den here and held you against your will?"
Feral speech hex. Not sure whether it'll work on an owlbear, but who knows? Bluff to con it into compliance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
KenderKin |
Asta
The owlbear looks expectantly at you to open the gate.....
Asta
The two bandits fleeing the mist come face to face with Strawberry Deathstrike, Marten a club wielding maniac, and Seraph!
You guys get a free attack on these two!
Torod Roll a perception check please
Eliana:
Ahead of you a group of three archers are moving into position to fire upon your friends. Roll for initiative, and you can make a surprise attack on them.
