Good point about maps - how do pbp deal with maps? Links to an external image showing only what the players know already?
As for me enjoying DMing it, I'll always find a way to entertain myself. Even if I have to start torturing players ;) Go read the first post I ever made to Paizo :D
I'll have to modify each to fit my sense of aesthetics, but that's usual anyway. I'm trying to think of how to make s&s a natural progression. I much prefer the way it works in writing, "show don't tell" rather than the pcs running to the dm's mouth piece at the end of each adventure.

Lol - well this complicates things a bit. Back when I applied for the S&S campaign, I also applied for a shattered star one. Which I was just picked for as well -.-
The one DM has never done a pbp (S&S) and the other has a rep for disappearing in the middle of a campaign and never finishing it. (star)
So, it looks like it doesn't matter which one I do, don't let that influence your choices :) it looks like neither will last long. So choose which one you want rather than which one won't spoil my other pbp.
How about savage tide? Lol

The important thing is to choose an adventure that everyone will enjoy playing in, original or published.
As for maps, there are a variety of tools - you could use a Google spreadsheet, that's been done. There's also roll20.net, which is also good for real time sessions - being able to resolve combat quicker by getting the group together perhaps an hour or two a week would help keep things moving along and not be stale.
If we go with S&S, I'll be sure to bring Alwen out for that. If we go Shattered Star, I have my human fighter for that. I've got combat in the bag, so to speak. ^_^

Sure!
Edit:
but the players guide isn't free. I am really up for any path, or one shot module. Truly.

I think I'd prefer Shattered Star.
My piratical tendencies are more for a 'pirates who don't do anything' type of game. If you've ever seen One Piece, that's more my style of pirate.
So you want a ridiculously utilitarian super power in exchange for sinking like an anvil in water? :P Granted, that's not a terrible idea, but I'm going to say that personally, I'm more interested in Shattered Star right now than Skulls & Shackles.

I love the idea of being a pirate, plundering the seas and shores and letting the wind takes us where we might go next. Nothing but tanned skin and a weapon at our sides and the winds at our backs.
buuuut I'll play anything and they all sound fun =)
Azrael Dukshi |
Hooray! ^_^ I'll put the finishing touches on my character, then. Also, sorry to say I couldn't find someone that was interested in joining. :(
Edit: Should we happen to take Craft skills, can we reduce the standard prices of equipment we can make by half to indicate we've labored to create them ourselves? Only for starting equipment, I mean.

Traits are in the advanced players guide and the campaign specific traits are in the shattered star players guide. They're kind of limited, if you want to modify one of them, feel free to tell me what you want. They are there to give you a hook and a history as to why you're in magnimar and with the pathfinders as well as give you a 'half feat' of a bonus.

@CaptMadJaq: You don't have a campaign trait. You have a Society trait (Maestro of the Society) But that doesn't count, I believe. Pai also seems to have one additional 1st level spell known than she should at first level, not sure if there's a class or racial feature giving you that, though.

I think she gets a bonus from her charisma score. And that society trait doesn't count? Huh. I will have to look.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Pai, I looked through your character sheet and I don't think you spent all of your skill points, you have 9 to spend, but only listed 8 with a bonus. Also, I didn't see any armor or weapons, which may be intentional, but I'm just checking.
Talon, I looked yours over, it's looks great.
Onto Keeya and Taize.

Keeya, privateers, smugglers and profession(sailor), I think I can see the eraser marks where Port Peril was erased and Magnimar put in its place.
I ran it through HeroLab - love the program, hate the lousy looking UI. And it shows you missing 2 languages and I can't figure out how you have +11 stealth :) It adds up differently in HL. I'm probably missing something.

I have the alternative racial trait for sylphs that give me +4 to stealth.
Let me go in with my double-google eraser for some of that!

Bards get 6 skill points plus their intelligence modifier. That would mean I only get 8. I can't find out where I would get the 9'th skill points, are you counting favored class? I'll gladly take it, of course. I just hate missing stuff.
Tiessa the DM |
Keeya, that makes sense, thank you :)
Pai, I assumed you would take the extra skill point and that Bard was your favored class, rather than perhaps barbarian and taking all the extra hit points you can get.
Tiessa the DM |
Well, you all should be glad you didn't get into the S&S campaign. The DM hasn't visited it in days, two of the PCs never showed up, and the DM said, a few days ago, that he'd pick replacements, but if he's done anything, it's not apparent.
Thankfully, the SS campaign seems to be active and the DM, like me, is preparing to start the campaign.

I've now read through the entire 1st part of the AP and I'll post the start of it to the game play thread tomorrow night. I'm thinking of starting a blog on wordpress and posting the maps and pictures to there, with links from the posts. (Will and his twins are all plague ridden at the moment, he may lag behind a bit starting until he recovers.)
In looking at the other pbp games on here, to speed things up I'll roll init, surprise, etc for you all, unless you all don't want that. It looks like it makes everything flow faster. I'll put the rolls in the thread of course so you can see them. With the init rolls, I'll group the PCs and monsters into when they'll go and we can follow that.
The only things I won't put in the thread are things like perception rolls to notice secret doors as you pass by them by, that'd give away the secret if no one actually notices them :)
When you roll to hit, also roll the damage for things, even if the hit roll is very small, you never know and that'll speed things up too.
I'll put skill checks in and amongst the text with the skill and DC, and what is learned inside a spoiler. Put your rolls in the reply post and you can look at the result. Obviously this is the honor system. I really don't care if you look at them even if you fail the rolls as long as you don't act on any of the knowledge in them.

Got it, very excited to start this. Let's have a grand adventure, all of us!
Ill do a once over on Keeya's bio, shift a few things around but other then that I am excited to start too

I'll take it. ;) I'll just need to know where she hails from and what language she speaks. Is there a place that works for you?
Tiessa the DM |
Pai, HeroLab seems to show that your options for languages are: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Goblin, or Orc. As far as where you're from - anyplace is fine.

And can I just tell you all how nice it is to have all of the PDFs for everything. I can copy and paste things - it's awesome. I tried to do a website like this for my Shackled City AP a few years ago and it was a pain in the neck typing everything and scanning everything.
