You travel 8 and a half miles with no problem, but ahead you hear a snuffling and growling sound coming from around the bend. It sounds as though there's 3-4 creatures around.

Get out and investigate on foot, or take your chances in the vehicle? It moves 40 feet a round, but can "rush" for 120 feet per round for a short period.

You're not sure. There's a possibility the road ahead could be blocked, or it could be clear enough to go around. If it is blocked you could try to Ram through whatever is up there. But that all risks damaging the vehicle.

@Donovan: They're abut 40 feet up the road, and around a bend from your vehicle. It's been about 12 hours since you met up with the party.

@Dorla: We can say you prepared them this morning, yes. Gonna take that as three separate Knowledge checks since they're basically three different creatures you've seen and it's a non-action.

Skags (general): Skags are dog-like aberrations with a tough, leathery hide, and a split mouth that thrive in the deserts. They're opportunistic creatures, alternately scavengers and predators when the opportunity arises.

Normal Skags have no particularly exciting powers, being much like armored bulldogs in combat, biting and latching onto their target, then worrying them until they expire (they have Grab). Normal Skags are Medium sized. A picture of a Skag puppy.

What Donovan and the others fought last night was an Armored Skag. They are twice as large (achieving Large size), and have even heavier armored plating covering their body. They use much the same tactics as normal Skags, but are much stronger and tougher, and can throw their bulk around to Slam into their target with crushing force as well.

By the description, what is around the corner is likely what the locals call a "Badass Skag" or an Advanced Skag to scholars. They are Skags (usually Armored Skags who have even further won the genetic lottery) with elemental powers, being either fiery, acidic, electrified, or explosive.

This is a Badasss Fire Skag, and it can breathe a line of flames from its mouth, dealing considerable damage. Likewise, its bite and slam attacks put the target in contact with its flaming body and mouth, dealing additional damage. It is immune to its associated element (in this case, fire). Finally, its armored hide is much thicker, providing it a moderate amount of damage reduction that cannot be overcome by any physical weaponry.
