Talon Neverion |

Right then, I suppose I'll roll again for Talon's craft here.
Craft Weapons: MW Silvered Two-Bladed Sword: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 17
Still not enough. Well, it was a 50/50 chance anyways. Not like I could take 10 on a craft roll.

Talon Neverion |

So, unless there's anything else that anyone else would like to do, I think this would be a good point for a timeskip to where we're ready to start exploring the Crow. Whether or not Talon's finished his weapon before then doesn't matter - I feel like everybody's itching for some action. Anything that people want to purchase/research/prepare for the excursion?

The_Ninja_DM |

Works for me. I'll post the 'arrival' tonight.
As for purchases: Magnimar is a Large City so:
any non-magic
#minor: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 3) = 11
#medium: 3d4 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3
#major: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
base limit for magic items: 8000g
purchase limit: 50,000g
If you're looking for something specific in that range let me know, and I'll do what I can.

Talon Neverion |

Well, if Talon can't manage to finish the MW Two-Bladed Sword by the time we're ready to progress (With the addition of his goblin assistants, anyways), he'll nab himself a couple Silvered Shortswords, one of them of Masterwork quality as well (Not enough to pay for two masterwork ones, unfortunately.)
Also, this Ioun stone we're getting - what's its function, and who wants to use it? I'm going to give the Shard of Pride to K'Nyaz - the ioun stone in it boosts his Intelligence, after all, his primary casting score. And Major Image is a great daily to use in a pinch.
Also, before they set off, he'll attempt to get a blessing from one of the monuments, the Battle of Charda - if anyone else wanted to get a monument's blessing, now would be the time to try to get it.
Intimidate check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Azrael Dukshi |

Also, as you've looked through the Player's Guide, I took a look myself, and noticed the Fame and Prestige points system - are we not using that? Or have we not accumulated any yet?
Furthermore, I've noticed a lack of posting from Hralyk or Fletcher - are they still playing, but haven't really had anything to contribute, or did they quit as well?

Talon Neverion |

To answer K'Nyaz's question (And to politely suggest that if your post is completely OOC text to post it in the Discussion Thread instead):
Rats are nocturnal creatures. So going at sunrise would be going at them when they're most likely about to bed down or change watches, which gives us an advantage. Going right before sunrise gives us the cover of darkness long enough to reach the Crow unseen, with the increasing light allowing us to see outside once we've gotten there. Finally, it's a valid war stratagem - there are many cases of attacks on enemies camps right before sunrise, when the late night watch is just about burnt out and on the least amount of guard.
I hope this settles your curiosity on the matter.

Hralyk the Crooked |

Hralyk's still here, just lurking. The party was dealing with characters and situations that he didn't know anything about, so it felt best to let you all deal with it.
EDIT - Hralyk will pick up some silver bullets and a silver greataxe.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

As far as completely ooc posts only in the discussion thread, I'm not the first, not likely the last, and you have done the same. I'm not sure why it is an issue now?
I understand the notion of attacks at dawn, and its why we did stand-to in the army. It may be a valid war stratagem, but we are not an army, and neither are they. If they are changing shifts, then that means more people are awake. The closer to shift change, the less likely either half (if they even have shifts) is in a deep REM sleep.
Also, we are not dealing with rats, were are dealing with a gang of thieves, some of which are wererats. Humans are not naturally nocturnal.
We are going to explore a column's interior, seeing outside is not likely to be all that necessary. If the thing had windows, the Heidmarches/Pathfinders would already know more about it than they do, because it would have been explored thoroughly through said windows.
While the idea of chambers being found within an Irespan piling is nothing new, the number of chambers within most pilings is relatively small. In fact, the idea of a complex as extensive as the one inside of the Crow is somewhat unprecedented. Until Natalya found a cleverly hidden secret door, popular opinion was that, like a few other pilings, the Crow lacked any existing entrance
All this aside, I think the thing I take the biggest issue with is the matter of fact way you decided all by yourself that we would be leaving before sunrise. We are not an army, we are not soldiers, we are not a fire team. We are individuals that are working together to accomplish an ends. A single leader is really unnecessary in D&D, a group of equals that make decisions together is more productive. If we were playing a war campaign, and had ranks and officers, that would be a different story, but we aren't.

Talon Neverion |

If you have a problem with it then that's fine. OOC I agree with all you've said, aside for the leader bit. The leader is the one who sets tbe course of the group and points them in the direction they are
supposed to go. If you have objections then voice them and he will listen because he trusts K'Nyaz. They can wait to go until dark if he thinks that its wise.
That said if he also disagrees with the leader role Talon has assumed and wants to object to it, so long as someone seconds him Talon will step down and go for the communal party. I think he's said something to that effect before as well.

