Oh sure, note the obvious flaws in the high-Int, low-Wis character's plan. ;) As for crafting though, I was really just wanting to make certain we can supply ourselves with masterwork items I can enchant. After all, NPCs don't always stay crunchy in milk...

Stinky Pete wrote:
Perhaps the story behind the strange ore Alexis possesses can create another plothook for Pete. Perhaps she or her backers are behind his hiring because they see him as a budding minerologist who can provide expertise and help - and he sees the opportunity to find rare and precious minerals for his craft.

Yes! This was actually what I was hinting at earlier when I mentioned Pete's skills were just as vital to the expedition as security, and financiers. :)

Nazard: Would Rath and I know what abilities our Wayfinders would have? I allowed a 2-year period in Alexis' backstory so she'd have time to complete her Pathfinder training, etc.

OK, off to work now. Back online shortly...

Actually, I wasn't sure exactly how large our expedition was so I thought perhaps wearing more than one 'hat' would be useful.

3 ships all told, filled with soldiers and colonists of every useful trade (and one or two not so useful trades).

Rath, wouldn't you rather use your extra skill points on Hit Points? - You'll need them. Rath is an incredible athlete! That should be his craft, I think.

Why, thank you, Pete. And may I say your beard makes you look quite dashing. :)

Seriously, yes I would like to keep every Skill point for my monk-y abilities but I am team-minded first. If I need to have a skill, short of moving real heavy stuff and grunt labor, I'm willing to do it. The one professional skill I'd like to take in Arcadia would be sailor. I could see us building a small explorer boat and traveling up and down river systems - that would be a kick.

Ravarath wrote:

I've never really liked the profession skills for handling anything other than money-making myself. In the games I run, I've made a separate skill called Handle Ship (Dex) (mirroring d20 Modern's Pilot (Dex) skill) to cover such skills while Knowledge (geography) covers navigation.

Of course, Stormwrack uses Prof: sailor and Know: geography so I might be in the minority. Either way, given Alexis' family history, whatever skill Nazard wants us to use for shiphandling will be on my 2nd-level wishlist also. (Alexis' ultimate goal is to someday construct a ship capable of sailing thru the air and planes supported by psycho-reactive engines. If this ore her father found lives up to her theories, it could be the first step towards that dream.)

Nazard wrote:

If The Nereid joins the expedition, then Alexis would naturally desire to make the voyage upon its familiar decks.

But mark me Dwarf! If you go looking me by when you're mustering a diggin' band, yer done for! I ain't the slickest goldgrubber this side of the Worlds Edge fer nuttin'. Ye'll be wearin' a flea-ridden latrine rag fer a loincloth as soon as ya return to shore if ya double cross the Feldspar! But I know ye'll do us all proud, mate! Now. You were askin fer supplies? Well I happens to know dat yer business partner Dingledumb has a warehouse right near that ship o' yours. You be needin' supplies and I'm sure he'll oblige. Sure it's locked....but like I said..I knowed yer brother...and so did Dingbat. He knows right well dat fer a Darknugget like you, a lock is an invitation!"

Since Stinky is supposed to be destitute, I'll use whatever money Stinky has left in his allotment to "puchase" supplies from Dingle Diamondblade's warehouse and load it before sailing. Does that sound OK?

BTW. I switchedd him to Neutral Good....stealing from an enemy is OK..sometimes. lol

Alexis was asking me about Master work thieves tools earlier. Sorry I missed that post. I have to reevaluate the gear selection. So far all he has for sure is a barrel full of donkey and a few sundries.

The dwarf is going "shopping" at his hated rival's warehouse...I'll have a list by tomorrow afternoon.

As you don't want to entertain my ideas for a character, I'll leave.

Good Luck and have fun.

Kidding aside... if I were to multi-class him (and I'm not really tempted to), I'd probably just do straight Fighter and do all the Weapon Focus & Weapon Specialization chains for Unarmed fighting... essentially making him the monk-on-'roids, or would that be monkzilla?

Rath, what about being know as The Monk Ness Monster™? ^_^

As far as multiclassing goes, I'm strongly tempted to have Alexis dip 1-level into Rogue (after having seen some frontier action) to represent her toughening-up a bit and learning to develop skills and responses aren't based strictly upon academia. The only concern I have about this is would be if a one-level delay in her spells and crafting abilities would cause problems.

BTW, at what hours of the day are the rest of you typically active? I work 11pm to 9am ET (GMT-5) Monday thru Thursday while on the weekends I try to be up and about during the daytime. I can post pretty much at-will once I'm at work and generally stay up until noon on days when I work that night. However, if there's another "window" during the day when everyone would be posting heavily then I can attempt to adjust my sleep schedule to be more flexible.

Im active from about 4pm-10am (luckily I can post from work) EST weekdays or somewhere there abouts usually im not in the states +13 hour time difference here so afternoon there is very early AM here. weekends i can be up all hours.

