Vrog Skyreaver |
guess I'll bot Ragar for now
Ragar's disguise roll: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Ragar's 2nd initiative roll: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Rager activates Animal Focus (owl) to grant himself a bonus to stealth checks then moves into position as he was unsure of exactly when the attack was happening.
stealth roll for Ragar: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
now to describe what happens:
The ambush is begun with the speaking of words of Auronis' divine might from the lips of Drax, followed by him clearly saying the word "Drop" in sylvan. While Tired due to his long hours of work without sleep, the flagbearer still has the presence of mind to resist the divine command. this causes Drax's invisibility to break, revealing him to be a half-orc/half dwarf.
Seeing that the subtle methods were ineffective, First Urgosh, and then Grieth break their invisiblity as well, bringing attacks against the standard bearer in a manner that will hurt and incapacitate, instead of kill. While Urgosh's attack will strike home, Grieth's clangs ineffectively off of the armor that he is wearing.
Knowing that he can't compete in physical combat, Gidgey follows through with the backup plan: he casts a spell, and slick grease covers the spear to which the flag is attached. With a shocked look on his face, the flag bearer watches as the flag clatters to the ground.
Starting the first actual combat round:
ME
Drax
Urgosh
Greith
Gidgey
With that being said, we currently sit at the following:
Ragar: Invisible with Animal Focus up for the next minute; Flagbearer: -11 non-lethal. I'll get my actions posted, and then you guys can post yours and i'll array it in initiative order.
Drax Adaaryn |
Drax casts obscuring mist then moves diagonally away from the combat 10 feet.
Vrog Skyreaver |
going to the actual combat round:
As a move action, the standard bearer will try to pick up the flag.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
which he does, then he tries to stab Urgosh with it.
Attack roll with power attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
damage roll: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
He then yells "Intruders! Intruders! They're after the flag!"
Your move =)
Greith |
Crap!!! Well, no plan survives contact with the enemy, eh?
Still flanking, Greith attacks again with his sap, hoping to move away as soon as Urgosh downs the Standard Bearer.
Sap + Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 181d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (3) = 8
Drax Adaaryn |
Don't forget the Attacks of opportunity each of you get for him picking up the flag.
Greith |
Oh yeah! good call! Would I get sneak attack on an AoO?
As the minotaur reaches down for the flag, Greith swings the sap at his head.
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 = 261d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Drax Adaaryn |
It is my understanding that you do apply sneak attack damage as long as you are flanking or they are flat-footed. PS I think you mean Minotaur.
Greith |
Damn! How did I read that as a centaur? Okay, edited. Here's my sneak attack damage for that attack. And thanks, all-powerful Skyreaver! I'll pay more attention.
Sneak Attack Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Urgosh The Minotaur |
(using Determination: Defense (immediate action to grant me a +4 insight to AC) The attack Misses Urgosh
Aoo: 1d20 + 8 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 1 - 4 = 211d10 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Judgment: Justice (swift)
Round 1
Knowing that the minotaur has being hit twice by the flat of his blade urgosh doesn't take any chances and attacks normally
PA Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 191d10 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Kurat |
I was travelling for 1 day and you guys managed to put 40 posts!?!! My, my, this is amazing. Anyway, here's the roll GM requested. I beleve that (unfortunately) INT check would be appropriate here, and not a WIS check (my INT modifier is -2, while WIS is +2) so I'm gonna roll it as INT. IF GM feels it could be the other one, please note the appropriate modifier.
Kurat enters the large pavilion tent as planned, and starts playing his assigned role. He looks around, trying to find the most "appropriate" group for causing trouble, but seeing so many martial types with no action stuck in one place, it really is not that hard. He decides that a group of orcs in the corner would be more than adequate. Orcs were very inebriated already, and they were known for their bad tempers.
Well, this should be easy. Hope they don't go for knives...let's see, have enough time passed?
INT check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3
"Hey you, you ugly bastard! Yes you. Don't think I did not hear you talk smack of me. Dirty little freaks like you should know that if they talk smack, they'll be smacked right back!"
Unarmed attack roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 POW!
