Yep, down the Voonlar road. There's a map on the Campaign Info tab as well, I'll put up relevant maps as we go.

Updated history with Dalelands version. Party, feel free to know all as we've been traveling for some time, including how she keeps a false identity.

Spoiler:

Bright Past
★Descendent of one of the original architects who exploited Venom's twisting of the Vale into unique structural accomodations high in the forest canopies of Cormanthyr
★Classically trained in the arcane arts of the Teu'Tel'Quissir, and particularly developing a specialty in the history of Cormanthyr, and the story of Venom.

Recent Tragedy
★Daughter had rare terminal illness over the course of years
★Turned to the Zhentarim in desperation, renouncing Sehanine Moonbow, was bled slowly of her family fortune for a monthly cure
★Husband died pushing himself too hard to make money in rough jobs
★In the last few months of her daughter's life, she did not have the money to pay and went into a very high debt
★The Zhentarim used her as a source of free, expendable labor. At one point, she was ordered to capture Sorin during a chance encounter on the roads. Unable to proceed, Nilelane turned on the Zhents and defeated them with Sorin's help.
★Fled into the Dalelands under a false identity

Looks good, all sorted!

Hi folks, my posting will be infrequent for the next 24 hours or so. Feel free to chat amongst yourselves :)

Hi guys, apologies again for the lack of posts, I've been on a hectic two-day work trip, I'm just home, it's 1.55 am, and I have work in the morning. I'll be back in the swing of things tomorrow, so don't fret!

Also, 30 XP each for great roleplaying so far. I'll put an XP tracker up on the campaign info page tomorrow too.

Taking or leaving detect magic and/or identify was a big consideration for me. Eating my choice now...

Yep, it always feels like a waste... until you need it!

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

Oh neither one is EVER a waste. Especially for a wizard who can cast them as rituals.

It’s cool though. Nile is not very typical and an illusionist so no expectations here.

So, how do you want to do battle maps? I'm on Roll20 with the other group, which is working well, but unless you're a paid up member you can't access it on your phone. For those who have never used it, it's a pretty easy process for you guys: I send an invite, you accept and make a free account, I post a link to the current map in the page header, you can access and move your own token around as you like. As I said, just means you can't look at the map on your phone unless you pay $5/month.

Otherwise, I can just post up a picture of a map with current positions on it. A bit clunkier, and takes more ongoing work from me (can't update it from my phone), but requires nothing from you guys.

Let me know what your thoughts are on battlemaps. My preference is Roll20, but happy to work with what you guys would prefer.

By the way, as far as wealth goes, I've found that it works well to assume that 1 gp is worth about $100 (so 1 sp is ten bucks, 1 cp a dollar). The economy is a little skewed in D&D, so we get rooms at the Old Skull for $20, but you've also paid $20 each for dinner and breakfast.

Anyhow, it really helped me consider wealth differently when I was told that comparison. So Thurbal is offering $1K each to scout out the tunnels.

M NG Pal ★ Inspir ★Spells 2/3 ★Str16 Dex10 Con15 Int10 Wis10 Cha14 ★ 25/35 hp ★ 17/19 AC ★ INIT +0

I'm good with battle maps. how much is it to be a paid member?

$5/month. But I can move you when you don't have access if you like. Don't feel you need to subscribe. We'd look to have one round of combat a day, so that would give everyone a chance to get home and access the map on their computer.

HP 16/39 | AC 15 | Init +2 | Passive Perc: 13
Usable:
Rage 2/3, Short Rest HD 3/3(1d12+2)

I can not access to Roll20 at work, which is where I do 90% of my posting. I normally use Google Docs cause it's free. If Roll20 is used someone will just have to move my character for etc.

how does it differentiate between pc and mobile? can you use a non mobile browser like opera etc or can you just request desktop site?

Not sure Beerg...

We can use google docs, although I had a bit of a play around a little while ago and it seemed a bit fiddly. I'll see if I can get any better at setting it up!

I prefer google Slides with maps on uneditable master and players move tokens on front page, but I'm fine using roll20. Only thing I humbly request is to disable sounds for work sneakiness.

Whatever is easiest for you Hewy...I have used all types and all have their good and bad points. I have a DM membership on Roll20

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

I’m fine with either option.

Pinched for time a bit, will get a juicier post written up tomorrow.

No sweat:)

I'm loving this task: recon some abandoned tunnels for a few days. I'm hoping this is one of the poke around a bit and return to tavern types, but if we get trapped inside instantly that's cool too. ;)

Oh, a tiny retcon... Thurbal mentioned not to bother mapping the chasm, as they have maps of the areas on this side of the locked door. Doesn't mean you shouldn't, just that you don't have to :)

So you all have a potion of healing , which will cure 2d4+2 hp. Do people have rations? If you want to spend any serious amount of time in there you'll need some.

Also, want to float the idea of a house rule with you all. For long rests, rather than instantly healing back to full hp, I'm thinking you get to roll your max hit dice plus Con bonus. So usually more than half of your hp, but almost never all the way to full. Would you guys be okay with that? Not as harsh as PF rules, but you still probably carry some minor injuries after a long rest.