With an audible "hmmph", Alexis sets out for the docks.

Elorin slowly gets up and bows graciously, "My lady it was lovely making your aquitance and the best of luck to you." A little uncertain he quickens his pace out of the tavern to catch up to lady Alexis.

After he catches up with Alexis, "My lady, I have not travelled by ship much, spending most of my life on the road, is this a long journey?"

To be honest, Elorin isn't particularly looking forward to any ship voyage, but that is where the glory and the pay is!

I can typically post during the day and am on-line 8-5pm EST and can check most nights around 8-9pm. Will send private message with e-mail.

The Duke's journal indicated that crossing the Arcadian Ocean took The Nereid a week shy of three months."

Alexis blushes slightly and suddenly "remembers" to inspect her wayfinder as a breeze from the Inner Sea ruffles her golden tresses.

Just to make some things official (although most of you seem to have started the campaign without me already!!!), the list of accepted characters to date is:
Rath
Alexis
Stinky Pete (Peet?)
Abbas
Elorin
Djal

That makes a monk, a wizard, a rogue, a cleric, a ranger, and a druid. I have one friend I gamed with years ago interested in a spot, but he's new to Golarion so we're trying to work something out (possibly a bard or an oracle devoted to chaos (why I wasn't too keen on Deevor's character)). At the moment, our ranger is an archer specialist, which leaves poor lonely Rath to stand up all by himself between the baddies and the squishy people. I'd really love to see a single-class fighter or barbarian added to the works and then we'd be ready to go (hint, hint Sully or Talomyr...c'mon you guys, you know you waaaaanna).

This voyage officially starts in Cassomir, makes a stop in Absalom, and then heads non-stop for the Arch and beyond. While the Pathfinder Society is based out of Absalom, there's no reason that the party couldn't meet up at the beginning in Cassomir (indeed, Falcon Gray, the man in charge of the Pathfinder contingent and defacto Venture-Captain once you arrive in Arcadia and build a Lodge is starting the voyage in Cassomir). It would be nice for the whole group to start together in one place or another. Starting in Absalom would only cut out a few role-playing slash getting-to-know-the-NPCs opportunities - no major encounters. Thoughts?

Nazard wrote:

Nazard, you're killing me, but I'll see if I can come up with an interesting concept for a fighter. In the mean time, if you see another interesting concept roll through here, by all means take it and start your game.

It will likely take me a couple of days to put something together, with Sully's two games and my CoT starting up soon, but I'll see what I can do.

Just got confirmation that it's a bard we're adding, not an oracle. I was telling him a bit about Pathfinder character creation, which reminded me that I haven't talked about house rules in creation. I really need to put together a word doc for myself on all of them, but I'll post them as I remember them.

The one that really sticks to mind at the moment, is I allow the max skill ranks cap as hitdice+1. I like the idea of super-specialized characters without going into the extreme. I tried for awhile with no cap, but that just got ridiculous, especially with rogues who wanted to just sneak and open locks, and could bypass any guard or trap at third level. The plus 1 is a very modest boost that reflects a bit of sacrifice in one area (another skill) with a boost to another.

Of course, max hp at first level, and from then on I use the "secret roll" option. Roll for hp, and if you like it great, if you don't, you can ask for me to roll, but then you have to take it, even if it's worse.

This will be medium xp track, but that's irrelevant for you, as I'll just let you know when to level up.

Someone on these boards had created a really neat google sites template for campaigns that I like. I was contemplating using it for the actual game, except it e-mails dice rolls instead of embedding them in the posts. Would people be interested if I were to set one up for this game as a place to chit-chat, keep track of treasure, NPC histories, etc.?

Eloring smiles and tries to force down the growing feeling of dread at spending that much time at sea, "Ah my lady I look forward to your charming company as well as meeting some of the fine new folk on this voyage. The tales they shall write about our exploits in this new world shall be legendary."

I would be fine with us all meeting in Cassomir, means more role-play up front and we would all know each other by the time we stopped in Absolom, which means we wouldn't have to leave anyone out or have side paths in the beginning, just my two coppers.

Male Human Cleric 3

ok so to get to know everyone RP begins but first just a few questions I noted in my backround that i have been hired by a pathfinder, but who is it exactly or is it better if im hired by someone else on this expedition? dont think it matters where im picked up Absalom or cass up to you where we begin really. also have you started a new thread for the campaign if so where.

*so now that thats out of the way, once I am near the party introductions begin*

Abbas walks toward you raising a hand in greeting "hail and well met, it seems we will be spending some time together during this voyage. I am Abbas Abbad priest of Sarenrae and I shall be serving as healer and surgeon during our voyage. Dawnflower willing I will not need to use my skills. So enough talk of me tell me of your selves should you feel inclined."

hey, found my way over from LImbo (i see a couple of you guys over there), when is the game thread starting? (or has it already and i'm just missing it?) I'll be interested to see how the game progresses.

