'Ditto' what edduardco said.
edduardco
You should read about the Mourning from either 3.5 sourcebook or 4th ED source book. Also we will post 4-5 times a week. I will also be pming you for rp stuff along the way as needed.
Could you refer me to specific material, the name of the book and page, thanks. I have already read some of the material in the Eberron campaign setting.
@Saronis how did you write your character stats below your nickname?
Saronis
Suggestion:
Taken from Fyrian's mouth, for I could not say it better myself:
A couple of housekeeping things. Everyone at this point needs to have your full character sheet in your alias description. This has some pertinent information that I need and it's hard when I have to go hunting for it. Some of you do not have this, please fix it... you know who you are ;)
Also, some of the gameplay information that I need all the time can posted right on your character right in the forum. "How is that?" you may ask. Well let me tell you! Just post this in your Class/Levels area of your profile:
Fighter Lv 1 HP: 13/13, - AC: 18/T: 12/FF: 16 - Perception: +7 - Initiative: +4 - F: +4 / R: +2/ W: +2 - CMB: +4 - CMD: 16, Speed: 20
This is one of my characters (click the link for an example of what it looks like in game), obviously you need to fill in the info for your character. Any questions on what is what, let me know.
This way if I need to roll something for you (by the way I'll be rolling a lot of your saving throws, perception, initiative, things like that, you roll for damage) I can do it without having to dig up your character sheet.

Hey there finally got my changeling rogue done....darned real life ;)
Still want to tweak the background a bit, and I still need to show my abilities build for you ash, but please have a look see and let me know if there are any issues.
Saronis
I don't know about you guys, but I am getting the feeling that this thread/campaign is not going to happen any time soon. Is that the foreshadowing of the campaign.
Ashman are you really busy with other games or life?
I just feel that a lot of my questions have not been answered.
Hopefully all is well, get back to us soon!
DM Ashman
Sorry for taking so long. Yes I have been busy college algebra and Army stuff. Anyway to answer your question. Check pg 188 in the 3.5 Campaign book also check pg 12 if you have the 4th ED book. I am giving you some background from that. So far our group is.
Erdath-Warforge Artificer
Saronis- Wood Elf Fighter
Cil- Changeling Rouge
I was also waiting for someone else to join but it looks like it maybe just you three. That's fine if you guys are comfortable with that?
Saronis
I have a few people that might be interested... but I would suggest that we start and make sure that the nuts and bolts don't all fall out, the ones that do fall out we can set back into place.
Also what about that Totem guy?
DM Ashman
As far as totem guy.. I will do an invite for him. Also Sar your right we need to get the nuts and bolts down. As are character sheets go i like you model, I can see all the combat stuff I need. Here what I feel are nuts and bolts. The stats need to match the math, also I know threw a monkey wrench when I said you could use Pathfinder skill sets. At the risk of making some of you upset, I am going to reverse that choice, we are doing a 3.5 game, I get if you don't want to reverse you choice. I am using the third printing of the 3.5 players handbook 1 for my core rules etc. Also Eberron books are cannon. So with that said, lets get stuff up by Sunday and on Monday I will get us rolling. It's going to be great game !!
Ash
Pauwell Bas
I'll get a build up by later today, backstory up by either tonight or tomorrow.
Are you sure you want to change it back to 3.5 skills? :(
I've thought about it, and I'll make a sneaky ranged character. Not often done with totemists, and the utility should be good. I'll probably multiclass. I'll change the name and pic of this profile once I'm done with what I need to.
Edit: Question, can we use Flaws/Traits from Unearthed Arcana? I know some DMs let them be used, some don't, just thought I'd ask.
Another thing I'd like to know is if I could use a modified Strongheart halfling. Strongheart halfling can be found in the Faerun Campaign Setting. I figured I'd ask because I saw a wood elf in here. :)
The modification I had in mind was similar to the Human-Azurin conversion. Take off some skill stuff for an extra point of essentia. I'm not sure if it's worth all of the skills that halflings get, but if you're willing to think about it, I can work with you on it.
Saronis
So, do we have action points?
Do we get traits? Are there any campaign traits?
If we are starting 60 days after the Day of Mourning, what immediate impacts would you say that has to us?
Any ideas where we will be starting, like the city of Sharn?
I will set up my character sheet math tonight, focusing on the ability scores and skill modifiers.
Thanks for getting back!
