Kayosin, it's hard to tell. The skeleton is deformed, due to some sort of hideous transformation. The skull seems half melted and weirdly elongated in the face, one arm looks more like a bird's talon, and the ribs have grown long spurs of bone that protrude both into and out of the rib cage. it doesn't take much Heal skill to realize that's probably the cause of death.
The creature calls to you from within the walls "See? Took that stuff, didn't test it on something else. I sure wasn't going to drink it. Anyhow, she's dead. As her former familiar, and a sentient being, I inherit this place. Leave!"
Kayosin |
Sense Motive on the rat-thing 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Kayosin shrugs, "I don't know if this is her or not, and I can't tell that he's lying." He looks around the room, then the strange body, "If he's telling the truth, though, he's got as much claim to all this as anyone else... unless she had family back in town." (Did Megus have family back in SAndpoint?)
"That being the case, I'm inclined to leave him be. I'm certainly not interested in robbing him or looting this place."
Fibek Entine |
The elf assesses the claims of the rat.

"Perhaps you are right, Kayosin. This creature does not seem to be in league with the faceless ones or the goblins. As long as it was not involved with any of the other disappearances, let us leave it be."
Braydon Chem |
Before the trip to the wreck, Braydon returns to his normal shape..
"I..hope no one was too..put out? I dislike staying that way too long, it..makes me hungry."
At the wreck..
"It looks like..some goblins were camping here. Outcasts, perhaps? How old do you think the ship is? Where did it come from? I doubt the goblins were the first to loot it. I wonder what it was carrying?"
It seems Braydon is intrigued with this new experience, and his curiosity is bubbling up..
The_Ninja_DM |
Looking at my map, we've gotten a bit twisted around. The order from Walthus' place was wreck-Megus-wreck. So, I'll say you went directly to Megus place, then to the closest wreck to her, which was farthest from the goblin's town. You can go back to the other wreck, then to the goblins, or explore here further. Where to next?
The_Ninja_DM |
You approach the vessel, you realize that what appeared at first to be a strange tangle of branches is, in fact, the moss-covered ribs of a wrecked ship. It lies on it's side, split down the middle and mostly sunken in the muck and water.
Your approach sends birds fluttering cacophonously into the sky.
A quick search of the wreck indicates that this wreck is around the same age as the last...and the battered nameplate you find reads 'Kaijitsu Blossom'.
As you study it and the implications, there is movement in the muck and water as several -creatures- rise to assault you.

I realize that events may overtake this. If they don't, though, I don't want people waiting on my action. Not that this action is particularly efficacious, though.

Sumisu will attempt to hit one of the creatures with a bomb before it comes close. He rifles around in his cloak and lobs a glass vial with volatile contents inside.

Kayosin cleans his blade as best as he can with some large leaves, finishing with a quick wipe on his coat. "Kaijitsu Blossom, huh?"
His black eyes scan the tall ribs of the rotting ship, "Ameiko may want to know about this... then again, she may care less." He stalks forward cautiously, "Well, lets see if this old flower has any more mysteries."
He moves into the ship itself, taking point once again in the search.

The ship has obviously been here a long time. Most of it has rotted, as has most of whatever it might have been carrying.
However, there are a few boxes that, though covered with the detritus of years, show some glints of...something.
An hour of poking around will recover two cases of goods; one containing verdigris-encrusted jewelry, one containing some well-padded glasswear.
Kayosin |
Are there any local salvage laws? Or do the people of Sandpoint generally believe that recovered goods like these should be returned to their rightful owner (or next of kin) if possible?
Knowledge: Local 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
I realize next-of-kin is most likely Ameiko, and Kayosin would probably want to respect given that he knows and respects her, but it'd be good to know what we're dealing with legally.
Ikshvaku "Vak" Charayana |
"I am more worried about their fragility. Many times I have heard my parents scream about breakage after we drove off attackers. But if you are not worried about it, perhaps it will not be a concern, yes?"
The_Ninja_DM |
Kayosin: These must be the remains of the Kaijitsu fleet, lost in the great storm of 4687, the year you were adopted by the Old Man. Ameiko's grandfather Rokuru had been in Brinewall setting up a new business there. The fleet from Brinewall sailed into one of the worst storms ever, one that stretched the entire Varisian coast from Kalsguard to Magnimar. The fleet was destroyed, and for reasons never discovered, Brinewall itself was emptied of life and is now regarded as cursed. Believing her entire family dead, Rokuro's wife had committed suicide. However, Lonjiku (Ameiko's now deceased father) had been 'rescued', and ransomed, by Sczarni from Riddleport. If it belongs to anyone, the stuff belongs to Ameiko,, or, if not reimbursed for the loss, to whoever ordered it.
Currently, Magnimar law allows a salvage percentage to be paid, based on the difficulty of retrieving the goods. If returned to Ameiko, you're entitled to at least 10%, possibly more. And, given her relationship with her father, more is far more likely.
Kayosin |
Kayosin stands back up from inspecting the boxes, "I certainly don't want to have to hike back this way after we visit the goblins, but I'm not carrying the boxes as I scout ahead. If someone can carry them, that's great. Ameiko should get to see these."
He looks over at Fibek. That sounded like volunteering to me. :D
For moving on over to gobbo-town.
