ok so I'll go first....

• How do you feel about the tempo of the game?

Well, sometimes I just want more posts, but then I have a busy few days at work and realise I am the one holding things up and then I realise others have lives too and I'm just being impatient when it suits me. So overall its probably ok for me. But this is my first PBP.

• What are some of the things (if any) that you're really enjoying about this campaign that you would like to see continue?

The maps make thing super easy and I am a visual guy more than a an imaginative one so it helps a lot.

• What's missing, i.e. what would you like to see more of?

Maybe to early to tell? We've had a mix of things in such a short time. Battle, traps, conversation and negotiation.

• What can I do to make the game more enjoyable for you?

I'm linking the way it is. I think its good having a discussion about rules so that its clear and transparent but also logical. No point having rules if they don't make sense just to have rules. They need to make logical sense to enjoy them.

My amateur 2 cents worth :)

Im with Beerg on this. The pace seems fine with me, but probably more than him im the one lightnon posting.. Its just been busy for me lately.

Not to lump the rest of the questions, but im really not having any issues with your GM work. Pbp can be difficult to keep moving and so far that has not been an issue at all. Very nice job so far!

This is a very nice game, imo. No real complaints here.

1.
The tempo is actually pretty fast for pbp. It doesnt get much faster than this unless you chance on a group that does like 5 posts each everyday.

2.
I like the Jack character and want to see more tomfoolery. Maybe back in town we can get into some antics.

3.
I'm hoping there's some more plot/NPC interaction available once we get back in town. But that's not a complaint, Im fine with the quest as it is.

4.
Nothing coming to mind, like I said I think this is a very nice game.

Well, thanks for all the positive feedback folks. I'm really happy to take on constructive criticism too, though, so consider all those to be open questions from now on - if there's anything you feel that's lacking, or that you think I can do differently to improve the game, just post it up here or in a PM if you prefer.

For my part, I'm having a great time with you all - this, and its sister campaign, are my first crack at GMing pbps, and it's great to have such a fun, creative, and engaged group of players.

Alright, enough with the backslapping, time to get back to plotting your deaths facilitating your interactions with this fantasy world.

Oh sorry, late to this conversation.

I think it’s going well. As mentioned we really haven’t been able to explore our characters a whole lot and the module is a bit 2nd edition-ee lol but those are my only laments. I’m really enjoying the interaction and characters so far and the pace is solid.

Overall I’m with the others. So far so good.

Sweet, thanks Sorin, there's a bit I can work with there. It definitely is a 2e adventure, huh :) I remember running this for my mates when I was 14 or so and it was brand new - it felt so hip and fresh back then!

Went to update your treasure chest with the items from the drow and the boogins, found it done already. Thanks to whoever did that! I just added the orc and boogins' greatswords and hide armour, which are of course saleable.

So in another game I play the DM just posted this link, which discusses how the Great Weapon fighting style doesn't allow rerolled 1s and 2s for things like paladin's smite... I said before that it could. Let me know what you all think about this, if you have an opinion.

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

I think early levels it’s not bad and will probably never be a problem for us but at higher levels when the Paladin has many more spell slots and is able to use more and more dice for smite it can be a bit OP.

Beerg, how would you feel if we played the rule as intended? I honestly thought that the vague wording of the rule was deliberate to allow all damage dice to get the rerolls... But it wasn't.

OK, just back here guys, sorry im inundated at uni at the moment. I took GWFS based on being able to re roll on Smite. But, im always open to other views and if you feel its a bit OP then lets not. Im here for the story not the smashing. ;)

I've just tallied up the saleable loot at this stage (doesn't include the orcs' filthy hide armour - nobody wants that - nor the drow poison, as I assumed you may want to keep it and use it). We'll round up to 73 gp each at this stage. Not heaps, but keep in mind a gp is worth about $100, so that's roughly the equivalent of over 7K each.

So spend it up as you like. Post up here on the discussion what you want to buy - between the stores available at the Twisted Tower, and Nilelane out in the town, you can pretty much get whatever non-magical gear you like. Healing potions will be negotiated through roleplaying, at this stage by Nilelane at one of the temples. Same with scrolls or spells in the spellbook (although you have to catch Elminster first).

Oh, and amended the bolts on the loot page to note that they're poisoned. You may want those Jack :)

Speaking of which. Possibly a vial of Antitoxin would be a good purchase for Sorin as well as a healing potion. I have 5 gold additional funds to put into the money we have.