I'd offer Biter as a potential character, but you look like you got your hands full in terms of players, so i'll just lurk. (I realize you never asked, but still...)

Nazard said he still had a spot open for a fighter or a barbarian. Throw you hat into the ring, see what happens.

Nazard: my vote would be to keep the actual game/discussion here on the paizo boards and merely link to additional media as needed. As for meeting up, i like how in our attempt to come up with a group idea, as you asked, that we've sort of been running meet up scenarios in an organic fashion. Perhaps you could just pick it up from there (seems like most everyone is in cassomir already).

Edit: why doe my phone keep undoing capitalization? >:/

I would add my vote for keeping it on this board, but only because my work doesn't block it so I can post during the day :)
Just let us know and the roleplaying can begin!

Personally, I like Biter as a character. He cracks me up so much, I'm thinking of stealing him for my homebrew IRL campaign... with your permission, of course. Rath could definitely use a fighting pal. Up to you, I think you might have to tweak Biter a bit to fit into the 'team orientation' of this group - but he'd be a kick to have along. Just my 2 coppers.

Oh, definitely playing here; the other website would be for keeping track of other information. I'll set it up and if people don't like it, we'll just let it fade into the ether.

No! Not Biter! Never Biter, although Therena would be glad to have the little menace out of her kitchens, and Arryn won't have to worry about having to kill him anymore.

Are you being serious here? I thought he would be a fun addition. I'm hoping you're joshin' me... everyone loves Biter! What if i apologize profusely for having him call Arryn "Rat Runt"?

(ok, seriously... i really shouldn't offer Biter?)

And Rath, of course you can use Biter. Just think Conan (the real one) if he were just under 3 feet tall.

You might have told me, so I then I wouldn't have spent time sketching out a story and getting the start of the character going. I just thought you were ignoring me. Oh well...

I'm happy to start in either but, if I had my druthers, I wouldn't mind hopping the boat at Cassomir (since that is where my background ends conveniently). As a few of us have been 'in character' in Limbo (an extra-planar bar in another thread - for those who don't know the reference) we could step out of the bar into either location really. Although Alexis/Alis have been principally passing between Limbo and Cassomir so for continuity - I'd lean that way. [shrug]

I'm just tickled to be playing... everything else is gravy! :)

Sounds intriguing! I'm up for trying it.

Oh, definitely joking, Biter. Fix him up to match the creation conditions at the beginning of this thread, and I'll have a look. (My last post got interrupted and had to be posted before I finished making it clear that Biter would be an interrsting possibility)

Moreover, Biter brings balance. So far, the only plug-ugly characters are Pete and me. All the rest are pretty/handsome. It's practically the cast of Survivor. Biter's CHA is low enough to be acceptable. ;P

Oh wow, biter would be an awesome addition- the perfect colunter to all the pretty and straight-laced folks!

Oh, excellent. I thought maybe I'd actually annoyed someone with Biter's antics. I'll get him put together over the weekend. I hope he gets in.

Alexis Kirmoon wrote:

We'll just have to watch him when he goes below decks... otherwise our cattle, draft animals, and Pete's barrel o' donkey might go 'missing'.

Male Human Cleric 3

ok finally got my character sheet up tried last night but boards went down.

roughly how soon will this be starting?

Male Elf Wizard (Admixture-Evoker) AC: 15/15/13 w/magic 23/15/20 Init:+9 Perc:+10 F:+7 R:+7 W+8

Just to be sure, Elorin isn't exactly straight laced, he just wants to impress his current employer. He figures it will be a long journey, and he isn't too sure about 3 months on a boat. Being very used to rough conditions with the last 30 years in various mercenary forces, it makes him very adaptable to different personalities and circumstances.
That is probably the main reason he has diplomacy as a class skill. Sometimes some bandit calling himself the "stag lord" is paying the bills, though Elorin didn't really want to know, he assumed it had to do with animal husbandry, other times it is a beautiful half-elf princess.
Eloring has to admit that the scenary in the later is much better than the prior. I have a feeling that he will let the princess down several times, but his ability to talk his way out of the circumstances being a key skill. "It wasn't me" comes to mind...

Since people seem really eager to start interacting, I'm starting the thread now, even though we're not ready to start the actual campaign yet.

The setting is the common room of The Anchors Away, the inn that the Pathfinder Society set you all up in to await your departure. It is the night before.

This will give you all itching to start role-playing introduction to get going. Feel free to repost some of the stuff that you've put in this thread into the official game thread.

Please, please, PLEASE, don't have the characters wander off into the rest of Cassomir. I'm really not looking for running mini-adventures before starting off the campaign - this is just for fun.

I'll post the link as soon as I get it created and the initial post made.

Enjoy folks.

Here we go.

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/theFallenS hallRise&page=1#0

As I mention in the thread itself, just enter the inn and start playing. Falcon's welcome is for whoever shows up first. As for the remaining characters, just show up whenever we finish hammering out the creation details.
