"Um, maybe you should let me try?"
Beautiful, smart, *and* a spunky socialite!
"M'Lady Gwen, if you would so indulge me in a curiosity, what brought you into the service of the Society? Surely there were multiple organizations pining for your talents?"
Calvin "Cleaver of Skulls" Cark |
When the group makes it to shop across from Cayden's Hall it is closed. "Well, I guess we have time for a drink." Calvin walks across the street to Cayden's Hall to worship/drink while waiting for the witness to open up shop.
I am giving the GM until Saturday Morning then I am pulling Calvin out to play him in a different game.
GM Baerlie |
You leave Shaine alone and you are able to track down Rialla Barleyhusk in a store building. She runs a store for magic items and curiosities.
This brick building is fronted by two large, many-paned glass windows and a large sign that reads, "Mercantile, Curiosities, Unique Items, and Magic — Bought and Sold Within." Inside the store, the shelves are lined with all manner of goods, crafts, and artwork both domestic and foreign. A halfling clerk sits on a large stool behind a human-sized countertop.
"Oh, hello! Welcom to my store. How can I help you? Are you looking for something special? Do you have something to sell?" the halfling behind the countertop asks politely.
Korizon |
Korizon waits for someone to answer, and when no one does, his grimaces, scrunches his face as to remember something important and says, "Maybe buy something, mostly need to know, about some folk attacked - pathfinders outside your place. You see something like that?" he places 3 gold pieces on the counter as he finishes up his speech.
Kevan Pryce |
Kevan casts a blessing on him before he enters the shop. Once inside, he smiles at the halfing. Miss Barleyhusk! I'm Kevan Pryce. Very pleased to meet you. Several of my fellow priests have told me what a wonderful shop you have." He holds up his flask, showing the sign of the Accidental God.
"But we're here on more dire matters. As Korizon says, we heard that there was some sort of attack nearby. Did you see what happened? Can you tell us about it?"
Diplomacy (Guidance): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
Calvin "Cleaver of Skulls" Cark |
Calvin follows Kevan into the shop staying by the door as the cleric speaks with the owner.

"Oh you know, education, the chance to see the world--Hey! Is that a magic curio shop?!" Gwen quickly looses herself amid the bath soap and incense isle.

Any information you could provide would be helpful.

"stuff you know might help us, please?" Korizon taps the 3 whole gold coins on the counter and adds two more.

GM Baerlie |
Barleyhusk jumps off her stool to Show you where the victim collapsed. Barleyhusk’s excitement is palpable, and she rambles everything in one long, breathless speech. "That poor man you asked about who was attacked, he looked a right mess, he had an arrow in his side, and he could barely walk. I sat him down and started to bandage him up. Then all of a sudden the Graycloak was there and asked if I had a potion to fix him up. I said I could patch him right up because I took a class from Berntuck’s Fine School of First Aid. That Graycloak gave me the nastiest look and said the Graycloaks would pay full price for the potion. Well, I knew the master had some peppermintflavored healing potions that weren’t selling very well, so I ran back to get the potions and before I could even get to them, I hear the injured fellow gasp really loud. ‘Hurry!’ the bossy Graycloak said, so I ran back as fast as I could, but when I got there, he was already dead."
The halfling quietly sobers up as she finishes her story, and walks back behind the counter and climbs onto her stool. "I was too slow."
She is withholding a small bit of information.

