IIRC, since the components of a normal rat swarm are Tiny, you can do damage to them with normal attacks. Only half damage with Piercing or Slashing attacks, true, but it's better than nothing. I don't know if they're incorporeal, though.

Swarm:

Traits: A swarm has no clear front or back and no discernible anatomy, so it is not subject to critical hits or flanking. A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage. Reducing a swarm to 0 hit points or less causes it to break up, though damage taken until that point does not degrade its ability to attack or resist attack. Swarms are never staggered or reduced to a dying state by damage. Also, they cannot be tripped, grappled, or bull rushed, and they cannot grapple an opponent.

A swarm is immune to any spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures (including single-target spells such as disintegrate), with the exception of mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms) if the swarm has an Intelligence score and a hive mind. A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from spells or effects that affect an area, such as splash weapons and many evocation spells.

Swarms made up of Diminutive or Fine creatures are susceptible to high winds, such as those created by a gust of wind spell. For purposes of determining the effects of wind on a swarm, treat the swarm as a creature of the same size as its constituent creatures. A swarm rendered unconscious by means of nonlethal damage becomes disorganized and dispersed, and does not reform until its hit points exceed its nonlethal damage.

Yep. Vak is right. This swarm can be hit, but takes half damage from slash & pierce.

Swarm: -12-3-7-2-3-2-11-11

And the desperate cat finishes it off!

DM Ninja/infinite

It's quite obvious that none of these were the voice Kayosin heard. Do you intend to explore further?

Evil GM snicker.

For future reference, I think my bite is B,P,S. Did the cat finish it off before taking strength damage or after?
The cat leads on anxiously.

Kayosin looks at everyone who looks to have taken an injury as he gingerly touches his own bite-wound, his blade held idly in his tail.

"How is everyone? I can proceed, but we should do any necessary healing." He looks back at the moldy shack, "Megus may or may not be here, but I told Hemlock I'd check in on her. So I'm going in once everyone's re--."

He's cut off as the cat walks on in, and Kayosin looks on, annoyance coloring his features, "Or we could go in now..." :D

Kayosin follows the cat at about a 30 foot distance, slinking through any shadows he can find as he looks for the source of the voice. As he walks, he sends out arcane tendrils, feeling for any signs of magical auras.

Tanuki flits throughout the two main rooms checking out what appear to be rat holes. He indicates the tracks leading in and out of them. Rat tracks and those tiny humanoid prints. You see no prints that could be from a medium sized humanoid, though.

Of the two doors in the front room, one leads to a closed and the other to a rotted, moldy bedroom, obviously long unused.

The back room is a kitchen/dining area, equally unused. Three doors lead off of it, two on your right and one on the left.

M

The small figure waves some people over into the house. "There have been small humanoids around here, but I cannot identify which type from the tracks. We should explore the house thoroughly so we can rule it out as a hiding place. It doesn't look like Magus has been here for a while."

Putting it out of his mind, the gnome moves into the hovel following along towards the kitchen. "When we find our little Megus impersonator - he's cooked."

HP-wise I'm OK - 20/28. The STR damage sucks but there isn't anything to be done about that or, I suspect, the Filth Fever he's contracted. Unless we happen to have a Cure Disease kicking around?

The furthest door on the right opens to a latrine...that actually smells better than the rest of this place.

The remaining door opens into what was once an alchemical lab, now fallen into decay. Ancient chemical spills create weird stains and colorful crystalline growths amid the partially collapsed workbenches. You also see a pile of decayed clothing, with a skeletal hand poking out of it laying on the floor next to the workbenches, the glass phial in it's hand still containing some dried substance.

Standing not far from the sad remains is a ratlike creature with an unnerving human face and a toothy mouth, clutching a scroll in the tiny human hands that serve it in place of its front paws. As you enter it finishes casting and drops the scroll, shrieking "My home now! Mine! Get out before I destroy you!"