Antitoxin could be very useful.

If you scavenged gear from in the dungeon, Thurbal will buy it at 1/4 price as mentioned. Otherwise you can sell it for 1/2. Post up what you're selling/buying with prices/costs, and your new personal total (currently 73 gp). Assume Nilelane can get healing potions for 50 gp.

Would Thurbal consider that an insult if we sold the loot elsewhere?

Kraz will sell for half if possible.. The armor I mean. Means he has 107. Buying Scale and a heal pot for 100.. Leaves him with 7 gp, 8 sp..

Nilelane, the scavenged gear isn't worth anything normally. Thurbal's being nice.

GMHewy, given the change of mind on GWFS, can i change the skill to the +1 AC instead? initially looked promising even though i have already forgotten to use it. With it being physical only, coupled with my memory i feel i may barely make use of it at all. I'd rather a passive skill thats always in effect? It's a random skill i believe i'll struggle to remember at best as its post action.

or even potentially protection which could be handy for fights. If youd be happy for me to re pick?

Yes, given that the goalposts have shifted, and that you've only used it once I think(?), I'm okay with that.

Cheers GMHewy. Think I'll just go with +1 AC instead. That way its easy and no having to remember.

actually scratch that. I have just realised I have chain mail and not a chain shirt. Its my starting armour. make that a HP if possible :)

Also, 50 XP each for returning the missing guardsman's body and sword. Takes you to 520 each.

Sorry for the slight slow down folks, I've been really ill for nearly two weeks now, without life responding appropriately and slowing down for me. Still dealing with it, and ordering my thoughts to post properly hasn't been easy this week. But never fear, the weekend is here, so I'll get the ball rolling properly again, as of the next couple of hours.

Also, I'm looking forward to you all getting to level 3, so let's make that happen sooner rather than later :)

I like the sound of third level. Hope your feeling better.

Nilelane, are you able to move yourself on the map? (I finally got the right link up there.) Or did you want me to?

Sorry I'll get it, posted super fast last night before crashing hardcore

edit: actually its view only for me, just northwest of Kraz works

Really...? I feel like I've enabled editing on this slides document three or four times now - it's the one we used for the last battle too. Should work now, can someone please check and let me know?

Thanks, its working now for me.

Hey all, could I ask you you to do your best to keep your stat lines updated, particularly hp? I know it can be difficult to remember, I usually suck at it as a player, but it would make life easier for me, and probably for your teammates so they know where your health level's at. Cheers folks :)

Yeah, definitely looking forward to new cantrip at 4th level lol.

Nice!

So given how much this website sucks right now, I'm thinking of making a discord chat server for my campaigns. I know Beerg and Kraz are on discord, are the rest of you on it? Or prepared to start an account? It's just a free chat server for gamers, basically. Thoughts?

Willing to set something up, but I would be unable to chat during work.

Oh just to clarify, there is audio chat, but I had text chat in mind.

I've played many campaigns via text chat, its a great way to play a game. That was in my 20s though when I had essentially infinite free time. Willing to give it a shot but I think my time would still be limited to after work hours.

I was just thinking an alternate discussion page, if you like. A way to communicate when this site's being really painful, as it is now. It's maddening; I'm waiting up to five minutes to load pages at the moment. There'd be no expectation for anyone to use it with any particular frequency.

Correction, I do not have a discord but could probably get it if yall wanted to move that route.

Hey folks, here's a link to a discord chat server, where we can discuss whatever, whenever, but also where we can communicate in the event of another Paizo meltdown. Please join!

Well, that was seriously f@%+ed. Let's hope it doesn't crash again any time soon. In case it does, please hit the discord link above if you haven't already, as we may move elsewhere if Paizo goes pop again.

Whining aside, very happy to be back on the boards with you all again, folks!

I hope no one feels that I broke the rules there, or went easy on Jack... To be fair, he rolled so poorly, and got rolled against pretty well, but also there's no way I'm letting someone die from a double fail on a death save without letting them use their inspiration. If Jack had rolled two fails just now instead of two successes, it would have been bye bye Jack.

I'm not sure why I'm defending myself, but I guess I don't want you all to think that if you're about to die I'm going to somehow finagle it so you don't :)

Want to tell them what nearly did you in, Jack...?

I'm fine with inspiration being used on death saves. I'm probably pretty lose with death as well, I think Ive only had one death in pbp since last summer (level 1 dwarf fell off a 5 story tower...).