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 20 ...really? Lol, OK.
Whoa, whoa. Calm down...didn't mean to make you upset. Gadget tries to calm her down. Sometimes horrible things happen and we can't do much about it. You tried your best.
Now sweetie, I'm not sure you are telling us the full story. Could you make sure you aren't leaving anything out? We are only trying to help. Gadget smiles.
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 Oh boy...
GM Baerlie |
"According to what I learned from Berntuck, an injury like that shouldn’t have killed your friend so quickly. Berntuck said gut wounds are a long slow death. I’m not sure what happened. I meant to ask the Graycloak about it, but by the time I thought to ask her, she was
already gone." Baerleyhusk answers.
Kevan Pryce |
"Wait, a Greycloak was here before he died?" Kevan looks confused. "What did she look like? And what happened to the body?"
"Did anyone else from the street see what happened?" The priest rubs his chin beard. "Perhaps we should find Runewulf and ask him about this Greycloak. If she saw anything, it could be helpful."
GM Baerlie |
"Yes, a Greycloak. I don't know who else saw what happened, I'm sorry. I was really upset, it doesn't happen every day that somebody dies in your shop. All I can recall is that the Greycloak was a tall dark women. The body was taken away by more Greycloaks about twenty minutes later."
Calvin "Cleaver of Skulls" Cark |
Calvin butts into the conversation. "A gut wound usually kills slowly unless the arrow was posioned or of a magical nature. Do you have the arrow or see if it had any special markings?" He get a little to close to the halfling while he talks.
Kevan Pryce |
Kevan smiles. "Ok, I'm sure we've taken up enough of your time. Thanks for telling us about what happened. My last question is whether you have any of those peppermint healing potions. I wouldn't mind trying one!" He chuckles.
Gadget~ |
Golly! This is getting hairy already! I kind of want to talk to the man who leads the Greycloaks, Runewulf the Unbeliever. He may have some insight into what's going on here, or at the very least we can see whether he is aware of this incident. Are others in agreement?
Calvin "Cleaver of Skulls" Cark |
"Yes let's go talk to these Graycloaks." Calvin waits for someone to lead. "I do not know this town. Where can we find them?"
GM Baerlie |
"Sure, wait here." she says and returns with a potion with glittery green dust in the liquid. "Thats a potion of cure light wounds, I sell it for 50gp." the shopkeeper tries to sell a potion.
Giovanni knows where to find the Graycloak's headquarter.
Do you want to go there now or later, after questioning the other two on the list?

About how long is she out of sight of the storefront while retrieving the potion?

I agree that we should see the Greycloaks next. If this isn't known about, it should be reported to them immediately. If it is known about...well, we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
Oh! The perils of being lawful.
Korizon |
Korizon frowns and scatches his head, shouldn't we ask all we know before asking those we don't know? Right now we know one woman was nearby and the guy died - maybe if we knew it happenned three times we could yell at them better?
GM Baerlie |
three votes for seeing the Graycloaks now, only one against
You head directly to the Graycloak Headquarters. Much like the uniforms the Graycloaks adorn themselves in, their watch station in the Ascendant Court is plain gray and understated, but still ominous in its presentation. Large granite blocks create an imposing facade to the tall structure. The structure would be even more impressive if it weren’t on the opposite end of the block from the larger and far more ostentatious Chelish Embassy.
Kevan, are you showing your religious affiliations?
One of the guards asks "What is your desire?"
Gwendolyn the Strange -CORE- |

Thank you very much.
Gadget walks up to the clerk and politely states We wish to see Runewulf. Please lead the way. Hopefully he isn't too busy! Gadget smiles.
Giovanni, the Lucky |
"May I ask who you are and what you want to discuss?"
"Why yes you may, m'lady. My name... is Giovanni! And this is Kevan... and this is Gadget... and this is Calvin... and this is Gwen... and this is Korizon... and this... is Hera..." he says as he gestures with a flourish towards each of his compatriots.
"We are here hoping we may assist with an investigation that your fellow Greycloaks have been conducting. I am sure Mr. Runewulf knows about a string of recent muggings. Some of those muggings, and murders, involved couriers that were hired by our employer."
Saving key details for when we actually speak to Runewulf.
Calvin "Cleaver of Skulls" Cark |
Calvin stays quite and follows the clerk to the Captain's Office.
Gadget~ |
Gadget bluntly, but politely, states We definitely wish to help! We are with the Pathfinders on our investigation into the muggings that have been happening stealing our organization's relics. We have investigated an eyewitness of one of the muggings who said that she saw a Greycloak come in with the man who got mugged.
I was wondering if you knew who that Greycloak may be, as perhaps they may know more information about what happened, or maybe you have a report about what happened. It was at a shop across from Cayden's Hall, a...mercantile and curiosity shop if I remember correctly. She identified the Greycloak as a tall dark woman, but didn't get a close enough view otherwise.
We wish to get this matter cleared up as soon as possible. I, for one, do not think Greycloaks would be involved in such shady business, and I think it would be good for both of our organizations if we could get this matter cleared up, both to have people stop stealing our relics and have the God's Market be a safer place for you and everyone else in it.
We still have some other leads but felt this was important enough to let you know immediately.
Trying to get on his good side here by being direct and not hiding any information from him.
Giovanni, the Lucky |
Giovanni smiles.
Well, well! Little lass hit everything on the mark, that's for sure! Except for one thing...
"This is Gadget, by the way," he says towards Runewulf, "She's a little excitable, to say the least, but it's only because she wants what's right."
Diplomacy to Aid: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Edit: Ha! We both posted the same remark within less than a minute of each other. Great timing =)
