Brand new PFS player, still figuring out how this whole mess works.

A tall human woman walks over to the gnome. "Welcome to the Society! It looks like you're new here. Don't worry, we were all new once and you know our motto "explore, cooperate and report".

She winks "although I must say I don't really like the reporting bit"

Welcome to Pathfinder Society Max! There is a lot of information out here, see the links at the top of the page or ask in our discussion thread. New games are offered on a regular basis and our beloved Venture Agent Hmm has a list of games that reserve places for new players at this link

We typically get a new game startups in the Recruitment thread about once per 2 days (I'm taking a wild guess here). They are usually first come, first serve, so a quick response is your best bet. They come in waves though. Some days we have 5 startups and some days 0 so be patient. When a PBP game-day is ongoing it really messes with the even flow of start-ups though. A PBP game day is like a con. Boons are handed out and GMs get free source material so everyone is really into it.

This group is very newbie friendly and many GMs will go out of their way to run a game for new players like yourself if you ask, or will reserve spots in low level games for new players to make sure they get an opportunity to play.

If there is interest, i will run an all-new player table of The Confirmation for Session 2. Don't need support, as I have the scenario already.

If you know other first-timers who want a gentle entry into PFS-PBP have them send me a PM. I'll take the first 6 who reply and are first timers in either PBP or PFS (or both).

DM Doctor Evil, I have played two PbP games but would love to play in a game for new players.

Others who are newer than I should take priority over me, but I would like to play!

Tita steps over to the table where DoctorEvil sits. "Aye, I be trying to figure this mess out. If'n yer willing to help a lass get all these rules straight, Tita can show you how we do it in the forest!" The imposing woman bursts into uproarious laughter, her crooked teeth poking out. She slaps the table with a wide hand and waves a wench over to serve them drinks, still letting out a quiet snort.

I'm fairly confident in the rules of PF and PbP posting etiquette, some of the things such as "Chronicles" I could use help with. Not terribly sure how it works, to show you're really earning your XP and gear and keep everything official. Excited for my first PbP campaign though!

Since you mentioned forum etiquette, consider this your first lesson ...

Recruitment is for when someone wants to start a game and recruit players. The Flaxseed lodge recruitment thread is typically used to announce the game. Most often the announcement contains a link to the recruitment thread of the actual game where folks can sign up. Another popular option is to put a link to an Excel spreadsheet for sign ups.

Gameplay is for the meat and potatoes of a PbP game, where players post in character and the GM does the majority of his GMing. In Flaxseed , it is used to noodle around and role-play outside of an official game, typically while waiting for another game or just for fun. Yea, some people can't get enough of that old role play thing.

Discussion is to discuss rules, ask questions out of character, or anything else that comes up. Sometimes folks will just discuss the weather. A common type of post in this section of a game thread is to warn the other players about vacations or MIA periods. Recently someone asked for opinions in the Flaxseed discussion thread on how to improve the quality of the PFS forum. That one had lots of legs.

"Hey. Um. Look. Over here." A dour gnome tapes a note to a wall. "We need a few agents to go to the plane of earth. We have four already but there's room for 2 more. They aren't starting until next month though."

If you have a PC between levels 1-5, I have 2 open spots for PFS scenario 8-05: Ungrounded But Unbroken. We will start on October 6 as part of Gameday 6.

"More room opened up... a lot more room." The gnome adjusts her hat and puts up another sign. "Okay, then."

Tita stumbles back into the bar, seemingly a little confused. "Don't mind me lads, just trying to figure out where a lady can freshen up." She lets out an amused chortle and returns to her seat.

Had to remake her as a PFS character, this is just me dotting the thread.

A distinguished gentleman in finely tailored clothes saunters into the lodge, twirling his moustache absently with his index finger ”Adril Hestram seems to be having a spot of bother with something or the other, and has requested some assistance…” He looks around at the assembled Pathfinders and starts pointing at random ”You, you, you three, and umm... Yes, you! Come with me.” He turns around before anyone can protest and immediately exits the building.

"I doubt it."

"Psha. That is because you ... other people... have not been paying attention to the prime examples of Taldane training at it's finest! BWA-HA-HA HA!"

(Covert prestidigitation.)

*Walks by*

"At its finest?
So that picture of a Kitty with a pink ribbon in its hair is supposed to be on your cape?"

"Ahem... the feline is a graceful creature and a ferocious killer. Wonderfully representative of a Taldan general. Additionally, the pink ribbon interweaves the classic colour of strength. A fine crest indeed. Also, in a cat it would be 'fur' not 'hair'."

