Maybe that's what your sister does, and her abilities work without issue."

She stands up at this point, hair falling about, saying, "Let's try this, stand up. Try not to .. think, when I ask you to do something, just be as calm and unthinking as possible. Just do .. okay?

Once he appears ready, she holds up a book and says, "Now, remember, without thinking .. catch this. Remember, no thinking, just do it." With that, she tosses the book lightly at him.

Oh, snap...this is gonna hurt. >.<

Bradley scrambles up, looking alarmed.

"No, no, wait, this is a really bad idea, telling someone not to think about something is completely the wrong thing to...DOOOOOOOOOO!" he howled as the corner of the book hit him right in the 'tender bits'.

As he was hopping around, he somehow manage to trip over the book and fell over a desk which broke, trapping him in between the broken pieces.

"Owww."

A painting fell off the wall on top of him.

"I hate my life."

"We shall." she had resisted the impulse several times to pull away. It was all very real. Emotions. Twisted, unlogical emotions, were beginning to surface. She had to do her best to keep a tight reign on herself. "Don't sell yourself short, Inquisitor." Tyrrin intones as they move towards the skimmer, trying to keep the mood light. Lang's visit home:

spoilered for length:

At langs sudden appearance lang's mom nearly drops the ckae she was holding.

Lang? what....How... she sets everything down and goes to him and hugs him

Hi mom as he hugs her back.

come , sit, are you hungry? she goes to get some dinner from earlier and serves him a big heaping portion.

lang takes the food it is the biggest insult to not eat when your mother offers food as he eats he seems to savor every bite. it doesn't matter how goods the food at school is there is something always better when you get dinner at home with your family.

She sits and starts to tell lang all about what was going on back home but lang interupts.

Mom, i have something important to tell you,

Is it Sun?, did he give you fleas, I always warned him about that..

No Mom, Sun is fine and no fleas anyway I want to tell you....

ohh your hands they look burnt, Did Sun do this? she goes and gets some burn paste to cover the wounds.

no Mom it wasn't Sun, but it is a part of what I want to tell you about, so sit and listen i don't have much time.

Lang relates all that has occured at school telling her about Ignace, and eventually telling her about the spirit world and the nature spirit, and he eventually tells her about being the Avatar.

She practically falls off her chair at that news, she never realized that the stories were true and now her own son, all she could do was cry and hold him tight worrying like only a mother could.

Lang also tells her about Professor De'Nown and how he was the one that brought him home to visit.

at the mention of his name She she looks shocked, like she recognized the name.

Lang, back when I was a little girl a little younger than you are now, mr. De'Nown was here to learn about air bending. he was the first outsider allowed inside the temple walls. well you know how kids are, and we would ask him tons of questions about the rest of the world.

well anyway he would share stories of great adventures all over the place. we were all sad when he had to leave, and, well he chose me to to continue to share his stories.

She goes to find an old book gathering dust on a shelf

He gave me this book, I must have read it a hundred times, practically memorized every one. it was these stories that I told to you when you were very little. i don't know if these are just made up stories or if they are his real adventures. in any event, I am giving this book to you. take it and read them, and you can share these stories with your new friends at the school.

she opens the book towards the back and look at this, all these blank pages at the end. write your own stories and then share them with you family. this is my legacy I pass to you Lang.

Lang takes the book and bows to his mother but they just smile and hug each other instead.

only a few miutes later I'm sorry mom the magic going away I have to return. I love you

at that moment lang is teleported back to the office the last sight in his eyes his his mother's farwell kiss

"She's sleeping now. It was a pretty big incident. But the other child was okay. I only hope that this finally convinces her that she can't hurt anyone here. Not really. Maybe she'll finally relax a little and let herself be around other people. I hope so. It breaks my heart watching her isolate herself all the time. She was such an outgoing child before...."

Image

"I hope so too," he said, giving her a reassuring hug. "But we can't continue to let her ignore her abilities now. Not after this. She has to take lessons, learn to control it."

Image

"I know. She won't like it. And there's no chance she'll agree to learn from us. I was thinking that we might ask Fieri."

