Hey folks, as a heads-up I wanted to let you all know that pending a clean preemployment check (which I don't anticipate being an issue since I don't do drugs and I'm good at hiding bodies) I should be finally rejoining the workforce within the next couple of weeks. As of now I'm not sure what this will mean for my posting rate but I'll be sure to keep you updated as I learn more! :D

Sometimes I just want to take this virtual d20 and throw it out the window.

Wait, where did the 7 come from? Xylas' rock didn't meet Kale's AC since we didn't have time to remove her armor. She isn't grappled any more so her AC is 23. He only got a 17. Unless there is something I'm missing...

Inactive

Not entirely sure either, but I suppose we'll find out when the DM returns! Also posting this as a check-in of sorts since I haven't needed to post for a day or two, heh.

THIS:

Xylas's charged stone flies at Kale's breast plate. For a moment, a sigh of disappointment is exhaled. But instead of of bouncing off the metal, the stone punches through the armor like it was a sheet of parchment. Kale is barely standing after the attack. I have Kale at 5 NL dmg and 7 dmg

which would require some explanation, but I think we left the realm of rules and entered GM story time quite a while ago. This isn't exactly what I was expecting.

Dark Archive

Nope, still in the realm of rules. Its just that some magic items "are the result of rushed work, inexperienced crafters, or a lack of proper components. While many of these items still have functions, they either do not work as intended or come with serious drawbacks."

Welcome back!

I'll wait for others to act so I can flank.

Yes! Welcome back! ^_^ How was your trip?

Dark Archive

Thank you, all.

Haruf and everybody else, you are considered in flank if you decide to be in melee range.

My trip was great Kale. I got engaged and saw the Death Valley bloom. 8v)

Awww! ^_^ Congratulations!

Sooo I'm lost again. The dragon is blocking the sunlight?
The demon can leave Kale even though she still has the necklace on???

If I heal her to consciousness does she get repossessed?

The dragon is not blocking the sunlight. It just did a fly-by for dramatic effect.

From the knowledge gathered, the demon wants to possess whomever has the necklace on since the person is unable to resist possession. Kale going unconscious appears to have forced the demon out.

As for your last question, your character doesn't know.

Welcome back Neb and congrats! :D

(Still here, just been dealing with a really whacked-out sleeping schedule so all apologies for no post yesterday.)

I would like to state that I am still here! I am reading everything, I just don't think have Kale go "ZzZzZz" would be a good idea! XD

Dark Archive

Thanx for being a good sport about your situation Kale. I would apologize, but it was your party members that KO'ed you. I had nothing to do with it =vD.

Inactive

Yes, thanks for hanging in there Kale! Hopefully we can get you back into the action soon!

Also as another heads-up, I start my new job on Monday and I'm also working to readjust my sleep schedule (normally an 8a-4p shift is no big deal but when you've slipped into night owl mode...) so my own posts might be a little shorter/sparser than normal this week until I get adjusted to my new schedule. Maintaining 1/day should still be no problem though :)

Dark Archive

I appreciate the heads up Calli. Good Luck with the new job. It seems a lot of people (including myself) are starting new jobs this spring. I hope its for the better.

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 4 (Primalist, Steelblood)

I have an interview Friday, so hopefully I'll also be starting a new job in a few weeks.

M Half-elf Cleric (Devout Pilgrim) of Erastil 2, AC:16, 0/4 channels used

Good luck! I'll be moving and starting a new job this coming week as well.

Thanks guys and good luck Guillaume and Xylas! Here's hoping everything goes well for all of us :)

Dark Archive

Xylas, you moving out of the city or staying in Sac-town?

M Half-elf Cleric (Devout Pilgrim) of Erastil 2, AC:16, 0/4 channels used

Moving to Nevada City. I got a planing job for the county. I don't remember, are you in CA, Nebten?

Dark Archive

Yah, Central Valley. I went to UC Davis. I still game with a group up there every couple of months. I'll actually be up there in a few weeks for the grand finale of a Soloman Kane campaign. It's ran by Robert Carreras, you know him? He used to be a mover and shaker during Living Greyhawk's heyday. I think he's in a Pathfinder campaign with George Rose or used to be.

Nebten-I was only in SAC about 2 months and didn't really do any gaming other than 1 PFS night so I don't really know any gaming folks. I mainly spent the time volunteering with the Native Plant Society, taking on-line courses and job hunting. But hey, it paid off!

