That's good enough, I suppose.
You know that he is wearing training plate. Weighing in at over 100 lbs., it is commonly used by the hardier races to get their youth ready to wear heavy armor. It's not uncommon for dwarves to make their recruits sleep in it for days at a time. It appears that his has been slightly modified by removing everything but the chestguard, and that the Chestguard has been made exceptionally thick (8-10" or so).
Kurat |
Before some of the companions leave, Kurat shares with them what is easily observable on the guard in regards to his armor: "This is wearing a so called training plate. It weighs around 100 lbs. and it's commonly used by the hardier races to get their youth ready to wear heavy armor. It's not uncommon for dwarves to make their recruits sleep in it for days at a time. This one seems to be slightly modified by removing everything but the chestguard, while the chestguard has been made exceptionally thick (8-10" or so)."
Gidgey |
"I'm gonna find a gonna find a good place to set up for the night." Gidgey steps between everyone, trying to be unnoticed by passerbys then goes invisible.
Using invisibility spell
Gidgey looks for a crate, bush or something else to hide in where he can still see the minotaur with the flag.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 (+20 for 4 minutes while invisible)
Greith |
"As will Greith. He will keep a vigilant watch."
Greith looks for any large amount of supplies around that seem to be not-important enough to be needed any time soon and starts rummaging through it. After a while he reaches down far enough to no longer be seen and finds a good hiding spot.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Bad break, Gidgey. Sorry about that roll.
Vrog Skyreaver |
As the night progresses, the young minotaur stands to, pulling guard. once or twice he nearly falls asleep, but quickly catches himself and then begins pacing back and fourth in front of the tent, muttering quietly to himself. When the morning dawns, he has stood vigil the entire evening.
That's what will happen should you choose not to interrupt his guard duty.
Gidgey |
This is only if Gidgey saw Greith going into his hiding spot
Using Message spell
Gidgey points his finger at the pile of supplies and starts whispering.
"Hey Greth, its Gidgey. This guy seems pretty tired, I could probably trick him and lure him away from his post. Would be a perfect opportunity to jump him. Whisper back your reply"
Vrog Skyreaver |
Evening service is done by one of the bishops, a bugbear by the name of Erde. In almost complete contrast to the fiery, passionate sermons of Kathandrax, Erde low-key, calming, and funny? He tells quite a few jokes, and people seem to enjoy listening to him speak.
You lose the previous bonus to aid other actions, and get a +1 bonus to mind effecting effects.
Drax Adaaryn |
I think the change of my Divine bonus from social to saving throws is an omen that it is time to act! I want in on Gidgey's plans :)
After return from vespers without more information Drax is itching to act. He checks in with the others to find out when he is due for a watch before settling in to get some sleep.
Wake me if anyone gets a good idea. In the morning I will pray for some new spells that will help hide our actions tomorrow if nothing can be done tonight.
Greith |
I actually have a few extra minutes right now, so I can post today!
"This is a plan Greith likes. Remember though, it must not be known what happened. We cannot be seen, and perhaps he should not be seriously harmed."
Greith looks around to see if he can find some saps anywhere in the equipment or supplies he's near.
Vrog Skyreaver |
Uncertain of when to strike, and ultimately deciding that you want more information before making your move, you continue to observe the flag bearer. Exhausted as he is, he stands his vigil though the night. In the pre-dawn hours, someone brings him some food, and as he's eating a minotaur wearing a variety of fetishes and robes comes over to him and casts a spell on him, which takes longer than most combat magics. After the spellcasting minotaur finishes his work, the standard bearer seems revitalized.
at about an hour after dawn, Captain Hardbrow emerges from his tent and his troops form up. Marching out, the flag bearer falls in behind them.
what would you like to do now?
Gidgey |
Gidgey sees the troops preparing to leave and whispers Greith another message.
Using Message Spell
"I'm gonna go follow them and see where they are headed. Once they stop moving I'll report to the others where they went. Want to come with?"
Using Invisibility Spell
Gidgey goes invisible again and starts stalking after the flag bearer.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31 +20 while invisible
Vrog Skyreaver |
Since at least one of you is following, you will be able to witness the following:
As the minotaurs march through the camp, several people wearing adamantine cloak pins come and speak with Captain Hardbrow. As the captain is talking to them, he makes his troops march in place. Eventually, they make their way to a large field to the southwest of the Worgen area. lining them up single file, he has them turn 90 degrees and then begin running. After about 15 minutes of this, it becomes apparent that they are practicing running in formation, staying together and each man covering the man to the right, except the man on the far left side, who appears to be left handed.