Saves:
★ Wis +2 ★ Cha +4
Attacks:
★Maul: Melee +5 (2d6 + 3 bludgeoning) ★War Hammer: Melee +5 (1D8 + 3 bludgeoning) ★Halberd: Melee +5 (1d10 + 3 slashing), reach ★Spear: Melee +5 (1d8+3 piercing), ranged +5 (1d6+3 piercing, 20/60 ft)
M NG Pal ★ Inspir ★Spells 2/3 ★Str16 Dex10 Con15 Int10 Wis10 Cha14 ★ 25/35 hp ★ 17/19 AC ★ INIT +0

House rules sound good to me. Can we make the assumption that collectively between us we would have identified the need for rations and supplies and make that a given? That way we don't get caught down in semantics? basics only, food, water and bedding. Anything would need to be stated. Thoughts?

Check your equipment, most of the packs include some rations I think.

I'm fine with trying the house rule for long rest HP.

Male, N Human, Rogue 3 | HPs 18/21 | AC: 15 | Init: +3 | PP 15 Saves S:+0, D:+5, C:+0, I:+4, W:+1, C:+2

House rules make sense to me...I like it!

Female, NG Half Elf, Monk 1/Cleric 1 | HPs 20/23 | AC: 15/17 (shield of faith) | Init: +3 | PP 14 | S:+2, D:+5, C:+1, I:+1, W:+2, C:+1 | War 0/2 | Channel 0/0 | Kai 0/2 | Insp: Yes | Spell Slots: 1st - 1/2

Sure. Adding a level of realism never hurts.

Sweet, we'll go with the house rule then. Shouldn't up the difficulty too much, but will make saving Beerg's lay on hands till rest time a thing. And if you're not too wounded, you'll probably heal fully.

Also, got a map prepped for the next combat encounter, so that will help :)

Apologize for this weekend, I had to roll to nights and then back to days today.. I now have to drive several hours to get home.. I will be able to post later and should be good moving forwards..

Tl;dr I hope no one's PC dies, but it could happen!

So just want to remind everybody that this is a 2e adventure, and while I've changed the stupidly lethal parts and altered bits where straight conversion would make enemies way overpowered, it could still be deadly to PCs. I don't fancy myself a PC-killer, having only nabbed a couple of PC scalps in over 20 years DMing, but it could well happen. If it does, I'll of course extend the invitation to roll up another sucker and get back in the game asap.

This statement, of course, has nothing whatsoever to do with Jack chilling out under a massive stone block that is barely defying gravity.

That is part of the draw of doing a 2e adventure so I am fine with it. As long as it isn't wtf crazy like:

Quote:
...the creature must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or become poisoned for 5,000 years. While poisoned in this way, a creature is also unconscious...

Male, N Human, Rogue 3 | HPs 18/21 | AC: 15 | Init: +3 | PP 15 Saves S:+0, D:+5, C:+0, I:+4, W:+1, C:+2

HAHA...I remember that one!! Ok, was dumb of Jack to pull the handle, I know, but he is a bit of a daredevil and risk taker!!! I really do hope he does not die...

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

Question is, would it have dropped while tying a rope to it first?

If it’s going to be this deadly maybe we walk out now. Lol. We already scored a nice Shortsword. hah!

Do players actually need to map as we go? If so, I can make a little shared slide for it.

Yes folks, I'm sorry, the solution was to push the door firmly... 2e ftw.

lol, reminds me of Gary Larson

Ha I actually received that cartoon one more than one birthday card as a youngster :)

So I won't normally rush things along like that, but in the interest of keeping things moving I thought I'd just jump on Beerg's idea to try to force the door.

Female, NG Half Elf, Monk 1/Cleric 1 | HPs 20/23 | AC: 15/17 (shield of faith) | Init: +3 | PP 14 | S:+2, D:+5, C:+1, I:+1, W:+2, C:+1 | War 0/2 | Channel 0/0 | Kai 0/2 | Insp: Yes | Spell Slots: 1st - 1/2

Worked out great.

Saves:

M NG Pal ★ Inspir ★Spells 2/3 ★Str16 Dex10 Con15 Int10 Wis10 Cha14 ★ 25/35 hp ★ 17/19 AC ★ INIT +0

Worked out perfect. Luckily. FYI, if I ever throw up something stupid, I’ll always leave a decent amount of time for others to say hold up before I move ahead with is. Unless gmhewy just takes me up on every impulsive action....

If it was going to kill everyone I wouldn't have charged on, but I was getting a bit bored with the door. You guys did plenty of head-scratching :)

Hey Jack, can I get a math check on your Perception? You have +5 on your profile, but I'm seeing +3 from your stats. Am I missing something?

Guessing its +1 wisdom +2 proficiency +2 expertise = +5

Ah yeah, expertise, sorry, forgot about that. Can you pop that on your character sheet please Jack?

AvernusArt 2Grid

If you want, you can use this:

Dales Map

Trick is just to do DM edits from Slide>Edit Master and have tokens back in the non edit mode. Same sort of setup I use. Not sure what the monsters are but you can just google images and copy>paste>crop>border color. Pretty fast.

ooooh , thats looks cool.

Thanks, Nilelane...that is exactly what it was!! lol
Back from business trip now....dumbest air travel ever!!! Next time I am just going to drive!

I have a bunch of updates to make to the character sheet, so I will try to get them done this weekend

Great Nilelane, I'll link that on the gameplay posts as well, thanks! I'll do that from now on. Beasts on the slide :)

Oops forgot border though. Next time. So the blue one has the greatsword.

GM, are you planning on awarding inspiration?