Iulia- where abouts? I was kinda familiar with Auburn before I moved to CA from Tucson, but ended up getting a job offer in the Bay. I'm happy to be heading back to the Sierra foothills!

Weimar/Colfax/Meadow Vista.

My parents live there still, although they will be displaced by the Parker Reservoir when it starts getting built.

Some nice hiking in the area; mountain biking and skiing close too. They've rattlers, cougars, ticks, poison oak and black bear, be warned (although the bear are the least problematic on that list).

M Half-elf Cleric (Devout Pilgrim) of Erastil 2, AC:16, 0/4 channels used

Thanks for the warning ; ) the only one I really have any concern about is ticks honestly b/c lyme disease.

GM- shouldn't Haruf's last bite attack have hit?

Dark Archive

It hit but did no damage. Bite is non-magical against an incorporeal creature.

Sovereign Court

Treasure Witch 2 | HP -3/14 | AC 11 touch 11 flat 10 | Fort +1 Refl +1 Will +4 +2 vs. enchant | Perception +5, Sense Motive +9

Rattlers are no joke, although you may be blasé on the matter coming from Arizona. Stumbled into a few growing up (taller grass than in Arizona?)

Cougars are definitely shark attack level of worry, but it happens. Not as dangerous as moose or elk elsewhere I imagine.

If you don't worry about poison oak, well, I wish you luck. It's... unpleasant.

Nebten wrote:

It would have to be magical to do half damage vs incorporeal?

Dark Archive

Si, senor.

Quote:
Incorporeal (Ex) An incorporeal creature has no physical body. It can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, magic weapons or creatures that strike as magic weapons, and spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities. It is immune to all nonmagical attack forms. Even when hit by spells or magic weapons, it takes only half damage from a corporeal source (except for channel energy).

Weird thing is that a majority of what outlines Incorporeal creatures are under the Universal Monsters EXCEPT being immune to criticals/precision damage. That's in a whole other section under creature Subtypes. Why they couldn't add on additional line to the Rules part is beyond me.

Liberty's Edge

Male Knife Master lvl 3 [27/27 - 0NL] | AC 15 T13 FF 12 | CMD 17 | F+3 R+6 W+1 | Init +3 Per +5]

Uhmmm. Some of the damage I did was precision damage XD

Dark Archive

But it was precision damage with a ghost touch weapon =vD

Quote:
An incorporeal creature has no physical body. An incorporeal creature is immune to critical hits and precision-based damage (such as sneak attack damage) unless the attacks are made using a weapon with the ghost touch special weapon quality. In addition, creatures with the incorporeal subtype gain the incorporeal special quality.

fortunately, I haven't had a problem with poison oak or ivy since I was a kid, not that I push my luck.

I saw FAR more snakes in TX than AZ- in one summer at a camp we spotted: 45 copperheads, 8 water moccasin, and 3 coral snakes. I did have a friend get bitten once, using an outhouse actually... it was under the raised floor and felt cornered, I'm sure. If you're paying attention though and give them space you're fine.

Cougars are a little freaky, but yeah, VERY RARE. Camping in AK with Brown Bears was the only time I've been paranoid about predators really.

Dark Archive

Thanks for everybody for letting me run that encounter. It was defiantly interesting to see how it played out in-game. This also gives a bit of taste of how the games will be run. Future encounters will benefit with maps.

I'll start up Dragon's Demand here within the next day. My time will be limited over the next couple of weeks but I'll try still post daily.

So go ahead and use the 150gp to buy your starting equipment and redistribute the magic items as you see fit.

Any questions, comments, critiques, ugly remarks, please post them or PM me. If you want to get off this campaign train also this would be a good time too. Otherwise, we'll get moving along shortly.

Ah, the mystery of the plate mail punching stone has been explained.

I'm going to step aside from this game. Nothing personal, just different gaming styles. I really enjoy a lower powered game and LIKE starting as a plebe who slowly builds to moderate power gradually. I was kind of favoring this module in particular because it ends ~L6 which is about as high as I'm really interested in playing to any more.

Starting out as time traveling, artifact wielding, demon slaying, dragon saving heroes doesn't feel like it gives me anywhere to go. Plus, I would have liked the possibility of interaction with some of my background connection rather than have them all long dead.