At the end of the first hour, they pause to drink water then begin doing squad drills. They break down into 6 5 man squads and practice drills which include "get the caster" (apparently this is a drill designed to get around a defensive wall to attack the protected caster on the other side) and "scatter" (they practice reacting to battle magic like fireballs by reacting and spreading out so that no more than one or two can have a fireball or other area effect spell hit them).
After lunch, they work on upper body strength, lifting and carrying a fully loaded wagon around the field as a squad. This goes on for about 5 hours, before they form back up and march back into the camp.
Drax Adaaryn |
Drax prays in the morning and prepares these spells:Command, Obscuring Mist, (empty Slot).
Command has the drop option which should be a good one. Maybe someone invisible can be ready to pick up the flag. Obscuring mist should help us hide after the theft.
Urgosh The Minotaur |
After hearing the report Urgosh think and after making the plan tell everyone :
Just before dawn when the flagbearer is really tired Gadget here will go invisible and stand right behind him. Drak will order him to drop the flag. Gadget will grab it and make it back toward our ranks invisible. Should the minotaur resist the command, Drak will go with obscuring mist, Greith, Ragar and myself will Knock him out. Gadget will have rendered us also invisible and we will go with him. Remember to be masked and non descriptive armor and clothes
Drax Adaaryn |
Sounds like I reasonable plan. I will work on a disguise.
I am not sure what kind of market place exists near the camp. Assuming there is one Drax heads there to find a cloak and mask that will fit his Dwarf-Orc form.
Kurat |
Kurat feels a bit disappointed that he is not needed for this mission, but understands that this will require a lot of secrecy and stealth, something he is not very used to.
"OK. I'll be around, somewhere nearby, in case something goes very wrong. Just remember that invisible does not mean impossible to notice. He will still be able to hear or smell you. Take care."
Urgosh The Minotaur |
I have a different task for you Kurat. About 1h before the operation start we will be in a bar all of us drinking loudly. 5 Minutes before the operation Each of us one by one will skip out of the nearby tavern. Once We have all Slipped out. I want you to start a Bar Fight 2 minutes after we have been gone. Be as loud and as rude as possible. We do our thing and we are all going to be back around the bar to "participate". I want all of us to be arrested and thrown in the brig for the night. Gadget will have dropped the flag in our capt tente and rejoin us in time to be arrested. All of this is to give us an alibi etc...
Vrog Skyreaver |
A well thought out plan. For those of you who are working on disguises, you have the option to either roll or take 10 on your disguise checks. Also, don't forget that you take a -4 penalty to disguise yourself as another race, and some of you might be harder to disguise than others.
Drax, there's not really a marketplace in camp, but you could try heading into Caravan to find something there.
Drax Adaaryn |
Disguise: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
I am not trying to look like something other than a Dwarf-Orc. I would like to find a set of Dwarf-Orc clothing that doesn't have any signs of shifting if possible. I will head to caravan if I can be there and back in time. I have move 40 in bear form.
Edit:Also woo hoo not taking 10 paid off :)
Urgosh The Minotaur |
thank you dm. As for the disguise those who can may try elaborate stuff for the others the idea is to conceil their identity. So common cloth, generic armor, etc.. Ninja look. Did you want us to do some rolls or rp during the bar scene or skip that and make your save vs command for the flagbearer?
Vrog Skyreaver |
you are certainly more than welcome do to a bar scene (and if that's what you guys want, I'll be happy to post something), but in the greater scheme of things it's exceptionally easy to start a barfight with a bunch of people who want to kick ass.
Since you're the first person who has gone into Caravan, you get the honors of getting the description =)
As you approach Caravan proper, your first impression is of a sea of color, which gives one pause when they realize the sheer scale of the settlement. The sea analogy is particularly apt, as when viewed from above, the tents looks like waves that are breaking on islands (only in this case the islands are actually the few permanent buildings in the city).
Standing more or less at the center of the city can only be the cathedral of Auronis. standing easily 2-3 times the size of any structure in Caravan, this massive edifice of worship is topped by a large sculpture of a perfect circle that appears to be made of gold, and is blinding in the midday sun.