*Looks up*

"The feline is ferocious when facing a lion, RAWR!
A lion crest is cool, a kitten with a ribbon, that's just silly."

*Conjures a flute to accent statement with a short tune*

"Especially when the kitten on the emblem has an actual hairstyle drawn on it."

A gnome dressed in the finest Taldan fashion walks up to the conversation, a shaggy wolf padding along beside him "Taldan is so magnificent, even our kittens are ferocious killers..." He looks at the kitten in question, it's hair tied in a cute little bow "And they have a style that makes regular, Un-Taldan felines jealous! It is only due to our incredible modesty that the lion crest is not more common. The splendiferous sight of it would only make people from other lands weep with envy." He scratches the wolf behind it's ear "And that's nothing compared to the puppies of Taldan!"

It should be obvious she's referring to a hello Kitty emblem, so.... ;)

"A wolfy!"

Before the wolf has a chance to react, she hugs it.
"So soft, and those pretty eyes."

So was he ;)

The wolf seems to enjoy the hug "St.. Stop that! He is not cuddly, he is a mighty steed befitting a knight of my calibre..." The wolf nuzzles Lizzy as Braggett continues to protest "He's fierce... Fierce! Not cute at all, or adora- Now really, Kibble!" Bragget exclaims, hands on hips as the wolf starts licking Lizzy's face "Stop that at once!"

The gnome lass laughs.

"That tickles, hahaha."

"I'm sure he's fierce when he needs to be, but seriously, he is sweet, and soft beautiful fur."

Eadie nudges Aldebert gently(ish) in the ribs, whispering:

“Do you think that gnome could be girlfriend±boyfriend with that foppish Taldan human AND that dandy gnomey knight?”

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

"I heard that."

"Don't worry, i'm not tied to anyone. Besides, he's got too much fur...erm, -hair-, on his face for my taste."

*Looks back at Lord Braggett*
"I'm not into beards, sorry." :3

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

"What... What's happening?" Braggett, still distracted by the behaviour of his 'Fearsome' steed only hears the last sentence. He looks at Lizzy, squints slightly, and slowly says "I don't think a beard would suit you anyway."

"Quite so, gods forbid, but i was referring to yours."
"No men with beards for me."

"Oh, but yes, that armored lady suggested we were a thing.
Moreover, she thinks i'm a thing with both you and some human around here?"

Another gnome flies in, hovering above everyone and stroking his bright red beard. He is quite old and wears spectacles to help him see. On his shoulder is a faerie dragon.

He seems to join in the conversation but either ignores or is ignorant of the part about "them not being a thing." "Oh, young love! How romantic!"

In a squeaky voice, the faerie dragon asks the two gnomes a question. "Are you going to have a wedding? I love weddings! There's lots of cake!"

It seems the misunderstandings continue.

"No wedding today."

"What? Why would we get married? Can't you tell that I have a beard!" He looks around, flustered and wondering if his rugged charm and good looks have got him in over his head "Where is that rumour mongering human? I'll have her know that I will never shave it off!"

"Bah. You see, the young are wedding less and less these days. Why when I was a young dwarf it was difficult to find enough people to fill the Pathfinder Society ranks-- too many had families they didn't want to risk. Now, young lovers like these two don't even want to start a family. To them it's all gold and glory."

"I do not know it's meaning, but it is surely a symbol of ... Something suitably Tien. Perhaps rice. Or rice vinegar. Or crazed undead bathing in the stuff. It matters not. (Conjures up a solid oak lute behind her back)

"You...compare me with an elf? Hell~~oo, genuine gnome."

"And the rest of your suggested words, sir, yuck!"

And from out of the blue, Lute super smasher!, improvised: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19

And she hits, sending him flying.

"Truly sir, us girls are sensitive creatures."

She takes the lute under the arm.
"Go to sleep, good man, go to sleep,
Lay down and start counting your sheep.
Dream of Tian Xia and kittens,
Of geishas, and saké and also the mittens."

After landing from his airborne experience, Aldebert falls asleep.

Since you're linking the hello kitty reference to Japan, i've been there and seen that.
Walking through one of their shopping mall streets (which are HUGE!), i saw a big pink Hello Kitty sign, in front of a shop devoted entirely to that. Funnily, half the customers were adult men, lol. ^^

"Right... that's enough! Madam gnome... if you insist on defending your honor then I must INSIST that our traditions be upheld. The appropriate manner for engagement in a duel is that of dueling blades or fisticuffs. Please, make your selection and designate your second."