To be fair, Nebten did a far better job running this than similar episodes I've experienced in the past which included throwing liches and rakshasas against low level characters just to F- with us. This wasn't that, but not really my thing either.

So I'll just say that while I enjoyed the character interactions and the GM's creativity, I'm going to respectfully retire Xylas from this campaign. Thanks all!

Inactive

It was certainly a different experience! I feel like I must've missed something though, because I was a bit puzzled that a module would start out the way it did. But I've played with other GMs on the forums that have inserted custom content or whole modules into games (Feast of Ravenmoor into the Shattered Star AP for example) so it's all good with me.

So yes, I'm still in for the module proper! Sorry to see you go Xylas, but I know I'll still be seeing you in another life in Ustalav ;)

Dark Archive

Thanks for the critique Xylas, I appreciate it. I don't believe I've ever DM'ed the start of a game like this before but it does harken me back to one of my earliest D&D games. We all can't start out at the Festival of Sandpoint. ;)

In response to Calli, this encounter was not how Dragon's Demand starts. Dragon's Demand starts in a more traditional way. But the connections you made in this encounter, I felt gave the characters more desire "answer the call to adventure."

I will say to the rest that are staying, the campaign will be ran pretty much by the book pending any customization to accommodate the characters. The campaign is not that high-powered but has some very classic elements. It will be interesting to see how the feel goes from high stress encounter to low-level dungeon crawling.

We'll see how it goes. Gotta burn caramel few times before getting it right. =v)

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 4 (Primalist, Steelblood)

One possible issue: I'm applying for a job with the Arkansas State Police, and have only recently learned that apparently we have no internet access during the academy, which will run for 4-6 months starting in early-to-mid May. Now, I'm not sure I have the job yet, final interview in a few hours, in fact, and we are free on the weekends, so I could post Friday-Sunday, but I'm not sure how well it will work if Guillaume is incommunicado 4 days a week until October-ish.

Again, I'm not hired yet, so it might be nothing (but I hope not!), but I figured I should let y'all know now (I only learned we didn't get phones during the week about ten days ago). Thoughts?

Liberty's Edge

Male Knife Master lvl 3 [27/27 - 0NL] | AC 15 T13 FF 12 | CMD 17 | F+3 R+6 W+1 | Init +3 Per +5]

I liked the encounter. I really have no problem with higher power adventures. Pathfinder is a system which heavily facilitates higher power. And I usually really enjoy feeling the internal progression of my character and his/her relationship with other characters so.... Sad to see you go Xylas.

I enjoyed myself, and I shall be staying. I am sad to see Xylas go, but I understand. As for Guillaume's problem, I don't mind the Friday-Sunday issue he has but that is more of a GM call. Also I now have mad respect for you Guillaume.

Dark Archive

We'll see how today goes then move along from there.

I'll go ahead start the next chapter so that everybody can get settled in.

Also those with familiars, animal companions, etc, those return to you at no additional fee (if there was one).

Inactive

I'm also happy to try and work with Guillaume if you do get the job, which I hope you do! Also, I had to consult the internet on how to pronounce your name...and of course Calli will put her own twist on it so that's why she's calling him 'Gee-um' :3

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 4 (Primalist, Steelblood)

I added a link for treasure tracking. It's pretty bare pones, I'll improve upon it as it goes.

Selling any one of those weapons would be a lot of cash, if its worth considering. Assuming, that is, we can sell them in the tiny town of Belhaim. Or that we want to.

Kale will take the +2 dragon bane halbred since it is a polearm. Also if there is away to remove the curse on the armor, Kale would like to do so, but keep the armor.

Dark Archive

Thanks Iulia. As I stated before, all items found in the prologue are unsalable. Even though there are not noted effected, all merchants feel they are cursed.

I'll be adding more information to the Campaign Tab as we move along and prompt ya'll when its updated.

For now:
BELHAIM
Small town

MARKETPLACE
Base Value 1,000 g p; Purchase Limit 5,000 g p; Spellcasting 5th

Sovereign Court

Treasure Witch 2 | HP -3/14 | AC 11 touch 11 flat 10 | Fort +1 Refl +1 Will +4 +2 vs. enchant | Perception +5, Sense Motive +9

Ah, I missed the "all" unsalable part. Simplifies life.