Vrog Skyreaver |
For a moment, silence reigned in the beer tent, as the reverberations of Kurat's rebuff could be heard outside. Then a roar went up, and a massive brawl began to take place. The staff brought out cudgels to begin dealing with the crowd, but were severely outnumbered by the overworked, tired, and bored soldiers of the army of the faithful.
Distraction Achieved! =D
Vrog Skyreaver |
Ragar will become visible as he swings at the flag bearer.
Attack Roll with Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
obscuring mist: 1d100 ⇒ 20
The spear that the standard is affixed to is still covered in grease, but the flag bearer manages to keep a hold of it and even get in an attack on Urgosh, but Urgosh calls upon the power of his deity to grant him bullet time, which allows him to dodge the blow; Urgosh and Grieth both make him pay for being distracted while picking up the standard. Drax also calls upon the power of Auronis, but his spell allows him to cover the battlefield in mist, which helps to cover the theft. Both Urgosh and Greith swing their weapons at their target, but both their attacks clang off his armor. Gidgey begins trying to throw off suspicion, but it seems less then effective. Finally, Ragar becomes visible in the mist, but the transition between invisibility and visible, and the mist obscure his opponent and prevent him from striking a sound blow.
Starting round 2:
ME
Drax
Urgosh
Greith
Gidgey
Ragar
We currently sit at the following:
Battlefield Effects: Obscuring Mist 40 rounds
Ragar: Animal focus for 9 more rounds; Flagbearer: -33 non-lethal. Ironically enough, both Urgosh and Greith hit with their AoOs, but missed with their attacks on their own turns. I'll get my actions posted in a minute here, and then let you post yours.
Vrog Skyreaver |
His tired brain reacting with training, he attempts to stab out at Grieth, as his previous attack again Urgosh was unsuccessful; the slippery grease, however, forces him to drop his spear again.
Reflex Save for Grease: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
go ahead and post your next round of actions, and I'll get the map updated.
Urgosh The Minotaur |
Round 2
Judgment: Justice (swift)
PA Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 221d10 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
DM you mean that he drops the flag as this is was was greased
After hitting the minotaure Urgosh will move back 20 drawing an Aoo for the Minotaur as he move past Gidget he nods to him to take the Flag
Greith |
Round 2
Flanking Sap Sneak Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 111d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (1) = 4
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 86
Grieth will step back 5 feet and wait to hear if the body of the minotaur falls. Hiding in the mist.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Drax Adaaryn |
I am going to assume someone yells run after grabbing the flag
Drax sticks to the plan and tears off his disguise. (I also assume the magic sleeves were not available in town.) shoving it into his backpack before shifting to hybrid for and heading off to joint the brawl.
Greith |
Greith tears his outfit away and bundles it up, heading for the rendezvous point under stealth.
He is wearing regular leather armor now instead of his standard mithral chain shirt and has only regular daggers on his belt.
Taking 10 on stealth at full speed will give him a 14.
Urgosh The Minotaur |
Urgosh will wait a few seconds to make sure everyone escaped the fight and that Gidgey has the flag. He will then bring his team (removing his magical disguise) back to the bar fight while Gidgey (along with Urgosh Bastard sword) drops the flag in the captain's tent.
Vrog Skyreaver |
As the has raged on, you can see that people from outside the beer tent have started piling in and adding to the fun, eventually forcing it to spill out into the street as Hundreds of soldiers are joining in the "fun". You can see roving bands of what appear to be dwarven clerics running around healing unconscious fighters then sending them back into the fray.
As the "snatch" team makes it's way back to the beer hall, they see a bunch of people running in that general direction. Picking up the pace themselves, the closer you get to the beer hall, the more noise and signs of combat you can see. Several tents are in the process of burning, and a rolling melee of the grandest variety is slowing spreading out from the shattered remains of the beer tent. Bodies lie everywhere, but thankfully they seem to be breathing for the most part.
Joining in yourselves (as you want to look like you've been in a fight), your group holds it's own until the sound of thunder echoes across the battlefield, louder then even the massive melee arrayed before you. Then the lightning starts striking from the sky, Hitting people who are still fighting. Looking up, you see a Halfling floating in the sky, silhouetted against the building storm clouds. "ENOUGH!" he bellows out, loud enough to be heard clearly throughout the entire camp. Continuing to speak loud enough to be heard, but no longer shouting, he says "In the name of...well, me, clean this mess up now!"
