Talas isn't necessarily wandering IN Varisia, but I certainly can be if that's where Garridan is just for ease of them meeting. So Garridan is an ethnic Varisian, or just someone who happens to live in Varisia?

He's actually a Varisian. I plan to keep some of the aspects from that background you saw... Grew up poor with a single mother on the outskirts of Sandpoint; she was a Harrower and fortune-teller and never made much money. Life was difficult on the frontier and Garridan had to learn to hunt small game animals, which is where he first learned how good he was at throwing. While he venerates Erastil, he also reserves a speciall place in his heart for Desna and a love of travel. I think I'm also going to give him the family Harrow Deck as well and a kapenia, of course!

I can easily have Garridan traveling outside of Varisia, pretty much anywhere really. Did you have a certain area that you envisioned Talas being before his transition to Arch?

Well, Talas is loosely looking for his elf father, so possibly around the borders of Kyonin? I'm just imagining that the main reason they start talking to each other is each recognizing each other as a Varisian-- yay, kapenia scarves!-- which won't necessarily mean that much if they currently ARE in Varisia, lol. "You have a scarf! Like half the people around us!" Whereas if they're in, idk, Tamran, it's more of a "oh, someone from home, hey buddy" type thing.

Not that we have to overthink this; pretty sure our starting point is only going to matter for just as long as it takes DH to take us away from it. ;)

So, if it works for you: in a city that's outside of Varisia?

Very good point, Talas! Tamran would be a great place to meet up. I like that plan!

No one from Aryth, huh? Under any other circumstances, I would wonder if anyone gets the reference. People you've recruited however, probably do.

That's where this alias got it's name, if you remember.

I do. :)

Garridan, Talas, please report to the Discussion thread. We're about to get things going.

This here is Treasurefox. Sorry for the delay

Just a straight no-archetype fighter? Haven't seen one of those in a long time. :)

Sheet looks good. Great job on the equipment tracking. Makes doing a WBL audit super easy.

That's correct GM. I like to play it old school =P

I'll be updating the personality, appearance, and backstory soon. Just kind of working on him on-the-fly for the moment.

I'm still half convinced that Aryth is where Arch ran from.

They ran to a place where weak willed Gods can be killed and erased from existence. Unlike Izrador... who even now hammers at the walls of his prison dreaming of the day he can return his influence to the rest of the planes.

Would you rule that taking a feat like Bleeding attack would allow me to do piercing/slashing damage?

It makes sense, your call.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Snake style would let you do piercing. Boar for slashing. Arch also has some specialized monk weapons that change an unarmed damage type. They'll be available to you once you graduate the academy.

Ok guess it'll be a while before I can take any of the styles since each of them has at least one skill with 3 ranks as a prereq. Will stick with Bleeding attack. Guess the bleed will simply be the result of things like elbow strikes and specific shots to the face that can bleed you despite being bludgeoning.

Everything other than background is up. Will be from Golarion, arcane studied obsessed with obscure knowledge who upon finding a secret tome on the metaphysical aspects of the philosophies of Irori, is focused on perfection of both physical and magical self. She sees magic simply as a how she affects her own body and the world around her through study and focus.

Looks great. Stand by. You and Dolgrin will be up in the next intro scene.

Quick background for the two of you- One of Dolgrin's parents and one of Ariela's grandparents was an adventurer. When Dolgrin's family sent him away from home, they sent him to Areila's family's monestary, which is at the edge of the five kings mountain range.

It turns out the Monestary, and both families, have ties to a legendary city in another realm

That works! It gives me a few more ideas for his backstory too.

Yeah I like it!

Swapped Elven for Dwarven as a starting language, figured growing up around Dolgrin it would make sense. Also figured with the way she fights, internal bleeding will definitely be a thing, that and a lot of facial shots.

DH, never did hear back from you on the Belt Pouch/Bandolier issue. Just wanted to clarify as I figure out carrying capacity, order of gear location, and costs. I'll have to meticulously track all my "ammo" during combats until I finally get Ricochet Toss at 7th level.