Ohh great she has only met lang twice and both times involved taking one of her daughters to the infirmary, great way to say hi to the family

Image

"That makes sense. And it would be easy enough for Fieri to do an independent study class with Ignace since she's working in the elementary school," he agreed.

"What about Chara? Was she very upset when you put her to bed?"

Image

"No, she seemed to be fine. I think she missed most of the drama involved with Ignace's blowup. Which is good. Chara didn't want to go to bed, of course, but that's normal."

"I really hope this new treatment works out. And soon."

"And what about Raelle? I got the notice earlier..."

Image

"Me too. And when I asked the healers they said that she was in isolation while Phaezeriel was working with her. And when I went back after classes she'd already left the infirmary and went to her room. I checked on her there, but she was already asleep."

Image

"Did they tell you why she was in the infirmary?"

Image

"Yeah. It seems that our daughter has developed psychic abilities. That was all the information I could get."

Lang is holding the book from his mother when he returns.

professor? what can you tell me about this

he shows him the book.

She said this used to be yours.

Image

She sighed. "That isn't going to make things any easier for her."

"Maybe one of us should go and speak with Phaezeriel and see if he can give us any more details."

She paused for a long time. "You know there's a good chance that your parents are going to disown her. They weren't so thrilled about a smoke mage, but this..."

he holds out his hand "may I see that?"

"The hell with them," he said harshly. "If they disown Raelle just for being herself, then I want nothing to do with them anymore. I've had enough of making excuses for them."

She hugged him. "Let's just wait and see then. We'll cross that bridge if we come to it."

"... you were thinking, weren't you?" Hands came up to cover her shocked expression, then lowered once it all ended.

She walks over and helps him out of the desk, making sure he's not severely injured. If necessary, Anahita assumes that it is non-lethal damage that occurred.

"I am .. so terribly sorry, Bradley. Please forgive me, it was not my intention to injure you." She does look fairly mortified, yet there's a bit of curiosity there as well.

"So, if you can .." said while helping him to sit or stand, as needed, giving him support as well, "please tell me .. were you thinking too much on the catching, or did you clear your mind as I asked? This is potentially important." Even though she was in part responsible for the injuries and resulting happenstance, she did not seem completely apathetic to his injuries.

Sitting or standing, she'll help him after this test.

the professor flicks through the book, occasionally chuckling or growing morose and then thinks for a few moments before answering...

"I wrote this book in my Comparitive youth," the professor says quietly, "I will leave it to you as to whether you choose to believe them true or not..."

the professor hands him back the book...

"it is getting late... Read some tomorrow after class.... but for now... it is time for your head to meet your pillow..."

His good nature and innate optimism were already starting to reassert themselves now that he was not actively being attacked by the furnishings.

"Then .. have you ever done meditation? Just sat down and .. relaxed, breathing deeply? Calming yourself and being without thought? I find that very refreshing when done. If your thinking does activate this- we merely need you to act without thought, something that I believe is possible. Perhaps then, your power - since it appears to be a power, might be maintained and not unleashed. What do you think of that? Care to try?"

She moves to sit down, motioning to him to do so as well, "Otherwise, the option might be to see if you have some innate mental ability, psionics, I believe it's called? To affect probability. Just imagine- er.. or don't, but suppose for a moment you could willingly affect the probability of something other than your own future. That would be magnificent."

So, needless to say.. Anahita would love to conduct some more tests with Bradley, trying to see if he can focus on the 'feeling' or event, whether to do so without thought or with thought, and describe it, etc.

She'll take some time to do this too.

lang flies to his new favorite thinking spot. the tall tower roof.

there He sits. looking at the coat from Ignace.

I hope I didn't ruin everything.

lang starts to quietly think out loud.

I told Mom everything about you, Ignace, I think she will like you and you will like her. I just hope you will be able to fly with me sometime.

Lang stays quiet for a bit longer.

I'm sorry about the coat, I didn't tell her about the coat, she would just take it and try to fix it up.

Lang stays quiet a bit longer just stareing at the stars. I wonder if, as the Avatar I'll travel to the stars like Johnny does? I bet that would be a neat trip

Lang lays on his back just stareing into space. he soon starts to fall asleep on the rooftop.