Aaaannnd that's the Skyreaver
Drax Adaaryn |
Drax will join one of the groups healing the injured until his spells and channels are expended then head back to camp to debrief.
Kurat |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Bloody and swollen, but still not beaten, Kurat breaths out heavily. He shakes his head lightly, trying to clear the vision and understand is there one or three half-minotaurs in front that he was trying to hit. His legs were shaky, and his hands felt heavy, very heavy. However, despite all that, he felt some strange exhilaration somewhere at the bottom of his chest. He was, hell they obviously all were too tense, this waiting and not doing anything with so many martial types in one place. This was a good idea...
And just as Kurat was about to take one more sluggish swing, Skyreaver decided to intervene. That is Skyreaver?! - were Kurat's last thoughts before the blackness took him over. Sudden appearance of a flying halfling which was calling lightnings distracted Kurat enough to let down his guard, and the minotaur in front of him used this opening to land a devastating punch, knocking hobgoblin into unconsciousness.
Vrog Skyreaver |
nicely written Kurat.
With a start, it dawns on you who that is: Kathandrax, High Priest of Auronis.
Vrog Skyreaver |
Several hours later, the damage has been more or less cleaned up, tents have been repaired, and all of you notice that the mood in camp has shifted. Currently the army is in high spirits, with members of the different tribes giving each other good natured teasing about the brawl. until I say otherwise, the DC to perform the aid other action is 8, as long as the person you're aiding is a member of the army of the faithful.
Gathering you all in his tent, Captain Dub-Bane pulls out a scroll and casts a spell from it, which has a no noticeable effects other then your ears popping like they would from high altitude. "So, someone walk me through what the hell just happened."
Kurat |
Glancing left and right and seeing that no one is willing to speak first, Kurat clears his throat and begins: "Well, sir...after receiving the mission from you we proceeded to gather information about the target in our own various ways, including but not limited to staking out the target throughout first night. After that, a plan was agreed on - I know the least of it, because my role was to provide distraction and a cover story for all of us. From what I have learned of others, we have been successful in our mission - I have provided a necessary diversion and a cover for our group..." - Although maybe a bit too much of a diversion...; with a light smirk on his face, hobgoblin continues - "...while the others did their part. I am certain that Urgosh or someone else may fill you in on the details on their actions. I was not aware of those so I could not jeopardize the mission execution."
Grinning mischievously, he quickly adds: "Though, I would have to admit that I may have overdid it a bit with size of diversion. I...I was not aware that it might go that far..."
Urgosh The Minotaur |
waiting for Kurat to finish Well during the first day we each went information gathering, depending on skill and knowledge while a surveillance of the Captain's tent was organized. We rapidly confirmed that the flag was not inside the tent and that it was guarded from the inside by a big dino looking dog. We meet in the afternoon to exchange information. Surveillance lasted through the night after we saw the Minotaur company coming back from their training. Our surveillance team carried on through the night and proceeded to continue during the day in order to have a better grasp of their routine and habits. We all came back and a plan was formulated. It involved a diversion and creating an alibi for the stealth attack team. At the appointed time the stealth team left kurat who initiated the diversion. The lone Minotaur standard bearer who stood alone nearby the commanding tent was knocked unconscious, no one was seen or identified, the flag retrieved then dropped off and we all came back to join Kurat in the bar fight.
Drax Adaaryn |
While we ended up a stealth attack team that was really plan "c". We tried two less violent options first to enchant the flag away from the banner man but neither proved effective. I lost sight of the conflict after blanketing the area in mist to cover the escape a few seconds before we had actually got control of the flag.
Drax shifts back and forth a bit on his toes for a few moments before continuing
I think the greatest risk we have of discovery is if an investigator realizes we were asking questions the day before. If there is a serious inquiry they might be able to put some things together and figure out it was this squad asking the questions and this squad who picked a fight. Hopefully a few bruises on a banner man won't end in so thorough a search though. And without a wittiness of the assault it would be hard to prove we were there. Even if there was one the disguises and mist should make it hard to ID us.