"Why pick on someone my size?"

(Big puppy eyes)

"I humbly apologize, sir, but i am no experienced combatant."

"Instead, if you'd allow me, i shall perform, and donate funds for sir Aldebert's next two drinks. As soon as he wakes up, and the amount of funds allow it, of course."

I think this has been the most RP between PCs i've had opportunity for with this little bard.

Braggett just nods at the gnome lass's totally reasonable response to Aldebert's comments, and considers shaving his beard after all.

"Ah, how fickle love is. A relationship come and gone like it never happened." The old gnome responds still a little oblivious to what happened. Drat, I was hoping to a comedy-movie-esque gang-up stemming from a misunderstanding. ;)

We still could. Lizzy's not an aggressive person by default, but with the comments even a patient girl can get an outburst.
However she wouldn't be the one starting it.

"Hrmm... how disappointing. I was hoping to bear witness to a rousing round of fisticuffs! Nobody seems to care for the classics these days... Everyone is all about shooting arrows and wielding those wretched polearms! So uncivilized... that is a soldier's work."

He realizes what he's just said in the face of Aldebert, chief crossbowman of the Taldan guard, and a pair of fuzzy ears and tufts of fur appear on his face. "Err... no offense meant... sir."

“Ooh, ooh! Did someone call for a shave?”

Eadie draws her falchion and advances on Lord Fizzlebotham.

“Do you know August Autumnwind, M’Lord? His coiffure is one of mine.”

Braggett's eyes go wide "N... Now listen here! Performing an unsanctioned pogonotomy on a Knight of the realm is absolutely unacceptable..." He takes a few steps backwards, away from Eadie "I must insist that you desist immediately!"

(Tosses Braggett a leather pouch)

The gnome in the corner with bright red hair bursts out laughing. "What a day to be in the Lodge. I haven't seen this many gnomes in one place since. Well I think it was Uncle Fizzlebloat's birthday. That also ended in fisticuffs and an explosion or two."

The wolf she's been leaning against lifts his head out and gives Lizzy sad puppy dog eyes because he didn't get petted.

"The names Feybella. Most people call me Fey."

I think he should get the message.

Lizzy waves to the other gnome with a smile.
"Hey there.", and she heads over there....where she can't resist petting the other wolf.

"Nice to meet you, i'm Lizzy."

She tilts her head, as something Feybella said dawns on her.
"Fizzlebloat? Would he happen to have a cousin named Micky Wigglemuggs?"

"I know August! He's super nice! Ann I know a really nice ga-nome too... her name is Diri Lizz....zen...bet... uh... sumfin."

Marcus looks at the Tiefling and his jaw hits the floor. "What... is... that... thing."

Whatcha call me? August clearly has no idea what the word coiffure means.

Rhiannon enters the Lodge and takes a long look around. There seems to be a bit of excitement going on, mostly involving several excitable gnomes. The paladin glances at a dwarf and a human that appear to be squaring off near a tiefling. Rhiannon cocks her head and speaks in a soft voice that is at odds with the heavy armor and bastard sword she wears strapped diagonally across her back. "It appears to be demonic in its appearance, though I sense no evil in him."

"Hey there, I could use a shave!" Desmond pipes up from the dark corner where he was napping for far too long. He ambles over to the woman holding the falchion up to the nervous gnome.

"Be careful with that, I think you're spooking the kids," he turns and gives Lord Fizzlebotham a wink.

A large wolf follows the man and nips at the man's satchel. "Alright, alright... I'll feed ya." He throws a day's worth of rations over in the corner. "Get on back there and eat, ya whiny baby."

He steps up close to Eadie and juts out his chin. "Alright then, hold that thing steady and gimme a shave. Feel like I've been sleeping for years and I gotta look good if'n the society can give me an assignment worthy of my talents." He gives a smirk to nobody in particular as he glances around the room.

"Hurmph!" Braggett bristles at the newcomer's comments "Who are you calling a kid? I'll have you know tha- Argh!" He throws a load of marbles at the feet of Eadie as she advances uncomfortably close, emptying the bag that Lizzy gave him. Lord Fizzlebotham then turns and runs towards the two gnomes in the corner, shouting "The beard stays, the beard stays!" His wolf runs happily around him *Woof woof*

“Geez, a simple ‘no thank-you’ was all that was required.” (Yeah … Probably not)

“August, a coiffure is just a hairstyle, like the one I gave you on that boat on Lake Encarthan, remember?”