Dragging your eyes away from the cathedral, you make your way into the city proper. While there is no town guard, you can see that everyone here is visibly armed in one fashion or another, and that people are giving those who do not carry a weapon a wide berth. Asking around, the exceptionally polite people give you easy to follow directions to the marketplace, which dominates the western half of the city.
you can easily find the clothes that you are looking for, as well as disguise kits (should you be interested in purchasing them as well).
Drax Adaaryn |
Drax has to keep pulling his eyes away from the cathedral but decides there isn't time to get the shopping done and attend any services. Instead he buys a disguise kit and a tear away travelers outfit sized for his dwarf-orc form from a rather shady looking dwarf slipping the lot into his backpack before heading back to camp. Once there he offers to share his disguise supplier with the team. If there is time he heads to services in camp to make up for missing the trip to the cathedral.
Drax plans to shift to Dwarf-Orc form and put his tear away outfit on over his regular cloths. He will cast command then obscuring mist before moving to the edge of the mist and removing his temporary outfit. After shoving the cloths into his handy haversack he will then shift to hybrid form and head to the bar to meet up the the ruckus. In his dwarf-Orc form he isn't much use in a fight so he will stick to this plan even if the command fails to both give cover to his friends fight and his own escape.
Drax Adaaryn |
Yeah those are so much better. I had been keeping some gold in reserve in case I needed to buy a horse but if they are availible I have the GP to pick them up instead.
Drax Adaaryn |
I agree. Unless something goes wrong and the attempted theft turns into a running chase through the bar fight. But first things first. Let's get the flag! :)
Vrog Skyreaver |
very well, we'll cut to:
An unseasonably cold evening has settled upon the camp, causing many to huddle around fires or make their way to the only drinking establishment in the camp. Called "Stagger" because many of the people leaving there are doing just that, this large pavilion-style tent normally has it's flaps rolled up to allow the breeze to clear out the smell, but with the cold all of the flaps are down and secured. As the bulk of your group heads out to enact your cunning plan, each of you dons your "disguises" and then makes your way back to the minotaur's tent, where once again you see he standard bearer pulling an all-nighter.
did you want to cast obscuring mist or command first? Also, Kurat, could you give me some sort of check to see if you can count how long it's been?
Urgosh The Minotaur |
Plan is: gadget turns everyone invisible. Surprise round Drak move cast command 10ft away from target (it succeeds), Gadget grabs the flag =W we run. Round 1 Everyone run away. End of round 1 minotaure acts no one is in sight. The end.
Minotaur makes the save. Surprise round becomes: Gadget Cast Grease on the flag (should it drop he will go pick it up)the melee group attack with sap. Round 1 Drak cast obscuring mist, Gadget waits from minotaure to fail the greased flag and picks it up , melee group keeps attacking for subdual damage. Minotaure Either drops the greased flag or fall KO by the subdual damage. We run.
Disguise: 1d20 - 3 - 4 + 10 ⇒ (18) - 3 - 4 + 10 = 21 Using his hat of disguise Urgosh will look like1/2 Elf (part orc). There is an intentional slip up in his ninja outfit that allows someone, that would pay attention,
Greith |
Disguise: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15(+20 with invisibilty)
Ready to make an attack when okay'ed by you, DM.
Gah! Nat 1 on stealth = NO GOOD!
Vrog Skyreaver |
okay, so our initiative looks like this:
ME
Urgosh
Greith
Gidgey
Drax
That's how everyone rolled initiative. I'm assuming that you are all delaying til Drax's action? If so, the initiative would look like this:
ME
Drax
Urgosh
Greith
Gidgey
Assuming this is the case, go ahead and post your actions, and we'll go from there. I like to keep a running total at the end of each combat round to let everyone know who's taken what damage. It helps you guys out, and that way I don't have to keep written notes on my side. It also helps to track duration of effects. With that being said, we currently sit at the following:
Urgosh - Invisible; Gidgey - Invisible; Greith - Invisible (drax is no longer invisible as he cast an offensive spell at the flag bearer).
Greith |
Surprise Round
I would be flanking him if possible when getting in position. Most likely flanking with Urgosh or Ragar.
Sap 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 (+2 if flanking applies)
Sap 1 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sneak Attack Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Wasn't sure how you'd want me to format that, Vrog. So I just did everything separate for now.