Gidgey |
Gidgey was staring into the distance, not focusing on what was going on. Then he heard Drax talking about the possibility of them getting caught and he jerked up. When Drax finished speaking, Gidgey piped in.
"Sir, if Captain Hardbrow caught us, would he have had done to us what he did to his flagbearer? I'm not exactly sure what he did, but he looked pretty dead to me. Was this risk really worth it just for the flag?" Gidgey starts fidgeting a lot, he is rather anxious.
Vrog Skyreaver |
Greel sighs and says "Most likely, if not worse. That's part of the reason that I wanted you to get me his standard; We need to knock him down a peg." He pauses for a moment, as if collecting his thoughts, before continuing, "Overall, well done guys. Not how I would have done it, but not too shabby. The army is going to be moving out in a few days, but I want you to wait here, and watch this." Saying that, he pulls the tarp off of something that looks like a table, about 5' long by 3' wide, and hip height on a human, the surface of which appears to be a single pane of glass.
Cutting his finger and pushing it onto the glass, an overhead "map" of the area appears in the glass. It's currently centered on something of a grey spot, but the Captain concentrates for a moment and the the picture zooms into the tent. As the captain begins to speak, you can clearly hear what he is saying, echoed slightly. "I'll be back shortly. No matter what you see, do nothing. Understand?" Turning to Meera, he says "Sargeant, give them their rank pins and then go get their stuff. Once I get back, I want us ready to move out within the hour." With that, he strides out into the morning sun.
Gidgey |
Gidgey stares at the glass for a second, trying to figure it out what it is.
knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 I'll take 20 if I have that much time to analyze the glass
Gidgey then turned to Urgosh
"Well..um...he started casting a spell and then touched the flag bearer..well former bearer. After that his life force was just ripped out of him" Gidgey turned back to the glass.
Vrog Skyreaver |
"Shhhh" says Meera, "He's almost there."
Turning your attention back to the scrying device, you see Captain Greel approach the tent of the Skyreaver. The leader of the three guards, who is wearing a pin that looks quite like Meera's, stops Greel and says quietly "Sir, I wouldn't go in there. Lord Skyreaver is not in a good mood." "That's okay, sergeant, just announce me please." Sticking his head into the tent, the sergeant returns shortly, saying "The Immortal Skyreaver will see you now."
As the captain enters the tent, you get your first look at how the leader of the convocation lives. the answer is: quite Spartan. You see several weapon and armor racks to the right of the entrance that hold armor for small, medium, and large sized creatures. The back part of the tent is taken up by a massive sand table that shows the terrain around Aeon, including expected troop movements and other battle information. The scouts of the army, it would seem, are very good.
As the captain approaches The Skyreaver, you see that your initial impression of him is that he's.....young. In this form, he appears to be a Halfling in his late teens or early twenties. Standing as the captain enters, The Skyreaver moves to him and embraces him. "Welcome, brother, the convocation eagerly awaits your news. How goes the leviathan project? Is it on schedule?" "Leviathan is on schedule sir. It should be ready for phase two of the deployment, but that's not what I'm here to talk to you about." "Oh, was there something else?" "Yes sir, I need to talk to you about a very serious subject. Treason. It would seem that we are undone by one of our brothers." Greel pauses for a moment, his body language speaking of one who knows that his next words will seriously hurt someone. "It seems that good captain Hardbrow has conspired with the enemy." "Again with this Greel? Do you have any proof this time?" "I do sir. I found his flag amongst the belongings of a human spy that my newly formed unit uncovered within the camp. With the flag was a letter from the captain saying that he was delivering the flag as proof of his support. It has his signature, and is marked with his ring." With this, Meera chuckles knowingly. "Let me see this proof, Captain." pulling the pack off his back, Greel says "It's all in there, brother. I won't lie and say it surprises me, however. I've warned you about him for a while now: he's far too brutal to be a captain. He lacks....subtlety." Raising a hand, The Skyreaver says "Enough. We'll hear what he has to say on the subject."
Speaking loud enough that he can even be heard where you are, but not so loud that the sound coming from the device hurts your ears, The Skyreaver says "Bring me captain Hardbrow! The Skyreaver has spoken!" Turning back to Greel, he says "Now we shall wait to see what he says for himself."