Talon Neverion |

Well as he has made some valid points I say that we should go with K'Nyaz's suggestion and go at night instead. All credit to the wizard of course. OOC He's right that I was out of place in assuming everyone would be all right with Talon's choice. I'll include everyone for those decisions in the future, and I apologize for any discomfort or irritation other members may feel about my actions.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

I did want to explain IC, but I ended up having to rush out a post (wife agro) so I just turned it into a quick question without having to add accent.
I think there are valid points on both sides. I would say maybe 2 hours before sunrise would cover both aspects.

The_Ninja_DM |

OK, Fletcher has dropped out. If you all want we can try to recruit another rogue type, however, another option would be to keep Natalya (rogue-1/sorc-2) as a permanent, active NPC.
Meanwhile, we'll keep going. Though, if you want her as an NPC, we can retro it that she's with you now.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

I'd prefer whichever makes it easier for you as a GM. Sometimes, playing an NPC and the environment, and all the enemies can get cumbersome.
I would probably almost prefer another player, since it also allows for fresh perspectives and more opportunities for IC dialogue.

Talon Neverion |

I wouldn't mind it if we looked for another rogue-type to join the party, but it would be slightly hard to fit them in smack dab in the middle of the dungeon, unless we retconned that they joined up before we left the docks. Since that's what you'd do with Natalya, I guess there's no reason not to look for a replacement player.

Hralyk the Crooked |

From an RP perspective, I'd feel better about recruiting another - both for better IC dialog and because Hralyk, at least, would not be quite so ready to accept Natalya into the group after what they just went through.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

In regards to the latest recruit, not that it's necessarily my decision, but I'm personally not a big fan of anthropomorphic PC's or any of the Asian classes. I think it has to do with my absolute near hatred for anime.

Talon Neverion |

Personally, I'm fine with it. Just think less of anime and more of classic folklore from China and Japan when it comes to Tien characters. In fact, we might even just consider a kitsune character as a type of lycanthrope like a werewolf, most of us having little in the way of knowledge of eastern lands.
Though, actually, Talon is half-Tien himself, and half-Taldan. Granted he's no shapeshifter.

Delkaneth Sargan |

Thanks for the opportunity! After reading through the entire gameplay thread yesterday I'm even more excited to playing this campaign with this group.
@ Ninja DM - 4hrs to Hershey? Im in NY about 50mi north of NYC, 3hrs from Hershey.................

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

Okay, just a few points of contention
Sneak attack damage doesn't double on a crit
She can't SA unless she was hidden (requiring a stealth check with the penalty for moving more than half speed).
Both K'nyaz and his familiar (who flew ahead) would get perception checks.
Also, she rolled an 18, not a 19 (her total) so unless she has a keen short sword or improved crit she didn't crit.
All this considered, it would be 7 damage, not 14.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

Actually the die roller here, to prevent cheating I think, keeps the die rolls in order. It even keeps a roll per post. So if you try to post, cancel, and then post later, the roll will remain the same.
I know how some people get around it (they try it in some of my games), and if you want I could PM you the signs to look out for?

Kelgeah |

Where have all the good rolls gone, and where are all the crits?
Where's the twenties and nineteens to cut my foes to bits?
Isn't there a dice roll to win this grueling fight?
Isn't there a lucky toss to add some fun to the night?
I NEED A HIGH ROLL!
...Fletcher would be proud.

Hralyk the Crooked |

I'm sorry, guys, but I'm gonna bow out of this PbP. I've tried to get into it, but I've found myself actively avoiding reading the updates in the campaign, and that's not fair to any of you. With the sporadic updates and the lack of map exploration and tactical combat, I'm just not enjoying it. Call me shallow, but there ya go.
So we're clear, this is not intended to be a slight against you, TNDM. I know you're just starting out, and you don't have the ability to do maps and stuff right now, and that's fine - everyone has to start somewhere, and I respect you for giving it a shot. That's more than I've been willing to do.
Anyway, best of luck to you all.

Talon Neverion |

Welcome. I suppose that losing Hralyk is also a shame, but at least we gained a new party member before he left. Though don't think for a second Talon is going to use your character's full name. You get a nickname like everybody else.

Delkaneth Sargan |

OK, so im kind of new to pbp so I've gotta ask.
Usually I write up a section of post then hit PREVIEW to check the dice roll before typing some more based on that roll......is that how most people do it? I've got to admit I've gotten some crazy rolls here (better than any of my other campaigns) so I want to make sure the way I'm doing it isn't giving me a wacky advantage or something..............
not that im unhappy about the rolls, just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

K'nyaz Dyetskovo |

Nope, I preview like a loon. It allows me to narrate my rolls better. I can describe why I missed, or how well I managed to succeed, or certain motivations affected my actions.
You will get the same rolls, so it doesn't affect it.
If you roll a d20, then cancel the post because you don't like it, then come back and make a new post it will be the same roll. It helps prevent cheating the die roller.