The plan right now is to have one bandolier dedicated to holding 8 daggers to use as a fall back if he runs out of his primary weapons. The other bandolier will like be dedicated to things like alchemist fire, alkali flasks (they're better than acid flasks!), holy water, and the like. I figure one belt pouch could hold 5 chakram (please advise if you think that's too much in one pouch), so that'll be two pouches dedicated to my chakram.

Lastly, how do you feel about reskinning one of my bandoliers into something like what this fellow is wearing? It'll be same mechanics, just visually different.

I'm fine with re-skinning descriptions.

Essentially, the mechanics for wrist sheaths and spring wrist sheathes can be applied to any "pouch". You can buy them as individual pouches, or as Bandoleers.

A person could, at the highest end, have 20ish sheathes for small items or weapons strapped about their body.

These are Arch specific items, so your character doesn't have access to them yet.

Thanks! And, that's good to know... I'll use the standard rules for Garridan for now then! Thanks for the reply, good sir.

As you can tell, I am quite excited to try out this character more! I have always wanted to play a throwing character, but there just wasn't enough support to really make an effective character. The Weapon Masters Handbook was a godsend to everyone who has ever wanted to play a thrower!

Are you familiar with the Blinkback belt?

Yeah, Blinkback belt used to be a requirement for Throwing builds, but now with Ricochet Toss out Blinkback belts are no longer a required item. Which is nice, because it opens up that slot for the standard stat enhancement items or Belt of Mighty Hurling (both versions).

Hmmmm, I did not realize how that the cost of the Blinkback Belt was so low. I think that will be something to pick up while I wait on getting up to 7th level. I was thinking that it was a lot more expensive.

That's what I was going to say. You could have that as early as fourth level under the right corcumstances.

I've done a little more work on Dolgrin, mainly with backstory and appearance. Right now it is in point form, but I expect it will develop into a few paragraphs. I changed his third language from Terran to Orc to fit his city's lore, I changed the bandolier to the regular rules, and I'm swapping the Adventure's Chronicle (K.Local) of Arch to an Adventurer's Chronicle (K.Geography) of the Inner Sea of Golarion.

Sounds good.

Dolgrin, Ariela, I should be kicking your intro off tonight.

Garridan, Talas, prepare to move to the Academy gameplay thread. We're going to kick off your not-a-flashback recruitment scene there and pick up the other players as they get through their flashbacks.

Sounds good! Looking forward to seeing the others' introductions! If they were even half as exciting as Talas and mine, then we are in for some good reading.

I'm excited to do this! I just hope I can live up to your legacy! ;)

Ready and raring to go!

Folks that are getting their characters together-

Those of you who are playing characters from Arch, your characters will be introduced at the academy. You have a little more time to get your stuff finished.

Other petitioners, you'll be picked up by Thedra and company after the ogre escape scene wraps up.

I want to make sure that every character has a "flashback intro" in the central planning gameplay thread. I also want to move the academy thread forward. So, your characters might end up being in two threads simultaneously.

Is like to have everyone's characters finalized by January.

does anyone have their character's backgrounds and personality completed enough to be introduced into the game?

Mechanics can come later.

I believe I am ready now.

Are we using background skills by chance?

Yes on background skills, but not yet. They will be introduced with Academy training.

It took me a bit to think of a story tie-in for your character. I think you'll like it.

The forest you're from. It's THE Forest. Of Dread.

Feel free to make any adjustments you like based on that. Once the Ogre Escape is done we'll do your introduction to Arch.

For now, please report to the Academy thread. Your introduction in gameplay is actually going to be before your flashback scene.

New potential recruit here, just dotting.

Quick introduction: Not new to Arch at all, played in a whole lot of iterations and run a few quick games myself. Some of the rules changes are new to me, so I might get tied up in those once or twice, but I'm pretty familiar with how this bit of madness works.

YOU ARE NOT PREPARED.

Ok, maybe you're a little prepared...

Alrighty, here we are. Background and most of the numbers are ready to go. Still need to fill in equipment and a few description things for my own amusement, but here's the basics. For the moment, DH, mostly just take a look at the background, see if it makes sense according to what we talked about earlier.

Looks great. Jump into Discussion when you are ready and dot the gameplay thread.