DM Ashman
Yes to action points & 3.5 skills. Let me look at traits, by the way is the source of traits in 3.5 I know it from pathfinder. Also everyone's starting in Sharn, your military units / or starting faction has asked you to go there There is cease fire for the moment as the 5 nations try figure out what's next
Pauwell Bas
Unearthed Arcana (3.5) has traits of its own, as well as flaws. They aren't like PF traits. You make sacrifices to get bonuses.
Just going to draw attention to another edit I made, regarding Strongheart halfling in the post above. Actually, I'll just quote it.

As a future multiclasser, I figure it to be in my best interests to ask whether you will be using fractional BAB/Saves.
As you don't have Unearthed Arcana, I'll explain it here.
Good BAB Gives +1/level
Medium Gives .75/level
Poor gives .5/level
This is added up, and the end value, rounded down, is your BAB. This makes it a little less penalizing to multiclass with 3/4 BAB classes.
For saves:
Good gives +.5 /level
Poor gives +1/3 /level
This is actually often detrimental. The +2 bonus from a good save is only applied once, so you won't see a person with 3 classes getting a +6 save before ability scores or additional advancement.
Edit: Jeez, I guess I was wrong. The +2 stays. Your bonus is just +2.5 at 1st level.
DM Ashman
After reading your post about the fractions. I am thinking maybe a house rule should cover it. What I mean is have you seen the advantage/disadvantage system? If you have an advantage by all your bonus etc you simply roll two 20 siders and take the best one, same way with the disadvantage. Tell me what you think?
Pauwell Bas
I'm not entirely sure I follow. Do you mean, if you have a higher bonus, you roll twice and take the best, and if not, take the worst? All that does is stack the odds even more in favor of the person with higher mods.
The fractional BAB is a little extra bookkeeping, but it helps multiclass characters with less than full BAB to hit, which you often need if multiclassing multiple 3/4 BAB classes, and fractional saves don't give much of a benefit overall. You might see a difference of +1 to +2 over a career with saves being used.
Pauwell Bas's build is up, sans gear. Has been since last night. Once I finish up gear, I'll reformat it, because I know that it's an eyesore, and put the required info in the classes/levels section.

Hey Ashman,
I was wondering exactly what connections I can have already of made in Sharn. I am thinking I have lived in the town for about 7 years now. I work in several forges, but one in specific for the house of creation. My living accommodations are apart of my work for the house of creation. Though my living accommodations are tight, and in another district compared to the forge, I still enjoy my neighbors. As an adventurer I know that being nice to people and knowing them is far better than having enemies. I don't have very good diplomacy skills, but I can cook and enjoy spending time with others.
I enjoy working at one forge in specific, The Shielder. This is where I met Erdath and several other warforges. They are great beings who are just learning the ways of the world, and take my lack of diplomacy and charisma in stride. We have become good friends and tend to help each other with crafting or at least discuss how to create something.
I wanted to specify the specifics and see what you will allow before putting it into the Gameplay.
Saronis
Hey Pauwell Bas,
I was wondering where your race and class are from, which books?
Saronis
Cil or Pauwell Bas any ideas on how we can know each other?
Saronis
Ash, check out my character, do I need to make any other adjustments?
Pauwell Bas
Saronis, my Class and Race are from Magic of Incarnum.
Really sorry my stuff isn't up yet. I've had a hell of a time getting to my computer lately.
My backstory right now is:
Which brings us to the shifters. The shifters decided to take me in, seeing this hairy little kid crying in the forest. Eventually, they got me to calm down, but the shock of what had happened seemed to have wiped my memory. I didn't know who I was, nor where I was. Some, they taught me, but they kept the fact that I was actually human, (or nearly indistinguishable from human) as well as my parentage. They raised me as their own, brushing off the lack of body/facial hair as I was growing up to being a late bloomer. Although I couldn't compete in direct combat as well as the others, my control over Incarnum appeared around the age of 15-16, allowing me to become as stealthy, if not more so, than a lot of the other young ones, and a little bit tougher, too.
At the age of 18, I was finally told about my heritage. I was incredibly adamant that I wasn't from the Cannith line, that I was actually born of them. My facial and body hair had finally grown in, after all. I was presented with proof, a small ID with my birth name, a signet ring of Cannith, and a few other trinkets solidifying my non-shifter blood in my mind. And so I ran away, turning to the military to take my mind off of everything. The lies my life had become, and figuring out what to do. I continued going by the name I had while a shifter, Pauwell Bas, and not my given name, Maurice de'Cannith. Cannith, after all, had denied me my birthrights, and denied that I was indeed a Cannith.
The military was harsh, but then, so was life with the shifters. It felt somewhat natural, although I could easily let my emotions fly free during anything. My abilities lent themself quite well to scouting, and so a scout I became. My abilities progressed, and I found myself able to shape more things, from the claws I had since these powers arrived to a shirt of sorts, allowing me to teleport short distances. These only solidified my place as a scout.
My abilities were deemed to be helpful in an urban setting, and so I was told to go to Sharn, to help investigate the Mourning. Although I initially disagreed, I still went. I have now been there for 30 days, each of the marks I had tailed leading to dead ends.
I'm not entirely sure how we could have met. Perhaps you saw me a few times, tailing people you thought were interesting, and decided to check out who I was, what I was doing here, etc? Once you found out what you could, you decided to try and recruit me?
Still working on gear, will get that up soon.
Edit: If I need to change anything, (namely the cannith stuff, most likely,) Just tell me, and I can get that out of there. I thought it would provide a nice bias towards Cannith for Pauwell.
Pauwell Bas
I do have some questions concerning gear, though. Do we have access to the Arms and Equipment guide for some mundane items?
Some items I'm looking at in particular are the hammock, a springwall or two, a bag of marbles or two, and a collapsible grappling hook.
Total, I'm looking at the above stuff,
Gear: 243.5gp - whatever I'm allowed to purchase
MWK Studded Leather 175gp 20lbs
Light Wooden Shield 3gp 5lbs
50 feet of Silk Rope 10gp, 5 lbs
Backpack 2gp, 2 lbs
Hammock 5gp, 1 lb
5 Sunrods, 10gp total, 1lb each
10 Pieces of chalk, 1sp total
Belt pouch holding chalk, 1gp .5lb
4 Flasks of oil, 4sp total, 1lb each
42.5 lbs total + Weight of allowed extra gear.
Saronis
No I fixed all my skills last night, Perception (+1 from wisdom modifier, +2 racial). Anything else?
Saronis
I can understand that, and for my elf fighter when I do a listen, search, or spot check they will all be the same. I will never put any ranks into any of them so it is all the same. If Ashman wants me to change that I can, but redundant. I will be changing the rest of my skills to be just 3.5 then.
So we will not be using the Pathfinder skills. Can I still use the Pathfinder fighter? Otherwise I will be bringing in a duskblade.
Cil
Hmm, oops forgot to switch my skills back to 3.5.
As for how we know each other, as a freelancer ( under the radar as far as the thieves guilds goes ) Cil would have to source her equipment somewhere. That somewhere could be one of the forges frequented by Saronis and Erdath. She may have even done a small job for them at one time; perhaps the retrieval of some item of value.
Erdath
Given that we do have a rogue (because previously I wasn't sure about that, sorry Cil) and my character have the highest charisma I will change some of my character skill for something more social and perhaps some traits
Saronis
Nix on the duskblade, I will keep with fighter, I just need to know about the other questions so I can retrofit Saronis again.
Pauwell Bas
DM Ashman, I was wondering if we had access to the Arms and Equipment guide? I was wondering about a few things, namely a bag or two of marbles, a folding grappling hook, a springwall or two, and a hammock. This'll still leave me with a decent chunk of change, but I was wondering about your thoughts.
Saronis, I was looking at your point buy, and you seem to be going by the Pathfinder point-buy rules, not the 3.5 ones.
DM Ashman
Let me answer some things ...
Paul nice story - keep the equipment either eberron spec meaning only eberron stuff or keep it basic dnd 3.5
Saronis- what type of Elf are you meaning Valenar or ? Your first post background works for Aerenal Elf.
Here is the 32 Point build that I am going by
All ability scores start at 8.
Take 32 points to spread out among all abilities. The point cost for the various scores goes like thus (with no base ability lower than 8 and none higher than 18):
Ability score =>Point cost
==========================
9 =>1
10 =>2
11 =>3
12 =>4
13 =>5
14 =>6
15 =>8
16 =>10
17 =>13
18 =>16
Saronis
Saronis is an Aerenal Elf. He has been redone and awaits final approval. Pauwell and Cil I like what you have proposed and agree to those situations.
Pauwell Bas
Saronis, what book is Wood Elf in? The only book I can think of that has it would be the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, and probably Races of Faerun as well. Just curious.
Once I get home from class, I'll finish up Pauwell, and have him ready to go. Sorry it's taken so long, I don't have a ton of free time.
